I think one of my biggest problems with the Fantastic Four movie is also the one I've seen no one criticize: the replacement of Alicia Masters, a blind character, with an able bodied character called Rachel Rozman, who takes her role as The Thing/Ben Grimm's love interest.

Because I'd never even heard of Rachel before this movie, I checked to see if she was at least a previous obscure love interest Ben had in the comics who I somehow hadn't heard of, but no. She is a completely fabricated OC for this movie. She did not exist before. In a movie that is obsessed with referencing 60s Fantastic Four comics and characters, they have absolutely no time for the FF's first supporting cast member, who has been Ben's love interest (and now wife) for 60 years. They just erased one of the few prominent, actually meaningfully disabled characters in comics for the love of the game, and then erased or assigned her storylines to other characters.

In the comics, Alicia was introduced only a year after the team debuted when she's rescued by the FF (and then saves them in turn) from her abusive, supervillain step father called the Puppet Master and becomes an instant friend to the team. Alicia plays a part in Ben's self acceptance journey as he believes himself to be an unloveable monster, but Alicia doesn't and reassures him through his self loathing and she is the one who convinces the Silver Surfer to see the value in humanity and turn against Galactus during the original Galactus storyline in FF #48-50.

But in the movie, the FF have been around for years without her being introduced. Ben has already reached self acceptance without Alicia being a part of that story, and her father is explicitly referenced as already being in the FF's rogues gallery, but Alicia isn't mentioned at all despite them meeting her when they met the Puppet Master in the comics. She should be there, she should already be part of the FF's life, but she's not. So her role as Ben's love interest is reassigned to an abled woman (who even looks like her) and her role in the Galactus saga as the catalyst for the Silver Surfer's rediscovered conscious is instead reassigned to Johnny and the Surfer is made female so she can be his heterosexual, shoehorned-in love interest.
