AHHHH thank you😊😊😊
wrong place, wrong time, right person
prompt: paul imprints on the clearwaters' friend, unfortunately she's not the biggest fan of the pack's alpha or his imprint
pairing: paul x reader
wc: 2.2k
You follow Seth through the house a little annoyed you have to be here after vowing to never step foot in it after what Sam and Emily did to Leah. On principle and loyalty to your friend who had her heart broken by her cousin and ex-fiance you never wanted to see either of them ever again, let alone be in their house. You wonder how Leah stands it, being here and still socializing with them when you know it still bothers her. You still can’t believe she was in their wedding, that viper asking her to be her maid of honor. You still remember being in Leah’s room while she found out they’d been sneaking around together after Sam suddenly broke things off with her. Your friend was never the same after that.
The voices you heard when stepping through their front door grow louder as you near the kitchen, a shirtless man stands in the doorway leaning against the doorframe. Seth bumps shoulders with him as he passes by, completely comfortable around these people. You wonder how he’s okay with all of this as well. Unfurrowing your brow, you follow him through the door hoping this doesn’t take long.
“This is Y/N, mine and Leah’s friend from Forks.” Seth gestures to you and you give a tight smile and small wave. There are a few more boys loitering around the room, mainly at the dining area where Leah is sitting looking like she’d rather be anywhere else.
“Hey guys. Leah, your bags in my car.” She nods her head and there’s an awkward silence, Sam looking over at Leah as her face pinches and her eyes unfocus like she’s thinking hard about something. You look at the guy she’s sitting next to, not knowing what else to do. He looks back at you, his eyes widening a little and you take it as a ‘well this is awkward’ expression and offer him a small grin in return. You look back over to Leah who looks surprised, turning in her chair to look at the man next to her. Everyone turns to look at him like he’s suddenly a spectacle to them.
“All right Paul!” The guy leaning on the doorframe exclaims excitedly. Seth turns to grin at you to your utter confusion.
“She’s not going to believe any of you.” Leah mutters and turns back to look at you, a look on her face you can't quite place.
“Believe what?” You say slowly, suspiciously. You have a feeling you’re about to be the butt of a practical joke.
“That we’re wolf shifters. Paul imprinted on you.” Sam says flatly, he knows you don’t like him and that you still resent him for what he did to Leah. He still remembers when you had slammed the door in his face when he came by the Clearwater house one time to speak with Harry and then made him wait out on the porch. In the rain.
You don’t say anything just turning to Leah for confirmation. She nods her head solemnly, confirming what Sam said. You aren’t sure you want to believe that the Quillute legends are true. Wolves? Vampires?
“All of you?” You ask dryly, suddenly aware you are in the middle of the room of supposed wolves. The rumors about Sam’s cult makes a lot more sense now.
“I’m not.” Emily says and you ignore her. It would explain why Seth and Leah are both in this god damned house if Sam and them are wolves. You still feel skeptical about all of this.
“And imprinting?” You ask looking back at the guy you’re guessing is Paul. This is not what you signed up for earlier when Seth said he’d take you to Leah. You thought you’d just be picking her up, you didn’t even want to come inside.
“It’s a bond. The wolf’s spirit is bound to you.” Sam begins to explain seeing the skepticism written on your face. A little help Paul, Sam growls in the mind link. Paul’s just staring at you, open mouth like a fish. It seems to snap him out of his jumbled thoughts.
“You can choose whatever kind of relationship the bond is, it doesn’t have to be romantic. It can be a close friendship. The wolf just wants to protect you and make sure you’re happy and taken care of.” Paul tries to explain earnestly. “I’ll go with whatever you choose.” He watches the wheels turning in your mind as you try and process this.
A calculating gleam in your expression as your eyes drift over to Emily, then Sam, then back to Emily before sliding over to land on Leah. “I see…” The tone of your voice is light and innocent as something ugly crosses your face, your nose wrinkling and brows furrowing as you come to a conclusion Paul suspects is about Sam and Emily’s imprint bond.
Emily turns to busy herself with something at the sink, uncomfortable and a little pink in the face. Sam frowns at you, not liking the direction this is going. No one else in the room says a word, everyone suddenly focused on something other than the tension rapidly mounting and trying not to think too hard in the mind link. Paul doesn’t know what to say, does he defend Sam and Emily since you don’t know what the imprint bond feels like and risk you rejecting him outright for it? He thinks he should probably remove you from the situation before it gets worse. You take a few steps towards him, looking down at him where he’s sitting at the table.
“You got a girlfriend?” Too late, he blinks up at you and shakes his head slowly. “Sweet, I’d hate to homewreck something you’ve already got going on.” You drop yourself down on his lap, turning towards where Leah is sitting leaving him stunned. “So anyways,” You continue like nothing’s happened. Seth’s eyes widen in horror as he continues to focus on picking at his fingernails. He regrets bringing you here, he should’ve known it was a bad idea. Sam’s nostrils flare as the mind link goes crazy with people trying and failing to keep their reactions to themselves. He sees Emily pause and stiffen for a second before continuing rinsing the vegetables she was holding. “Everyone’s just staying for the weekend but Tilly said if we wanted to stay longer her and Jackson don’t care and to just lock up when we leave.”
Paul doesn’t know what to do or where to put his hands. He looks at Jared for help but Jared just smirks at him from the doorway. He knows you were just taking a jab at Emily but does this also mean you’re open to the idea of the imprint bond?
In truth, you don’t know what to believe and deciding to just roll with it for now seems like a good idea. Seth and Leah wouldn’t lie to you like this but it’s still difficult to wrap your head around. You can feel the heat radiating off of Paul as he sits under you, stiff as a board. It would explain why both Leah and Seth were suddenly hot to the touch out of nowhere. It could be worse you guess, Paul’s cute and seems like a nice guy. You can’t wait to interrogate Leah on the drive out of here.
You twist around to look at Paul who stiffens even further under your gaze. “You got a phone?” He nods his head quickly, ignoring Jared’s snort as he accepts your phone to put his number in. He watches over your shoulder as you send him a text with your name and a smiley face before sliding your phone back into your jacket pocket.
“Ready to go Leah?” His throat tightens with a whine he won’t let escape as you rise off his lap. Leah side eyes him as she nods as she stands, ready to follow you out. “Bye Paul.” You sing flirtatiously over your shoulder as you begin moving towards the door. You ruffle Seth’s hair as you pass by him and the man leaning against the doorframe moves out of your way as you pass by him. Paul watches you go bewildered at the events of the last five minutes and upset that you’re leaving. He doesn’t like the idea of you immediately leaving but he knows he can’t expect you to drop everything suddenly. And you’ll be with Leah, so you’ll be safe and he can bug her through the mindlink. It’ll give him time to clean up his house and hound Seth for more information about you.
This was not what you had in mind for how your day would be going at all. Werewolves? Crazy. Someone claiming you’re bonded to them? Crazy. Leah’s got a lot of explaining to do and you have a feeling you’re coming back from this weekend to a completely different life than you had before.
You last about five seconds after the Uley house is gone from your rearview mirror before groaning, “Does this mean I have to be nice to them?” You look long suffering at Leah.
She barks out a laugh, not thinking this is what you’d lead with. “Sam’s the Alpha and everyone loves Sam and Emily. They don’t like me because I’m the bitter ex that can’t get over what happened and now they have to hear all my angry thoughts about it.”
“What the hell? Who wouldn’t be angry about that? Emily swore to you nothing was going on between her and Sam but come to find out weeks later they’d been secretly seeing each other. How can they not see the betrayal in that?” Your hold on the steering wheel tightens so hard the leather creaks under the white knuckle grip you have on it. You hate her so much for what she did to you friend.
“Sam couldn’t help it, he didn’t have a choice. I understand that now. It hurts that I couldn’t be that for him. It should’ve been me, not her. But yeah. Emily had a choice. And she chose to be with him romantically. She chose to give into their bond. She could’ve rejected him after what he did to her but she didn’t. She stayed. That’s what hurts me the most. She chose to hurt me further. She chose to live the life that Sam and I planned together. And now I can’t even get away from them.” Leah shakes her head, miserable that this is how her life turned out. In a year she lost everything but somehow asking for a little compassion or understanding from the people she’s in a pack with is too much to ask.
“God, what a fucking slimy bitch.” You mutter to yourself seething with anger. Leah doesn’t doubt that your rage could rival Paul’s quick temper. She almost feels bad for him, knowing how serious you carry your grudges.
“I’m glad I’ll at least have you there now.” She grins at you, “Paul’s already grilling Seth for information about you.” She laughs glad to be leaving for the weekend with you and not having to deal with that like Seth is.
“How do you know?” You ask a little curious. It’s still crazy to you that the legends are true and that your best friend is a wolf shifter. A lot of things make more sense but it’s still a wild concept that makes you feel a little crazy believing.
“We can hear each other’s thoughts.” Leah says glumly.
“Oh, you meant that literally.” You were a little stunned. That must suck, not being able to have a private thought or opinion without everyone else knowing about it. Leah hums in assertion and closes her eyes. She breathes in deeply and exhales slowly, pushing the pack’s thoughts back into the recesses of her mind.
“Well, imprint bond or not I expect to be woo’ed. He doesn’t get an easy pass just because it’s fate or whatever.” You think for a second and add, “and he has to be nice to you.” Leah laughs again knowing you’ll have Paul wrapped around your finger in no time. She’s happy for you, glad that you’ll have someone love you unconditionally and wholly. Maybe you’ll move to the Rez and she’ll get to see you all the time and life won’t be so glum anymore.
“Oh! I almost forgot! Jackson’s brother’s coming and he’s siinngglllee. And your tyyppee.” You grin at Leah who rolls her eyes. “Oh, don’t be like that. It’ll be a fun weekend even if you don’t get your back blown out.” Leah groans, covering her face with her hands as you laugh at her. She knows you’re right, it will be a fun weekend away from the pack and her responsibilities.
You feel your phone buzz in your pocket wondering if it’s Paul already. Waiting until a stop light to check, a giddy feeling overtakes your body when you see it is. I’ll be ready to woo you when you get back from your trip. Have fun.

nothing ever goes as planned
Prompt: you're dragged into your sisters mess when her stupid exboyfriend tries to kill himself in italy
Pairing: paul x reader x jared
WC: 6.9k
i get bored at work okay
Bzz. Bzz. Bzz.
The vibrations from Bella’s phone cut the quiet tension immediately. Edward and Felix both relax from their fighting stance and look over as if to say ‘Really? Right now?’ The buzzing stops and immediately starts again with a new call. Your name flashes across the screen and a sense of impending doom fills Bella. Bzz. Bzz. Bzz.
“She’s just going to keep calling.” Bella glances nervously between Edward and Aro. Edward sighs knowing this is going to open a whole new can of worms. The vibrations stop momentarily before starting again. Bzz. Bzz. Bzz.
Bella tenses like she’s bracing for impact when she flicks her phone open. “Hey,” she tries to say casually but it comes more across as unsure.
There wasn’t a greeting back, just a light, “Are you busy right now?” Bella knows that tone and the hairs raise on the back of her neck. She’s been caught.
“Uh… Out with… Jake.” Bella stutters out. Stupid, she should’ve said someone you aren't also friends with. She couldn’t’ve said Angela?
“Oh really? Perfect, can you ask him to come back with you tonight? I need him to look at my car.” You’re still using that tone. Bella can see the look on your face, the pinched smile, the anger in your eyes, you leaning against the counter with your arms crossed. Like a cat that cornered a mouse, playing with it before tearing it to shreds.
“Oh… I wasn’t planning on being back tonight.” Bella closes her eyes and waits for the hammer. “Because you’re in Italy right?” There it is. Bella sighs, mildly embarrassed her older sister about to start reaming her and everyone can overhear. Bella wonders how long it took Jacob to rat her out.
“Before you start-” Bella tries to explain herself but you cut her off.
“Do not ‘Before you start’ me, Isabella Marie Swan. You are not the one that woke up with twenty missed calls from Charlie. Have you lost your goddamn mind?” Your voice raises slightly over the phone and Bella knows your control over your temper is slipping.
“I can explain.” She tries again, weaker this time. “Wait. You weren’t home last night?”
“We aren’t discussing me right now. We are discussing the fact that you are pulling the same bullshit you did six months ago, so you better fucking start explaining and have a damn good reason. You don’t even have a passport, Isabella.” Bella didn’t think about that when Alice said she had everything taken care of already.
“Alice ca-” There was a loud exhale from the other line. “-me and said Edward was in trouble.”
“Put him on the phone right now.” You demand, your voice hardening with your rising anger.
Edward winces as he takes the phone from Bella. “Y/N.” He greets casually.
You don’t greet him back. “I swear on your dead mother’s grave if my little sister isn’t returned home without a hair out of place by tomorrow evening, I will tear you apart limb from limb before putting your head on a pike to use as a mailbox. Are we clear?” You growl over the phone.
“Crystal.” His mouth twitches knowing you’re completely serious too.
“Put Alice on the phone.” Edward holds the phone out for Alice to take.
“Y/N.” Alice greets a little nervously. You’re always a wild card for her, something about you causing her visions to go wrong.
You lay into her seeing red. “You ignored Bella for months but as soon as you or your family has a problem you decide you can just waltz back in like nothing happened? Dragging her to another country to help someone that left her in the woods? Did you know she was catatonic for months while you ignored her emails? Do not think I’ve forgotten about the last time she went on a trip with your family and ended up in the hospital either. Unbelievably selfish. Were you thinking at all? And you call yourself her friend? Put my sister back on the phone.”
