What a damn place to be– of all the beloved nicknames I’d heard for the current cesspool that used to be the pride and joy of the states, “Hell on Earth” takes the cake for most appealing. At least Hell– well, biblical Hell– had organization. Whatever these remains are, at least on the surface, are nothing but a clusterfuck of old war vets and kids my age looking for something to do in life.

“This ‘city of dreams’ isn’t exactly same as it used to be, ja?” The man beside me took a long drag of his cigarette before stomping it out on the soot-laden asphalt. He had an accent so thick any passerby would’ve assumed he’d never laid a toe outside Berlin. “Back when I met your mutter here, das Empire State Building was standing very tall and proud... The skyline was unmistakable back then.”

“Before they turned it into some government playground?”

“Yes, yes... Those were the days when they had Times Square open to us. That’s where your mutter und I–”

“Shared your first kiss, you tell this story every single time we’re in the city. New Year’s of ‘32, how could I forget?”

“Very good memory, Maxwell. You better hope it stays that way.” The man sighs, looking up at the blinding lights down the subway tunnel. “You should get going. Wouldn’t want to be last on train, ja? Not when you are headed for big ranks.”

Based heavily on Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Pacific Rim, Red Hot Mechanical Fever is a project I started a couple years back which I'm finally putting out in public.

I'm hoping to get at least one chapter out per month, starting with the prologue, and I'll be updating important character sheets as the story progresses.

SHIPPING: There WILL be canon ships, but honestly, I don't care what you ship, even if it deviates from the canon. So long as it's not problematic (i.e. noncon, incest, p3do, etc.), ship what you want to, I don't care (⁠人⁠ ⁠•͈⁠ᴗ⁠•͈⁠)
