Spectres of Death
Fandom: Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Characters: Sylvain Jose Gautier, Byleth Eisner
Relationship(s): Sylvain & Byleth
Other Tags: Character Study, Verdant Wind | Golden Deer Route (Spoilers), Divine Pulse
Warning(s): Character Deaths Mentioned
Rating: Teen and Up Audiences
Status: Complete (2 Parts)
Summary:
Sylvain half expects his death in this war, Byleth would rather not see that happen.
Notes:
I started this like five years ago, and finally figured out how to finish it. Expect character deaths canon to Verdant Wind and the mentions of deaths that were undone with Divine Pulse.
***
Death is looming over Sylvain's head. Maybe it has always been there — like a curse he can sense in the back of his mind, reaching for him but never engulfing him. Maybe the fact it's claiming others before him is part of the deal. He was never sure whether he's super paranoid or incredibly lucky.
Sylvain dreams of dying sometimes, the images of the battlefield and the fatality of war seared into his mind. It's better than the nightmares in which he clings to the lifeless body of a friend. Those have him wake with a start, breath sped up with the rhythm of his racing heart. The visions haunt him till the break of dawn chases them back into the dark corners of his mind.
If Sylvain got any say in it, he'd die before his comrades. He's not trying to get himself killed — that much was as true when he told it to Felix as it is now — but if it came down to his life or that of a friend, he would rather be the one to take the fatal blow. His companions are precious to him. It's bad enough that he was separated from some of his childhood friends and former classmates in the course of this war. He wants to keep the comrades save that remain by his side. What is his miserable existence in comparison?

Little writing exercise featuring Wolfwood from Trigun. I was thinking of Trimax Wolfwood while writing it, but it probably also fits Tristamp or '98 anime Wolfwood.
Life has never been easy. In his few years on this dry planet, Nick learnt that this is just the way of things. But there was a time when he carried less of a burden — when he knew less, when he worried about less. Sometimes he thinks back to those days. When the blood he spills is dripping upon an uncaring ground and it leaves him cold, his mind can wander to the child he used to be. It’s an existence so far removed from who he has become — a boy who still cried when he scraped his knees; before he got used to the pain, before he learnt that there are things far worse than a little broken skin.

A Petal Too Much
Fandom: Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Characters: Felix Hugo Fraldarius, Sylvain Jose Gautier
Relationships: Felix & Sylvain
Other Tags: Pranks and Practical Jokes, Not Actually Unrequited Love
Rating: General Audiences
Status: Complete
Summary:
Sylvain makes a joke about having unrequited feelings for Felix and Felix doesn't like it. Flowers are involved.
Notes:
Just poking fun at the Hanahaki Disease trope, no romo.
***
Sylvain stuffs non-poisonous flowers into his mouth and walks up to Felix. Gripping his throat for dramatic effect, he coughs and starts spitting out petals.
"Felix help!" he wheezes once he's able to speak. "Why won't you love me back? Can't you see it's killing me?"

The Lipstick Incident
Fandom: Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Characters: Claude von Riegan, Sylvain Jose Gautier
Relationship: Claudevain | Claude x Sylvain
Other Tags: Pre-Relationship, Banter, Flirting
Rating: General Audiences
Status: Complete
Summary:
Claude learns about Sylvain's habit of keeping an unused lipstick at hand in a rather unusual fashion.
Notes:
I cannot get over the fact that Sylvain carries around an unused lipstick, so I had to do something with it. One day I'll post something that does Claudevain more justice...
* * *
Claude would like to know in excruciating detail what goes on in the head of Sylvain Jose Gautier. He isn't too shy to ask — interrogating people with as much subtlety or bluntness as is required is a hobby of his — yet he doesn't think that any amount of prying could reveal the thought process behind an action. And he would desperately like to know what exact line of thinking lead to Sylvain offering him a lipstick.

Kainé and Nier being cute
Thank you for the coffee, @rain-system! <3 This is about as cute as I could imagine them being atm.
[Support me on ko-fi.com and receive a short fic]
Another poor slob who needs an errand run. Kainé scoffs as Nier reads off the list of boring items he promised to buy at Seafront.
"Can't people do their own damn grocery shopping?"
Nier gives a half-laugh. "You know the roads aren't safe these days."
Yeah, of course, the damn shades. Kainé rolls her eyes but doesn't respond.
"You can sit this one out, if you want," Nier offers.
"And who's going to keep the shades off your ass?" A pretense. She'd have nothing to do otherwise, bored and alone.
Nier doesn't catch on, just laughs. "Of course."
Then. "Shall we go?"

Request: Heat/Serph; comradery
The other request for @juntorii. It's canon compliant but could also work as part of a canon divergent plot, make of it what you will.
It has been the two of them for almost as long as Serph remembers. Heat always had their back, supported them, driven them on — Serph wouldn't be where they are today if not for him. He is a constant in a world that remained stable only in the rules it upholds while the number of its inhabitants and borders of its territories keeps changing in a matter of hours.
Even now as the set order is starting to crumble and their eyes look upon the Junkyard in a new light — new sensations spreading in their bodies — Serph relies on Heat. They're comrades, two forces multiplying and resisting the ongoing storm which comes down on the outmatched and outwitted without mercy. They fight side by side, survive together; no mysterious girl, no hunger for another's flesh can change that.

