I'm pretty sure every writer has:
● picked zodiac signs for their characters
● spent hours finding each MC their "theme song"
● written a raw af line that has not fit into any story (yet)
● opened the doc to start writing and ending up staring at it while daydreaming new projects/scenes to music instead

a writing competition i was going to participate in again this year has announced that they now allow AI generated content to be submitted
their reasoning being that "we couldn't ban it even if we wanted to, every writer already uses it anyway"
"Every writer"?
come on

"found family" but it's the people they stumbled across during a deadly quest, and pulled each other through hell, and while in between their was no conversation, no sweet words, and if asked they'd hesitate to call them friends, they always circle back to one another because who else would they go to? who else are they supposed to turn to, but these people who's saved their lives and they'd always turn back to save theirs?

love triangle but it's a group of three friends and character A is the reason character B and C know each other at all, and B and C are so fond of A, but never say anything, not wanting to ruin their friendship, but B and C clock their feelings and meet to rant about A, about how much they care, about how they're too scared to do anything, and then the talks slowly aren't about A at all, but each other, and what they like, and they start meeting up more and more just the two of them, and realize that hanging out with A isn't that painful anymore and they're relieved to be released from this yearning and falling into each others arms instead; and A who knew of both their feelings for them, and didn't feel the same, but never said anything, leading them on because they only want to be cared for and loved and doesn't know how to properly get that love and care, was too scared to ruin it, and are now left alone panicking that their two friends will leave them now that they have each other (they won't)

I need help finding a book, I have forgotten the title and the author and it is driving me insane
it is a middle grade fantasy (with some horror elements?) about a kingdom that, in some type of ritual/tradition/power ploy, send monsters to the neighboring town, and I think it follows a boy from that town that learns some secret about the monsters(?). the cover (I think) is dark blue with silhouettes of monsters with white eyes, a castle, and a person holding a sword
pretty sure it was published in 2024, or maybe it is coming out later this year. any help is appreciated, I am going crazy

In a lot of fiction when we see our main character go through a ton of horrible things to Start Their Journey and they always end up with a convenient free place to live/stay a bit. Which I understand, who wants to write about financial struggles in a fantasy/sci-fi world, but I think we're missing some comedic potential here. I want to see a fantasy character worry about rent

a quick psa to anyone recently getting into greek mythology and is a victim of tumblr and/or tiktok misconceptions:
-there is no shame in being introduced to mytholgy from something like percy jackson, epic the musical or anything like that, but keep in mind that actual myths are going to be VERY different from modern retellings
-the myth of medusa you probably know (her being a victim of poseidon and being cursed by athena) isn't 100% accurate to GREEK mythology (look up ovid)
-there is no version of persephone's abduction in which persephone willingly stays with hades, that's a tumblr invention (look up homeric hymn to demeter)
-as much as i would like it, no, cerberus' name does not mean "spot" (probably a misunderstanding from this wikipedia article)
-zeus isn't the only god who does terrible things to women, your fav male god probably has done the same
-on that note, your fav greek hero has probably done some heinous shit as well
-gods are more complicated than simply being "god of [insert thing]", many titles overlap between gods and some may even change depending on where they were worshipped
-also, apollo and artemis being the gods of the sun and the moon isn't 100% accurate, their main aspects as deities originally were music and the hunt
-titans and gods aren't two wholly different concepts, titan is just the word used to decribe the generation of gods before the olympians
-hector isn't the villain some people make him out to be
-hephaestus WAS married to aphrodite. they divorced. yes, divorce was a thing in ancient greece. hephaestus' wife is aglaia
-ancient greek society didn't have the same concepts of sexuality that we have now, it's incorrect to describe virgin goddesses like artemis and athena as lesbians, BUT it's also not wholly accurate to describe them as aromantic/asexual, it's more complex than that
-you can never fully understand certain myths if you don't understand the societal context in which they were told
-myths have lots and lots of retellings, there isn't one singular "canon", but we can try to distinguish between older and newer versions and bewteen greek and roman versions
-most of what you know about sparta is probably incorrect
-reading/waching retellings is not a substitute to reading the original myths, read the iliad! read the odyssey! i know they may seem intimidating, but they're much more entertaining than you may think
greek mythology is so complex and interesting, don't go into it with preconcieved notions! try to be open to learn!