“Please don’t tell Charlie.” Was the first thing Bella said. She doesn’t know how Alice got her a passport but she has a feeling it was through less than legal means which she can’t explain to her dad, the sheriff. “Don’t tell Charlie?” You scoff, “Isabella, he’s not the one you should be worried about. Get your ass back to Forks before I come drag you back myself.” You hang up not waiting for Bella’s reply. There’s nothing else to say.
Aro hums as Bella stuffs her phone back into her pocket, face red. “Do tell us more about the elder Swan.” She stands up straighter at that, panic spreading like ice through her veins.
“Y/N doesn’t know anything. I haven’t told her anything about vampires.” Bella promises, she hasn’t told you anything about vampires or werewolves. You’re completely in the dark. Safe.
“Ah but you can’t be sure. Edward has expressed many thoughts of frustration not being able to read her. Or you for the matter.” Aro counters lightly, a smug smile stretching across his face. “She does pose a danger to the secrecy of our kind does she not?”
“What if she’s turned too?” Bella tries bargaining for your life desperately. Aro thinks for a moment, weighing the possibilities. If Bella could be a potential shield then it shouldn't be impossible for her family member to have a similar gift. An unattached sister more willing to join their ranks and could possibly entice Bella to follow. Edward frowns at Aro’s train of thought.
“We should take care of the loose ends now before they cause more problems.” Caius hisses from his throne, his hands tightening around the head of the armrests.
“Wait! I’ve seen it. Bella becomes one of us, I’ve seen her transformed in visions.” Alice interjects quickly. She tears her glove from her hand, offering it to Aro desperately. “And what of the elder Swan?” He lets Alice’s hand fall from his own, wondering about all the gifted additions he could have for his coven.
“I only see false visions about her but I’ll change them both myself if I need to.” Alice vows hoping that it would be enough.
“To see the things you have seen before they have even happened? How incredible. You can see lovely Isabella but not her sister? Perhaps she should be examined before being disposed of after all. Alright. Demitri. Return to Forks and collect the elder Swan.” Aro claps his hands and grins excitedly, his mind racing with all the possibilities. Edwards jaw clicks hearing his thoughts but doesn’t comment on them. “It would do well if you inform her of Demitri’s arrival so she can make adequate departure plans. I don’t think I need to remind you to advise her of our secrecy should she need an explanation for leaving. Felix will show you to a room you can rest in until Demitri returns.”
~
Bella’s been pacing back and forth since they entered the room Felix escorted them to. Alice and Edward lounge on the plush velvet couches near some windows covered with thick curtains. Felix stands inside the room next to the door but lacks the rigidness he held in the throne room. He just casually leans against the wall flipping through a book. Bella doesn’t pay enough mind to know if he’s actually reading it or not.
“Bella, it's been twelve hours, I don’t think she’s still that angry.” Alice tries gently to calm the anxiety plaguing Bella. She saw how the phone call goes when Bella decided she’d tell her before Demitri got there. The only problem is all of Alice’s visions unfold and end differently than what she saw if you’re in them. So chances are the phone call goes well, there’s no reason for them to suddenly start being accurate now.
“You don’t know that for sure.” Bella groans, hiding her face in between her hands. “Where do I even start? Surprise, I’m dating a vampire.” She shakes her head and mutters to herself, “I’m never beating the crazy allegations.”
“I’m sure she’ll come around and believe you when Demitri collects her.” Felix adds unhelpfully not bothering to look up from his book. Bella groans again and pulls out her phone. She wished Jasper was here to get her through this confidently.
There were only a few rings before a tired, “Hey.”
“Hi,” Bella says softly, and hesitates, “Are you gonna yell at me again?”
There were a few tired chuckles over the phone. “No, probably not until you get back.”
“I would be surprised if you didn’t.” Bella cracks a smile, “You’ve always been the parent of the family.”
“Someone's gotta. Please tell me you’re on your way home. Charlie’s driving me up a wall. I’m pretty sure he’s putting bars over our windows. Total house arrest. Wouldn’t surprise me if he just moves us into the station’s double cell.” You groan, sounding annoyed just thinking about it. Bella feels bad you’re dealing with the fallout for her but grateful at the same time.
“No, not yet. I… need to tell you some things. It’s going to sound crazy but just hear me out.” Bella swallows and rocks from the balls of her feet back to her heels trying to burn off some of the anxiety building. There’s a few seconds of silence before you respond. “Okay?” You don’t sound impressed and the apprehension thick in your voice.
“EdwardisavampireandsoaretherestoftheCullens.” Bella word vomits at you, not pausing between words. Bella sighs, almost relieved but the pause, this one even longer than the first, from you immediately kills any relief she momentarily felt.
“Thats what the edgelord is calling himself these days?” You finally respond dryly, unimpressed.
“I’m serious.” Bella rolls her eyes, she knew you wouldn’t take this seriously.
There’s a heavy sigh from the other line. “Okay, why are you telling me this?” You sound almost inconvenienced that Bella’s telling you this.
“It’s a long story but Edward thought I was dead and went to the equivalent of the vampire police hoping they would kill him. Alice and I stopped him but they found out I was still alive. Their biggest law is that humans can’t know about vampires. They learned about you from Edward’s thoughts and are suspicious about you knowing too. They sent someone to bring you here. They wanted to kill you but agreed to offer you the same choice as me. Turn or die.” Bella rushes out, leaving out a lot of details. Mainly the one where she offered to die first and how you barely were spared a choice.
Another long, exasperated sigh blew through the speaker. “Do you understand now why I tried so hard to convince you to leave him alone and not get involved with that god forsaken family?” There was a bite to your words laced with disappointment. Bella feels like she’s just been slapped.
Bella’s jaw drops and Felix raises his eyebrows, not even bothering to pretend to feign interest in the book anymore. Alice and Edward blink in surprise, thinking back to all their interactions with you looking for any tell that you would’ve known. “Wait, you knew this whole time?” She’s shocked and a little angry.
“Bella, I've lived in Forks my entire life. Of course I knew.” Bella can feel you rolling over the phone at her. Your patronizing tone doesn’t even register over the building betrayal Bella feels.
“You never said anything.” Bella accuses, scowling. Why didn’t you say something to her?
“Neither did you. Wasn’t any of our business in the first place.” She can hear you shrug over the phone and yeah, your argument is fair. If Bella would’ve minded her own business she wouldn’t be in this mess or in a mess with Victoria. Curiosity does indeed kill the cat.
“I’m sorry.” She sighs, realizing the weight of the mess she’s landed them in. She didn’t want to drag her sister into this.
“So am I. I’m not choosing to turn into one of them.” You tell her flatly and Bella’s jaw drops again.
Felix’s eyebrows raise again, “What? Why not?” Bella asks frantically. How could you not want it?
“Bella, you've seen who I hang around with. I’ll lose my entire social circle. I’ll have to leave Forks and never see Charlie or my friends again. Becoming a vampire will literally ruin my life.” You scoff and Bella knows you're shaking your head. She can picture the deep frown on your face and she hears you exhale loudly through your nose.
Bella’s head rears back like she’s been slapped and stares at her phone for a few seconds. “Wait, you know about… the Rez?” Bella asks vaguely, if you knew about the Cullens there’s no way you didn’t know about the pack. The betrayal is back in full force, you never said anything when Jacob phased and started ignoring Bella. You just kept telling her to give him time to come around and that he’s going through a confusing time. Oh my god, it hits Bella all at once. Deep down, she knows that there’s not much more you could’ve realistically said. ‘Sorry, your new best friend found out he’s historically enemies with your ex-boyfriend and found out it was their presence in the area that caused him to phase in the first place?’ Yeah that would’ve gone over great, Bella thinks.
You sigh, again, “Yes Bella. That’s part of the reason we are getting bars on our windows.” Your patronizing tone is back like you’re talking to a fifth grader and have been waiting for her to catch up.
“What did you do?” Bella asks suspiciously. She wonders what you could’ve done that is near the scale Bella’s at.
“Heh. About that.” Bella caught the tonal shift and can picture the sly grin on your face. You sound absolutely gleeful.
“Oh my god what did you do?” Bella’s actually a little concerned now. What could you have done that was so bad?
“More like who.” Bella can almost see your shit eating smile clearly as her brain short circuits.
Okay, Bella stands corrected, it was worse than she imagined. “What?” She shrieks, Edward and Alice shake their heads. Of course both Swan sisters are danger magnets.
You sigh deeply and Bella can hear your hair rustling the speaker. “Someone told Charlie I’m sleeping with Jared.” You sound more annoyed than angry and Bella’s jaw drops. She can’t keep up with all the bombs you’ve dropped in this conversation.
“You’re sleeping with Jared?” She asks almost disbelievingly. Jared?!
“And Paul.” You add casually still smirking at Bella hundreds of thousands of miles away. Bella’s eyes almost bug out of her head, her mouth opening and closing like a fish.
She temporarily overcomes her shock, the gates opening to her flood of questions. “And Paul?! For how long? Do they know? Wait, of course they both know. And they’re fine with it?” Bella is rapidly blinking trying to make sense of this. Her mind is absolutely reeling.
“Well duh. They take me to Paris all the fucking time.” You laugh at Bella over the phone like that was the stupidest question you’ve ever heard.
The lights are completely off in Bella’s brain. “Oh. My. God.” Her brain is broken. Obliterated. Her sister. Aware. Vampires. Sleeping with not one but two wolves.
“Yeah someone told Charlie and he freaked out. My bets on Billy or Harry. Fuckin’ snakes. I had to explain what friends with benefits are. It was terrible.” You just continue to take your sledgehammer to Bella’s already mush brain.
“Oh my god.” Bella knew her sister had her own life but she never even fathomed this. How long has this been going on?
“He went through an entire six pack before noon. Harry came and took him out fishing.” You were cackling at her now. Cackling. Bella’s mind is still spinning.
“Are you their…” She starts, wondering how this all works.
“No.” You cut her off quickly, your jovial tone gone and replaced with something hard and guarded. “We agreed that whenever it happened for them we would stop, no hard feelings. I knew before we started screwing around I never had an actual chance.”
Bella swallows thickly, “That’s…” She doesn’t know what to say.
“Pathetic, I know.” You finish for her, the hard tone drier than before. The vampires in the room all look down and away from watching Bella, uncomfortable at the sudden change in the conversation’s direction.
Hope fills Bella’s chest, maybe you could still be convinced. “If you’re going to lose them eventually then why won’t you become a vampire?”
You sigh, “It’s not just them. I’ll be voluntarily excommunicating myself from everyone.” Bella knows you’re good friends with the older pack members. You even hang out at the Clearwater’s with Charlie on Sunday’s during baseball season.
Bella knows she’s fighting a losing battle. “You still have time to think about it. Demitri should be getting there sometime tomorrow morning.”
“Great. Just enough time to drive my car off the La Push cliffs.” You say dryly and Bella rolls her eyes.
She replies flatly, “That’s not funny.”
You sigh for what feels like the thousandth time. “Wasn’t trying to be. Talk to you later Bells. I’ve… got a lot to think about.” The line goes dead as Bella stands still, mind still reeling from the unexpected turns the phone call took.
~
You hang up the phone feeling empty. Fucking Cullens. Of course they dragged Bella into another mess. When Jared shook you awake this morning and told you Jacob said Bella left with Alice you didn’t want to believe it. Especially when he followed that up with their intended destination. And now you’ve been dragged into this mess. The mess you’ve tried your damnedest to avoid getting involved in.
Fuck you need a cigarette. You don’t even care if Charlie comes home and catches you, there’s not much more you could really do to disappoint him today. You wonder how you’re going to tell Paul and Jared. Logically you know they’ll do everything they can to protect you but you also don’t want them to get on the Vultori’s radar either, especially since they were responsible for wolves being hunted to near extinction. They’d probably wait to ambush him which in the long run probably would end poorly for Bella.
hey, i think we need to talk. You press send in your group chat with Paul and Jared before heading upstairs to get your hidden carton of cigarettes. You leave your phone on the charger wanting to decompress for a moment before having that conversation. You always thought it would be one of them that would have to break it off first, not you.  Just as you’re leaving your room you hear your phone start to buzz but you ignore it thinking it’s one of the boys. You’ll call back in five after your smoke.
~
Alice freezes on the spot, a vision clouding over her consciousness. She sees you smoking a cigarette you think no one knows about by your back door. One moment you're standing alone and the next, Victoria is standing in front of you, startling a jump out of you. She watches as Victoria snaps your neck. Your body slumps down to the wet ground like a sack of potatoes. Victoria peers down at you before stepping over you to wait in the dark house for Charlie and Bella to return.
Alice gasps out of her vision, locking eyes with Edward already dialing Carlisle’s number. “What is it? What did you see?” Bella asks frantically, Edward had just shaken his head at her mid vision as he pulled his phone out.
“Victoria. Something’s about to happen. I just saw her kill Y/N before going inside to wait for you and Charlie. She’s planning on killing you one by one. Call Y/N right now, she needs the guys over there now.” Bella’s never dialed your number so fast in her entire life.
“She’s not answering.” Bella says frantically, pressing the call button again. Edward is already on the phone with Carlisle telling him to call Sam immediately. Bella starts to hyperventilate when the phone goes to voicemail again. She dials Jake’s home phone, praying Billy answers.
“Didn’t you say your visions of her are always false? So there’s a good chance she doesn’t immediately snap your sister’s neck.” Felix adds unhelpfully again, sending Bella into a further panic. No scenario with her sister and Victoria is good.
“Black residence.” She hears Jacob’s deep voice over the line. Relief floods Bella’s veins, the hope of saving her sister renewed.
