Spending more time with my friends and shooting informal candid portraits. I’d love to fly away with them sometimes.

The salt spray, the cool mist, and the roar of the crashing surf.  Swallowed in the rich aroma of decomposing kelp that, mixed with the sweet fragrance of moist Cedar bark and needles which line the coastal rain forest.  For me, there is no place for which those cycles of life and death are more tactile than along that wild seashore. Ah, what great medicine that is. Medicine for the soul!

Life can be found only in the present moment. The past is gone, the future is not yet here, and if we do not go back to ourselves in the present moment, we cannot be in touch with life.

With abundance of rainfall, and the rich moistness of the cool pacific ocean, the coastal rain forests on the Olympic Peninsula offer a rich display of birth and the cycles of life, death and rebirth. The nourishment of decay in plant materials and the upwards explosion of another season of birth and growth are quite palpable. One can smell and taste the rich cycles and be reminded of our connection to all that surrounds us. Crossing paths with an Elk on a moonlit trail is something not easily forgotten…. We need more of these reminders….A cold swim in the Pacific, watching the logs being tossed about like sticks…. yes, these are the reminders and the things that make us really feel ALIVE!
film photography, from the files…….

There were moments, sometimes extending into hours, and even days- when the mind and spirit were pure, clear and connected to all the life, matter and energy of this world and the cosmic eternity. Might it be possible to recapture that ecstasy? Somewhere near Zion, Utah
