❛ — ‘Uke’ is a Japanese term used in Boys Love manga to describe a submissive and usually more ‘effeminate’ and fragile queer man, and one who takes on the receiving role in the relationship.

⤷ This is NOT a coining post! I simply made the flag, but I take no credit for the term itself.

✙ 𓂃 The reason I made this flag is because I feel like twink & bear terms refer to body types too much, and are too exclusionary for most mlms. Butch & Femme may seem like more appropriate terms, but I know there are many reasons why mlms may be opposed to using them for themselves; thus, I propose we unironically start using the uke/seme distinction. While it’s not perfect, and does have many stereotypes, I think it’s a good start for those who want a label to describe their dynamic in a relationship. Thank you for reading this. ^_^
