every year on kiji, there are little festivals involving space travel in a controlled and relatively safe environment. little short expeditions, kind of like going to a park, except the park is a small but beautiful space phenomenon.

zoi, a lonely orphan, always had a fascination with space and the stars, believing it and the angels that live amongst them to be his only friend, his only love. he thought, "wow. that's a beautiful place to die, among the angels."

so he plans his suicide for many months without telling anyone, saving up for one of these trips by himself. he brings his medicine to make everything numb, and go out peacefully among the stars, to be taken away by space where he feels like he belongs.

but someone finds him floating there, unconscious with the tether to the ship very clearly severed. being rushed to the nearest aerial infirmary, he's saved from death. the rest of his story unfolds from here.

in the simplest terms, this drawing is zoi's horrific dream, his warped vision of space, his perfect, beautiful death. what if he succeeded? wasting away, bleeding the stars, never meeting jin, never learning what life had to offer.

this drawing was in some ways, a bit of an outlet for my own self-harming tendencies and struggle to value my own life.

this is not meant to glorify anything. it is an attempt to show the horror and tragedy of what could have happened.
