It’s been like three weeks and I’m still thinking about this so while i continue to write an actual fic I made an ao3 post of my ideas so far

Some PJO/Hermitcraft/Life Series Ideas because my brain is going wild

Scar is a child of Aphrodite (see my previous post)

Grian is a child of Hermes (aka the “divine trickster”)

Gem is a Huntress of Artemis (child of Ares/Athena that joined the hunters? Idk because the hunters are girlbosses and so is Gem)

Joe Hills is a child of Apollo (literally a freebie)

Most of the redstoners would fit in Hephaestus’ cabin tbh but I especially like Tango in there. He’s got the whole fire motif going it makes sense to me.

Anyways that’s my thesis so far but I will not rest until I’ve scoured the internet for the venn diagram overlap of hermit enjoyers and PJO enjoyers and bonk heads with them all until there’s a coherent AU

Impulse and Skizz have a podcast together called the Imp&Skizz podcast that I would HIGHLY reccomend. Since you’re already a scar and mumbo fan, you may be interested in starting at the episodes impulse and Skizz did with mumbo and scar! (Gem has also been a guest on the show! My personal hope is that they one day get to interview all the hermits)

They have been IRL friends since highschool and played a bunch of Minecraft together like skyblock and a survival “naked and scared.” Impulse is known as a redstoner, he usually ends up making a lot of farms. He was the resident redstone handyman in scarland last season!

Hope any of this is helpful haha, so happy to see more hermitcraft enjoyers spread their wings!

I don’t wanna be lost!!!

Background: So basically I’m a Grian fan and have occasionally watched Scar and Mumbo and I want to become more of a hermitcraft fan overall so, before hermitcraft season 10 I was gonna watch GIGGS, Mumbo, and Smallish so I could get “a whole bunch of new perspectives” but turns out they’re all together (-_-). I’m still gonna follow through with the plan of watching all of them.

Actual question: What is some background (from any Minecraft series) on Gem, Impulse, Skizz, Joel, and not so much Scar and Mumbo that I should know?

A crossover episode of two of my main interests: linguistics and life series/hermitcraft! You’ve pretty much nailed the main differences in their pronunciation to me. :D

RE: Etho's and Scar's Accents

I've heard some people say that Etho's and Scar's accents sound the same to them. But as someone in their general geographic area, they sound distinctly different to me. Here's where you can hear the differences.

--Etho--

Western Canadian, but the lack of Canadian raising can make his accent sound more northwest US from time to time.

ay-sound: lag (laig), bag (baig), exit (ayg-zit), egg (ayg), dragon (dray-gun) (this is typical western Canada and northwestern US pronunciation)

"-t" instead of "-ed" for past tense, like: learnt, spilt (where Americans like Scar would only ever use "-ed" for past tense, as in: learned, spilled)

progress (PRO-gress)

durability (DEER-ablity)

Very little Canadian raising (about = aboot, sorry = soory) unless he's talking to Beef and Pause and then he'll do it on purpose to be funny

pronounces the letter "Z" as "zed"

--Scar--

Scar lives in Washington now, but he grew up in California. To me, his accent is much more CA than it is WA. Also very close to the default "movie accent" you hear in many Hollywood films.

Scar doesn't pronounce the same 'ay' sound as Etho (lag is lahg, instead of laig), this is what places his accent as not from the northwestern US for me

horrible (HARH-ible): Scar's accent is more shifted towards the card-cord (or oral-aural) merger, which is uncommon for most American accents, but you do hear from some Californians

pronounces the letter "Z" as "zee"

Not a linguist or anything. I've just watched a whole bunch of both of them, and I think people's accents are cool. (This post is about regional accents, not speech impediments. I know they have a bit of that going on as well).

things I really appreciate about hermitcraft:

I love that the hermits clubbed together to buy tfc a new pc and monitor in 2020, with a massive screen aimed at combatting his migraines and motion sickness

I love that cubfan has Joe Hills twitch emotes as part of his collection. Joe won't sign a twitch contract and can't have his own emotes, so cub just made some for his subscribers to play with on Joe's streams

I love that Keralis keeps sending computer mice and other gear to the other hermits whenever they mention computer problems (because when you own a hardware company, why wouldn't you be your friends' sugar daddy)

I love that Joe has mentioned that grian will resource gather for other hermits off camera in his free time, just because he can

I love that when iskall talked about his hermitcraft downtime, he said that none of the others tried to force him to make a video, they all just popped in and out, offering his various projects they were working on to see if he wanted to join in

I love that the hermits always have lots of advice for each other - whether it be parenting advice for doc, or just in having worked with mumbo since he was 17 and in sixth form college, of talking about tfc's wisdom (and sometimes we even get to learn about tango's washing machine and international taxes)

I love that hermits will take on infrastructure projects, like netherhubs and railways and roads and enderfarms

I love hermits helping hermits

I love stream weekends

I love that some hermits are dedicated enough to neglect their own bases and spend weeks helping out a friend - particularly Cleo, moving into stress' season six castle and Scarland and more to build diorama after diorama.

I love the dedication that the hermits have, and I appreciate how hard they worked for the king arc, the crossover, and the charity stream.

I love the strength of the community when a charity stream comes around.

I love that hermits will rush across the server or panic log in when someone needs help - killing doc's escaped withers, collecting gear, clearing lava after a tactical log out, turning off farms

I love that they offer each other building advice and redstone help (even if it is just scar and iskall being judgy about block choice)

I love scar's first reaction to ever seeing grian in person was 'you're drowning in fans at this convention, I wish I could help you, but we don't know each other yet'

I love Hypno and Joe singing karaoke at minecon in 2012

I love that they do make a wish hermitcraft guests and hermits who can help will be there

I love shared farms and shared resources, and a hermit flying in unprompted to drop off a shulker of that thing you mentioned you needed for no charge

I love hermitcraft as a community

I like the idea that Bdubs is a child of Poseidon solely because Poseidon’s main thing is the sea but he’s also the god of horses??!!?! So imagine being a new kid at camp and you’re like “whoa Bdubs is a child of the big three he must be terrifying and can command the oceans” and then the older kids are like “nah he talks to horses”

I really wanna write a fic with the life series (+others maybe) in the pjo universe. Who would the life series characters godly parent be? This is what I have so far:
