Errrm where to start.... Well I'm a writer into pretty much anything nerdy, beautiful, and artsy, open to prompts if you want to chuck them at me, also always up for talking or somethin' ^.^ ...The rest, you'll have to find out for yourself.... :} Also if you're looking for any of my writing just search the tag "my prattling" Also I'm slowly putting up stuff on AO3 so be patient.

Whelp, I’m not sure if you’ve read any of these or not but just in case I’m gonna do this anyways.
Murder in the Collective by Barbara Wilson, She’s written more wlw mystery novels after this but I haven’t read any of those. But this is definitely not grim darky dark.
Blood Shot by Sara Paretsky, female detective series with a character with Jewish immigrant ancestry. It’s still within the hardboiled lane of detectives but it’s a good take on it and was a forefront in mainstreaming women as the lead detectives. (I don’t know the reading order cause Blood shot is all I’ve read)
Cotton Comes to Harlem by Chester Himes, two black detectives set in the 1960′s. This is still in the vein of hardboiled, but became one of the major works that set off the upswing of African American cop/detective novels in the following decade.
I’ve run into the same problem you’ve described and found most of these refreshing so, maybe they will be for you too.
In theory, I love the mystery genre. But I can never find mystery books that I actually enjoy - they’re gritty in a dull way, melodramatic, and/or feature unlikable characters. Or they’re Sherlock Holmes fanfiction… but the shitty kind, where they don’t make out OR fight eldritch abominations.

a good way for goyim to help combat antisemitism right now would be to remind those who exclude jewish people from the charlottesville conversation that jewish people are being explicitly targeted – in chants, in statements, in the adoption of nazi ideology.
please reblog if you’re not jewish.

my mom is 61 and her bf is a huge nerd and he’s teaching her to play magic the gathering and he had her watch avatar the last airbender with him and his ringtone is terra’s theme from final fantasy 6 and he paints pictures of sephiroth. my mom’s bf is nerdier than i’ll ever be.
and she does all these pinterest crafts and now she makes little bejeweled vials of healing potions for him and his buddies. my little geek heart can’t handle all this.
edit: just picture a 60-something woman with a VERY thick minnesotan accent saying “mike is having me watch the naruto”
