i couldn't link 6 mvs in that post like i wanted to but here's sf9's "move", which is a cover performance of move by taemin
youtube
finished kingdom! entered a stay and came out a fantasy ~ so many of the performances were amazing but i'll rank my top 6, excluding the intro stages which i also had faves in but didn't have as much time to show their stuff
6) stray kids' god's ddu-du ddu-du. one word. hype. actually another word. charisma. actually another word. Clever as fuck. it's such an incredibly fun performance i was glued to my seat and the pitch of excitement i built up was extraordinary. it felt so passionate and awesome and funny.
5) sf9's the stealer. COMPLETELY turned me around on them. i didn't like their first two performances, and with no prior knowledge of them, i was actually consistently pretty annoyed at them, especially because they ranked higher than i thought they deserved above other groups in the intro ranks. then they displayed peak acting skills, peak ability to make a comeback, and in fact tied the idea of a comeback into their performance in a way that worked really smoothly. watching it back, i'm not sure if this is honestly better than what i put as #6 in isolation, but it's the improvement of their performance quality that blows me away. just by their acting, they keep you riveted in the story
4) full daSH—i probably got biased because of the behind the scenes segments, but it felt so fitting to the soul of hip-hop for me (at least one soul of it as a wide music genre lol); the idea of bypassing popularity and just trying to have true fun, be honest, and speak as who you are, and it shows in the performance. they also display serious rap skills though of course the other group does as well
3) stray kids' self-god or i think "self and god" aka their side effect/god's menu mashup. SO COOL. sent chills down my spine. so creative, well made and well conceptualized, one of the most unique performances even with the later really individual and awesome things we got. veryyyy effective at telling a story as well, and gotta shoutout the upside down dancer.
2) btob's blue moon; i love jazz, and this performance is just so well conceptualized and timed. you can feel charisma oozing off of everyone, including miyeon, who fits in there neatly; the live band is also great i just LOVE how this sounds (btob ALWAYS kills the vocals)—they're so expressive, this one is really well acted and i like it very much, also call it an onion cause it's got layers
sf9's move. what a comeback group. i'm gay as hell, and the sex appeal definitely racheted this up the charts for me, but the thing is the sex appeal comes from pure skill. they know what they've got, and they play it perfectly, while constructing a well-conceptualized, flawlessly sung danced and expressed performance. they're an incredible group, and everyone should watch their performance. it stands out as the one i've rewatched the most
honorable mention to ateez's rhythm ta, which has stuck with me but just barely didn't make the cut, ikon's "at ease", which i think was their best performance and my favorite final live performance (though the songs also factor and i'm more split on those), and to the mayfly wolf performance, which was incredibly done, and to like...every performance, honestly, except like 3

My edo period samurai roommate keeps telling me how i’ll bring shame and dishonor to our apartment if I keep forgetting to wash the dishes. Like whatever dude, I’m not the one carrying on a passionate yet illicit affair with the daimyo’s daughter whose hand has already been promised to another.

why does no one talk about how funny the opening of hamlet is. the guards begging horatio who’s like trembling shaking about to pass out to speak to the ghost because uhhhh. he went to school?? he’s qualified?? horatio just repeatedly shouting ‘speak’ at it and getting no results. for some reason using ‘thou’ to address it directly after bernardo tells him it’s the ghost of the king. this attempt of course not working. the ghost leaving and the guards being like what the fuck horatio!!!! you offended it!!!!
