merlin au

merlins magic is obvious to the general public but they cant tell if arthur is acting oblivious to it bc hes in love with merlin, or if he is genuinely oblivious to it (because hes in love with merlin).

like, im talking multiple people have straight up asked/told arthur abt merlins magic and hes in tears laughing every time because theres no way its true. he finds it so ridiculous that he never even bothers to tell merlin abt the situation.

like, merlin fully does not know how common knowledge his magic is to camelots citizens. the people of camelot cant decide whether to be mad at the favoritism or thankful for the obliviousness and generally try not to talk abt merlins occasional and (as far as theyre concerned not at all powerful) mild magic use.

scream x scooby doo

had an idea abt a scream/scooby doo crossover where stu (somehow. miraculously.) survives and (i imagine maybe billy had a back up plan hidden somewhere in case things went sideways that stu knew abt bc billy is the plans guy, not stu) carves out a new identity as shaggy.

shaggy, who is a couple years younger than stu and a couple grades below, where he gets scooby and meets the mystery gang and graduates and becomes the one thing nobody couldve imagined stu could be- a total coward who both runs from danger and is actively apart of a group of world renowned mystery solvers who help people and specialize in uncovering criminals in masks.

world renowned being important, because theyve eventually gotta at least be drawn to or invited to help with the latest case of ghostface murders (whatever movie depending on what peaks the fancy and how old/experienced the mystery gang should be), and would have to run into at least one or two faces that stu would know but shaggy absolutely would not.

cue shenanigans where shaggy has to be as loveable cowardly goofball with a talking dog and a blackhole stomach for food as possible so nobody involved with the whole ghostface deal thinks he could ever be anything more than a doppelganger of stu, and so the rest of the mystery gang (who literally solve mysteries for a living) dont connect any pieces themselves.

stuff could probably be thrown in abt how stu deals with missing billy, and about how stu copes with his murderous tendencies as shaggy, and whether or not that coping mechanism particularly works when hes actively involved with a ghostface case for the first time in a while.

idk this crossover always intrigues me because it has some good parallels of both being chill guys (who probably both smoke weed) and have both been played by matthew lillard, but one solves masked mysteries and the other is the cause of them. like, shaggy is close enough to stu where its not the most challenging difference, but shaggy is still a very obvious difference that people wouldnt think stu capable of. shaggy is super kind and compassionate, best friends with a dog, and loves to eat, but is also a very afraid man who still helps people despite his fears. i just love the idea of shaggy just being there acting completely normal and the ghostface victims who knew stu being completely freaked out abt it.

spideypool aus are so hard to do and are often weirdly cast.

sometimes i come across a spideypool au where its your fav ship as spider-man and deadpool and i always have two many thoughts about it. its just always so hard to do correctly while making it seem in character for all characters involved, and it makes me a bit frustrated.

im aware its probably a stupid thing to be frustrated by, and that aus are aus and fics are fics and nothing has to be true to character or whatever, but ive just never thought it made sense and this is just a rant for fun anyways.

examples:

steve harrington/eddie munson (steddie obvs). people make them into this au and always make steve spider-man and eddie deadpool, and i think it makes sense reputation wise, but i dont think it makes sense morally.

eddies whole plot point felt like it was kinda abt how how people perceive him as a freak and hunt him down for a murder he didnt commit, and he kinda freaks out abt even the idea of him actually murdering someone- like, it feels like he literally would never, but thats deadpools whole thing. deadpool never really has moral dilemmas abt killing someone in that type of capacity.

meanwhile, while steve has only ever had a hand in killing literal monsters and losing fights with actual humans, i feel like he would have less of a problem than eddie with the concept of murdering someone.

bakugo katsuki/izuku midoriya (bkdk). obviously, same schtick of the one with the worst reputation (bakugo) being deadpool, and the one with the better/shakier reputation (midoriya) being spider-man, with both not really making sense morally. (shakier ofc meaning that within their peers they were viewed as one type of way at the beginning of the show and then viewed a different way gradually over the course of the show.)

bkg talks a big talk abt threatening to kill people and wishing death upon midoriya, but when hes kidnapped by the villains because of his violent quirk/attitude, its pretty obviously figured out that he could never kill like they do because his ultimate dream is to become the number one hero and killing instead of detaining is obviously not the way to do that.

midoriya, obviously, had his whole vigilante arc, and while i dont think hed point blank kill someone, i think he got a lot closer to actually doing it than bakugo did.

obviously i could sit here deliberating which one out of both examples has more of a dark/crude humor (dp) or more of a punny humor (sm), or which one is probably not worrying abt money (dp) and which one definitely is (sm), but my general conclusion is that deadpool and spider-man feel too nuanced to make into an au, and that neither of either pair fit enough to make it feel in character.

that all being said, this is just a pointless rant that doesnt matter, and this post is for fun just as much as the au itself, the people that write it and draw it and consume it. i just come across the au occasionally enough to have opinions on it that i figured id write them down.

Spell that makes the metaphorical weight on your shoulders real.

The entire kingdom has fallen under this spell, forcing the old to haunch over and some young people finding it very hard to keep moving. Only children (except those in abusive relationships because those tend to be blamed for their punishments and therefore feel responsible either way) seem able to move around freely.

Arthur can barely stand. He can't fight this spell and he can't send anyone else because if he does, that puts more responsibility on their shoulders. So, unable to do anything, Arthur tries to call upon Merlin.

Merlin never arrives.

In fact, it seems that no one can find him and Arthur is half certain the idiot is at the tavern again.

It takes a week for them to find a way around the spell. They have to somehow release every person one by one of their burdens (dunno how the spell works yet, but it's gotta be like that somehow). Once they manage this, Arthur searches for Merlin, to snark at him where the hell his lousy ass had been...

Only to find Merlin in his bed. Or rather the remains of that bed. Merlin lays face down, shallowly breathing, starved and thirsty for over a week under the crushing weight of his destiny.

Another fundraiser I'd like to bring more attention to is that of Munna and her family.

Munna has 3 children, Rima, who is a teenager, Salah, an 11 year old, and Lina, who is only 5 years old. Their family has been forced to evacuate and they've been living in a small tent for the last 9 months of this ongoing genocide. They've faced countless dangers, from the threat of Israeli artillery to the famine and shortage of clean water.

This family is saving up the funds currently to evacuate to Egypt, where they will be safe and the children will be able to continue their education and receive proper nutrition and healthcare.

This fundraiser is extremely low on funds, having not even reached £1000 of their end goal of £30,000. Every donation will go towards helping this family and every share spreads young Lina's message further.
