how to move on

this and other posts are simply markers of time.

loss is no longer my greatest enemy. i have known her intimately. so, this is how to get over someone/move on, 100% fail proof.

realize who they are. stop with the romanticization/idealization! if you must, literally have a sit-down conversation with yourself or say aloud what they are really like, without any of your projection. you know you are doing this right if you cringe a little bit. (e.g. i had to realize my ex-loved was weird, in the most objective way possible, and everyone agreed.)

stop thinking about them. this is hard but 100% possible! i promise!! if you catch yourself thinking about them, gently tell yourself, they are gone from my life now. you don’t need to hold onto these thoughts. be amazed at how they begin to disappear! (e.g. “girl, they was great at the time, but we don’t have to think about them anymore.”)

don’t make every song about them. listen to the sad music you need to but begin to stop gravitating towards them in your mind when you listen to Taylor Swift. yes, this will be hard at first. but it will change everything. (e.g. i had to stop imagining screaming All Too Well 10 Min. Version at them eventually)

of course, there’s more you could do. but if you do just these 3, you’ll move on. time and effort are powerful medicines.

i’ve begun to think that. the large desire to be untouchable that is taking over media by storm has everyone fooled. by untouchable i mean kind of oblivious. ‘be that girl who doesn’t care what anyone thinks but is pretty, healthy, smart, etc. enough to be wanted by everyone.’ ‘level up and everyone will chase you but you only need yourself.’ ‘intimidate people. need no one but yourself.’ and yeah all these things are great, but they’re marketed well because becoming and doing this or that is what will make people like you. it’s like care less so they care more. and because of this, if you struggle with your own confidence, you’ll suffer for it.

unpopular opinion:

being a dark academic does not mean you have to have a sad, tired mind. this may be the appeal of light academia, but you can still wear dark clothes and smile. you can recite poetry and still stick up that motivational quote on your bedroom wall. you can have a good night’s sleep and wake up ready to absorb knowledge like a sponge, rather than staying up thinking because it’s what you should do. nothing against these things, but you needn’t be less happy than you feel! unlock this title imprisoning you! knowledge is stronger when possessed together with happiness!

Anyway unpopular opinion probably but the school system (and general book snobbery) fucks up by trying to force kids to read "classics" before they have the mental and emotional development to appreciate them.

This post is me telling you to consider revisiting that classic book you read in the 7th grade that you hated because the ability to understand a lot of literature gets unlocked later, for reasons a lot to do with emotional maturity
