Ev, also @regular_gnome on twitter asks might take a moment due to uni, but they’re there. Sometimes they stay longer when I want to give a longer answer, but I’m time-limited

What does an "average" gnome look like? The garden variety for those found in houses but what of the woods?
Tumblr media
A few researchers were sent to investigate and their findings are, quite surprising. Teams set out to locate and document the nests and colonies of diffrent types of gnomes, aiming to better understand how infestations happen, to study their origins and social behaviors
This research is challanging undertaking, as gnomes are a polyphyletic group, coming from different origins and having diffrent needs. Because of this, attempts to define an "average" gnome are often inaccurate, the traits and behaviors differ too widely to be generalized while the populations shift in numbers
Earlier classifications focused primarily on the garden gnome variety. But the study revealed this to be an observational bias: garden gnomes are just the most visible. They spend more time near human dwellings, so their frequent sightings led to the assumption that they make up the majority of the gnome population. In truth, the presence of garden gnomes outside often indicates a much larger population of house gnomes inside
One research team, tasked with studying the ratio of indoor to outdoor gnome populations, recently entered a house that was hosting over seven hundred garden gnomes. We have yet to hear back from them. It's been months. We’ve found are their boots outside the house and an empty can of corn
They should come back

The cover art (whatever it's called) for your comic is so good btw! I also just realized the baby titan is named Mayor because.... King, that's great, I'm just kinda stupid-
Tumblr media
Thank you! It’s alright:P
“Mayor” is more of a nickname. His real name is Teres Major, but he insists on being called “Mayor”, aaaand yup, bit of a reference to the mighty King of Demons:p Being bossy and somewhat commanding is just part of who he is. It ties into how Titan dynamics work, especially as they grow up. Because of the demands that come with growing to that size, developing that kind of assertiveness becomes a survival strategy
Annd considering how fragile baby Titans are compared to their adult forms, I think both King and Mayor’s insistence on being seen as the most powerful and important as small kids came from a similar place. Something that would help that kind of creature to get what they need when everything out there can get them and the parent is few magnitudes bigger
One of the rumors Bill mentioned when Luz first learned about Titans was that even the children act like little monarchs. I think that idea probably came from clashes about this, the way Titans understand and interact with each other is very different from how witches do. And when you add in the fact that Titans have upper hand when it comes to power, I think its how that was be interpreted as imperiousness
And for the less in worldbuilding answer -

Hello! Hi, so there's something that has been bugging me for a while now... But do the Archivists also collect micro organisms? Both single and multi-cellular? Or do they only collect organisms as small as bugs(as ive seen in your garden comic), thank you for your time *slides buttered corn on a plate for the gnomes*
Tumblr media
They even take in prions, and those barely count as 'life forms'
I’d say half of the archive would consist of microorganisms. They work by establishing systems, and a large part of a functional ecosystem relies on microorganisms
Simpler life forms also make adaptation easier, they are fine when basic needs are met, which are relatively simple, right substrate, right conditions. Over time, they can evolve into something more complex adn better suited to the environment. If they introduced a creature adapted to a different environment, it might struggle to establish itself if too many things needed to be adapted to

I's SOOOOO happy you tried wine cake :D Alsooo Hi I got locked outta my email and for some reason it was harder to log into my tumblr than my paypal
Tumblr media
I am super behind on asks but yeah!
I think the difference is mainly in proportions, since it seems we used the same ingredients? Mine was definitely more bread-like - I believe I used this recipe, though I had to swap a few things because I ran out of flour and oil mid process. Yours sounds a little closer to a pudding? Still, it was good! Looking up the recipes, most of them seem to lean toward the pudding approach, so I’m going to try that next time
And yeah, logging out is a struggle. When my phone died, it only took about two minutes to set up the bank app again, but Tumblr refused to log in for days, but glad you managed to revive it

Have the Archivist ever,, tried to study the circumstances around how a Collector forms or are they uninterested in there own nature? (Do Collectors form at random, did the "birthrate" change after the extinction event, can a Collector be purposefully spawned,, can they only appear around others of their kind or could the fabric just pop up in the middle of space?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They do know the circumstances of their own creation, on most part. Collectors come into existence when the magic released by a kilonova gains consciousness
Magic is unstable without something to contain it and give it directions. When a larger amount of pure magic is left unused for too long, it forms a kind of awareness to stabilise. This is how Starchildren come into being. A kilonova just produces the amount of magic that forms a collector
Starchildren form from different-sized "pockets" of magic. The smaller the pockets create smaller starchildren that tend to gravitate to other energy and stimuli, be around life, around noise. These little ones tend to stick together in groups and don’t really understand much. The bigger pockets of magic create larger, offften more solitary starchildren with a deeper awareness. They even hold bits of memory from before they became what they are.
Since magic works like energy it has always existed in some form, it was once part of a single, massive "pocket"- an entity called Everything. This being held all the energy there was. But it wanted more than stillness. It wanted things to exist.. So it exploded. In a way, it died, but because energy can’t be created or destroyed, it changed forms, scattered. But when enough magic gathers in one place, a piece of Everything echos
The archivists are somewhere in between. They’re closer to the smaller starchildren in nature, but they’ve got enough awareness to feel a pull, to keep things in motion, to help life continue. They don’t know why they feel this way. It’s just a quiet drive, probably the closest thing to instinct they have
The whole process is generally random, but it’s not hard to spot when it might happen, like when neutron stars are heading toward collision. The starchildren don’t try to force it. They work on a timescale where rushing makes no sense. Adding kinetic energy could throw off the outcome. So they wait. And in the face of infinity, what’s an eon?

While looking for a file, I found an old comic. I wasn’t initially going to post it, since their relationship becomes much more antagonistic after the Collector grows up and really returns to the Archive, that's just one of more down moments
But still, it exists

More other old sketches I found but never posted, there were a few that weren’t as bad as I thought they were back then. Even found some from when I was figuring out hair without mask and face markings for the comic when Way was young
