Burdick Legacy 1914 | PART 3
Tumblr media
Bridgette enjoyed having another baby in the house now that Lola was starting to get older. She secretly wished that things would always be like this, but with her son and husband safe back home. She tried to distract herself through painting and playing with the farm animals. But working on the farm made her think of Rudy, Lola’s singing made her think of how badly he wanted to be a musician. She loved living on the farm and raising a family with him and wouldn’t have it any other way. Everyone kept claiming the war would end soon. She couldn’t wait.
Unfortunately Rudy would never make it home.

Burdick Legacy 1914 | PART 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 1914 the war broke out and Frederick was frustrated that he had to leave school after nearly completing his degree. He was scared to leave his family, but glad that they were still pretty financially stable. He, Charles, Rudy, Thomas, Dimitri, and Christian were all drafted into the war.
Tumblr media
He found it extraordinarily difficult to say goodbye to Juliette.

Burdick Legacy 1914 | PART 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vera's inquisitive nature didn't go away with age. In fact, it intensified. Every time someone saw her playing she was always snooping around the house with a magnifying glass. She loved reading Sherlock Holmes and writing about "clues" she found in her journals.

Burdick Legacy 1913 | PART 1
Tumblr media
In the Watson household, Celeste was also noticing people looking at her strangely. She asked Christian if he noticed, but he said that he didn’t really care about what other people thought. At a party she overheard people talking about her, claiming that they heard Edna wasn’t actually her father’s child. She tried to shake it, but she couldn’t help thinking about how little Edna looked like her father… and how little she and Christian looked like him.
Tumblr media
She ended up getting very drunk and making a fool of herself, then locked herself in her bedroom for the next couple days. She wished she had someone she could talk to, but she didn’t want to make Christian worry and she wasn’t ready to talk to her parents.
Tumblr media
In the Dowell household Gretchen was very concerned with her parents growing older and her daughters not seeming to have found husbands. Annabelle seemed ambivalent to the idea of rushing into marriage, still enjoying watching the drama of her household unfold. Lenore, on the other hand, just couldn’t seem to get anything right. No one seemed to give her any attention.
Tumblr media
What Gretchen didn't tell anyone was that she'd overheard rumors circulating about Dimitri having bastard children. What she didn't know was that when Lenore had confronted Annabelle, Annabelle promised she hadn't told a soul.
Tumblr media
Except maybe a friend or two.

Burdick Legacy 1912 | PART 1
Tumblr media
Arabella and Charles were married later that year. Charles moved to the farm (and made sure to constantly make clear he didn't want to be there). Very soon after they started their married life Arabella discovered she was pregnant.

Burdick Legacy 1911 | PART 3
Tumblr media
Charles was becoming impatient with Arabella. It frustrated her that he was more concerned with the marriage than the fact that her older sister was missing and maybe dead, but... he was using his money to hire investigators and had given Frederick something she would hate to be responsible for taking away.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This felt so strange. She still hardly knew what she wanted and was already getting a proposal! It felt so sudden even though Charles had been speaking about it from the moment they met.
Tumblr media
She agreed to the marriage, but made him promise that they could stay at her home until they were sure about where Henrietta was.

Burdick Legacy 1911 | PART 2
Tumblr media
Frederick struggled balancing school, his part time job, grieving the loss of another one of his sisters, and helping Juliette with Vera.
Tumblr media
Margaret Darby was happy to help out and loved spending time with Vera which was a huge relief to Juliette. Especially when she discovered that she was pregnant again.
Tumblr media
Juliette adored living in the city, but felt like she never had time to explore it. Or maybe it was all too overwhelming and new. Frederick would be in school for the next four years and an even more extravagant lifestyle was far out of reach. She was grateful to the Darby’s for their financial support, but refused to ask for more. She wanted to make it happen. She wanted things to do, places to go, people to spend time with, but she didn’t know anyone here and didn’t know her way around. Juliette wouldn’t admit it to herself or Frederick, but the city scared her. Staying inside all the time scared her more.

Burdick Legacy 1911 | PART 1
Tumblr media
It had been nearly a year since Arthur and Henrietta ran away from home and things weren't shaping out like they'd expected. Neither of them had done the cooking back at home and the stove wasn't in great condition to begin with.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The work was hard and the hours were long. They spent most of their time either in silence or arguing. Somehow going home, where they'd be pitied for running and resented for stealing, still seemed worse.
