Kanti's eyes roamed over Shaba, staying silent for just a beat too long before finally answering. "I'm Kanti, why were you crying?" It was a relief he didn't have to wander off, mother would have been disappointed with him.
· · ───────
The cub startled, alarmed at the unfamiliar voice. His ears angled forward, and, trying to be brave, he puffed his chest out and blinked the tears from his copper-colored eyes.
“Y-… yeah!” Shaba called back, shakily stepping forward a few times. “Um… who are you…?”
He finally emerged from the tall grass close to Kanti, flattening his ears in fear. What if this cub’s mother was around and saw him as a threat?

A basket of raspberries clutched in his red-smeared hands, Buddy skipped down the sidewalk without a care in the world. Content to take his time admiring the view. That was until he nearly stepped on the newly hatched dragon, stumbling back and sending his basket flying in an effort to not crush them. "It's-" He took a moment to examine the hatchling, fur moistened and unable to even stand. He wasn't quite sure what he was looking at. "A..uhm...I...dunno." Suddenly, he shot straight up, swiveling around and sniffing the air in a strangely animalistic manner, before getting down onto his knees. He reached out a hand to stroke the hatchlings back, seemingly without care for the danger an unknown creature could pose.

@stonesreef hatched an egg!

Pip. Pip. Pip.
What had initially seemed to be a mere stone was wobbling on the edge of the sidewalk precariously among the pebbles and grass blades, the unknown form inside wriggling to escape.
A squawking cry emerged as the creature managed to burst through all at once, no longer willing to tolerate its trap.
"Scree-aww!"
Species determination: Kikien dragon. Notes: The kikien dragon is most similar to that of a rodent by behavior, noted for scavenging and collecting trinkets. This species is also known for its soft, luxurious fur, making it the perfect cuddling companion.
The slimy hatchling cried out, its eyes not yet open as it wriggled with a head too large for its body. It spilled out of the egg and onto the pavement of the walkway, twitching and squirming in search of warmth.

Kanti was lost, there was no other way to put it. He knew nothing of the Pridelands- or even that he was an intruder at all, his only goal was finding his way back home. He flipped around, fur spiking up as he stared wide-eyed at the little orange cub. "A... tiger?" Kanti replied, blinking owlishly. "Is this your land?"

Trespassers in the Pridelands were nothing new. King Simba, by now, was known far and wide for his story — and many wanted either to meet him or antagonize him. Though Kopa was told strictly not to talk to strangers, it didn't exactly stop him.
What's wrong with their face...s?
The cub knew better than to say it out loud, but he was certainly caught off guard. He had never seen anything like it before.
"Hey! What are you?" He called out curiously.

Ludovica saunters up to Buddy, a collection of various flowers in her hands. She holds them out with a little flourish. "Ta-da. I think… this is enough for flower crowns!"
(aw yea time for whimsy...)
· · ───────
"Yaaayy!" Buddy stumbled toward Ludovica, a bundle of wildflowers nestled in his own arms. He silently compared their collections, before smiling. "Perfect!" He slumped down onto a nearby grassy patch, patting the spot beside him. "Cmon, cmon! Lemme show you how to make one!"

“Hello! Hello,” Melody calls out. “I’ve never seen any cub like you before!” She buzzes around Kanti, quickly and curiously from his left muzzle to his right, before finally settling in one place in the air in front of him. “Do you want to play with me?”
· · ───────
"I've never seen a fly that talks." Kanti parroted, only the barest hints of surprise seeping into his expression. It wasn't that the cub was uninterested, merely that he didn't emote as vibrantly as many others his age would. In fact, he was rather excited to speak with someone besides his mother, especially a creature so openly friendly. He didn't know flys could talk. But everything else could, so he supposed it wasn't out of the ordinary. And this fly seemed to be a...cub? From the pitch of her voice. Or perhaps all flys talked like that, little and squeaky. His heads tilted upward, angled strangely to follow her with both working eyes. Noses twitching unconsciously as he did so. Blinking, he pondered her question. "..I don't know any games." Kanti admitted, unable to keep the embarrassment out of his voice. He had no littermates to play with, a mother with little time to spare, taking care of them both. There had been no reason for him to learn any games before this. Not like the ones he'd seen the monkeys playing together, when he caught rare glimpses of them swinging through the lush canopy above.

Cain's ears perked up, even through the constant drumming of rain bearing down upon him. He could still catch the faintest sound of a...voice? It sounded young, certainly not something that should be out and about in this weather. "Is someone there?" He called out, straining to hear even with his advanced senses. "It isn't safe out right now. Do you have somewhere to go?" it was hard not to feel sympathy for this stranger- hopefully they weren't simply an imagining of his ailing mind..that'd be a new low.
· · ───────
It was a terrible shelter from the rain. Huddled on the underside of an awning outdoors, Melody was subjected to the relentless pounding of raindrops, one after the hundred others, dozens at once. She whimpered, unable to stand it, but where else could she go? There was no braving the storm for a little insect; she was stranded here.
Though, she wasn’t alone. Melody peered downward and had never felt so relieved to see a dog.
She descended and landed discreetly on his back without question, expecting to bask in the warmth of dog fur and forget all about the dreadful weather. Instead, she touched upon a rain-soaked coat and felt like she had dipped into a glass of ice water.
“Oh!” she yelped and buzzed wildly up and away into frantic loops. “Cold! Cold Cold!”

