"Three days after an Iranian missile struck a residential building in the coastal city of Bat Yam, the names of five Ukrainian victims — all members of the same family — were released. All were civilians from Odessa who had come to Israel seeking life-saving cancer treatment for a young girl.
Seven-year-old Nastia Borik had been undergoing treatment in Israel for leukemia. She was killed in the missile strike along with her mother, Maria Peshkurova, 30; her grandmother, Lena Peshkurova, 60; and two of her young cousins, Konstantin Totvich, 9, and Ilya Peshkurov, 13. The two boys, who were Maria’s nephews on her mother’s side, attended local schools in Bat Yam."
may they rest in peace.

Joseph (originally Josek) Budko was a Jewish artist born in Płońsk, Poland, in 1888. He moved to Vilna/Vilnius to study painting when he was approximately 17 years old. Five years later Budko moved to Berlin to continue his art studies. In 1912 he became a student of German-Jewish artist Hermann Struck. In 1933 Budko made Aliyah (moved to Eretz Israel, Mandatory Palestine) and resided in Rehavia, Jerusalem. In 1935 he became the first director of "The New Bezalel School of Arts and Crafts". Budko passed away in 1940, and was buried at the Jewish Cemetery on the Mount of Olives.

Alexei (Liosha) Popov z"l, 52 years old, was killed in a Hezbollah rocket attack on October 19, 2024. Alexei was originally from Ukraine. He and his wife moved to Israel (made Aliyah) in 2018. Alexei lost several friends to the war in Ukraine. He supported Ukraine and helped with collecting money and equipment for the Ukrainian army.
Alexei had gone to buy fruits and vegetables on Saturday, October 19, during the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. He was driving back home to Kiryat Haim when terrorist organisation Hezbollah launched rockets towards Israel. Alexei, upon hearing the siren, slowly stopped his car on the side of the road. Before he could get out and lie down on the ground, a rocket hit near the road and Alexei got hit by sharpnel. He was severely injured and died shortly after.
Alexei left behind a wife, two kids, a granddaughter he never had a chance to meet, and many friends. May he rest in peace. May his memory be a blessing. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

if Jews don’t feel safe in the environment you’ve created, you’ve created an antisemitic environment. i don’t get why that’s a hard concept to internalize and comprehend.
