The Astoundingly Complex Ancient Indian Stepwells
Ancient Indian stepwells captured by Victoria S. Lautman. Rudimentary stepwells first appeared in India between the 2nd and 4th centuries A.D., born of necessity in a capricious climate zone bone-dry for much of the year followed by torrential monsoon rains for many weeks. It was essential to guarantee a year-round water-supply for drinking, bathing, irrigation and washing, particularly in the arid states of Gujarat (where they’re called vavs) and Rajasthan (where they’rebaoli, baori, or bawdi) where the water table could be inconveniently buried ten-stories or more underground. Over the centuries, stepwell construction evolved so that by the 11th century they were astoundingly complex feats of engineering, architecture, and art.

“Everything I do now, I do to please Allah. I conquered the world and it didn’t bring me true happiness. The only true satisfaction comes from honouring and worshipping God. Time passes quick. This life is short, I see my daughter Maryum.
Yesterday, she was a baby, now she’s grown and is ready to get married. Everyday is a judgement for me. Every night when I go to bed, I ask myself: ‘If God was to judge me on what I did today, would I go to heaven or hell?’
Being a true Muslim is the most important thing in the world to me. It means more to me than being black or being American. I can’t save other people’s soul, only God can do that. But I can try to save mine.”
- Muhammad Ali | May you be showered with Allah’s mercy and blessings.

Tribute to #Einstein! This board was used by Einstein when he was in Oxford university a century ago and today scientist detected 'gravitational waves in black holes. they heard and recorded the sounds, which was predicted by Albert Einstein 100 years ago on 'theory of relativity' why it took 100 years? and why is it so important? how come he figured out with lack of technology on that time? It is important because it opens a new chapter for us reaching to black holes, able to see behind of them through with waves with chirps since i was child, i always believed that there are galaxies, planets, life other side of black holes. Now it is not rocket science to figure it out. #gravitationalwaves #nasa (at University of Oxford)

Himmel aus Beton - Skies of Concrete Gisela Erlacher
Gisela Erlacher is fascinated by hybrid, improvised urban situations. With public space being under increasing pressure in today’s world of global acceleration and urbanization, spaces we are unconscious of edge ever more into focus. In her project Skies of Concrete she shows spaces and spatial situations that result from the construction of bridges or from the appropriation of spaces under them. Erlacher has photographed such non-spaces in China, Great Britain, Netherlands, and Austria. They are characterized by being situated under a structure and by the stunning spatial configurations resulting from this. This new book presents for the first time a selection of Erlacher’s striking photographs that allow multiple levels of reading.

hidden gems of Istanbul Russian consulate is located in Istiklal square in Beyoglu. Russia wanted to renew the embassy in much bigger and more arty-craft after the damaged in great fire in Beyoglu, Russian government commissioned the Italian architect, Gaspare Fossati, construction was fully completed in 1849. Building has neo-classical and baroque style. Flashy facade and big courtyard are always catch visitors attention from old times to today. Gaspare Fossati's work was loved by Ottoman government and he was asked to stay in Istanbul for 20 years more and given more than 50 construction projects, including restoration of Hagia Sophia. It was one best and favorite project which he was participated, so did he said. If you watched 'James Bond Russia with love' there was underground path from consulate to grand bazaar. As all we know that, there is an another city below Istanbul, another 'hidden gems' :) Istanbul'un gizli hazineleri Istiklal caddesinde bulunan Rusya elcilik binasi, Beyoglu'nda ki buyuk yangin ile harap olunca, hukumet eskisinden daha buyuk ve daha gosterisli bir bina istemis bunun icin de Italyan mimar Gaspare Fossati'yi gorevlendirmisler.

#dialogueinthedark is must seen place in your city. Today we were blind for 90 mins in the place where fully blacked out. No single point of light. We were given stick for moving in the city. We went to Taksim square, hop on to tram, took a ferry, went to park. We made them just like blind people. We wittness to their life, their problem. I was scared so much even though i was always touching to my friends, i was in very secure place. Realise how much luxury i had, i lucky i was, importance of the sences and health. Saw how street life is dangerous for them. I hope my empathy will continue from now on. #istanbulda1yer #empathy #blind #awareness #istanbul (at Dialogue in the Dark - Türkiye)

Prinkipo Greek Orthodox Orphanage or Buyukada Orphanage. It is world second biggest timber construction in the world (biggest in Europe). It was built by French-Ottoman architect in 1898 and sold in 1903 by Greek banker and donated to Ecumenical Patriarchate of Istanbul. Orphanage operated until 1964. Since than it is getting damaged and ruined. During the last decades; Greece and Turkey had so much debate about orphanage. Greece claims it back or at least restore it however Turkey doesnt in acc to laws. Even raied an issue in EU. It is 'rescue needed' building in Global Heritage Network. It is heartbreaking to see this valuable building to ruined... It sould be restore asap... (at Prinkipo Greek Orthodox Orphanage)
