Kpop Demon hunters is such an amazing movie. I mean I’m not a huge fan of Kpop but this movie just became one of my favourites. (Spoilers down below)
Thanks to it’s themes and characters almost anyone can connect to this movie. Every character is so well written.
Rumi with her self esteem issues and her shame of her demonic heritage. Zoey feeling like she doesnt belong anywhere, certainly a response to trauma of being torn between 2 cultures, 2 countries and parents. And Mira who was the black sheep of her family because she doesnt go along with the expectations that were put on her as the daughter of her family.
Tumblr media
With Huntrix they finally have found a family, stability. People on who they can rely on.
But even with this new found family the girls still have insecurities to be left alone because of who they are. Rumi is affraid to be rejected because she represent everything that the hunters fight and resent. Zoey is scared to be rejected because she is feels like she is too much and too little at the same time. And Mira is scared she will be rejected because of her personality and her attitude. This shows in the last songs where they finally aknowledge their fears to each others and decide to embrace it as apart of themselves.

The same goes with Jinu he is being devoured by the shame of his past actions. He has been selfish and is unable to move on. His marks are a constant reminder that he sold his soul for a comfortable life for himself, leaving his family behind. Rumi made him accept his mistake and help him free himself (for a short time at least) from the influence of Kwi-ma.

Rumi is such an amazing character. It’s rare that I connect with a character so deeply, but the way she’s written — raw, flawed, and painfully real — hits hard. Her insecurities and weaknesses don’t just weigh her down; they completely shatter her self-confidence, to the point where she literally loses her voice. It’s heartbreaking. CĆ©line’s ā€œeducationā€ didn’t make her stronger — it destroyed her self-esteem.
She cant accept her demonic heritage because it’s ugly, dangerous, a mistake. But it’s also part of her and her journey to accept that part of her that she hates so much comes with Jinu. He gives her a new perspective on her marks on who she is. That those marks don’t define her as a person but are still part of her identity.
But it also comes with Zoey and Mira. They both suffer from different issues but are also the victims of CƩline lessons. They learned to be strong but at the cost of their mental health, their self esteem and even their relationship with each other.
And when you really look at it, CĆ©line is just continuing a cycle of psychological abuse. One that probably started with the 1st Huntress. A legacy where self-sacrifice is everything. Where saving the world comes before your feelings, your mind, your life. But what makes this story so powerful is watching them finally push back. Watching them choose healing over duty. Watching them say, ā€œWe deserve more.ā€
It’s beautiful, it’s heartbreaking, it’s real.

God that movie is a master piece. The sound track is perfect and the story Is amazing. At first I was expecting some chill cute movie with no deep meaning or message but damn was I wrong. Kpop demon hunters is so intelligent about it’s message unlike other movies with the same theme of self love and acceptation.
I really love how this movie focuse on the importance of communication and accepting what you are ashamed of. Every character has their own feelings and insecurities and that’s what make that movie so good.

One of the banes of my existence is being into shows with deep, complex sibling relationships… only to dive into the fandom or fanart and realize that half of it is incest ships.
Can you imagine how traumatic it was for me when I looked up Osomatsu san fanfictions on AO3. Why are half of them shiping the Matsuno brothers, like what the hell. The same goes for Tmnt why are so many fanfics or fanarts about incest. There are tags dedicated to it. How is that real !?
Even when the show isn’t focusing on sibling interactions I don’t know why it’s still present. Like why the hell do I found Sherlock and Mycroft incest fanfics when I was looking for Johnlock.
Even kids shows aren’t safe I looked up the fanfics of Belfort and Lupin (a french kid show) and somehow some people though the 2 sisters of Belfort needed to be subjected to incest fanfics
I mean it’s disgusting and wrong on so many levels and sometimes it stop me from looking up for fanfics. I don’t want to see that, and it sucks that it’s so normalized in some circles.
It’s dangerous normalization. Incest isn’t romantic. It’s not ā€œtaboo but hot.ā€ It’s abuse. It’s about a power imbalance, and it's often rooted in real-life trauma. When you know that 1 in 10 children experiences some form of incest, it’s horrifying to see fandom spaces treat it like just another ship trope.

I think it’s really important to be able to take an objective look at a show you like. Not everything has to be deep analysis, but it does matter what messages a show sends or the kind of first impression it gives. I see some people get super defensive whenever someone critiques their favorite show, but like… sometimes those criticisms are valid ?
I mean I for one am a huge fan of Osomatsu san but it would be lying to say that sometimes some jokes didnt age well or that some depictions of certain communties or cultures are bad (even for a satire or a comedy).
And it’s also always important to share those sentiments around our favourite shows to show that we are aware that some plot points may be poorly written but that we still enjoy the show despite this. Being able to spot problematic tropes or representation is what makes media evolve.
I think it’s important we talk about this more in fandoms. What are some shows you love that have this kind of complicated relationship for you ?

I’m obsessed with Osomatsu-san, and I think I’ve figured out why—I'm a big sister, and I can't help but gravitate toward fandoms with strong sibling dynamics. Like, come on, which older sibling wouldn't totally vibe with Osomatsu’s relationship with his little brothers. Both completely obsessed by how cute our little sibling can be or how infuriating they are.
It’s one of the shows that portrays the best that chaotic energy it takes to live with someone you grew up with.
It’s both hilarious and cute. Every sibling can identify to those scenes where the sextuplet are just beating the crap out of each other for some stupid thing such as ordering a pizza and then can’t stop laughing together at jokes only them understand.
It’s the same reason I’m obsessed with shows like Tmnt (2018 and tottmnt). I always get all mushy when I see sweet sibling interractions between the brothers. And April in the 2018 version ? She’s basically their big sister and it’s just precious. Despite how different they all are, they’re still this solid, unshakable little family. Those kinds of dynamics get me every time. I guess I just really love stories where people love each other fiercely, messily, and with lots of yelling.

I’m so excited for Osomatsu san 4th season. The Vibe seems different but I can’t wait to see my little neets.
I love their new outfits and I’m not gonna complain to see them having a chill time together on their summer break. I’m so happy I get to see more of them after so long. I hope this season will adress the issue with Osomatsu and the codependency between him and his brothers. I know it’s played for laughs, but I still hope they explore it a bit more.

I guess this blog will just be me posting whatever is going through my mind at the time. Which is random to be honest. I mean I have way to many hobbies and fandoms I’m part of but at least it fills the void of my existence (just kidding).

When I find a new comfort show it always feels like the characters are becoming an important part of my life. I start spending all of my time researching any bit of info about them, I even write fanfics. I guess I do that because it’s easier to focus on characters that comfort me in my lifestyle than confronting reality.
Maybe I’m a coward but it’s easy. And honestly who wouldn’t rather rewatch Sherlock or Osomatsu-san for the 20th time than face the news?