“Jake! You need to get to my house right now. Y/N’s in danger. Victoria is going to kill her.” Bella almost screams over the phone. She hears Jacob curse before the phone thuds, presumably against the wall, and Bella hears a door in the distance slam open. She faintly hears the fabric tearing off of Jacob’s body as he shifts and then silence. She hangs up and tries your phone again. Please please please, Bella thinks, please be okay.
~
The cigarette makes your head tingle with every drag you take. This was all so fucked up. You should’ve threatened the Cullens from the start to leave you sister alone. Maybe sent her off to Jacksonville. Or boarding school. Now you are losing everything and everyone you care about, no matter what you choose. Either you die and leave everyone behind heartbroken with closure or you disappear and watch grief slowly eat them alive. There’s no good outcome but at least Charlie will have peace of mind. Maybe you can ask the vampire coming to make it look like an accident. Maybe you should just do it yourself before he gets here.
You think of Jared and Paul wondering how they would react. Surely they’d try to hero you out of it but for how long? How long until their imprints come along and their priorities change? How long can you stay hiding on the Rez before you're found out? You think of the betrayal they’ll feel when they find out your accident wasn’t an accident. You wonder if they’ll respect your choice to die by your own hand rather than someone else’s. There’s a sharp turn in the road on the way to the Cullens house, no cell reception, not frequently used since they left. It would make sense if you’re going out there to look for Bella. You’ll be found eventually and Charlie can have his closure.
A twig snaps in the distance, catching your attention and bringing you out of your depressing thoughts. There’s a red headed woman standing at the treeline looking at you and you instantly know it’s the same redhead the boys have been hunting. You raise your hand and wave at her, wondering just how much trouble you’re in. The craziest part is you aren’t afraid. Your clock is already ticking near its end so what’s a few hours? You watch her approach as you blow out your final drag and crush the cigarette butt out with the toe of your shoe.
“Bella’s not here.” You state simply when she’s in front of you. Her eyes are black pits as she stares back at you.
Her lips quirk into a small grin. “How did you know I’m looking for Bella?” “Well, I don’t know you and I’m really hoping you weren't here for Charlie.” You laugh, wrinkling your nose at the thought of Charlie dating someone so young.
“Victoria, nice to meet you. Tell Bella I said ‘hello’ when you see her?” She doesn’t let you even open your mouth to respond before she has your head tilted back and fangs lodged in your throat. Damn, you think, I really wanted to not be someone’s dinner. Your vision goes black as the burning in your veins starts to spread from where she’s still biting you.
~
Demitri has never been so confused in all his years as a vampire. This girl’s scent trail crosses itself, zigzagging all over the place, circling back to the same spots over and over again. There’s no clear trail for him to follow. Even her tenor leads him all over the place. It’s like she disappears to a new spot every time he gets to the last spot it was in.
He’s standing in the middle of a small stream trying to choose which scent path to follow when he hears multiple sets of feet approaching and the overwhelming smell of wet dog invades his senses. He stays in place, hands in his pockets as he tries to make out how many people are rapidly moving through the forest.
It’s not people that emerge from the trees but rather large wolves, teeth bared ready to lunge. He didn’t think there were wolves left, let alone so close to vampire territory. Well, it is the Cullens so their coexistence with their natural enemies doesn’t seem too surprising.
Demitri raises his hands in a peaceful gesture. “I’m not here to cause any trouble. I’m here looking for Y/N Swan for her sister. I can’t tell which scent of hers is fresh and I apologize if I wandered somewhere I shouldn’t be. I can call Bella if you’d like.”
One of the wolves in front nodded his head but the others remained ready to attack. They all watched him  pull out his cell phone and click a few times before the dial tone filled the silence. “Felix, can you bring me to Isabella please.” There’s a grunt, ‘it’s for you’ and some rustling before a shaky ‘did you find her?’ that has all the wolves relaxing slightly.
“Isabella. It seems I have run into your lupine friends.  No, I haven't found her. Her blood was in your home and the scent of another vampire was present.” Was Victoria still there?
“No, the vampire was in Seattle without your sister.” She’s still missing? Did Victoria say anything?
“I disposed of her, she said she turned and left Y/N so she would kill you and Charlie.” You’ll be able to find her right? Before she wakes up?
“Yes, I will find her before she wakes up.” Thank you Demitri. He hangs the phone up when Bella starts sniffling. “I smelled you at the Swan’s residence. Do you know where Y/N is?” Demitri watches one of the wolves convulse before starting to shrink. The hair recedes into his body and bones pop and shift into a more humanoid form. The muscular guy stands stark naked, his joints clicking and popping as he shakes his limbs out.
“Yes. We found Y/N shortly after the red haired vampire bit her. She was chased off the cliffs and into the water while the others moved Y/N.” The man vaguely replied, trying to not give away too much information much to Demitri’s irritation.
“Look, she can’t stay here with no guidance after waking up. She needs to be with vampires who can guide her through the newborn phase or be put out of her misery before she wakes. Whatever decision you make, I’ll leave peacefully with or without her. I have no desire to linger here longer than necessary.”
There was a long silence and the man looked away, deep in thought. “Bella said the Cullens are returning before she left. Can she stay with them?” Of course the Cullens are returning, Demitri refrains from rolling his eyes.
“If they allow it, though, I doubt Carlisle would cast her away. When did you find her?” He really hopes she’s not about to wake up alone, confused and thirsty.
“Yesterday afternoon. She’s in the Cullens’ house. We moved her after we found her. Figured it was far away enough to be safe.” Demitri raises his eyebrows, so she's around halfway through her transformation already.
“Don’t look so surprised. She’s not a wolf but she’s still pack. She’s our friend. Just because she’s turning into a leech doesn’t mean we are going to abandon her when she’s vulnerable. We can’t hold something against her that wasn't her fault.” The wolfman scowls at Demitri offendedly.
“I admire your sense of kinship. That kind of loyalty is hard to come by these days. She’s lucky to have you all.” He shrugs his shoulders nonchalantly. “I do believe I know the way to the Cullens’ residence. Is there anyone there with her?”
“Yes, some of our packmates are there with her. They know you’re coming.” He eyes Demitri for a moment before turning and walking back into the forest. The wolves all back up into the treeline and Demitri backs up out of the creek as well, distancing himself from where they disappeared to.
~
Just as the wolf shifter has said, Demetri hears the two wolves' heart beats as he approaches the Cullen house and some music playing softly somewhere inside the house. They are waiting for him on the porch when he steps through the trees. They look similar to the man he spoke with and are in matching cut off jean shorts. They don’t look overly thrilled to see him and Demetri raises his hands hoping to keep things peaceful. He doesn’t care about whatever issues there are between them and the Cullens.
“They said you killed the red head.” The shorter of the two says eyeing Demetri.
“Yes, it’s against vampiric law to abandon a transitioning vampire you’ve sired.” Demetri wonders what Bella did to piss off Victoria so much that her sister was collateral damage. “May I see your friend?”
The two wolves eyed him for a moment, before curtly nodding. “We’ve been trying to keep her comfortable.” The taller one led the way through the house while the shorter one stayed on the porch, actively scanning the treeline for any threat that may wander too close to the abandoned house.
The girl was laid out on a makeshift pallet in the living area in a nest of pillows and blankets, the rest of the room empty except a cell phone playing the music Demetri heard softly. The two wolves have taken great care into the comfort of the transitioning girl and Demetri is again taken back by the level of kinship the wolves have for this human. He wonders which one she’s mated to. He crouches down next to her, careful not to disturb the nest around her as he examines the bite mark on her neck. It’s mostly healed but not yet scarred over so it tracks with the timeline of them finding her and being about mid transformation. The wolves must’ve changed her out of her bloody clothes, the zip up she’s wearing is clean and only faintly smells of the wolves guarding her.
“Y/N,” Demetri says softly, “you’re almost done. Just a little bit longer and you’ll be done. Your sister is safe, your father is safe. You don’t need to fight it.”
“Wait, she can actually hear everything still?” Demetri glances over his shoulder and one of the shifters is red in the face. Demetri looks at the phone and then back to the man, cocking his head in a silent question. “We didn’t know if she could or not, the Cullens never called us back. We didn’t want her to suffer in silence if she could still hear.”
Demetri’s mouth twitched in amusement, “Every transformation is different, some are more lucid than others. We believe it depends on the damage inflicted before they are bit but it’s hard to know for sure.” The man nods, flushing a deeper red. Demetri rises from his crouched position and heads back towards the entrance where the other wolf was keeping guard. He tilts his head back towards the house when the man eyes him suspiciously. Demetri leans against the pillar supporting the porch roof and the man nods curtly before heading back in to be with the girl and other shifter.
Demetri hears them whispering inside about her being able to hear them as he fishes his phone out. He sends a text to Felix asking him to tell Isabella that he found her sister and that she’s mid transformation. He takes a deep breath and sighs before dialing the reception phone.
“Gianna, I need to speak with Aro.” He waits while she scuttles to the throne room with the cell phone.
“Demetri, I did not expect a call from you. Have you found the elder Swan?” Aro inquires.
“Yes, I found her. A nomad with a grudge against the Cullens got to her before I made it to Forks.”
“Ah yes, Felix informed us earlier of the vision Alice had. How does she fair?” Demetri pinches his lips, annoyed they didn’t inform him before.
“I’d say she has maybe a day before she wakes. I’d suggest letting her stay and adapt before she visits.” Aro hums in response and while Demetri is annoyed he came out here for nothing it does beat being stuck on guard duty in the castle.
“Ah, yes, a newborn in Volterra could be a dangerous situation. Very well. Remain there until the Cullens return and instruct them to bring her by when she has a handle on her bloodlust. We would still like to formally meet her.” Aro doesn’t wait for a response before the line goes dead. Demetri sighs deeply and doesn’t let himself think about the annoyance he’s feeling.
~
Y/N must’ve been farther along than originally thought because the Cullens had not arrived before she woke leaving Demetri and the two wolves to help her. The three of them had been playing cards on the other side of the room not noticing her red eyes opening. She laid there for a moment, recalling what had happened before she fell into the fiery pit of darkness and what she had heard while in it. Victoria had bit her and now she's a vampire. Paul and Jared stayed with her while she was turning. Bella and Charlie are safe. She doesn’t know who the other man that came is but he was encouraging.
She slowly sits up, the fabric rustling beneath her but she could hear them sliding against each other clearly. All three heads snap towards her direction, the card game forgotten. Demetri places himself between her and the boys unsure if she’ll attack in her uncontrolled bloodlust.
“Y/N?” Paul asks hopefully, taking a small step towards her.
She cocks her head, her eyes unfocused as she watches the dust swirl around them in the air.. “Well who else would it be?” She snorts, snapping back into attention with a roll of her eyes and rising from her sitting position, off put that the normal pops of her joints are missing. Paul sucks in a breath when she meets his eyes, his jaw slack. She looks at Jared in confusion and hears his heart skip a beat, the same look on his face as Paul’s.
“Jesus Christ, I can’t look that different now. Is it the eyes? Why are you both looking at me like that?” She looks between the two of them, confused and a little self conscious. She crosses her arms over her chest starting to feel overwhelmed and the burning sensation in her throat becoming unbearable.
“They must be enthralled by your beauty. My name is Demetri. We need to quell your thirst before the bloodlust overtakes you.” He turns to look at Paul and Jared, “It might be better if you stayed here, we shouldn’t be long.”
This seems to snap them out of the stupor they were stuck in, both of them immediately start protesting. Demetri holds a hand up to stop them, “I understand your desire to protect your friend but it’s for your safety you don’t accompany us. The bloodlust makes it hard to stop once started, especially for newborns. We will stick to the forest east of here to not impede your territory again.”
“Will you still be here when I get back?” She asks nervously, afraid this is the last time her friends can stand to see her now she’s a vampire.
“Of course we will.” Paul says immediately, stepping forward wanting to hug her but thinking better of it. He tries to ignore the sad smile she gives them, hoping she didn’t take him not hugging her the wrong way. They watch her and Demetri disappear into the trees wanting desperately to not be apart from her.
~
They returned a few hours later, Y/N covered in blood and with a dejected look on her face. Demetri seemed jovial and in good spirits still. He had received word from Felix that the Cullens and the human Swan had finally left Italy which means the other Cullens should be returning soon to wait for them and he can finally leave.
Paul and Jared stood up in an instant, offering fresh clothes they somehow acquired in their absence. Demetri walked past them into the house, letting them have their long anticipated conversation. From what he gathered during their hunt Y/N was their lover before she was turned. She’s afraid they’ll reject her now that she’s a vampire even though they loved her as a human.
Jared and Paul wait until you’re dressed again to step forward and envelop you in a tight hug. They rest their heads on your shoulders, squeezing you tight, their relief of not losing you overwhelming.
“We were so worried when we heard Jake say you were in danger.” Jared murmured against the ice cold skin of your neck, finding it doesn’t bother him like he was afraid it would. “We were already on our way after getting your text.”
“And then when we found you…” Paul trails off not being able to finish his thought and just squeezes you tighter, rubbing his face into the junction of your neck and shoulder. He doesn’t want to remember the worry he felt that you were going to break things off with them and then the despair of knowing you were in danger. The anguish seeing you on the ground and how they could smell your blood. How he could only chase Victoria so far until the rest of the pack took over so he could get back to you and Jared. The mixed horror and relief he felt when they realized you were transforming into their sworn enemy and the shame of being too late to save you.
“Thank you for taking care of me.” You whisper, your hands snaking around their torsos as best as you can with your arms still constricted by theirs.
“We wouldn’t leave our girl like that.” Paul didn’t stop rubbing his face against you like a pleased cat.
“You aren’t disgusted I’m a vampire now?” You ask in a small voice, the anxiety eating at you increasing when you hear their hearts thud louder.
