Aino redesign (finalized) + some explanations‼️
[Link to my first redesign post]
[Link to my Ineffa and Jahoda redesigns]
I added the Musecatcher thing and made it resemble fish spines, and also added scale patterns to her dress to fit into her mythological namesake from the Kalevala.
If Flins and Lauma can have mythical elements in their design, why can't Aino?
Another thing I changed in this redesign is that this Aino is less of a "quirky, cute inventor kid" and more of "orphaned genius surviving in a lawless land", and willing to use her brains and perceived cuteness to her advantage against her enemies.
Though less trusting and playful than the canon, she's still deep down a good person and driven by curiosity.
"But Rizzonen, Genshin is fantasy! Not everything has to be gritty and realistic!"
Well, allow me to explain that I am a design student, and character design is part of my studies.
Aino's canon/official design solves a marketing problem because she is intentionally created with mass appeal in mind, which made sense as HoYoverse is a corporation that sells characters as products.
However, it was a trade-off that caused creative problems, including incongruence with Nod-Krai/Snezhnaya's worldbuilding. This is what I wanted to solve in my own way, as a creative experiment.
My redesign is merely my personal take on what if Aino is inspired more by her namesake and if she feels like an actual orphaned genius engineer that had to survive on her own.
You are allowed to like or prefer her canon/official design and personality, and you can agree or disagree with redesigns or headcanons. Just be civil about it.
Anyways, here's a pike 🐟

Why does there always have to be romance????
You can have a plot without romance

Aino redesign ‼️
(OG design + references used)

Tbh she's cute as a standalone character but in the terms of cohesion, it neither shows "Finnish" or "Genius engineer kid", so I try to do that while keeping her palette + the overall Genshin look.
One inspiration is Finnish Iron Age clothing, as I missed the old fantasy vibe of the game...
And yes I used Stand Still Stay Silent as additional reference hahahah
Extra doodles, which shows how those strap things are for holding her sleeves
