“You gotta figure it out,” Mickey insisted. “You need to figure that shit out, man, I swear to god. It’s like watching the Mona Lisa getting graffitied. I can’t fucking…” he muttered to himself before checking his watch. He needed to leave now. Mickey tossed his cigarette butt and climbed into his car to peel off without a further word.“

sometimes in the blue shadows of evening, i give way to tender feelings. i go into a garden, smelling the fragrance of spring with my poor monstrous nose, and watch [a man and a woman] two men strolling together in the moonlight. i think how much i, too, would like to be walking arm in arm with a [woman] man, under the moon. i let myself be carried away, i forget myself - and then i suddenly see the shadow of my profile on the garden wall.

i got inspired by a scene and quote from the movie ‘a different man’ (starring sebastian stan) that i resonated with a lot, so of course i decided to imagine mickey in it. as i drew this i sort of had in mind the aftermath 3x06 scene i drew previously so in a way it could be seen as a part 2? i don’t know, but you can find it here

i’m ashamed to admit this took me a while (went through almosf 2 audiobooks as i painted this) let’s pretend mickey’s face is anything but that!

the hedgehog's dilemma

The hedgehog's dilemma, or sometimes the porcupine dilemma, is a metaphor about the challenges of human intimacy. It describes a situation in which a group of hedgehogs seek to move close to one another to share heat during cold weather. They must remain apart, however, as they cannot avoid hurting one another with their sharp spines. Though they all share the intention of a close reciprocal relationship, this may not occur, for reasons they cannot avoid.

Arthur Schopenhauer conceived this metaphor for the state of the individual in society. Despite goodwill, humans cannot be intimate without the risk of mutual harm, leading to cautious and tentative relationships. It is wise to be guarded with others for fear of getting hurt and also fear of causing hurt. The dilemma may encourage self-imposed isolation.