“We meant what we said while you were transforming. We love you and we don’t want to lose you, even if that means you turn into a le- vampire.” Paul says fiercely, squeezing you again. Jared pulls his head off your shoulder and gives you a kiss on the top of your head and smiles down at you.
“I didn’t think it was possible for you to get more beautiful.” Jared grins, lightly tugging on a loose strand of your hair playfully.
“I don’t stink now do I?” You cringe, remembering them complain incessantly about how much they thought the Cullens stunk. They don’t smell bad to you, like the forest on a warm day.
“No, you smell pretty much the same. Maybe a little sweeter like when you’re ovul- ow.” Paul rubs the back of his head where Jared slapped him. “What? It’s the truth.”
“Dude.” Jared gives him an unimpressed look. Paul just goes back to nosing your neck and you can feel the grin on his lips.
“I love you guys too, so much. I was so worried you wouldn’t want me as a vampire.” Your lip wobbles as you look up at Jared, his brown eyes full of adoration. You hear their hearts skip a beat and feel Paul’s arm tighten around you again, pressing himself against your back.
“Wanna know a secret?” Paul whispers in your ear, planting kisses along your neck while they wait for your answer.
Jared grins down at you as you nod and you hear their heartbeats quicken. “When you woke up we imprinted on you.” He smiles tucking the stand of hair he’d been playing with earlier behind your ear. His smile widens when your face lights up with surprised happiness.
All of your worries disappear. The ones about them finding their imprint and leaving you, the ones about becoming a vampire and losing them, all of them. Your boys are still your boys. You slump into Jared’s chest holding him and Paul closer to you, elated this has all somehow worked out.

Nesta (parody)
Prompt: Before leaving Velaris you drunkenly sing a diss towards your former lovers ‘mate’
Pairing: Cassian x summercourt!reader
WC: 1.7k
authors note: this song had been plaguing me for weeks. aye yo beeennnnnnyyy
You could pinpoint the moment your life started turning to shit. Everything had come crashing down when Rhys got the inner circle involved with the Archeron sisters. You first noticed it when the meeting with the Queens was held at the Archeron estate across the Wall. From the moment he laid eyes on her his whole body tensed and he only looked away from her briefly the entire meeting. His words were heated as he argued with her but still promised to take care of them during the war. He brushed it off when you brought it up later but you noticed the small wedge forming in your relationship. His walls were always up and keeping you out. Then, when the sisters were dragged into the cauldron he stirred when Nesta was screaming. Another cord snapped between the two of you because he had stayed fully unconscious when you were screaming minutes before.
Then you find out he’d been visiting the Archeron estate. You don’t exactly know what went on between the two but there was a tension. Cassian refused to talk to you about it. It all came to head when he was healed enough to visit Nesta and Elaine at the House of Wind. He told you in complete certainty that he thought Nesta was his mate, not you, and that it was Cauldron ordained. That there must have been some mix up between the two of you. That it was Nesta and not you.
After that it was like you couldn’t escape them. You saw them everywhere. In the training yard. At Rita’s. In the House of Wind. At the River House. You couldn’t stand it. You also couldn’t stand the pitying looks from everyone when they ran into you. You knew you couldn’t hide out at a friend's apartment in the city forever. There was no way you were staying in Velaris after the utter betrayal you felt. You were past tears at this point, more angry and confused because what the actual fuck? So, you planned to leave for your homeland where you knew your cousin would welcome you with open arms.
Which brings you to now. Sitting in Rita’s one last time with your friends not in the inner circle. It’s single’s night which means the inner circle will not be showing up and it’s safe for you to be here without running into them. It’s safe to say you’re drunk. Like extremely drunk. They bring a stage out for people to do karaoke, something new the owners are trying out to keep things exciting. You’re having a good time with your friends, dancing and laughing while people sing their songs. Your friends all take a turn, downing a drink before and after their songs.
You should’ve seen it coming when they put a fresh drink in your hand and push you up on stage. The problem is you don’t have a song to sing because all the songs you would sing have already been sung. So free styling it is. You’re never coming back here again so what is there to really lose? You down your drink and hold the voice amplifier up to your mouth, grinning ear to ear.
Ayo Nesta, (ppft)
Believe me,
If I was with Cassian
I would still be treatin' him
Better than you.
Better than you.
Nesta, I love summer (oh)
But if I was with Cassian
I would still be treatin' him
Better than you.
Better than you.
Nesta Nesta Archeron,
Saw you in Velaris,
Saw you in the training yard,
Think we can all move on.
Nesta Nesta Archeron,
Seein' all your nasty glares,
Kinda hurts me downlow.
Kinda hurts me downlow (Yeah).
Nesta, you gotta believe me (pfft)
But if I was with Cassian,
I would still be treatin' him
BĐľtter than you.
Better than you.
Nesta, oh I love summer
But if I was with Cassian
I would still be treatin' him
Better than you.
Better than you (Yeah).
There’s a few stunned faces in the crowd, shocked at your audacity. A few jaws dropped in an amused way like they can’t believe they just witnessed that. You laugh in the voice amplifier and hand it to the next person waiting before rejoining your friends and accepting your next drink and downing it like the others did when they came off the stage. What you don’t spot is a familiar blond head on the other side of the bar as your friends lead you towards the door deciding that maybe it’s time to take you home. Except you don’t make it home with them, laughing and dancing away from them in the street before they can catch you you’re already winnowing away to the summer court.
You land in your room in the Summer Court’s palace (a small miracle) and stagger over to your bed. Sinking into the plush comforter you fall into a drunken sleep, blissfully unaware of the things transgressing in Velaris.
~
Apparently in the hours you slept word of your song spread through Velaris like a wildfire. Its catchy and audacious lyrics somehow become a popular joke with the residents. People who saw it performed at Rita’s couldn’t get it out of their heads and couldn’t help but mumble it as they went about their day. Mor avoided the inner circle all day not wanting to be the one to have to tell them about it, or even worse show them her memory of it. She knew she would eventually have to but she was going to hold out as long as physically possible.
It didn’t take long for it to reach the inner circle, Azriel’s shadows bringing him news of a song about Cassian the entire town is singing. He sends them out for more information on it while he goes to find his brothers. They’re in the training yard sparring when he does find them, smiles spreading across their faces as they welcome him.
“Have you heard the song yet?” He asks them, still a little confused at where it came from.
“Care to be more specific?” Rhys asks, tilting his head in amusement. Oh boy.
Azriel rolls his eyes, “The one about Cassian.”
“There’s a song about me?” Cassian perks up, a smug grin plastered across his face. “Of course there is, what’s it about? My good looks? My ferocity on the battlefield?”
Azriel’s shadow dances in his ear, whispering an update on the situation. He blinks in surprise, Rhys and Cassian waiting in anticipation to hear. “It’s… about you and Nesta. It was sung at Rita’s last night apparently.” Both Cassian and Rhys jerk back in surprise, not expecting that.
“Mor was at Rita’s last night, let’s ask her.” Rhys starts striding away, sure he’ll get to the bottom of this. Cassian and Azriel trail a step behind him. Azriel left the part out where it was Y/N singing it but they’ll know soon enough.
Finding Mor was a bit of a challenge but eventually they did find her in the Rainbow district. They all saw the smirks when passerbys saw Cassian, the same tune being hummed after seeing him. It was pretty catchy, the bat boys couldn’t deny it.
“Mor, you were at Rita’s last night? You saw the song performed right?” Mor sighs and nods, refusing to meet Cassian’s eyes. There’s a moment of silence as she shows Rhys before he snorts out a laugh. The shoulder jerks as you’re saying the Nesta Nesta Archeron shouldn’t be as funny as it is. He can see why everyone’s spun up about it. He shows it to Cassian and Azriel, starting to feel a bit bad for Cassian.
Azriel squeezes his eyes shut trying not to laugh, you weren’t being malicious about it but you were definitely way too drunk to stop yourself. His shadows had brought him updates after you left the River House. How you’d cry yourself to sleep at your friend’s apartment every day, the hollowness of your eyes, how you barely ate, how your friend bought a bunch of kitchenware for you to break to get through your frustrations. He knew you’d seen Cassian and Nesta out in Velaris and how it destroyed what little you’d built back up for yourself. He’d also seen you start to heal and come to terms with it all. How you explored the city as if you’d never see it again. He’d told Rhys about it all, the two of them worried for their friend even though their bond with Cassian ran deeper. You still mattered to them.
Cassian’s jaw was hanging in disbelief. He wasn’t sure if he should be upset that you're singing about Nesta like that or impressed you’re basically challenging her for him. Stupid male brain. He feels shame deep in his belly. While he was with Nesta he’d just left you to hurt and heal by yourself. He really can’t blame you for lashing out like this, if he can even call it a lash out. You looked three sheets to the wind, almost too drunk to function. Sweat shone on your body like you’d been tearing up the dance floor like you always do at Rita’s. He could also see how tired you looked. The deep bags under your eyes, the sunken in of your cheeks from the obvious lack of care you’d been taking of yourself.
“I should speak with her shouldn’t I?” Cassian sighs, defeated like he’d just been chastised by Rhys’s mother.
“Gunna be kinda hard. She went back to the Summer Court.” Azriel stuffs his hands in his pockets feeling a little bad for his brother. The one place Cassian can’t follow you to. You’d spent the last hundred years in Velaris away from your family, only seeing them a few weeks at a time alone because of Cassian’s ban.
Cassian deflates further not knowing what to do or how to make things right. He still loves you, how could he not after so long together and the mating bond with Nesta is there drawing him to her. Worst of all the Cauldron damned song is still bouncing around his head.

when in rome
i didn't have anywhere else to post this so here
Prompt: Going to Italy to save your sister’s exboyfriend is not how you wanted to spend your weekend.
Pairing: Reader x Felix
WC: 2,818
“Bella, you and Alice run ahead to find Edward. I’ll ditch the car and catch up with you guys.” You urge your half sister as the car comes to a complete stop around all the tourists heading to the square. Bella doesn’t need to be told twice, leaping out of the car and taking off running.
Alice eyes you in the mirror suspiciously. “Oh please, like I want Bella going into a vampire den alone. I’ll catch up.” Alice fully turns around in her seat, shock written all over her face. “You guys are literally terrible at being inconspicuous. I figured it out before Bella even moved to Forks.” You roll your eyes and throw your hands up.
“If we are already inside by the time you catch up, stay in the square. They don’t need to know about you.” Alice already regrets bringing you, wishing you’d gotten back to the Swan house ten minutes later than you did. But that stupid mongrel begged you to go with them to watch over Bella and Bella stupidly agreed with him. You’re a wild card to her, never showing up in her visions so she never knows what’s actually going to happen when  you’re involved. Another reason why she wishes you didn’t come but Bella wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Easy enough. Can I have your wallet?” You ask and Alice throws her head back, letting out a laugh. “What? If I don’t make it in time I can get us Italian accessories. Think of the leather Alice.” Alice grins at you, handing over her wallet before climbing out of the car.
You jump over the seat into the driver's seat of the convertible. “I knew I liked you. I’m a size 0 if you find anything good.” Alice says knowing you won’t have time to catch up with them until later since noon is now only a few minutes away. It’s better this way anyways. She leaves you in the car surrounded by the sea of people to chase down your sister.
You finally manage to pull the convertible into an alleyway and make your way down the path with the other festival goers. You don’t see your sister or Alice at the entrance of the clock tower so you wander down a side street full of small shops and bistros. There’s a spare red cloak thrown over a railing and you look around for anyone it could belong to before snatching it up as you walk by it. Throwing it over your shoulders, you wander into a boutique full of different accessories. There’s a pretty scarf like the one Alice was wearing and you decide you need one too. It’s not like Carlilse can’t afford it so you don’t really feel bad. There’s some matching gloves on the table below the scarf rack and you decide that those would be lovely as well. Maybe coming to Italy wasn’t entirely bad. You grab a handbag that was in the same cream background as Alice’s scarf for her, thinking it would look nice with her outfit. You swipe Carlisle’s card, giddy the transaction went through successfully.
Your next stop was the bistro down the street for a snack until Alice calls you telling you they are done. The two elderly Italian women sitting next to you are so cute gossiping over their espresso and biscotti. The waiter brings you the bottle of wine you ordered  and tells you in his sexy accent that your bruschetta will be out shortly. Yeah, you think, maybe you do like Italy. Cute boys and you’re able to legally drink? Total score. You feel bad your sister is somewhere in the vampire police den but Alice wouldn’t have let her out of the car if things didn’t work out right? Everythings going to be fine, you tell yourself. And what are you supposed to do? Traipse into a vampire den saying you're Bella’s sister and get them in more trouble?
You pull your book from the tote bag you had barely enough time to grab before Bella was dragging you out the door back in Forks. All that’s in there is twenty bucks, your book, your sweater, Alice’s new purse and the granola bar the airline gave you. You sip your wine as you read your book, enjoying the midday sun Edward was going to expose himself with.
Everything was going great until you got the uneasy tingle on the back of your neck like you’re being watched. Your tab had been paid for a while and the bistro’s starting to get busier so you figure it’s just other patrons waiting for your table. Corking your half drank bottle, you wander down the street looking for a bench you could continue reading at, hoping there’s maybe a park nearby. As you walk down the street the uneasy feeling subsides and you wonder how long Bella and Alice are going to be.
As you’re passing a narrow alleyway a cold hand clamps over your mouth and everything blurs around you. When your vision finally clears you’re in the iron grip of a grey cloaked figure that’s impervious to your struggling. You kick behind you at his shins, stop on his foot, and thrash in his arms to no avail. You’re hoisted over his holder and everything blurs around you again. You realize you’re moving at vampire speed, probably through alleyways in the city. Screaming out you continue to wiggle and kick your legs as best as you can, pounding on his back with your free hand, the other clutching your tote for dear life.
