Warning: This exhaustive list will hold your hand and treat you as someone who remembers next to nothing about the game. There is a focus on explaining writing decisions of events / character actions / story beats and worldbuilding.

The silo-building materials are based on the listed resource requirements in-game. However, I kept the build time vague because I assume two days of completion is pushing it for one person to do alone.

The Mountain Road family heads to the Stardrop Saloon every Friday as part of their “family night,” referencing the part of Robin, Demetrius, and Sebastian’s schedule where they can be found at the Saloon during that day all year. Maru on the other hand is never actually seen in the Saloon, at most hanging out with Penny (who has an aversion to alcohol) on the bench outside, but I needed to characterize the family a certain way, and thus.

Robin mentions Maru liking the cauliflowers Reza once brought based on her canon giftable Likes.

Demetrius’ mushroom cave project with Reza is referencing one of the two options available in-game to customize the small cave found in the farm.

Reza is tasked with taking care of the Community Center by submitting bundles as per the game, where the Community Center and consequently the “Rat Problem” quest is unlocked from Spring 5th onwards. All sequences involving the Junimos and Rasmodius are based on related cutscenes and quests.

While opening the door to the Community Center, Reza mutters, “In the name of Yoba,” referencing the Arabic phrase, “Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem.” I’m very loosely basing the faith in Yoba off some customs of the Abrahamic religions I’m familiar with, while still trying to maintain that earthly primordial feel / aesthetic the game already sets up. I myself was raised in an interfaith Muslim-Balinese Hindu household (though my actual alignment might get me in trouble lol (for legal reasons this is a joke and I didn’t mean anything blasphemous)), and would often hear the use of “Bismillah” from Muslim family members whenever they are about to do something that requires strength, patience, or courage.

Haley forgetting Reza’s name is based on one of her regular Winter dialogue, then Two-Hearts and Four-Hearts Events — instances where she doesn’t recall the farmer’s name very well.

Alex talking about the beach and wishing there were more girls in town are taken from one of his regular Spring dialogue.

Lewis saying that Reza can expect to receive something from “the Fund” is a reference to a type of repeatable mail in the game sent by Lewis that includes 500G of money from the Stardew Valley Agricultural Fund.

The Stardew Valley Tribune doing a story on Reza’s farm is based on the in-game event / mail achieved after earning 27,000G. 

Alex’s dismissive “What, you wanna talk to me? I’m busy,” is taken from one of his regular Spring dialogue. 

Alex not remembering Reza’s name and trying to guess it is based on one of his regular Fall dialogues where he tries guessing the farmer’s name with other names that start with the same letter. 

Alex deciding against asking Reza to play catch is referencing a question he’d ask the player on a Wednesday. I think it’s asked in Spring, but I might be wrong. Alex’s excuse saying he was too sore to play is also based on his answer dialogue for when the player agrees to play. 

As per the game, Alex visits Haley every Wednesday afternoon if the player has less than 6 hearts with both of them. 

Reza’s mother and sister called him excitedly about the Tribune article in similar fashion to the mail the farmer receives from their mother / father after earning 32,000G. 

The attendance of everybody else at the Saloon is based on the Saloon attendees in the game during Friday nights, with the exception of Maru, as stated earlier. 

Clint keeping his attention on Emily references his canon feelings for her, as portrayed in his odd-year Flower Dance dialogue, odd-year Festival of Ice dialogue, “Clint’s Attempt” quest, and his Three-Hearts and Six-Hearts Events.

Once again, Reza’s branch of faith in Yoba traditionally prohibiting the consumption of alcohol is roughly based on the Islamic law on the matter. In my experience, I do know a number of Muslims who drink it themselves, including my own mother who does socially. I don’t mean to encourage devouts to do it, I’m just portraying things that do happen in real life. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ At the end of the day, humanity will always have free will. 

Reza points out that Leah wears plaid despite my drawings of her depicting otherwise as it is one of the headcanons I have on her style, I just get lazy over drawing non-default / non-canon outfits. My illustrations aren’t meant to be more accurate than the text. 

Alex’s pants compliment and bikini question towards Leah references one of his regular Summer dialogue reserved for female players. I think it makes sense for Leah to be the one experiencing it in the narrative seeing as just like the player character, she once held the role of a newcomer, and could be subject to Alex’s attempts at starting conversations.

Alex can be found at Dusty’s dog pen that evening, referencing his afternoon schedule for most of the year.

Please Help Hala Daoud get to Egypt for treatment of her debilitating illness (MS)

Hala was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2021. Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease that targets the central nervous system, and if left to progress can be permanently disabling. There is no cure, but there is treatment that can mitigate the damage it does to the central nervous system. Hala needs this treatment, so she can avoid becoming permanently disabled by the disease, but after the collapse of their healthcare system it is not available in Gaza anymore. The medication is also extremely expensive, $12,000 for just one dose that lasts only 6 months, and she must now pay this all on her own. Please help her get to Egypt to purchase this medication!

Only €1,523 has been raised of €17,000, she has not had any new donations in 21 hours!

What is Ghazal’s fault for not living

her childhood safely? How long will our children suffer???? ❤️‍🩹💔😭Ghazal was one year and four months old before the war, and now she is two years and three months old. Ghazal did not live through any stage of her childhood. She did not hear the bombing, the sounds of missiles, and saw the destruction and blood. How long, O world??? 💔❤️‍🩹💔 Ghazal now suffers from speech impairment because of the fear she experienced that affected her speech. She needs intensive treatment in order for her to speak.