Request: Gale/Serph; emotional dissonance
One of two requests for @juntorii. I hope you enjoy.
There are little things that Gale cannot make sense of anymore, small shifts away from logic leaving him unsure of how to respond: Serph's dedication to preserving life becoming more apparent by the day, Gale's own desire to keeping Serph alive growing beyond the loyalty a tribe leader demands. It defies reason, so he fights it — those little twists and tugs in his gut — but they leave him out of his depth, more and more so with each passing day.
Serph is becoming an enigma and a magnet, puzzling him and drawing him in all the same. Gale hates it, hates how his mind has started to succumb to small irregularities like the ones he finds so disconcerting in his comrades.
And yet there is a part of him, a beast awoken that hungers for more than just flesh and blood; the demon inside him longs to feel, to find something in Serph that has nothing to do with them being the leader of his tribe. It challenges him to a fight and he can no longer determine the outcome.

shulk and alvis; admiration
I lost count of how many times I started from scratch, because I kept missing the mark. Thank you for the prompt and for waiting so patiently @zanthe.
Warning: Endgame spoilers for Xenoblade Chronicles follow.
Alvis doesn’t have the words for it — or rather, he doesn’t think to connect the word to this sensation. All he knows is that after everything Shulk has done he regards the young homs higher than the rest.
It’s not because Shulk stepped up to do what Alvis needed him to do; it’s not because Shulk ascended to godhood and got to decide the fate of the world — those were things Alvis had calculated before he reached out to Shulk for the first time. But the details Alvis could not have predicted: how Shulk held out a hand in friendship to Egil instead of seeking revenge; how Shulk gave up being above everyone else to live alongside his friends.
Predicting the future was never a matter of complete accuracy, but it has always been something Alvis could do and he would have continued to share it with Shulk beyond the dawn of this new world. That Shulk preferred to go back to a state of not knowing fills Alvis with something he struggles to describe — astonishment paired with appreciation just doesn’t quite cut it.

brother nier/kainé - comfort
What a good request. What a shame it took me 3 months to figure it out. Thank you for your patience and I hope you enjoy. <3
There's no guarantee for what their future will hold, but Kainé didn't ask for that. She never asked for anything — no damn help, certainly no fucking friendship — but Nier gave it to her anyway.
There was no denying his offer because he doesn't seem to know a reason to turn away from people; he helps in any way he can like the damn fool he is.  And still, deep down — tucked away inside her heart with all the other things she would never admit — Kainé likes to think that what Nier did for her is more personal, because he declared them friends demanded for her to keep on living.
At night Kainé watches the stars alone, away from an empty home she doesn't want to stay in, and she feels like she belongs somewhere — that feeling her grandma offered her before it all went up in flames and agony. It kept her going then like it drives her now: the comfort of knowing there's just one person in this rotten world who for some damn reason cares about her.

Request: Alvis questions the value of friendship.
@zanthe proposed this way back in February when I was doing 6 sentence fic prompts for the first time. I wanted to brush up on my knowledge of Xenoblade Chronicles first and then didn't fill the prompt for months. I'm sorry to keep you waiting for so long.
There are more prompts in my inbox which are next on my list.
Warning: Vague XBC1 spoilers in the paragraphs below.
For a long number of years Alvis has watched and wondered why the people of the Bionis and the Mechonis alike bother to care for each other. He considered that it's a necessity for the weak who cannot survive without working together — unlike Zanza who is powerful beyond their imagination and doesn't have to have any compassion for whom he steps on to continue his existence.
Alvis, too, is above all that: the community, the mutual support — he lives among the High Enthia and they depend on him for his visions while he is aware of their ultimate fate and there's no point in bemoaning it. So what then can friendship be aside from people needing each other, whatever is there to gain that he cannot see?
Since keeping a close eye on Shulk and his companions, Alvis has started to wonder about the value friendship holds to these people. Alvis cannot say, but he wants to find out what is about this thing which Shulk has, this thing which Zanza couldn't and wouldn't ever teach him.

It's a metaphor.
Mods: Noctis as Luna | Regis as Ardyn
Considering how we see no real protest from Regis about Noctis's fate and he dies without preparing Noctis for it in the slightest, he may as well have stabbed Noctis himself. Oh wait, that did happen. I forgot.
I'm exaggerating. But seriously, I don't think canon handled their relationship very well, so this is me venting about it.

I wanted to fill one of the 6 sentence prompts in my inbox, but I feel like I missed the mark a bit. I like this too much to rewrite or scrap it though, so I'm sharing it before I start writing the prompt from scratch. I'm taking a real liking to writing Kainé/Brother Nier, thanks for inspiring me @snepiscool07 ❤️
Kainé used to think that everything was taken from her, that after she completed her revenge there would be nothing left. Yet as she was willing to sink into the darkness his voice persisted, called her back from the brink, and encouraged her to keep on living.
After years of being hated and shunned there was a boy so naïve who looked at her like she was worth regarding, who fought beside her like she was worth supporting, who called out to her like she was worth saving. That boy has grown into a man; Kainé can see how life hardened him in the way he wields his weapon — and yet the softness prevails in his eyes.
It gives her hope that this world isn't just full of shit and that even for a misfit like her there's a place in it. She should tell him — like he called her his friend, unafraid — but she doesn't have the guts to put into words just what exactly he makes her feel.
