this sums up my thoughts about the movie perfectly!!

I just rewatched Paddington in Peru and I need to put down my thoughts, both good and bad(including spoilers):

1. Love the references to previous stuff! The whole marmalade machine thing from the first film, Phoenix Buchanan making a cameo and the "Really nice buns." Paddington with Queen Elizabeth, the first meeting with Paddington and the Browns..

2. The end credits listed the characters and their respective actors, but for Phoenix it said something along the lines: SMALL APPEARANCE OF PHOENIX BUCHANAN BY: PHOENIX BUCHANAN, and not Hugh Grant, which I thought was funny. Also, I find it ironic that both Clarissa Cabot and Millicent Clyde basically have the same punishment: doing something they actually hate, while Phoenix is probably having the time of his life in jail.

3. Olivia Coleman's switch from side character to antagonist when Gina noticed the tattoo is so good. She's a wonderful actress.

4. Antonio Banderas played probably 5 generations of Cabots, no one is doing it like him

5. I love those two paint scenes - the one where Mary paints something but it takes up the entire screen. It's so beautiful.

6. Paddington meeting Aunt Lucy again in El Dorado is so good, and once again, a callback to the ending of the second film.

7. The boat of the Cabots says: Corazón de oro, Spanish for a heart of gold.

8. No Mr. Curry :(

9. Simon Farnaby was underused. I feel he should've been in Peru and have another running gag of being into men in drag.

10. I love the moment when Paddington meets his tribe, he removes his clothing. The hat and the duffel coat, as if he is taking away his 'humanity' or the part of him that belongs to the Browns. Then, when he goes to ask Mary to stay with them again and they let him, he wears his clothing once again, becoming Paddington Brown once more. I'm overthinking it. I know.

11. They should've shown us pieces of Judy's travel log. They say at the end it managed to get her a good spot at university, but I find it a bit skeptic to believe considering we only see her work at it once and not see the result afterwards.

12. This is more of a nitpick: the characters' arcs are the same as before. Jonathan learns to let go of whatever bad habit he had, Henry learns to embrace some risks..

13. While I - just like everyone else - deeply noticed Sally Hawkins her absence, I do think that Emily Mortimer still gave that warmth that belongs to Mary Brown, just in a different way. Both are good.

14. Nitpick: no Uncle Pastuzo :( (although I really understand why)

15. I find it heartwarming that Paddington gets to see his home place again. It's where he comes from, it's a part of his identity, even though it's not his home. His home is in London. I think it's something that can hit deeply for people in the same situation and I hope they too will have a chance again to visit their birthplace like Paddington. Although, hopefully with less danger.
