if you watch any of these smith7 shows (even ones without julien) you can see how powerful this community is in giving people a voice and the confidence to play music and be heard. and it's cool to see how much this philosophy seems to have stayed with julien in how she approaches music and performs. you'll find a good amount of weird julien lore and notice people she still works with today throughout so! enjoy!

Some notes from the Send a Prayer My Way listening party on Bandcamp

(If you were there and you saw someone with a shell userpic in the chat, that was me!)

It was so fun to get to listen with however-many people who were there, and it's such a good album!

For me, it was my first listen all the way through. I deliberately waited for the listening party to hear it all for the first time. My faves were "Downhill Both Ways", "No Desert Flower", and "Tape Runs Out". In that sequence. I also adore "Sylvia" and "Tuesday".

And now some chat notes...

Mackenzie (TORRES) says the recording (heard on “Goodbye Baby”) was the first time Julien heard the jam/jelly joke.

More tour dates are coming!

The music video for “Bottom of a Bottle” was director Ondine’s concept.

Mackenzie apologizes for cancelling the show in Ohio, says they hope they’ll make it back.

Julien doesn’t enter the chat until the end of “Bottle”; Mackenzie arrived during “Marble” (IIRC?).

Violin/fiddle parts on the album are a mix of Hannah Reed and Aisha Burns.

“Downhill Both Ways” was written for JB’s Forrister bandmate Austin.

“Tape Runs Out” is Mackenzie’s favourite!
