Don’t change who you are to hang with a friend who is an alcoholic. We have to learn to live in this world again. I #isolated myself when I drank. New post! Been a little slow on posting on the website lately, mostly just due to the pace of life. But, much of it has been because I’m truly starting to delve into the #alcoholicsanonymous program. I’ve been thinking intensively about friends and asking for help. I hate to ask for help. It’s an often fatal flaw I possess. My quest to #humble myself has been an often torturous one, but I realize that had I not asked for help, I probably wouldn’t have made the decision to #soberup. The 12th step outlines that you are to share and help other alcoholics in need. I like this quote a lot. I’m still unpacking it. Speak to everyone in the same manner, with no condescension. All of us are equal and deserve the same respect, for the most part. But, speak in an appropriate way for the person or situation. Be aware of your surroundings and stature. Realize, as well, that the tone you use often directly results an equal response. If you come into a situation with a hot head and sharp tongue, odds are you will get that served back with you. #staysafe with #hurricaneflorence! Be prepared if you’re staying, get out if you’re evacuating. One thing I am super grateful for is being sober during times like these. My situational awareness of hyper focused. Preparedness mode is on point. WNC will not get the brunt of it I don’t think, but there is no such thing as being “too prepared”. #alcoholism is a #disease. I used to not really believe that. I thought a drinking problem was based on choices. There is something different about how alcoholics and addicts are wired that we can’t moderate, process, control substances like others can. But there is #hope. You can recover from your sickness.
