PT.2 - SINGLE RECS [FRI 20th Dec "24]
My first single rec is “The Maker Makes” By Rufus Wainwright. is this song from a soundtrack? yes. is this song from the end of the movie brokeback mountain? also yes. ITS SUCH A FUCKING GUT WRENCHING MOVIE AND THEN TO BE HIT WITH THIS SONG IMMEDIATELY AFTER IS TORTURE LITERALLY GIVE ME A BREAK. genuinely was stuck listening to this song for an hour straight after watching this movie it threw me into such a deep pit of despair. 10/10 song, love Rufus Waiwright SOOOOOO MUCH AHHHHH PLEASE COME TO THE UK I BEG
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My second single rec is “August Underground” by Ethel Cain. Honestly if you haven't listened to preacher’s daughteryet WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOINGGGGG. this album is a fucking 10/10 in my humble opinion + for this song to be immediately after “Ptolemaea” and before “Televangelism” does something emotionally to my brain that i cant describe. the concept and themes of the album are fucking phenomenally explored within the music made by Hayden + i cant wait for the new album from her to release!! in the meantime this playlist fucks
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
my third single rec is “Juno” by Flipturn. ive been a fan of flipturn’s music since starting college/sixth form in 2021 and my love for them continues to grow year by year :)). they ALSO HAVE AN ALBUM COMING OUT SOON which i’m sooooo excited for especially if theres gonna be more songs like this on there :DD
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
my final single rec is “Hearing Damage” by Thom Yorke. I found this one a couple of days ago and fucking love it. ik im pretty late to the party when it comes to this track but better late than never. what else can i say? i love radiohead, i love thom yorke, i love music :))

PT.1 - ALBUM RECS [ FRI 20th Dec "24]
My first album recommendation is “Vespertine” by our lord and saviour Björk. I’ve been a fan of björk for a while now ever since my friends wouldn’t stop recommending her to me last year i’ve been hooked ever since. This album is probably my favourite album of hers with “homogenic” coming 2nd in that respect. i recently bought this album on cd (thinking back i think i bought this cd before joining this site but id not given it a good listen on my player since buying it due to being wayyyy to busy) + gave it another proper sit down listen a couple of weeks ago + i don’t think i will ever find another album that both inspires me + effects me emotionally the way this one does. what an artist.
FFO: Arca, Thom Yorke + Aphex Twin
Favourite songs: “Undo” “Cocoon” “Frosti” “Pagan Poetry” + “its not up to you” (honestly the whole album may as well be here ngl)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My second album rec is “some heavy ocean” by Emma Ruth Rundle. I think the last time i was online here, i mentioned me seeing her live + honestly she was breath taking, i hope to be able to see her again some time soon. This album is tied with another album of hers called “Marked for Death” when it comes to my favourite album of hers, both of them have a place in my heart and explore different sonic realms while still maintaining her sound which i find fucking awesome. great staple artist for all the gothic rock fans out there.
FFO: Chelsea Wolfe, Ethel Cain, Fois Gras + King Woman
Favourite Song: “Run Forever”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My Third EP Rec is “Up like a weather balloon” by Flip Top Head. i discovered these guys via a single of theirs called “Alfred Street” which is a fucking banger + in the search for more i discovered this EP. This is record defo for people who enjoy the British “post-punk” scene. these guys are definitely ones to look out for.
FFO: BCNR, Mary in the Junkyard + Do Nothing
Favourite Songs: “I Can’t Wait Till I’m Old” “ Weightlifter” + “Jesse Paints The Houses”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The last EP Rec is “ixtab” by my dead girlfriend. From memory, i found this band via another japanese band called “Kinokoteikoku” + just like i did with that band, i fell in love with this one. This year for some reason ever since finding and listening to “FLat7” + “Midori” I’ve been being fed all of these really fucking cool noise/shoegaze bands from japan + honestly i’m loving it. i need more.
FFO: Kinokoteikoku, Julie, FLat7 + CONDOR44
Favourite Song: “watashi no aishita manatsu no shinigami”

Wave Your Moonlight Hat for the Snowfall Train - Youll Never Get To Heaven [THUR 17th Sep "24]
Recommendation for this week is "Wave Your Moonlight Hat for the Snowfall Train" by you'll never get to heaven. I found this album from listening to a Björk track (pagan poetry) on repeat for hours to then get the craving to use the radio feature on Spotify, and low + behold the song "setting sun" from this album was top of the list :3
i've been very busy recently so i've been barely listening to music which Is strange as a music student so i'm hoping this will mean the return of me discovering again because I miss moments like these greatly.
for fans of: Björk, Cocteau Twins + Autumn's Grey Solace
Favourite song: "Setting Sun"

Hourglass - idialedyournumber [WED 11th Sep "24]
Recommendation for this week is "Hourglass" by idialedyournumber. I found these guys from the music video for their song "Bunny Goes 2 Business School" and haven't looked back since. Their music is an amazing capsule and display of lofi and analog techniques and how they can be implimented and integrated into the world of music. honestly its kinda a breath of fresh air from all of the hi-fi noise rock music out there + I honestly prefer the sound that they carry within this genre and think more bands and artists should play around with older lofi techniques within their music regardless of the music they make.
Honestly ones to look out for and given they continue what they're doing I feel like these guys could be massive within the space!!
For Fans Of: Los Campesinos!, Late night drive home, Machine Girl + Lowertown
Favourite Song(s): Bunny Goes 2 Business School + The Home We Built Is Gone

