Just finished A Court of Silver Flames....🔥 loved it! Couldn’t stop thinking of this paring though, even before I read the extra scene. I just think they were cute together and I feel like Azriel deserves to find a mate of his own and I just loooovved how his shadows danced with her 😭😭 find it interesting how his shadows always ran from Elain but are curious about Gwyn... anywhooo...hope you like this drawing I did in an effort to purge myself of this book hangover. It could do with cleaning up but I’ve been putting off client work and I’m starting to feel guilty spending so much time on this 😅 Edit: I forgot Azriel doesn’t have the pointy ears 😭😅 my bad!

A character concept for my current uni project. I’m doing concepts for a hypothetical Labyrinth remake where the audience is young adult and the focus is on the relationship between Sarah and Jareth. With mass media’s current fascination with dark romances (50 shades, HarleyXJoker etc.) I wanted to highlight the ultimately dangerous nature of this fixation. I went with the idea that Sarah sees herself as Cinderella and wishes to be saved by Prince Charming form her mundane existence only to discover that her prince charming is in-fact an evil (goblin) king and it is from him she must save herself. I’m attempting to modernise the characters and reinvent some of the key sets.

For Jareth I have gone with a suave business/lounge suit trying to capture a sense of debonair confidence. I imagine him in a 1800s opium den/ whiskey/gentlemen’s lounge setting.

I want to be clear though - Labyrinth is a classic and shouldn’t be remade. You can’t replace David Bowie as Jareth. It’s impossible. I’ve found it so difficult designing him here; I ended up being inspired by his thin white duke era…

Anyway, I hope you like it!

Shattered. 

The moment of realisation. The glamour is shattered and the decaying reality of her situation becomes all to apparent as the king and menagerie of beautifully horrific creatures lay claim to her. Will she be consumed by the dreams he spins or can she break free before she is entirely shattered?

A girl who spends her time wishing prince charming would come and save her from the banality of her life has her wish answered; only to discover that he is neither charming nor is he a prince... hope you like it!
