Boxy's Fandom Commandments of Losing Credibility In Fan Discussion

These are a set of 6 laws I came up with (because it's late at night and I'm bored) that are essentially all of the ways I can conceivably think of to instantly lose at fandom discourse (Essentially, these are the fandom equivalent of Godwin's Law, ending in actual Godwin's Law)

These are the following

I. Thou Shalt Not Associate Fanfiction with Illegal Material.

II. Thou Shalt Not Completely and Totally Deny A Canon Ship's Canonicity.

III. Thou Shalt Not Horribly Mischaracterize.

IV. Thou Shalt Not Be Contradicting and Biased.

V. Thou Shalt Not Use Pejorative Terms.

VI. Thou Shalt Not Call Thee A Nazi.

The explanations are:

Associating fanfiction with actually illegal material. At best, you'll be laughed at by pro-shippers. At worst, everyone in the fandom will think you're insane if you call a completely innocent Gen fic something akin to actual child pornography.

Saying a completely confirmed canon ship is not canon at all, especially in discussions about canon material. This shows that the person is either too deep into their headcannons to think gay/straight/bi or has straight up not seen any canon material.

Stating an outrageous mischaracterization of a character that it reaches beyond the normal range of character interpretation and reaches into the 'This person did not fucking watch/read/listen to canon' territory.

Contradicting themselves and showing that they have clear bias against or for something and aren't willing to be unbiased. As with any discussion, that more or less means your word can't be trusted and your discourse opponent can easily get a leg up on you with this.

Calling people slurs during discussion, especially unprompted. Call it the 'zero to 100' strategy. Instead of a slow degradation of the conversation, you've essentially killed it with a double barreled shotgun.

And finally, the magnum opus, the one where you will instantly loss all credibility you have...calling someone a Nazi because they don't agree with you. If saying slurs was like shooting the conversation with a double barreled shotgun, this is like dropping an atomic bomb the size of Texas on the poor conversation and obliterating any credibility you had until nothing remains. Godwin's Law Incarnate. Good luck having any sort of credibility after this...
