For the last goddamn time...

"Kill your darlings" means "if something is holding you back, get rid of it, even if it sounds pretty."

That's it! That's all it means! It means if you're stuck and stalled out on your story and you could fix the whole block by removing something but you're avoiding removing that thing because it's good, you remove that thing. That's the darling.

It does NOT mean

That you have to get rid of your self-indulgent writing

That you should delete something just because you like it (?wtf?)

That you need to kill off characters (??? what)

That you have to pare your story down to the absolute bare bones

That you have to delete anything whatsoever if you don't want to

The POINT is that you STOP FEELING GUILTY for throwing out good writing that isn't SERVING THE STORY.

The POINT is that you don't get so HUNG UP on the details that you lose sight of the BIG PICTURE.

The exception to this is cats!

Cats are an invasive species on every continent other than Antarctica. They kill billions of birds each year.

It's also INCREDIBLY dangerous for the cats. Kittens raised by their mother outside only have a 25% chance of making it to 8 weeks. On the other hand, kittens raised by inexperienced fosters have a 40% chance of survival and kittens raised by experienced fosters have a 60% chance. If you can get mom, kittens raised indoors with mom have a whopping 80% chance of survival!

So PLEASE kidnap those kittens!

A thread on Twitter this morning. Guys, don’t pirate comics. Please. Comics is a very small (mostly) creator run industry, so when you scan or torrent a comic, you’re directly hurting the creators. Even if you pirate comics from major publishers, you’re really only denying the creators of their income.

Artists/writers who work on comics make next to nothing. It’s commonplace in the comics industry for the people that make them to be constantly struggling to make ends meet. Just buy a book here and there. Support a Patreon. If you like the work, support it. We work very long hours to make the content you’re enjoying. We would like to not have to worry about how we’re going to buy food while we do it.

This is unironically a headcanon of mine btw. Id like to imagine, that the first contact with humans on the surface only went as smoothly as it did, because (almost) all of the children that were lost to the mountain returned unharmed. Too bad that neither Asgore nor any other Monster know what really happened and is therefor just sort of rolling with it, in the name of peace. Bit on the fence if I wanted to share this necessarily but in the end, I like it enough for what it is!

I swear my computer growing up was shy. Saving the Sims always took FOREVER and would sometimes crash the program completely, causing me to lose all of my progress. However, if I saved, left the room, and came back in a couple minutes, it would be done saving by the time I came back in, without fail.

Eventually I ended up giving my computer gentle encouragement and assuring it I wasn't watching while I would do something else on my bed and it had the same effect.