🌸 for kanti?
"Mom works very hard to keep us both healthy." Kanti's expression fell, the beginnings of a frown tugging at his lips. "But that means she's busy a lot, it's lonely...sometimes I do wish I had siblings, but then I wouldn't...ah. I wouldn't be around."

Sometimes I want to put my older original characters on here but then I get embarrassed because I feel like I'm at that point in my life where I don't have enough life experience to write older characters but also can't remember anything from before the age of ten competently enough to write children. It's like Fucckkk everyone can tell I failed middle-aged man class and forgot everything from being a child class. what ever shall I do. I know I just gotta push past it and do it anyway. blehh. Adult animals are like a middle ground to me, they feel safer than adult humans.
#not a vent just a thought I had#ooc#I'm fucking VIBRATING wanting to put my like. 200 year old and 700 year old respectively characters on here but. wails

Meeka walked between each blooming patch of flowers, completely focused on gathering a small pile by the base of a nearby tree. Dad had been so stressed lately! He always was- his fur was gonna go grey extra young for sure- and she knew how much he loved her flower wreaths, wearing them long after they'd wilted, even Meeka's sloppiest handwork was displayed with utmost pride. Still, her pace was leisurely at best, its clear that both gathering and weaving would take multiple hours at her usual speed. But what was the hurry? Meeka even did all her tasks for today! Okay- maybeee she kinda skimped on some chores. But half of those were Mazin's anyway! He was just being all dramatic about his paw, it seemed none of the adults could see through his crocodile tears, it felt unfair to leave Anara to clean up her brother's messes, but she was big enough to handle it on her own. Dad really needed some cheering up anyway, She was doing the clan a service! Fully absorbed with the methodical motions, she barely noticed Bahati's approach, only after the faint sound of pawsteps registered did she pivot to face him. A lion! She'd never seen one in person before- Dad got upset even talking about them, she'd heard that this ravine sat near a lion's pride, but Ayo said these were where Dad's favorite grew, she had to come! And this one was tiny- at least for a lion- his mane wasn't grown in! Sooo from what she knew he was what, her age? She could take him if he caused trouble! Maybe.. "Hey." Meeka's tone was, as she always is, unhurried. Her posture could have seemed aggressive to an outsider- with her dorsal fur puffed up and nostrils flared- but it was simply mere curiosity mixing with her own excitement. "You..here for the flowers?"
Starter for @stonesreef’s Nyota!
Verse Two- Teen.
Bahati, the adolescent prince of the Pridelands, was practicing his stalking on a little mouse; however, he’d startled it by accident, and now it was racing away!
Growling, Bahati charged after it, hooked it into the air by the tail with his claw, and then let it drop to the ground. Dazed, it ran off, and he let it go- he didn’t want to kill it. Besides, it was hardly a meal for a young lion.
Bahati peered over the edge of the ravine he’d reached, blinking curiously. He scented hyenas, and he crouched into the tall grass overlooking a single female hyena, waiting to attack.
What was she doing in the Pridelands?! His mother, Queen Mvua, had banned their kind from these lands.
Bahati was going to take care of this himself.

It was that time again, The one he dreaded, even if for a few measly moments it made him feel..full, warm again, warm like he was when Cain had him. But now wasn't the time to think of The Huntsman, he hated thinking of him when feeding, it just felt..wrong, sullying. Cain lurched forward, struggling with himself as the dog came into view, already, he scented some lingering anxiety on them, Cain wouldn't have even needed his heightened sense of smell to detect it. Teeth bared, he readied himself to lung and- It's a puppy It was a puppy, it was a puppy and he'd been planning to kill them, Cain already knew he was a monster, that whatever he was was dangerous, that he couldn't be around other dogs- much less humans- but the fact he could have- he was going to- his throat constricted, fighting the phantom sensation of bile rising in his throat. What was there to vomit? He hadn't eaten anything in…in…so long. "Hello." Cain couldn't help his voice wavering, knowing what a sight he was, dirty and matted. But what was the point in cleaning himself? He'd just get filthy all over again anyway.. "I'm- I'm sorry if I scared you." Ignore the hunger, ignore it, ignore it. He wasn't some beast! He- he can control himself, he can do it! Allowing himself a few unneeded breaths, Cain wished he could make sure his eyes were their usual warm brown, instead of the horrid yellow they turned to.

Andy was... Nervous.
It wasn't the first time she'd gotten in trouble for biting, and it wouldn't be the last. Now, she was settled with sitting on the porch during the late evening. He hoped he hadn't bitten Darling too hard.
He shuddered at the nipping cold as a shadow was cast upon the sidewalk outside of the yard's perimeter.
"...Who's there?" She called out to the vaguely dog-shaped figure.