“Let me go you mother fucker!” You yell still trying to harm him with your fists and feet. The vampire carrying you just grunts.
You bite his hip angrily which does make him falter for a second. “Did you just bite me, human?” He asks incredulously, not believing your feralness.
“Let me go!” You struggle in his grasp but he keeps going, running through god knows what, all you know is it stinks wherever you are. You grip the half drunk bottle of wine in your hand once you enter a more lit area. You lift yourself up from your dangling position and swing across your body and over your shoulder as hard as you can to connect with the back of your kidnappers head. The bottle shatters and he stumbles a few steps not expecting more violence from you.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” He yells at you, shocked at your behavior. You start stabbing the jagged end of the bottle into his back until it is so broken you can risk more without cutting yourself.
“Me? You’re fucking kidnapping me!” You scream back at him, resuming your thrashing. He finally halts in front of giant stone doors, pushing them open with one hand and not releasing you until you’re in the room and the doors shut behind him.
“Santiago, what is the meaning of this?” A voice demands from behind you. You rip yourself out of his grasp stumbling a few steps away.
“Y/N!” Bella exclaims and you whip around to where your sister, Alice and Edward are all standing gobsmacked. You rush over to stand with them, away from Santiago.
“Master that human is a terror! She bit me! She broke a wine bottle over my head! She tried stabbing me with the broken glass!” Santiago pointed at you, trying to explain himself.
“You fucking grabbed me walking down the street and didn’t say shit, you asshole!” You yell at him pointing an accusing finger back at him. The dark haired vampire lets out a startled laugh and your whirl around seeing Edward is trying to suppress a smile.
“Ah, dear. I’m sorry for Santiago’s behavior. We sent him to collect you so you could stand trial.” The vampire tries to explain coming to stand before you. He holds his hand out to yours, raising his eyebrows. You give him your hand and he looks utterly confused grasping it.
“Stand trial for what? I don’t claim him.” You point to Edward, bewildered this is even a problem involving you.
“For knowing of our existence you daft, insolent girl.” The blonde sitting on a throne behind the brunette snarls at you.
“We learned of you from Alice’s thoughts. Your knowledge of vampires.” The vampire let go of your hand breezing back towards the steps leading to the thrones.
“Because you guys do such a fantastic job at hiding it.” You roll your eyes and shake your head. These people are somehow even more conspicuous than the Cullens are.
“You didn’t say anything.” Bella mumbles hurt, eyes filled with betrayal.
“If Mr Emo’s ‘This is the skin of a killer, Bella’ didn’t give you the ick I doubt anything I said would’ve changed your mind.” You raise your eyebrows, knowing damn well your stubborn sister would’ve only pursued him harder.
Her jaw drops and eyes almost bug out of her skull. “How do you know about that?” Her face is red and Edward looks a little embarrassed. A few of the vampires across the room try to hide their laughter but fail. You glance over, catching the eyes of the taller one and his face falls.
You turn back to your sister and shrug, “You talk in your sleep sometimes.” You remember the night she mumbled that and how you almost peed yourself laughing.
“Enough.” The blond stands and you roll your eyes again. You wonder how old he is to be this miserable he’s taking it out on everyone else.
“Aro.” The other vampire sitting on a throne holds his hand out. The vampire, Aro, rushes over to him, grasping his hand.
“How delightful! Congratulations Felix!” He beams over at the guards who were laughing, the big one still staring at you. “It looks like everyone gets to live today!” You wonder what the hell he means by that. “Young Y/N must stay but everyone else may leave.” What the double hell?
“Um, Bella can’t just go home without me? What is she supposed to tell our Dad? That she just left me in Italy? That’s not going to fly.” You feel yourself getting angry, who the hell are these people to tell you that you can’t leave.
“Ah, that is a valid point. Perhaps returning home for a short period of time so you can get your affairs in order would be beneficial to keeping unwanted eyes looking into your sudden disappearance. We will have Gianna draft up a fake internship invitation.” Aro claps his hands in delight, coming down to hold his hands out to grasp yours again. “Felix, Demetri, show our friends to a waiting area until they can depart when the sun goes down. It was so delightful meeting you both, we will be seeing you dears soon.”
The big vampire and the one standing next to him both moved towards the door, Edward glaring at the cocky smirk the big one sends his way. You wonder what you missed. You also kind of wish you still had that wine if you have to stay until the sun goes down.
“Miss Y/N, if you’d come with me for a few moments. I would like to speak with you privately.” The big one offers you his arm and you feel Alice’s tiny hand nudge you towards him. You take his arm glancing back at her but she gives you an encouraging smile as they continue walking in the opposite direction of you two. Bella looks like she wants to protest but Edward shakes his head at her.
“Are you Felix or Demetri?” You ask the muscular vampire as he leads you away.
He chuckles, “Felix but you may call me whatever you’d like, bambolina.” You wonder why he was being congratulated earlier and what it has to do with you and why you almost weren’t allowed to leave.
You enter a room after walking with him through a maze of halls. The stone walls are decorated with paintings of landscapes and scenes of ancient Rome. The pantheon and coliseum in their heydays, a gladiator fighting, the seven hills. They were all beautiful. There was a bookshelf full of books and a seating area, a dresser. You realize this must be his bedroom minus the unnecessary bed.
He leads you over to the seating area, opting to sit on it next to you when you settle on the couch. There’s a brief silence where you stare at each other waiting for the other to start speaking. You have nothing to say not knowing why you’re here but you know it’s because of him so you figure he can speak first.
Felix must catch on because he clears his throat, “How much do you know about vampires?” He asks hesitantly not sure where to start.
“Not much. I figured them out because their cover story sucks and they are kinda strange. Adopted siblings all with the same colored eyes, yeah right.” You scoff, shaking your head. “The old legends about vampires say you guys are ice cold, strong, fast. I figure since they are also ice cold that the rest would be true too. Alice said something about visions and Bella had to run ahead because he’d hear her coming. So I don’t really know why if Bella’s louder than she would be.” You shrug, you didn’t really care enough for clarifying questions. “Alice only found out I knew when we were in town.”
“So not much then. Yes, we have super strength and speed. We can hear, see, and smell better as well. The Cullens and a few other covens are vegetarians, meaning they drink animal blood instead of human blood which is why their eyes are gold instead of red.” Felix pauses and you nod along, your eyes a little unfocused as you think through his explanation. “Some vampires have additional gifts that vary from vampire to vampire. Alice has visions of the future, Edward can hear people’s thoughts, I’m stronger than the average vampire.”
“Oh, that’s what they meant then.” You nod again, understanding a little bit better.
Felix hesitates before continuing. “From your lack of knowledge I assume you don’t know of mates.” He pauses and lets you shake your head confirming you don’t know. “It’s like soulmates but for vampires.”
He watches your eyebrows raise as you slowly nod, putting the final pieces of the puzzle together. “And I take it that I’m yours?” He nods his head unsure of what to say. “Which is why that guy wasn’t going to let me leave.”
He snorts a laugh, “That guy is one of the coven leaders, Aro. And no, originally we were going to keep you here. It’s difficult to be apart from your mate. The urge to protect your mate is very strong and since you’re human it heightens that. Having you leave to somewhere I could not ensure your safety adds a level of anxiety but uprooting your entire life without notice I believe would create an animosity that I don’t wish for us to start with. If you hadn’t spoken up I would’ve even if it wasn’t what I wanted.” He explains in a seriousness that surprises you.
You give a small smile. “That’s very thoughtful of you.”
He smiles back before responding, “We only get one mate. I wasn't going to screw it up in the first ten minutes.” He’s overjoyed you didn’t outright reject him.
“Do you have a phone so we could talk when I’m in Forks?” You ask almost shyly, you’d never had to ask for someone’s number before. Forks is so small, everyone knows everyone.
“I don’t but I will acquire one so we can stay in touch.” Felix promises even more elated you want to get to know him more.
The two of you talk for a little bit longer before he leads you back through the maze of hallways to where your sister and the Cullens are waiting. Felix bows deeply and kisses the top of your hand, smiling and saying “We will talk soon, tesoro.” You smile and wave goodbye before entering the hallway and going to stand with your sister.
Bella almost squeezes the life out of you, hugging you so hard. You laugh, reassuring her you’re fine and unharmed. You wonder what’s all going to happen now, how you are going to tell Charlie you’re leaving. Originally after graduating this year, you were going to just go to college in Seattle to stay close to home but now you have to return here. Will you have to become a vampire? Felix never said explicitly but you figure he won’t just let you die of old age. So many unknowns for now but one thing you do know- you still wish you had that wine.

Right now the tree creature is singing “I am groot” to the tune of “Despacito”, the greatest song of all time according to Spider-Boy. I can not detect any animosity between peopl-

tiger snooze
Prompt: Reader is a shapeshifter and gets stuck as a jungle cat after a night of drinking. Shenanigans ensue.
Pairing(s): Bucky x reader
Warnings: language?, light angst, drinking
WC: 3267
“C’mon we’re sick of you moping and being gloomy, we are having girl’s night,” Natasha flopped down on your bed with Wanda close behind her. Moping, sure, but gloomy was a bit of an exaggeration.
“‘m not gloomy,” you grumble trying to sit up and make room for Wanda on the bed.
“Yes you are, but don’t worry, we’ll get you drunk before making you talk about it.” Natasha hands you a very full glass of wine before pouring her own. Like hell they were going to make you talk about your feelings for Bucky, the very unrequited feelings, that have been making you moody. Never one to turn down a good glass or two of wine or your girls, you think that maybe this isn’t the worst way to be spending your night.
The night progresses like most of the girls nights you have. Drinking too much and dishing out the latest gossip around the tower. You feel your mood improve with each glass that’s handed your way and begin to forget about Bucky and the agent that caused you to begin your spiral of self destructive sulking. The way that the agent had giggled at whatever he was saying and touched his arm made your blood boil. You didn’t understand what she had that you didn’t. You were just as pretty if not prettier, you knew Bucky better, you just didn’t get it. You even have a kickass mutation that allowed you to shapeshift into whatever you wanted.
“Tash do you remember when I turned into a parrot and la-landed on Fury’s desk during the last meeting?” You slur after finishing your fifth, maybe sixth glass of wine. “That was so funny, I thought he was gunna shoot me,” you cackle. Fury was less than pleased but the team thought it was hilarious. Clint shielded you in his jacket after Fury tried swatting you off his desk.
“Nuh uh, no way Y/N. Don’t think you can keep changing the subject on us. We are talking about your raging crush on Barnes and why you haven’t made your move yet.” Natasha crosses her arms fully aware you keep dogging their questions. Wanda nods along backing Nat up even though she’s almost just as drunk as you are.
“C’mon Y/N/N, you can’t keep these things inside. It’s good to talk about it.” She encourages you, her hand resting on yours. They’ve been telling you for weeks that Bucky’s into you but you don’t believe them. How could you when he flirts with agents in the hall outside the gym?
You begin to shut down, the images of him and Agent Hansen flirting in the hall come rushing back to the forefront of your very intoxicated mind. You can feel your eyes begin to prick with unshed tears. Wanda and Natasha share a look because maybe they should have cut you off the wine a few glasses ago. You begin to think about how Agent Hansen has what you don’t, Bucky. It’s not fair, none of it is. Could she really make him happier than you? You breathe deep trying to calm yourself down. You long to be in animal form, when it is so much easier to feel emotions, so much more natural. You didn’t have to speak to anyone, you could just think and not have to worry about struggling to express your feelings.
In hindsight, shifting into a tiger probably wasn’t the smartest thing while you’re drunk and emotionally stunted but the prospect of actually needing to articulate your feelings was something drunk you wanted to avoid at all costs. Natasha sighs knowing this is your way of saying you’re done talking. Wanda, on the other hand, cuddles up against your furry stomach mumbling how soft you are. You drift off to sleep to Wanda’s soothing hand running through your fur knowing you’ll have to shift back and deal with your emotions (and hangover) in the morning.
Expect when you wake up you’re still a tiger. Wanda is still curled up next to you, leeching warmth from your fur. You try shifting back into your human form because you can smell the bacon cooking in the kitchen and you’re hungry. You don’t know why but every time you try shifting you stay a tiger. You nudge Wanda awake with your nose getting worried as to why you aren’t changing back.
“Y/N stop, I’m awake,” Wanda mumbles rubbing the top of your head. You let a low grunt and preen up into her hand. “Why haven’t you changed back yet?” You let out a soft sigh and drop your head onto the bed. You’ve only been stuck once and that was as a bear when you got lost in the woods as a child. The animal aspect of you didn’t allow you to shift back as protection from the winter chill.
“You can’t shift back can you?” Wanda asks softly rolling onto her side so she can look at you. You shake your head affirming her suspicions. She sighs and throws an arm over you, squeezing you softly. “It’s okay, you’ll shift back soon.” You lay there for a few minutes, letting her pet and comfort you. Your mind raced trying to figure out why your animal side wouldn’t let you shift back. It was protecting you but from what? Yourself and your own stupid emotions?
You nudge Wanda head with yours. Wanda. Can you hear me? You think at her. You try again, louder this time, it feels like you are yelling inside your head.
“Yes, I can hear you,” she smiles, “What’s up?” I think because I was so emotionally stunted last night the animal side of me is perceiving it as danger and is trying to protect me. You explain to her, it makes sense to you. She nods her head and chuckles a bit. “That would explain it, I told you that you should talk it out.” She childs you and laughs again when you huff at her. You roll yourself off your bed and stalk to the door, turning back to make sure she was following you, which she was.
