A fine and important Elsa Schiaparelli couture Zodiac jacket, the Astrology Collection, Winter, 1938-39, Paris. This is arguably one of the most beautiful of all Schiaparelli's creations with its glittering embroidery, shimmering star-shaped beads and rhinestones set against a midnight blue velvet background. Marlene Dietrich was photographed in her Beverly Hills residence in 1938 wearing the zodiac ensemble with matching dress. Schiap was fascinated by the night sky that she used to view as a child through her uncle's telescope - the renowned astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli, director of the Brera Observatory in Milan. He inspired in her a lifelong fascination with the celestial realm. He commented that the moles on her cheeks reminded him of the Big Dipper which she adopted as her 'lucky star', incorporating it into printed fabrics, the fabric lining her salon, her own personal jewellery as well as on this magnificent jacket. Schiaparelli's press agent Hortense MacDonald stated that the Astrology collection was defined by Euclid's famous geometric treatise - 'Elements'.

Serious Question

For friends who have and do write longfics ...

How do you manage to keep things on track and focused?

Do you struggle with motivation or feeling lost in their construction?

finding an error in someone else's fic: awe. we are all human - this is totally understandable and doesn't bother me whatsoever. it is almost endearing to know that others are not perfect, and in their excitement to share, they made a small mistake.

finding an error in your own fic: a merciful death is too kind for me. i deserve to be burnt on a pyre or publicly executed at dawn

It’s been years and it hasn’t changed, so I definitely think that this fandom will always give us those three types of posts on Tumblr:

tagged hate for the Virmire Survivor 

'there's only one shepard and that's fshep'

'garrus is the best LI and squadmate, the only one who properly loves and grieves Shepard'

There are no nuances, no trying to meet in the middle, and those posts are usually introduced by some statements like “we all agree that” and “we all know that” as if fandom is a monolith.

It can be pointless to fight back and get upset, but it can be good, from time to time, to point out that some people project way too much and that fandom is, of course, not a monolith.  Even if some posts have more than 1000 notes, it doesn’t mean we all agree with it. I know I don’t.

And you could tell those people that there’s plenty to love about the VS and that they were put in a difficult situation, that you can admire and respect fshep (and understand her importance) while identifying with mshep more and that there are others squadmates who love Shepard just as much… But I don’t think it will change much at this point. 

Anyway, taking others into consideration - sharing opinions with respect and care - is a key way to make fandom fun for everyone but some people just don’t want to do it. And that has been true on Tumblr every year I’ve been there. The good thing, to me, is that it makes others who do want to take others into consideration shine even more and I will hold on to you guys. Don’t leave me lol

[absolutely unprompted] i've always liked how neatly kaidan and a colonist shepard line up lore wise. both had a traumatic incident in their childhoods (that happened within a year of each other!), and kaidan's actions caused baat to shut down, preventing a biotic colonist shep from having to go there only a year after their parents were killed during the raid on mindoir.

also: kaidan helping out horizon in me2. and his little biotics special ops group targeting slavers and pirates in the attican traverse (where mindoir is!) and in the terminus systems.

i have no doubt this is something kaidan would do regardless, but when playing as a colonist shep, i love the headcanon that shepard is always in the back of his mind when aiding these colonists. even when he thought shep was dead, and especially when he thought they were lost under the control of the illusive man.
