Alex/Alexa factual history

I recently dipped back into my AM fandom after several years and thought I'd check out the tumblr situation. You know you're wrong about almost everything to do with Alex/Alexa relationship? I thought I'd post and give the actual info. I know this is a lot but it should convince you of the truth. I'm embarrassed by how much I know about this but I followed this closely back in the day.

He dumped her in 2011 (she has made this very clear). Here is a quote of hers from her 2013 speech on heartbreak about returning to New York in 2011.

"There are upsides to despair. You can wear a blanket instead of a coat and your friends won't judge you. You can smoke indoors because nobody will have the heart to tell an inconsolable girl that a smoking ban has been place for eight years. And you find out that people are very nice and they care about you even if the person you care about most doesn't."

She also quotes her mother comforting her in 2011 "I asked my mum about heartbreak and she told me: 'Nobody goes through life without having their heart broken and one day you'll wake up and it will be okay.'"

Here she talks about how 2011/12 was the worst moment in her life:

"The nicest thing I heard during the worst time in my life was this: 'You have to suffer heartbreak so you know what to tell your daughter when she has her heart broken.' I'm Alexa Chung and one day I'm going to have a daughter and I'm going to know what to say to her. I'm going to say: 'Nobody goes through life without having their hear broken and one day you'll wake up and it will be okay.' I cant fucking wait for that day to come."

In her book she says this about heartbreak and 2011 "Boys say they don't mind how you get your hair done. But then they leave you for someone with really great standard girl hair and the next thing you know you're alone with a masculine crop crying into your granola.”

Also in her book (which is bad) she includes an illustration she drew of a boy with the caption "you were meant to be with me but now you're a stranger"

You have said that she ended a four year relationship for her career but that's literally the opposite of what happened. In mid 2011 Alexa was cancelling jobs and withdrawing from commitments to try and convince Alex not to dump her. This is from Grazia on June 13 2011 about 3 weeks before Alex dumped her (early July)

"Miss Chung has hinted that she might take a break from the spotlight - which could mean that this may be one of the last style feasts for us to enjoy. But what do you think? Will you miss this British style queen or is Alexa’s style cred waning?"

Important note is that Grazia is a mag that covers fashion/society that Alexas pr rep Liz Matthews often used to use.

There are a lot more quotes I could include about her heartbreak in 2011/12 where she makes it clear she was dumped and that she is/was despondent.

I"ll just add that it was always kinda known he had dumped her. In her earliest interviews post split before she had yet to really develop a prepared answer to being single and she made it clear she wasn't thrilled about it. In late August 2011 she said "everything I thought I knew about my life is no longer". Not really a quote you give if you are happily single.

Anyhow, those are all facts. I'll tell you about 2014 also if you'd like. 2014 got super messy and considering you say you like Alex's mess I'm surprised you know nothing about it. It's also the reason she hates (or at least hated) him.

I'll try to do this relatively quickly. Alex's behaviour in 2014 is super messy and ends with Alexa hating him.

As everyone knows Alex dumped Arielle in January. He did this for his own (unknown) reasons, nothing to do with Alexa being in LA and trying to convince him (lol). Alexa had been dumped by Alex and had spent much of 2012 openly pining for him. By 2013/14 she had accepted it was over. She arrived in LA in January 2014 with her on/off bf Hutchcraft (she had dumped him in July/August 2013 but presumably got bored/lonely over the holidays in the UK.) Here she is with Hutchcraft in LA in January 2014.

Alex and Alexa hook up in February in NY as everyone knows. Alexa is the one who is obsessed with Alex and excited at the prospect of maybe getting back. She literally posts a photo of herself lying in bed with the ring Alex gave her that she stopped wearing when they split a day after their hook up. After AM's gigs in Feb Alex goes return to England for the Brits and goes on an epic bender with Miles for weeks.

Beginning in April (I think) Alexa begins making tips to LA and the rekindling begins. Everyone knows about the times they spent together in may-july. Alexa is the one who is excited about getting back together, she had been devastated about being dumped in 2011 and had long hoped to get back. Alex consistently chooses to stay in LA when AM aren't touring and "write" with Miles. Some time in late August or early September it appears Alexa discovers (or Alex confesses) that he has been cheating. This is what ends their 2014 relationship and why she hates him.

Somehow you seem unaware of the huge shots Alexa took at Alex in 2015. In 2015 Alexa designed and sold shirts and bags with the phrase "Sacred Monster" which is very obviously aimed at Alex. This quote from Harpers in 2015 explains why she hates Alex and is obviously referencing his treatment of her in 2014.

"Chung doesn't really discuss her relationships (her current one is rumoured to be with the Swedish actor Alex Skarsgard) but she does offer hints as to why she and Turner broke up. During the presentation of her new 'quintessentially English' line of clothes��for AG Jeans to fashion journalists the day before our shoot, she shows a sweatshirt with the words 'Sacred Monster' on it and tells the audience: 'This is from a book I was reading, about lead singers being sacred monsters. They're put on a pedestal because they're so revered for being amazing and they're sacred beings and that attention turns them into monsters. I've given them up now, so it's fine, but I really love that phrase.'"

Alex's shitty treatment of Alexa in 2014 was widely known and caused issues in their friend group with many of Alex's longtime friends from London ghosting him and other mutuals taking shots at him. Here is a photo of Katie Downes using the 'sacred monster' bag in 2015 that she posted and later deleted.

Alex's response to all this is the ultracheese where he acknowledges lost friendships and ends with an emotionally naked confession to Alexa: "I've done some things that I shouldn't have done But I haven't stopped loving you once"

Alex's treatment of Alexa in 2014 is one of the worst thing we know about him. He dumped her and broke her heart in 2011 leaving her devastated (by her own admission) for years. He knew she was obsessed with him. She was not only heartbroken once again by Alex in 2014 but she was humiliated also. The fact she so quickly took back an ex who had left her heartbroken was probably something her friends were skeptical of, she so proudly wore his bands shirt on the anniversary of the announcement of their split.... all of this just to find out he wasn't serious and was cheating. If he wasn't serious about her he should never have agreed to get back with her.

The events of 2014 are why Alexa never speaks kindly about Alex in interviews anymore. Prior to 2014 she spoke kindly of him when he was raised but after 2014 she always seeks to change the subject. They supposedly have mended the fence over the years with his repeated apologies etc but they are not close.

Alexa was never the imperious ice queen you think she was either. She was obsessed with Alex and their relationship was not the one you portray where she was the dominant one and him the submissive. She did plenty of things for him she did not really want to keep the relationship going. Most obviously moving back to London in 2010 and taking the mtv gonzo gig she had no interest in.

Anyhow, I know a lot more (shamefully) about 2011-2014 that could add to all this but I've already written too much. If you were familiar with Alexa's unhinged late-night drunken social media postings in 2012 pining for Alex you might even sympathize with her! I spent way too much time on this app back in the day and it stuck.

Now you know the actual story of Alex/Alexa where she was more obsessed with him than he with her. You're right that their relationship is not how people romanticize. People who read Alex's letter or his lovelorn lyrics are given the mistaken impression that he was besotted with her but the reality is quite different.
