I’ve had this AU circling around my head for a little while and I’m starting to convince myself it actually makes sense. Now this is mostly to push my lesbian Azula and pansexual Katara agenda but what if, hear me out, what if when Azula’s assigned by Ozai to capture the Avatar she gets injured during her search and Katara finds her and, feeling sympathy for her, she heals Azula. After Katara helps her Azula continues to chase and harass the Gaang which gives Katara even more validation for her distrust of anyone from the Fire Nation.
The whole time though Azula secretly gained an admiration for Katara after she healed her and would purposely also pursue her when tracking down Aang and the two form a bit of a frenemies with romantic tension relationship. When Katara shows up with Zuko to defeat her during the last Agni Kai, Azula’s motivations when aiming lightning at Katara aren’t just to hurt Zuko who obviously cares for her, but to hurt them both for, in her eyes, betraying her by letting Zuko steal Katara away from her. And when Katara rushes to aid Zuko after he’s been hit Azula’s fueled by the fury and the pain of once again losing out on affection and love to Zuko.
Ohh Batman is so moral ohh he can’t be with cat woman long term bc shell never stop being a criminal- he doesn’t care. I don’t think Bruce Wayne gives a shit about laws or criminality outside of the scope of justice. He would happily marry Selina unchanged and would delight in her robbing museums (which robbed the people’s who’s artifacts they boast). He gets off on Selina trying to steal from him. She gets off on him trying to stop her. They don’t hold hands in public they just take turns pick pocketing each other. Theyre two extreme rule breakers living on the fringes of society clinging to normality with the tips of their fingers breaking the law is just foreplay
What do you think of Catwoman? What makes her the best love interest for Batman over the the unending list of love interests and fan wars involving Zatanna and Wonder Woman(god, that pairing never made sense to me!)?
This specifically I can answer: because there's something beautiful about Bruce losing his parents to a petty thief, and then choosing to start a new family with a petty thief.
More than anything besides his adoption of the Robins perhaps, Bruce engaging in a relationship with Selina is a huge moment of character development for him. He's choosing to open himself - freaking Batman the poster boy for emotional repression! - to someone who has engaged in the biggest taboo one possibly could where Batman is concerned: crime. That's huge! Trusting Wonder Woman or Zatanna with his secret identity or entering into a relationship with them is nowhere near that difficult, both of those women are morally upright people. But Selina? She's morally murky at times, sometimes even been an outright enemy of Bruce. Catwoman is a criminal, the exact entity Batman was made to wage war on. Taking her into his confidence, marrying her, trusting her, that to me is growth. Bruce is a control freak but he's choosing to let go of that total control in order to be with someone he loves.
When he gets with Selina it's a sign that he's finally starting to heal from his trauma. Batman can finally see people as individuals instead of criminals and victims. We keep getting stories that affirm how being Batman isn't only about his parents anymore for Bruce, but it keeps getting retold because you need a status quo shakeup to sell it. Marrying Selina could have been that, the sign that says "Batman is fueled by a different engine besides trauma now"... which ultimately is why they nixed it. Traumatized Batman sells, can a Batman who is starting to heal sell the same? I dunno, but I wish DC had given it a chance.
