I’m weird autistic. I need complete and utter silence (a fan is ok in summer), complete and utter darkness (thank Hypnos for sleep masks), my feet HAVE to be warm or I’ll feel nothing but cold, I need to be under a blanket up to my shoulders. Anything below my shoulders I can’t fall asleep. And I have to be in my own bed, I literally stopped having sleepovers as a kid because I couldn’t fall asleep in beds that aren’t mine and I’d come home the next day sleep deprived and grumpy. I’d be a nightmare sleeping partner tbh.
“Hypnos, shrouded in the gloom of his brother Thanatos and dripping with Stygian dew, enfolds the doomed city, and from his relentless horn pours heavy drowse, and marks out the men” - Statius, Thebiad.
Devotional art be upon ye, I may be a Hypnos devotee but he and his twin are a package deal and I don’t have the heart to seperate them. I appreciate Thanatos as well, even if I’m focused on his brother.
I started making a fantasy story series in late primary school (2012 oof). @izroulia if anyone wants to see the progress. And while its main focus is merfolk from diffent realms that correlate to diffent mythologies from around the world, guess who connect 4 out of 5 of those stories together? Yeah. Hypnos. Before I even became a devotee he was in them. MAN WAS JUST LURKING IN THE BACKGROUND OF MY LIFE FOR YEARS IN THE FORM OF A FANTASY BOOK SERIES. And I’m just NOW realising that this connected cinematic universe I’ve created is basically glued together by Hypnos showing up for some character to either give them a boon or straight up kick start the whole plot. Like you’d think since the main characters of each story a merfolk, it’d be a sea god like Poseidon or Aphrodite showing up over and over right? Nope. Hypnos.
And one day I have an idea to put merfolk into the rivers of the underworld and it expands into a story that ties into the first ones I made, except this time Hypnos is a much bigger character since he’s basically the patron god of the Lethe sirens. And it was not long after that I was like “yeah I’m a Hypnos devotee now”. This god, this absolutely sneaky master, managed to wiggle into my life via my creative writing and I’m JUST NOW REALISING IT. HES BEEN HERE FOR GOD DAMN YEARS!!!!
So that makes me start wondering if any other deities have been lurking all these years without me realising, and it hits me- I’m a trans person who grew up on a VINEYARD making WINE and harvesting GRAPES. Is that just a major coincidence or has MF Dionysus been watching me since childhood too? And what about my intense fixation on merfolk? What sea god is that one from? Now obviously correlation doesn’t always equal causation but damn has this all got me thinking.
Anyways you reckon my Lethe siren OCs count as devotional art? They’re all under his rule and live in his river and they sing lullabies for him.
Autistic? I think you mean siren of the river Lethe trapped on the surface that’s why I don’t like bright lights or fit in with the humans up here and can’t walk without tripping over. Hypnos come pick me up the humans are inventing pointless social cues I’m scared.
If the gods were anti trans then why does Hypnos REGULARLY give me dreams about top surgery huh, HUH?!?!
Also once I dreamt I was getting top surgery but it was being live streamed. Like straight up I’m being cut open and there’s like a twitch chat in the corner. No idea what that was about but I’ll take it. It just made me imagine Hypnos standing there in the operating room like “hey what’s up guys welcome back to my channel, today we’re watching one of my devotees get their boobs chopped off”.
Ancient Greece as a whole was mega queer idk why people think the gods originating from said culture and time would be any less queer. Hello the word androgynous literally comes from the Ancient Greek gender androgyne, not entirely a man or woman. Most of the gods have a gender swapped counterpart too.
TLDR: Terfs and transphobes in general fuck off. Hypnos and all the other gods would hate you. Your sleep will forever be plagued with nightmares for your hateful actions.
THIS TEMPLE IS ANTI TERF/RADFEM/GENDER CRITICAL
There is a large TERF issue in hellenism communities, I'm not sure why considering how pro trans hellenism is, but I do want to say that no TERFS are welcome to The Temple of Hypnos. You're telling me Hypnos would support people who deny others their dreams? Hypnos would support terfs who bring harm and stress to trans people like me? Don't make me laugh. You're an insult to all hellenics, may you never rest and may you never dream
Here's a list of Hypnos Devotion Blogs! If you wish to be added, comment or DM me :) Requirements for devotion blog is to be Hypnos-centric or to have Him be a main deity of worship(not just any devotee can get on here for having 1-2 post on Hypnos).
Find an antique heart locket for a good price at a vintage fair? I know what to put inside it.
Also for the Artemis devotees. I also saw this quite big statue of her a few stalls down. Kind of hard to see the moon in her hair from this angle but that’s how I knew it was her. The bow and the moon.
My room is being majorly renovated soon, including my bed now that I’ve found a frame. So the end goal is to move the altar into one of the shelves attached to the bed frame itself. So the altar will be literally IN the bed. For now, it’s just a shelf behind my current bed.
The box is full of melatonin, the cinnamoroll is a night light and the little doll in the tray is a worry doll I’ve had since I was a kid, it’s meant to ward off nightmares. There’s a lot of little twin stars, because they’re very sleepy characters and the whole twins thing kind of reminds me of Hypnos and Thanatos. I want to add a statuette of Hypnos, or potentially make a doll of him to add, but I gotta get my room redone first.