Wanda opens the door and walks next to you as you both make your way to the kitchen. You came up well past her hip, near the bottom her chest. You’d easily be taller than Thor if you stood on your hind legs. The smell of bacon got stronger as you neared the kitchen. Wanda gave you a smile and a scratch behind your ears before you entered the kitchen with a handful of your teammates already there.
Steve was the first to notice you two enter, his eyebrows raising slightly. The team is used to you changing into smaller animals to lounge occasionally but it wasn’t as often you changed into a bigger animal outside of a mission.
Wanda moved to Steve quickly, whispering something in his ear before understanding washed over his face. “She’s dealing with some personal stuff right now and got stuck last night.” Your excellent hearing heard perfectly though and broke eye contact with him in favor of finding food.
Sam almost jumps out of his chair when he notices you stalking over to him. “It’s just Y/N, calm down Sam.” Wanda laughs at his terrified expression. Sam relaxes visibly and gives you a smirk.
“What you think shifting into a Shere Khan is gunna get you out of training with me today? Afraid I’ll beat you?” He teases extending his hand out to pet your head. You let out a loud snarl and snap your teeth at him. His eyes go wide as he snatches his hand to his chest as if you actually were going to bite him. You stalk closer to him and heave your front pawns onto the counter. Looking directly at him you let out another low snarl before scooping the bacon off his plate and into your mouth.
“Sam leave her alone. Train with Wanda today instead.” Steve gives him a disapproving look, before cracking a grin at you munching on his bacon. You push your paws off the counter and walk past Sam, swishing your tail and hitting the back of his chair lightly with it. Sam tenses again before relaxing, knowing you’d never actually hurt him.
You stop next to Bucky and peek around him at his plate of bacon and eggs. He sees you coming a mile away. “No way Y/N, you can’t scare me into giving you my bacon.” He chuckles at you, wanting to make fun of Sam just a little. You rub your head against his arm and chuff at him looking up and giving him pleading eyes. He stares down at you, smiling softly and you know you got him. He sighs and picks a piece of bacon off his plate. “Only one, I want the other one okay?” He holds it out to you and you gently take it from his hand, making sure to be careful not to bite him.
Munching on the bacon you prance away, swishing your tail and hitting Sam’s leg as you move to lay in the patch of sun coming through the window. “So I get my hand almost bitten off but Barnes get the puppy dog eyes?” Sam looks mildly offended but ends up laughing with everyone else.
Bucky smirks at him before smiling over to you, “It’s because I’m not a chicken like you.” This sends another round of laughter through the group. You even let out a snort at Sam’s expense. Steve walks over to you with two bowls in his hands.
“Here you go Y/N. Eggs and more bacon. I figured you’d want some water too.” He sets the bowls down in front of you but instead of walking back to the kitchen he sits down next to you. You dip your head down to the food bowl and carefully outstretch your paws to hold the bowl in place while you eat. People start to clear out while you eat and drink some of your water. Steve waits until everyone’s gone before rubbing the top of your head. “If you ever want to talk, I’m always here to listen okay?” He says gently, not sure exactly what you’re going through to make you get stuck as a jungle cat. You lean up and nuzzle your face into the crook of his neck, normally you would have licked the side of his face if you were a normal animal but as a tiger, you probably would have taken a few layers of his skin off.
You lay back down resting on your side as he continues to pet you. Eventually, he has to leave to go train with Bucky, telling you that you could come watch if you got bored and maybe harass Sam a little more. It seems inviting but the sun is so warm against your fur that you couldn’t bear getting up.
Standing in the elevator, you stare at the buttons wondering where you should go. You use your nose to press the button that will take you down to the labs. Maybe Bruce could give you advice on how to calm down enough to change back. Bruce and Tony are hunched over blueprints for some kind of contraption they’ve come up with. They don’t notice you as you creep up behind them.
You walk up to Bruce’s side and nudge him with your nose. He looks over, frowning when he doesn’t see anyone. His eyes drift lower and sees you peering up at him. “Hey, Y/N. Steve mentioned you were stuck.” He pats your head as Tony cranes his neck to see you.
“Yeah, we watched the footage of you messing with Sam.” Tony grinned over at you. “And you making moon eyes at Barnes for his bacon.” You bare your teeth and Tony but there’s no threat in it. You sigh and plop down at their feet, the top half of your body under the table. You miss Tony and Bruce exchanging looks.
Tony sighs, “Listen kid, I’m not going to try and force you to tell Barnes about how you feel. But the amount of times I’ve had to sit through Steve trying to convince him to tell you how he feels when I’m fixing his arm is seriously getting annoying.” Tony’s crouched down so he can look at you under the table. You make a soft noise and curl your tail around Tony’s ankle. “Now, I have some boxed in the corner if you wanna have some fun.” Tony grins at you and you watch his and Bruce’s feet for awhile while they work on their project.
You slink from under the table over to the pile of boxes. There were some big ones that would fit you and some smaller ones that you could stick your head into. You jump into the big box, rolling on your back and lifting your paws into the air while you wiggle around. You extend your claws and smack the side of the box. You hear Tony chuckle as your paw punches through the cardboard on your second wack. You continue to play in the boxes, giving in to the urges from the more animalistic side of your conscience. You slide away sometime later, hungry from your playing.
You prowl into the living room hoping to find someone to give you some more food. Bucky is sitting on the couch eating a sandwich, a rerun of Friends playing on the TV. You slink up onto the couch with him, rumbling softly when his hand reaches up to scratch behind your ear. You rest your head on Bucky’s lap and enjoy his soft scratches and pets.
He’s about to say something when a shrill “I love this show!” ran through the air. Your eyes snap open and follow the figure further into the room. Agent Hansen stops a few feet from the couch when she realizes you aren’t a blanket.  “Oh, wow. Um, that’s a tiger.” She mumbles staring at you. You let out a nasty snarl and bare your sharp teeth at her. Your tail jerks and whips up behind your from where it was hanging off the side of the couch. She backs up a couple of steps and you can smell the adrenaline start to pump through her veins.
“Oh, stop. Don’t worry, it’s just Y/N” Bucky hushes you and tries to give Hansen a reassuring smile. She lets out a soft oh and laughs, still a little afraid of the avenger lounging as a jungle cat. You’ve had enough though, stretching back you raise your hips and let your claws come out and dig harshly into the couch. Sliding off the couch, you begin to slink out of the room letting you tail swish sharply behind you. You can still hear the racing heartbeats of Agent Hansen.
You pass Wanda outside the living room and head back up to your room. You’re unsure whether to be pissed at how Bucky scowled at you for trying to scare the dumb agent away or be sad. You crawl under your heap of blankets on your bed and sprawl out for a nap.
Wanda enters the living room wondering when you’ll be able to shift back. She enters the living room and feels her blood boil. Agent Hansen is standing, looking like she’s about to pee herself. When she sees Wanda she relaxes a little bit. Wanda stares at her with a blank look, and Hansen straightens up.
She says nervously under the Scarlet Witch's hard stare. “Director Fury sent me down here to um, remind Captain Rogers about his meeting with Director Fury tomorrow morning.”
“Captain Rogers is well aware of the meeting. You may go.” Wanda dismisses the agent without sparing a second glance. She locks eyes with Bucky and narrows her eyes. She waits until Hansen is in the elevator in her way down before she speaks. “Wanna tell me why I got growled at in the hallway?”
“Y/N was on the couch watching Friends with me when Hansen came in. Y/N scared her and then poked holes in the couch with her claws.” Bucky’s never seen you do something like that before, sure you mess with Sam but there’s no malice behind it. The snarl you gave Sam versus Agent Hansen were noticeably different.
“Why do you think that is?” Wanda asked softly because if she had to spell it out to Barnes, she will.
He just shrugs, “I don’t know, maybe because she’s not familiar with Hansen.” Wanda sighs, she expected more from someone who was a ladies man like everyone says he was.
“You’re an idiot. She did that to scare Hansen away. Think about it Bucky, her animal side is in control right now. Why would she think Agent Hansen is a threat?” Wanda waits while Bucky thinks. He scrunches his nose and scowls a little bit. Finally, a look of understanding washes over his face.
“She’s stuck because of me isn’t she?” He asks softly. He’s been too scared to do anything about his crush on Y/N. He was cornered the other day outside the gym by Hansen and saw the blank look Y/N sent their way before entering the gym and walking straight to the pool room. He didn’t see you until the next morning when you walked into the kitchen as a grumpy looking tiger. He didn’t even wait for Wanda to confirm it before he was up and walking to your room.
He walks in, immediately seeing you sprawled across your bed, buried under a pile of blankets. The only parts of your body he can actually see is the tip of your tail that's hanging off the edge of the bed and parts of your paws, not completely covered by the blankets.
He says your name softly and sits at the edge of your bed behind you. He sighs when you let you a small grunt but not moving to look at him. Bucky pushes forward, not wanting to chicken out after you literally got stuck as a tiger because of him. “Doll, were you trying to scare Agent Hansen away?” He feels your body tense and your low growl is muffled by the blankets. He rests his hand on your back, trying to calm you back down. He knows you wouldn’t hurt him, but upsetting you even more isn’t his intention.
“Steve’s been trying to get me to tell you how I feel, but I didn’t believe him. You’re so much better and nice than me and I was afraid you’d turn me down.” He pauses and takes a deep breath. He feels your tail creeping around his waist and smiles. “I really like you, Y/N, and if you’ll give me a chance I’d like to take you out when you turn back.” He hears you huff and roll onto your side. He slides up to lay next to you and scratches your head. You close your eyes and a soft rumble makes its way out of your throat.
You end up falling asleep while Bucky is petting you. The soft and tender touches pull you back into the nap you were taking before Bucky woke you up. When you wake up, you feel Bucky's arms wrapped around you and hear his soft snores. You lay your head back down on his chest, content and happy before drifting back off to sleep.

so okay au time
imagine: bucky still falls off the train, and steve into the arctic, but instead of bucky being found with the russians he had fallen into the river and went under the same thing cap did and so when 2012 rolls around and cap’s been found and some bloke (probably coulson) with too much money and sentimentality goes “wait, what iF” and starts a search for bucky’s body, because if the captain was found, what about his ol’ pal bucky?
and lo and behold, they find the body. it’d taken a long time, but they found it. and, due to zola experimenting on bucky, he wakes up just like steve
and like, really just like steve, since he panics and freaks out and throws two people through the door even with just one arm, but eventually he calms down enough to listen to what’s going on (probably to natasha). he’s briefed on the way back to the states where someone had pulled steve from a mission and they were gonna surprise him
and natasha warns him, “he’s not gonna believe it’s you you’re gonna have to convince him,” and bucky just goes “oh, he’ll know it’s me alright” which sounds kind of ominous to natasha
and he walks into the room with steve and the other avengers and the first thing he says “did you get a new uniform? i hate it”
“…bucky?!”
“yeah it’s me,” bucky says as he walks up to steve, who is understandably in a lot of shock and confusion.
then bucky just punches steve in the face.
“I WAS DEAD FOR LIKE A DAY AND YOU NOSE DIVE INTO THE ARTIC?!”
“uh–”
“YOU FUCKING STUPID PUNK I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS. were you just like “my impulse control fell outta the train with bucky” and thought crashing the plane and not giving your coordinates was a good idea?! and i thought that time in brussels was bad but you’ve really outdone yourself this time! anD DON’T GET ME STARTED ON THE ALIENS JFC STEVE ten fucking days outta the ice and do you do the logical thing like, go on a vacation or figure out what you’ve missed? nO”
and continues to just rip into him, to the bewilderment of everyone in the room. then when bucky tires himself out and stops yelling the other avengers think steve’s gonna rip HIM a new one but he just goes “bucky” and clings to him
“yeah it’s me you stupid punk you don’t have to blubber all over me” he says though he’s crying too.
and the rest of the avengers are like ????? because they were expecting a lot of things but not this

Liability
Prompt: Based off of Lorde’s Liability.
Pairing(s): Steve x reader
Warnings: angst, language, mentions of death
WC: 5636
A/N: I’m not too familiar with the X-Men storyline, so bear with me if there are a lot of inaccuracies.
The team is gathered in the conference room going over an upcoming mission. The mission involved infiltrating a nightclub rumored to be run by hydra. Steve is debating with Tony who should be going in and who would be the lookouts.
Tony wants to go inside, mainly because the nightclub has exotic dancers. Steve thinks Tony should be air support outside of the club. “Tony you have little to no training in hand to hand combat. You can’t wear your suit inside or change into it quick enough if needed.” Tony slumps in his chair knowing Steve has a point.
“Me, Bucky, Nat will go inside, Wanda and Scott will watch the door. Tony and Sam will provide air support, Clint is going to watch the side streets from the roof. Bruce is down the street with the van running intel.” Steve shuts his folder and moves to stand up.
“What about me?” You ask wondering why you are being left out. Peter you understand, he’s a kid and you are going to a glorified strip club but you? You can help.
“You are staying behind.” Steve says firmly, setting his jaw when he sees the bewildered expressions of the team.
“Why? I can fight, I can help.” You might not have a power that would contribute to the mission, but you aren’t useless. You know how to fight, and damn well too.
Steve doesn’t hesitate when he says, “You’re a liability.” The room is silent. Natasha’s eyes go wide, Bucky closes his eyes and shakes his head, and Tony for once is speechless.