x2 Recs + Artist Recs [MON 26th Aug "24]
First recommendation of this week is "Mezzanine" by Massive Attack. I Heard this album for the first time last year towards the end of college as one of my lecturers allowed us to listen to it in full for a lesson which was cool as hell. A couple of weeks ago now me and two mates of mine played Resident Evil 7, drank + ate food for a day and when we all started to get tired we chucked on this album and it was great. yesterday those two mates saw these guys live + got to see Elizabeth Frazer (yes from Cocteau Twins) play some of the songs from this record and im SOOOOOOO fucking jealous :((. anyways I feel like this album is one of the classic albums that everyone should listen to at some point (kinda like rumours) ESPECIALLY if you're into dream-pop, Trip-hop, electronic + Shoegaze music :))
For Fans Of: Cocteau Twins, Roni Size + Portished
Favourite Song(s): Risingson + Black Milk
Second recommendation is "93696" by Liturgy. I found liturgy a while back via the Instagram music function on stories of all places, however I fell in love instantly. I found them towards the midway point of my deep dive into more experimental music through the track djenneration and literally would not (and since have not) shut up about them. I got to see them live on Saturday at a local music venue which was so fucking sick!! I also got one of the songs they played on video via my camcorder so I will probably upload that to YouTube and post it here at some point so that you lot can see it too :)). Great band, Great music :D
For Fans Of: Swans, Uboa + Lightning Bolt
Favourite Song(s): 93696 + Djenneration
BONUS THIRD RECOMENDATION!!!
This last one isn't an album but a band recommendation!! This band is called Sans Froid are a local band that I love so much!! I first heard their stuff at a gig for a band called PEACH (which fun fact the lecturer I mentioned earlier also plays drums in) of which they were supporting and I immediately fell in love. I have been following their releases for a while and to my knowledge they have an EP out alongside a few singles :)) My Favourite song of theirs at the moment is "Planket"

x2 Recommendations :)) [MON 19th Aug "24]
First recommendation for this week is a beautifully haunting doom//ambient album called "Weighing Sounds With Sand" by The Angelic Process, a project which as mentioned in their Spotify description formed in 1999 and were around until about 2008 (you can look up the details If you feel so inclined be warned however as it involves the topic of mental health + death). Ive been meaning to listen to this album for months now after finding "Million Year Summer" in December. This past week i've been listening to it on and off and am in complete awe of it, the textures and layers that live within every track on this album has inspired me soooo much.
in sharing it I hope It can inspire you too <3
For Fans of: Ethel Cain, Swans, Uboa
Favourite Track(s): How To Build a Time Machine (WSWS Ver.) + Dying In A-Minor
Second recommendation is the icon that was SOPHIE and her album "OIL OF EVERY PEARL'S UN-INSIDES" . This album and her production talent quite literally paved the way for your modern day faves within the electro pop scene. I was introduced to her music via a close friend a couple of years ago now and I will admit at first I didn't understand what was so great about her music because I had only heard a few seconds of a song + hadn't sat down with her stuff however when I did a while back I fell in love. as of writing this im listening to this album again and I forget sometimes how emotional it makes me now. This one is another recommendation where you should listen to it at least once regardless of if you like the genre or not. Anyways with "brat summer" coming to a close it only feels right to honour Sophie in some way :)
RIP queen, we miss you everyday <3
For Fans Of: Charli xcx, Arca + The Dare
Favourite Track(s): Faceshopping, Immaterial + Is It Cold In The Water?

Lush - Mitski [WED 14th Aug "24]
Mid week addition to the blog this week but just couldn't hold off on it till next Monday. I remembered this "Lush's" existence this week and have been listening to it on and off ever since. This will probably sound a tad bias to those that know me irl as I was once an avid Mitski listener + in general enjoy her discography a lot however, I truly believe Lush is one of those albums everyone needs to listen to at least once in their life, its such a fucking amazing debut album and I doubt I'll ever fully get over it in my life time. The same goes for her second album "Retired From Sad, New Career In Business" + her fourth "Puberty 2". Anyways moral of the story, go listen to her music it's so fricking good you wont regret it.
p.s - prepare to cry :(
For Fans Of // If You Like This Album Listen To - Kelsey Lu, Red House Painters, Voice Coils (Duh) + Matt Maltese
Favourite Song (s) - Eric, Door + Real Men :3

Erynias - Predawka [MON 12th Aug "24]
I found this artist while trying to fall asleep last Friday on YouTube of all places. it was late, around midnight and then the autoplay just started playing this album and I fell in love. I will admit IDM isn't usually a genre I grab or reach for when listening to music whilst travelling however I found myself listening to this album on the way to and from work yesterday. I like how the artist (predawka) incorporates ambience into their tracks giving them an almost dreamy haze to the album.
p.s. - the album art is also really cool :D
even if you aren't a massive IDM fan I 100% recommend you give this album a go at some point :)
For Fans Of - Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada + Jan Jelinek
Favourite Song - Basscend + Basslord

Foie Gras - Bate Kush [MON 5th Aug "24]

Foie Gras is a solo project that has been rotting in my liked songs folder for months now, I discovered said project via the song "Twisted Euth" from this Album when I was knee deep in love with Chelsea Wolfe and her latest release. Today I decided to listen to the 10 minute album in full as while I had my likes on shuffle yesterday Twisted Euth came on and I can say whole heartedly this is one of my favourite sounding albums out there. It carries a really distinct and enchanting Lo-Fi sound throughout the whole journey and i'm fully here for it.
So glad I circled back around to this album <3
For Fans Of - Chelsea Wolfe, Ethel Cain, Lana Del Rey, King Woman + Cocteau Twins
Favourite Song - Judgement Day
