Steel A Jeeg’s Magno-Mixtape Vol 11

It's been a while, hasn't it? Let's not waste time reintroducing ourselves, we've got some records to spin.

After a chaotic few months (you know, life, people, personal journeys and evolutions, Elden Ring dlc) we're back with a brand new mixtape.

Since it's been a few months, let me refresh your memory. The Magno-Mixtape is a monthly mixstape of music from my collection. Classics, new favorites, and a rare tracks. There's usually a unifying theme (if I have time) and tracks are provided in both lossless and lossy format, along with a text file full of notes and thoughts, and custom album art. Free to share with anyone you like.

Will the releases stay monthly? Who's to say! But we'll enjoy the ride while we're here. But seriously, I hope to keep it monthly again. It's the goal anyway.

This Month's Theme is: You figure it out! The theme should present itself. I hope, anyway. From this point forward - UNLESS it's a special release - the theme is up to you and your ears.

12 tracks of eclectic jams, everything from hip-hop to industrial rock to Japanese hair metal. A little something for everyone - and especially magnetic to music freaks like me.

Statue Model Kamen Rider 1

This was another very cool thrift find. An early Banpresto Kamen Rider statue from the Crane King line of UFO Catcher prizes.

Missing the (honestly, rather ugly) base piece but otherwise perfectly intact and ready for display. A fun toy that isn't trying to be too much of anything special, but pulls of its meager ambitions quite well.

It's a very cool time capsule to an era before the franchise was fully resurrected and running full steam ahead. Quaint, simple, and a very cheap find. Not bad for my favorite character from the 50+ year series.

Sofubi Wolf Orphnoch

One of my rare amazing thrift finds at Book Off. This spoiler territory vinyl figure was released late after Kamen Rider Faiz aired in 2003, and was a Premium Bandai webshop exclusive.

And it shows. The overspray and gorgeously intricate sculpting are immaculate. This is a toy that looks like a premium vinyl release, because it was. And the fact that I paid off-the-rack sofubi prices for this stunning display piece makes it all the more noteworthy.

Day Off

This one was a birthday gift blindbox pull.

I love the Pino Jelly look - a fictional pop singer from a candy world - but this was my first pull from the series.

The hook here is candy colored translucent plastic, gradient painting, and a hyper glossy finish to give that hard candy look. It's such a visually stunning piece in person. My (very dark) photo area doesn't do it justice.

It's a chunk toy, and very visually alluring. It draws attention to a shelf. I'm definitely getting more of these down the line.

I love this toy. Maybe I'm just a sucker for purple figures. This is easily the best version of Vegeta's battle armor - that was never used on any version of Vegeta.

Great head sculpts and paint.

What a gorgeous figure. The shoulders are barely movable, due to the obstruction of the shoulder pads. But even with that limitation, it's still such an incredible piece to have on display.

Poppy - Tree Stump

Peach Riot is easily the biggest new line from Pop Mart, with a cutesy punk rock aesthetic and artist Libby Frame's distinct art style.

Punk Fairy is the second wave, and these designs are stellar. Combining a forest spirit vibe with music festival culture. It's such an intricate sculpt, with gorgeous paint work and an incredible sense of gesture.

Astro Boy Student

What a stunning little figure. This Astro Boy toy from Pop Mart wasn't commercially released in my country (due to licensing agreements) so I was very lucky to find a few blind boxes locally.

I love the variations in textures and paint finish, it really evokes the fabric on metal look - and the big glossy boots. And great gesture sculpting.

It's a beautifully unique toy of a classic pop culture icon.

A very late opening for me - I think I had this figure still sealed from the day it arrived back in 2021. It's an impressive chunk of plastic. Big and bulky without feeling limited in any way. And it might still be the most versatile shoulder armor articulation Bandai has attempted.

The summer is finally here - at least in my neck of the woods - and that means heat, warm summer nights, and plenty of sunlight. But before we indulge in all of that fun in the sun, let's take a minute to look at where we came from.

Whether we're looking back at the road traveled, reveling in our victories, or licking our wounds while we figure out while our next move - there's always something of value in the reflection.

And it just so happens this month is also an anniversary for me and my partner. So there's even a little celebrating to be had.