You stand there staring back at an unwavering Steve. You nod your head a few times, taking in the fact Steve has so little respect for you and your capabilities. You never knew he thought so little of you. “I understand, I’m a liability,” You say back to him, impressed your voice doesn’t waver. “Sorry for the inconvenience then.” You turn on your heel and walk calmly out of the conference room.
You’re angry and hurt. You’ve given everything to this team since the day you joined. You’ve done everything that’s been asked for you, you put your teammates before yourself, and you’ve saved all their asses more times than you care to admit. But the kicker is that Steve Rogers, the man who somehow stole your heart sees you as a burden, or how he put it, a liability.  You set your jaw as the elevator door slides shut and begins to ascend to your floor. You are a strong woman, and you'll make him regret those words by showing him exactly what you give to the team by not giving any more. You’ll go somewhere where you’re appreciated and wanted.
You throw some clothes into a backpack, not worried too much about what you’re grabbing. You fill your backpack with the things you can’t live without. Pictures, a book, and your grandma’s necklace you keep safe on your dresser. You shoot a text to your buddy Scott Summers that you are coming back to X Mansion for awhile.
“FRIDAY no one is to enter the elevator until I get off.” You tell the IA as the elevator begins to descend to the main lobby. You don’t bother answering the receptionist as you exit the tower through the lobby. They're gonna watch me disappear into the sun.
You know the team will be notified immediately, so you waste no time in hailing a taxi and telling the driver to take you to Time Square. You know how to disappear, you aren’t an idiot. You don’t have much money since most of it is on a credit card or in the bank. So you’ll steal a car and drive it halfway to the mansion and have someone come pick you up.
It’s Bobby who comes to pick you up in Eastchester. You haven’t seen him in years. You were a few years older than Bobby when you were last at the mansion. “Y/N! Scott sent me to come pick you up.” Bobby calls out his car window. You smile and jog over to where he’s parked.
“Bobby! Or should I call you Iceman now?” You tease as you pull him into a hug across the center console.
His laugh rumbled in your ear, and he shakes his head. “Bobby will do just fine, Shadow Lotus.”
“Ugh, no one’s called me that in years… I don’t think I’ve missed it.” Shadow Lotus is your ‘superhero’ name, given to you since you manipulate plants. You thought Poison Ivy was cool, even if she’s a villain in the comics. You get where she’s coming from, wanting to be left alone with her plants in an untouched place, not all the killing. You hate how people are destroying the earth.
It’s late when you finally get to the mansion, the sunset long ago and you’re exhausted. Bobby almost turned the car around to refreeze Steve when you told him what happened. If this is how Bobby reacted, then you really don’t want to see how Scott reacts.
The team watches in disbelief as you walk out of the room. For one, they can’t believe Steve said that and for two you didn’t even stand up for yourself. Natasha knows damn well you could have kicked Steve’s ass right then and there and no one would stop you. She could tell you were hurt, everyone could.
“Steven Grant Rogers, what the fuck is wrong with you?” Natasha yells, the first one to break the silence. Steve doesn’t even try and tell her to watch her language because he’s still staring at the door.
“I did what I had to do.” Steve sighs, your face had been carefully guarded after the second of shock after he called you a liability. But the hurt in your eyes wasn’t as easily masked.
“Not sure that’s the best way to win over the girl,” Bucky mutters leaning back into his chair, looking at Steve disappointedly.
“You’re telling me you’ve had feelings for Y/N and you call her useless?” Natasha clenches her fists together and closes her eyes. She takes a deep breath before continuing, “You’re more of an idiot than I thought.”
“I had to keep her safe. I can’t risk something happening to her, and this is a dangerous mission.” Steve holds his hand up before anyone can cut in to defend you. “I know she can handle herself, but she’s not on Hydra's radar. She’s powerful. She could cover a city in plants in less than a day if she wanted. You’ve seen her room, she did that in a matter of minutes.” Steve remembers when you first got to the tower. He showed you your room, and in minutes you had all but covered it in ivy and flowers. He had watched mesmerized as you set a small potted plant next to your window, and without moving a muscle, you had made the plant grow. Vines of ivy snaked along the walls and wrapped around the ceiling fixtures and framed the doors. It was beautiful to watch.
“She’s anything but a liability, but I can’t let anything happen to her.” Steve rubs his hand over his face, he messed up, and he knows it.
“Y/N is the best thing that happened to this team. No one would let anything happen to her Steve.” Wanda crosses her arms and glares at Steve with the intensity of a thousand suns.
“You should apologize before this gets too out of hand,” Clint suggests, he loves Y/N. She’s always asking about his kids and wife.
“Fuck,” Steve whispers and runs his hand through his hair.
“Sorry to interrupt but Susan at reception has asked me to inform you that Ms. Y/L/N has left.” FRIDAY’s voice chimes through the ceiling.
“What do you mean left?” Several voices ask at once.
“Ms. Y/L/N has taken a bag of belongings with her. She requested no one enter the elevator while she rode to the lobby and walked out the door.” FRIDAY responds dutifully. “Surveillance cameras in the front last saw her getting into a taxi.”
“Well done Steve. I hope you're happy.” Natasha gets out of her seat and stalks to the door.
“Y/N has many friends in New York alone. She could have gone anywhere.” Wanda sighs, finding you would be hard.
“FRIDAY pull up her phone, see if it can be tracked,” Tony asks pulling out a tablet.
“I’m sorry Mr. Stark, but GPS is turned off on Mr. Y/L/N’s cellphone. Last known location was Avenger’s Tower.” FRIDAY responds earning a groan from Tony.
“Watch her credit cards and if her GPS turns back on let me know right away,” Tony instructs. Finding you would take more than a miracle.
“How many friends does she have in the area?” Tony asks Wanda, hoping you would choose one close which would be the most convenient for you.
“She has a friend that lives in the Bronx, Wade. She’s also friends with one of his buddies, but I don’t know where he lives. And she’s got some friends in midtown I think.” Wanda racks her brain trying to think of where you would go. She only hears about people from your stories of before your time with the Avengers.
“She said she doesn’t want her friends on shield's radar if they aren’t already,” Clint interjects. He understands and respects her for it. He tried for so long to keep his family hidden and if Y/N wanted to do the same he wouldn’t pry.
“This is all my fault,” Steve whispers and hangs his head. If he hadn’t been so selfish and trusted his team to protect each other, Y/N wouldn’t have left. He vows to himself that when he finds you, he will make this right.
“Y/N! I didn’t know you were back, when did you get here?” Storm pulls you into a hug when you wander into the kitchen the next morning.
“Late last night, Bobby came and picked me up.” You hold on to the white haired woman for dear life and try to hold back the tears. You are stronger than crying over a boy. You didn’t want what Steve said to affect how you live your life.
Storm pulls back to take your appearance in, and her smile fades as she notices the dark circles under your eyes and the tears threatening to spill. “Honey, what happened?”
“It’s nothing. It isn’t important.” You smile, trying to brush off the impending conversation. She doesn’t believe you, and you know it.
“If it’s nothing then why do you look so sad?” Storm smoothes down your hair, she hates seeing you like this.
“I kind of quit being an Avenger.” You give her a sheepish smile when her eyebrows shoot up and disappear into her fringe. “Well, I left without telling anyone, and I don’t really intend to go back anytime soon.”
“Why? What happened?” Confusion laces Storm’s voice. She doesn’t understand why you would leave.
“They are getting ready for a mission, and Steve sat me out but when I asked why he told me I’m a liability. I’m a little much for everyone. I get it. Sometimes I let my powers get the best of me. So instead of arguing, I left and came back to the people who understand.”
“You’re so much better than any of them. If they can’t appreciate you, then they don’t deserve you.”
“It just,” you choke back a sob, “it hurts so much. I loved Steve. I thought he liked me enough to consider me his friend. I love him so much, and apparently, I mean nothing to him.” You can’t hold back the tears any longer. Your vision blurs, and you feel the hot liquid running down your cheeks.
Storm pulls you back into a hug and holds you tightly. Scott, who had heard from Bobby what happened, races into the room. He sees you and Storm embraced tightly and sandwiched you between them. It breaks his heart to see you like this. He and Storm share a look, both silently vowing to show you how much you mean to everyone at the mansion.
After your tears are dry and you’ve calmed down Scott leads you outside. You wonder where he’s taking you, but you don’t fight him. As the greenhouse comes into view, you smile remembering how much you loved spending time in there when you lived here. As you get closer, you notice it’s different than how you left it. Well of course it is, it’s been years since you’ve lived in the mansion.
“We tried our best to take care of it, but we weren’t as good with it as you were.” Scott smiles sheepishly as you take in the state of the plants. Most of them are alive still, they just aren’t as vibrant or perky as you left them. A lot of them need a good pruning and bigger pots, but for the most part, they are alright.
“You did well. At least they aren’t all dead.” You punch Scott’s arm lightly earning a chuckle from him. You walk through the rows, assessing the damage and making mental notes of what you’ll need to pick up from the store. Mostly bigger pots, the rest you could do yourself.
You spend the day in the greenhouse taking care of the plants. Talking to them as you prune, coaxing them to stand up taller as you water, resurrecting the dead plants with soft strokes. Even though you could have done all this without so much effort, you liked taking the time to give each plant the attention it needs. You could have easily manipulated the plants to be exactly how you wanted, but taking the slower route because it gives you something to do.
You’ve been at the mansion for a week before a mission is getting organized. It’s like deja vu as you look through the file you are handed: infiltrating a Hydra base. This time though it’s a warehouse that is supposedly holding a mutant hostage.
“Alright, we are planning on going in with the element of surprise. Storm and Colossus will take the back, Warren, Jean, and Bobby the roof then work your way down. Hank, Y/N and I will take the front.” Scott points at the blueprints of the warehouse as he assigns partners and bases. “There are two floors above ground but, underground is unknown. Bobby, Warren, and Jean go for information on their computers as soon as you can. Y/N and I will find the girl they are holding. Storm, Colossus, and Hank keep the building clear and if you need backup Bobby will help.”
“Do we know where they are keeping the information and girl?” Jean asks not taking her eyes off the blueprints.
“First floor is likely a cover floor. Probably going to store a few vehicles and crates. The second floor is probably going to be where the information is kept based off of other hydra buildings. The testing labs and cells will be underground.” You chime in, this isn’t your first rodeo in Hydra bases.
“We leave in twenty. Get changed and meet in the garage.” Scott stands from his chair and talks with Jane over the blueprints.
You realize you don’t have a field suit with you, only street clothes. So instead of going to your room, you head to Storm’s. She lets you borrow one of her suits, even if it’s a little tight. You are shorter than her by a couple of inches but more muscular from your time with the Avengers. The suit is a lot tighter than you normally wear, but it doesn’t hinder your ability to move around.
The warehouse looks abandoned from where the team is hiding in the bushes. The windows are blacked with dirt, and the paint on the walls is peeling off in layers. If it weren’t for the tire tracks leading up to some garage looking doors, you would have believed no one’s been here in years. Thick vines of ivy creeping up the sides of the building congregating near the windows. You watch as your vines cover the windows in thick layers, sealing away all the possible exits. The only ones that don’t get covered are the front entrance, back entrance, and the roof. The Hydra agents would be trapped inside.
The group splits into three, each subteam moving closer to where they will enter the building. At exactly 7 o'clock sharp, each team enters the warehouse. The element of surprise is on your side. The Hydra agents are milling around playing cards. Before they can open their mouths to yell about the intruders, you shoot vines of ivy at them, pinning them to the ground and strangling them with the vines. Scott and Hank stand next to you in shock, they had no idea you were even able to do something like that. The vines had shot from the dirt ground, but there was a basement under them, they had always thought a plant had to be present for you to manipulate it, but here you are conjuring up plants out of nowhere.
Footsteps scuffle in the dirt approaching where you are standing. Two more agents are coming to see what the noise is, stop in their tracks at the sight of their buddies on the ground covered in vines and dead. They begin to pull their guns out, but before they can do so, you slam them against the wall with more ivy vines. You walk past them with Scott and Hank following close behind you leaving the two men struggling to pull the tightening vines away from their necks before they end up like their friends on the ground. You walk into the main room at the same time as Storm and Colossus. Sharing a brief nod when they alarms start blaring alerting the Hydra agents of your presence.
The room floods with agents as you and your teammates spread out. Electricity cracks in the air, and you can hear Scott’s laser zapping somewhere to your left. You summon thick blades of grass from the ground, catching agents feet and pulling them to the ground. You pin them by their arms and legs to the ground with the grass, they grunt and trash around trying to free themselves. The grass begins to creep up their neck lightly choking them. You can see the fear in their eyes as they feel the grass begin to tighten around their necks. Their thrashing gets more violent as you move past the dozen or so men on the ground to keep fighting the next wave of agents.
Scott jogs over to you amidst the melee and pulls you toward the basement stairwell. Most of the agents are upstairs fighting the rest of the team. You and Scott take out the stragglers quick and easy as you make your way through the tunnels. You pass the testing labs and kill the ‘doctor’ in charge before you make it to the cells. A lot of them are empty and unused. There was a guard hiding in one, and Scott rolled his eyes and slammed it shut. You left it locked, not caring if it was cruel. You didn’t come to sympathize with Hydra agents. You came to rescue the mutant they are holding captive.
The last cell in the block has agents guarding it. You and Scott do a round of rock, paper, scissors jokingly. You throw paper, but Scott throws scissors. You roll your eyes and don’t bother moving around the corner to be in sight of the cell door. The floor and walls are concrete, so it takes a little more concentration, but you manage to squeeze a few vines of ivy through the cracks of the concrete. You surprise yourself, you thought you were summoning normal ivy, but to your surprise when you and Scott walk around the corner it’s poison ivy.
