Alright. I'm going to be brutally honest about the AI video here. Ideologically, I can't support the creation of this video because while it DOES highlight the flaws in AI, it's ultimately a comedy video, and it also involves using the AI. Ideally, addressing the problems with AI would be done using the preexisting evidence and footage and knowledge we all already have that has been on the internet this whole time- we don't need to use AI again to know how dumb it is.

I recognize that my source isn't trying to be a video essay YouTuber, though, so this approach makes SENSE. If he wants to make a video about AI being silly and dumb, this is how to do it in a lighthearted way- not sitting down and going over data points and research studies and evidence from other people in a serious context. But I would have at least liked a genuine disclaimer after the sarcastic one, for the Americans and autistic people in the audience who can't pick up on dry British sarcasm, and/or (preferably and) a serious message at the end before he ended the video.

Even then, though, WITH a more serious disclaimer, I just...I don't think making a video using AI is helpful even if you're trying to take it down. It's like buying a brand new copy of Harry Potter to talk about the transphobia of JK Rowling and issues with the books. Like yeah you're being critical, but you're still supporting her because you bought the fucking book in order to do it. You can make ten five hour long videos about how awful she is but if you obtain your evidence via methods that support her, it's counter productive to the cause of actually taking her down.

Using AI continues it's prevalence in culture, tells the companies behind it that it's still being used and to keep funding it's development, and gives it MORE practice and MORE data. For every YouTuber who makes a video making fun of AI while talking to it, the AI knows more and is more fine-tunned. It is counter productive. Taking that approach is short-sided and not thought through. It's not intentionally malicious, but it's ultimately still DAMAGING.

I don't feel angry with him- I don't think he was trying to encourage AI use or help them. But I think, similar to his "something that is wrong is wrong because people say it's wrong" logical fallacy in the shut up I'm talking podcast where he just, was unable to come up with any reason WHY something was wrong other than "it just is", he just really didn't think about this. He thought, "AI is dumb and stupid and bad. I will make a video about this" and didn't really consider the ramifications.

I'll be reblogging this with more of my personal feelings on it but this is the big part that I feel like other people are actually going to like. Care about or want to reblog if they feel the same way, because part 2 is going to be more niche and me- specific.