Ghazal now lives in a torn tent, burning from extreme heat and cold at night, and I fear that winter will come upon us while we are in this torn tent. There is nothing. We have clothes for the winter because we left our house and did not take anything.

Everything in the house was destroyed.

I wish to return to Gaza to smell the dirt and dust of Gaza 😭😭🇵🇸 I do not know the meaning of sleep.

I am afraid that a snake or rodents will come upon them and they will get hurt.

I cry all night 😭💔 over what happened to us all. This torment, and no one moves or stays still.

Rather, the world is silent over all these massacres, destruction, and humiliation that we live through for food, water, shelter, and clean clothes. I hope every day that this dark nightmare to which we are exposed will end❤️‍🩹💔🇵🇸

Warning: This exhaustive list will hold your hand and treat you as someone who remembers next to nothing about the game. There is a focus on explaining writing decisions of events / character actions / story beats and worldbuilding.

Pre-chapter prologue and Robin-Lewis meeting sequence are based on the game’s opening cutscene.

The name Billy Goat Farm is meant to reference the fairy tale, Three Billy Goats Gruff. The choice in name is meant to highlight how narratively the farm has been passed down between male relatives, as the tale features familial male goats.

Jodi, Harvey, Abigail, Pierre and Haley introduction sequences and conversations are specifically based on their in-game First Meeting dialogues.

Reza writes himself a reminder to buy a bigger bag in reference to the bag / inventory slot upgrade in the game. 

Grandpa is said to have used a traditional stone stove in his lifetime based on the fact that the pre-upgraded cottage in the game has no kitchen. Reza would have to make a Campfire, by which what I really meant is the Cookout Kit. Both are craftable items. 

Jodi is drawn to be wearing a wedding ring on her hand even though the local marriage custom where they currently are involves the Mermaid’s Pendant. This is because some of Sam’s dialogue references how his family used to live in Zuzu City, which means it is a possible location for where Jodi and Kent tied the knot, and there, a wedding ring appears to be the tradition instead. 

Harvey mentions that he was about to head out when Reza and Alex visited the clinic based on his Regular Schedule in Spring where he walks around the park west of the town square by noon. 

Abigail works at Pierre’s store in the fic as an interpretation of her often being found there in-game. If I remember correctly, there is no definitive dialogue stating that she is canonically an employee. 

Fern Islands is the existing archipelago within the settings of the game as part of Ferngill Republic’s territories. In the fic, the archipelago is based on maritime Southeast Asian and Oceanian countries, with different islands corresponding to different real-life regions, all lumped together by Ferngill under “Fern Islands.” For the sake of the fic’s worldbuilding, Ginger Island is also definitely not the biggest island. As mentioned, Reza’s ancestry traces back to somewhere in southeast Fern Islands. He’s specifically meant to be coded as Indonesian (“Reza” is a common name around here), as that is where I’m from and thus feel most comfortable writing about. 

Haley’s photo spot references the part of Haley’s schedule every Monday of Spring and Fall where she goes to the river south of Marnie’s Ranch to take pictures. 

Willy is away on a fishing trip on the farmer’s first day just like in the game, leading to Reza making that makeshift semi-functional rod with Haley’s hair clip. By the way, it’s meant to be this kind specifically:

Leah offering to take any driftwood, and showing Reza how to make a salad from foragables are based on her canon giftable Likes. This makes her one of the easier townies to befriend as the farmer. 

Leah comes from Zuzu City, just like Reza, referencing her in-game lore mentioned during her Four-Hearts Event where she moved out of the city to be an artist. Leah’s ex, Kel, also has the option in her Ten-Hearts Event to say that they came all the way from Zuzu City to see her art show.

Reza fulfills bulletin board requests as is doable to do in-game to earn currency rewards and raise friendship points, which is what eventually leads to Reza receiving the occasional letter, recipe, and gifts in the mail. 

Willy comes from Fern Islands as per an in-game dialogue of his earned at 6+ Hearts where he mentions growing up sailing between the islands. 

Alex’s reaction to Reza looking through his trash is based on the villagers’ in-game dialogue that occurs whenever the player is caught interacting with the trashcans within proximity. 

The cookies found in the Mullners’ trashcan references one of the possible items to pop out of the 1 River Road house’s trash in-game.

Alex pointing out the star on his jacket is based on one of his regular Spring in-game dialogue. Please ignore the way I consistently forget to actually draw the star, and now probably never will.

Alex’s old highschool, Grample High, would be found in Grampleton, a town in the game’s setting indicated to be within or just close to the Stardew Valley region (according to one of the dialogue options in Penny’s Eight-Hearts Event). In the fic, Pelican Town is one of the small farming communities located in southern Stardew; none of which have a formal secondary school, and thus why Stardew kids like Alex attended school in Grampleton. 

Alex’s “training” — or as Reza puts it, “tossing a ball in the air to yourself everyday” — references Alex’s idle animation while standing outside his house beneath a nearby tree most days.

The game has no explicit mention that the Mullners and the farmer’s family knew each other, however, I’ve decided to establish that for the fic because it just seems logical to me that Reza’s grandfather and George & Evelyn must have lived in Pelican Town within the same time period before the former’s passing.

Reza walking in on Harvey and George’s check-up sequence is based on Harvey’s Two-Hearts Event.