If Scott noticed or has an opinion he doesn’t voice it, instead, he heads toward the cell door. Beaming the lock off, he pulls the metal door open and hesitates before stepping across the threshold. “We aren’t going to hurt you. We came to help.” He calls into the room. “We came to get you out of here.”
There’s shuffling in the room, but the prisoner doesn’t say anything. “I’m gonna come in, so you can see me.” You call into the room. You pause, waiting for her not say no, but when she doesn’t say anything you take a step into the room. “My name’s Y/N, and my buddy out there is Scott. We are like you.” You crouch down, mostly for show, and stroke the ground coaxing some daisies to break through the concrete. You shift to the side, so the light hits the flowers for the girl to see.
You hear light footsteps approaching you from the left and focus on keeping your muscles relaxed. A young girl no more than eleven crouches at the edge of the darkness. You can see the outlines of her features and wonder how long she’s been here.
“Are these real?” She asks lowly, reaching out a dirty arm to touch the petals.
“Yes, I can control plants. And Scott wears cool glasses over his eyes.” You don’t tell her why he does because you don’t want to scare her. “We came to take you away from here and these bad people.” You hold out your hand and give her a soft smile.
“I’m Kennedy. I can disappear.” Her arm reaches out to take yours. Once she’s holding your hand, she slowly steps into the light and practically glues herself to your side.
You and Scott make your way back up to the main area where the rest of your teammates are waiting for you. Warren and Storm are nowhere to be found. Bobby informs you they are getting the cars since they are the fastest. Apparently, Warren airlifted them and used the extra speed Storm gave him with the wind.
“Kennedy these are the rest of my friends. Jean, Bobby, Dr. Hank, and Colossus. They are all super cool.” You whisper the last part after you introduce everyone. She nods slowly and waves back at everyone, but doesn’t say anything. She’ll warm up, you’re sure of it.
“The Hydra base is supposed to be housing something powerful. We aren’t sure what, but we think it’s a prisoner.” Tony hands everyone their files as the quinjet lifts off.
No one’s head is really in the game, they are all thinking about Y/N. She seemingly disappeared once she got into that cab. Tony tried tracking it through cameras, but it’s like she got in but never got out. Steve though has been up to during all hours of the night trying to figure out where you went. Trying and failing.
The quinjet lands a couple of miles from the Hydra base, and the team begins the trek through the woods. The warehouse used to be used for lumber storage. The processing mill is about a mile from the warehouse. Neither has been used since the 80’s.
Nearing the building, the team ducks into the cover of the trees and bushes. The team takes a good look at the building, assessing it for weak points and possible inhibition. It truly does look abandoned. From the peeling paint to the ivy scaling the walls.
Tilting her head Natasha looks at the ivy more critically, it just doesn’t seem right. “Does the ivy look weird to you?” The team murmurs their agreements, but they let it go, nature is weird.
The team splits off Tony, Clint and Wanda make their way around the building. Natasha, Bruce, Steve, and Bucky stay crouched in their spot behind the bushes. Bruce hasn’t taken his eyes off the ivy. It looks thicker in certain spots and hardly any vines in others.
“Ready.” Clint’s voice crackles through the comms, “One, two, three. GO!” The teams slip through the doors ready for a fight.
But what they meet are dead bodies. Steve stops in his tracks causing Bucky to slam into his back. “Steve what-” Bucky’s words die out when he sees what Steve is staring at. Natasha and Bruce slip around the super soldiers wanting to see what’s going on.
“Y/N… she was here.” Steve whispers. He takes in sight before him in shock. Dead agents are laying on the ground with vines tethered around their necks. The looks of fear still etched on their faces and their hands are clutching the vines. A little further into the building there are two agents pinned to the wall with more vines.
“It doesn’t even look like a fair fight.” Bruce inspects the vines and gives an experimental tug to one. Even though Y/N is gone, the vines are still holding on strong.
“Let’s keep moving.” Steve doesn’t wait for the others to say anything before he’s moving through the room to get to the next. The room is silent, bodies littering the ground. A dozen or so agents are laying on the ground being restricted by long blades of grass wrapping around their limbs like thin ropes. Like the agents in the other room, they were strangled by the plants.
“It looks like she wasn’t alone. These are claw marks. Over here it looks like someone was electrocuted. Who was Y/N with?” Bruce examines the body he’s leaning over. The one next to this body appears to have frostbite.
Clint’s team walks into the room casually, weapons down and not appearing to be ready to fight. “The back is clear. Someone did our job for us.” Clint shrugs, the missions a bust.
“Yeah, Y/N did it for us.” Steve sighs, “She’s already been here.” Clint raises his eyebrows at the grass tied agents.
“Let's split up then and clear the building? We can go upstairs and see if they left the computers intact and you go downstairs and see if there’s anything good.” Tony suggests taking the face part of his mask off. Steve nods and begins to make his way to the stairs.
There aren’t as many bodies down here, and only some of them look like you killed them. Their light footsteps echo the halls, stopping only to peer into empty cells. Steve approaches the agents who are slumped against the ground with poison ivy wrapped around their bodies. Blood is splattered on the wall where it looks like each agent was slammed against before sliding down the wall. Whether they died of strangulation or blunt force is unknown.
“Y/N did this?” Steve whispers, he can’t believe you were capable of something like this. He never thought your powers could do this. He knows your powerful, but you summoned a poisonous plant through concrete. It’s left him reeling.
“Her powers are manifesting stronger than before likely due to a stressor. I’d have to look at her DNA and run some tests, but that’s likely the cause.” Bruce looks over the bodies as well as he can while staying clear of the poisoned leaves. No one says anything, but they all know what stressor Bruce is referring to. Steve hangs his head in shame, it’s his fault all this happened.
“Hey, guys we found the surveillance. Come take a look.” Tony says through the comms from upstairs. Steve, Bucky, Natasha, and Bruce make their way back through the building and up to the second floor where the others are.
The team watches you approach the building with some men, a furry blue beast looking man and a man wearing weird glasses. They watch as you make your way through the building killing Hydra agents with minimal effort. The Hydra agents didn’t stand a chance against you let alone the team you were with.
“I don’t recognize any of the people she’s with, but all their suits have matching X logos on them. It’s not hard to guess she went back to the X-Men.” Tony leans back in the chair letting the video continue to play. The team continues to follow you as you move through the building. Eyebrows raise as you will the ivy vines to kill the last two guards. Tony was right earlier when he said he thought it might be a prisoner being kept here.
“Why didn’t I think she would go back to the X-Men. She grew up with them at the mansion.” Steve groans, the answer had been in front of him the whole time. How could he be so stupid?
“Because it was obvious. She’s hiding in plain sight, she knows we know where the mansion is but we don’t know where any of her other friends live. We focused on them instead of following up on the obvious lead.” Natasha’s impressed, she hadn’t thought of looking at the mansion either. Y/N probably hadn’t even thought that far into it, she probably just wanted to go home to her family.
You sit in the grass with your eyes closed, face tilted toward the sun like a sunflower. You’d been doing some thinking during your meditation. First why you had summoned poison plants back at the Hydra base. You figured it was just heat of the moment at the time, but the more you thought about it, the more you are unsure. Sure, you have a deep rooted hatred for hydra and what it stands for but is that the only reason for the poison? Ultimately they were going to die anyways, but it still bothers you. It was a fluke, you convince yourself, it won’t happen again.
You wonder if the Avengers are even looking for you. Probably not. You’re a liability to them. The truth is I’m a toy that they enjoyed 'til all of the tricks didn't work anymore, and then they are bored of me. You survived my usefulness to them, and they didn’t need me after that.
You push them from your mind. Instead, you think back to yesterday when you were in the greenhouse looking tending to your plants. Kennedy had followed you in, she had been sticking close to you as she settled in. You showed her how to take care of the plants and told her how you wanted to depot all the plants and put them into the ground. You explained the rotations you were thinking and how it benefitted the plants. She listened like you were speaking the gospel truth. It was endearing, and you were glad someone else appreciated plantlife.
You didn’t hear someone approaching until they sit down next to you. You don’t bother to open your eyes, you can smell his shampoo. “What are you doing here Steve?” You ask quietly and stay basking in the sun’s warmth.
“I came to apologize. I’ve been looking for you since you left. I’m so sorry Y/N.” Steve begins, he can’t put into words how sorry he is. “I never should have said that to you.”
“So why did you? How did you even find me? And how did you even make it through the mansion without someone trying to kill you?” You open your eyes and cast them down, you thumb one of the flowers that have popped up near you during your meditation.
“You guys didn’t erase the surveillance footage at the Hydra base. We came in a couple of days after you.” Steve trails off, his mind flashes back to the bodies you left in the clutches of your vines. You don’t say anything and continue to toy with the flowers. Steve continues, “I’ve been beating myself up about what I said.”
“You shouldn’t. You spoke your mind and said your opinion. If you wanted me out of the tower there were easier ways, but hey, what are ya gonna do?” You shrug, there’s no use in yelling at him anymore. That was never you, yelling didn’t solve anything. Talking it out sure, but saying hurtful things back to make yourself feel better isn’t your thing.
“I never wanted you out of the tower Y/N,” Steve says softly though he understands why you would think so.
“Then why Steve?” You don’t understand his game.
“Because I love you dammit!” Steve says louder than he intends to. This finally gets you to look at him. You’re eyebrows raised farther than humanly possible. Steve’s got a funny way of showing his love. He sighs, he’s going to have to tell you now. “I didn’t want you to go on the mission because I didn’t want to see you hurt. I care too much about you. I have feelings for you, and I know you probably hate me now. And that’s okay, I deserve it. I just- I wanted to tell you I’m sorry. For everything.”
You continue to stare at Steve in shock. He looks away, his cheeks burning and his heart in his throat. He hadn’t planned on telling you everything. “I love you too, you know. Even if you are an idiot.”
Steve jolts his eyes back to you, he looks like a puppy all full of hope. “You do?” He whispers not believing his ears. You roll your eyes and drag him down by his shirt collar. You place a soft, chaste kiss on his lips. Steve places his hand on your cheek, thanking just about every god he can think of.
He pulls back and rests his forehead against yours. “I love you Y/N, and I will spend forever trying to make it up to you.”
“I love you too Steve.”

BabaDookDookDook
Prompt: you watch a scary movie and get too scared to sleep alone
Pairing(s): Bucky x F!reader
Warnings: language, mentions of the LGBTQA+ icon the babadook
WC: 746
You are paralyzed with fear cocooned in a heap of blankets against your headboard. The only light shining in your room is the movie playing from your laptop, mistake number one. Actually, no, mistake number one was choosing to watch a scary movie in the first place, you could have been watching Parks and Rec.
Now you are crippled in fear, watching The Babadook and too afraid to leave your nest of safety. You’re an avenger for fucksake, you fight literal evil for a living but once a demonic shadow thing comes into the picture you are done for.
You whimper as you watch the mother case the the boy, Sam, through the house, clearly possessed. You regret your decision immensely. You watch, captive to the movie that will surely give you nightmares for the next week, and wish you left a light on or at least had your phone in your fortress of safety so you could call Wanda for backup. She would be sympathetic and protect you.
As the credits begin to roll, you ask Jarvis to turn the lights on inside your bedroom as you hide under your blankets. You peak out slowly, wiping the hair that gathered in front of your eyes. Nothing is in your room with you, much to your relief.
You remind yourself that it’s just a movie, the Babadook isn’t real. The more you deny, the stronger I get. You swallow the lump in your throat as the words from the movie creep back into your thoughts. Yeah, there is no way you are sleeping at all for the next week. Maybe two. And you won’t sleep a wink.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
You let out a strangled scream and dive off your bed onto the floor. You curl into the fetal position, waiting for the Babadook to come in and kill you. Judging from your heart rate, you might get lucky and go into cardiac arrest before anything else happens.
The door swings open and all is quiet for a few seconds before a tentative, “Y/N?” You let out a sigh of relief, as you feel all the tension leave your body. You lift your head as Bucky comes and kneels next to you.
“Y/N, what are you doing on the floor? I heard you scream…” Bucky trails off as he catches sight of the summary page still on your laptop. “Oh doll,” he murmurs, “were you watching this?”
“Bucky, I thought you were the Babadook coming to kill me.” Bucky chuckles at this and begins to untangle you from the bundle of blankets that came to the floor with you.
“Well I actually came to bring your book back, I finished it.” At the mention of a book your eyes dart around the room, looking for the book praying it wasn’t a red one. “Wow, that movie really did a number on you, huh?” Bucky asks softly, wondering how bad the movie must have been to scare you this much. Your eyes land on the grey book sitting on your bed, and you release a shaky breath you didn’t realize you were holding.
“Considering less than five minutes ago I thought I was going to die, yes, I’d say the movie scared me out of my mind.” You watch the grin stretch across Bucky’s face at your sarcastic remark.
“Alright then. I can see you’re busy drowning in your own fear. I’ll leave you too it then.” Bucky begins to rise from his crouched position, you know he is playing with you but you would not risk losing the only protection you had.
“Bucky please don’t leave me.” You launch yourself toward him, wrapping your limbs around him like a koala. You know you’re being ridiculous but you can’t help it. You are not above begging, especially when it comes to being protected from demonic shadow figures.
“Doll, you know I wouldn’t have actually left you.” Bucky sets you back down onto your bed and moves your computer off the bed. He crawls back next to you, stretching to take up as much room as possible. You scoot closer to him, laying on your back next to him feeling the warmth seep from his side to yours.
Bucky rolls onto his side, pulling you into his chest. “Next time, no scary movies alone in the dark.”
“Okay.” You mumble back to him. “Thank you for protecting me Bucky.”
“Anything for you doll, you know that.”
