1 of Sam's perfect memories being the night he left for Stanford is so fucking sad. he wanted so desperately to be extant from his family, in control, a Real Adult. to be strong enough to leave the only people you've ever known or loved. to trust yourself like that. I'm sure others have said this but when he leaves Dean to go kill Lilith in season 4 it's literally an exact parallel of him leaving John for Stanford, right down to the 'if you walk out that door, don't you ever come back'. number one way to ENSURE that sam 'autonomy issues' winchester walks out that door. to trust yourself again, to give going it alone a shot, AGAIN. and to have to come limping back again. to have your two absolute expressions of individuality and autonomy A) kill the woman you love, and B) literally end the world. you can't make your own decisions, you're never in control, someone (brady, ruby, azazel) is always manipulating you and you should feel sorry for even trying.

Burned through that last beer hours ago. Right about the time Dean passed out. Come on, Sam, tell the nice tweaker. You’d be sleeping now if the devil would leave you alone for five seconds. Stupid Satan. Chasing you all the way to… Where the hell are we?

It must have enraged Lucifer that Sam has a brother who shows up for him. Just a few moments before Dean arrived, Lucifer tried to talk Michael down and say they didn’t have to fight. They could just be brothers. Michael said no. Lucifer’s betrayals were too great.

Like we focus on Dean and the impala catching Sam’s attention inside, but I do have to wonder if Lucifer also lost focus and accidentally gave Sam an opportunity to come to the surface, because it filled him with jealous rage that Dean showed up for his brother in spite of everything.

going through the improvised lines page on spn wiki is honestly funny because every entry is like "originally the script called for everyone to stand there like cardboard cutouts. the actors made the decision to add lines and action."

I mean this so genuinely. Regardless of how you feel about Sam, arguing that he wasn't a victim of demon blood is a willful misinterpretation of the text. From six month old Sam being forced to drink demon blood in the crib to Ruby swooping in to groom Sam when he's suicidal and get him hooked on an addictive substance to being locked in a room and forced to endure torturous detox. Recognizing that Sam is a victim deprived of autonomy =/= removing all culpability from the decisions he made.
