Splendid isn’t just about clothes; it’s about an entire lifestyle that emphasizes ease, comfort, and confidence. The brand’s commitment to sustainability further enhances this ethos. The materials used in their collections are thoughtfully sourced, and their design processes focus on reducing waste and promoting ethical manufacturing.
Visiting Splendid’s New York store is more than just a shopping trip; it’s an experience that lets you immerse yourself in the brand’s commitment to quality, comfort, and timeless style. It’s a reminder that fashion doesn’t have to be complicated to be beautiful. Whether you’re picking up a cozy sweater for the upcoming winter or browsing for the perfect pair of soft joggers, you’ll find something that makes you feel effortlessly put-together and ready for whatever the day brings.

Going to the Louis Vuitton flagship store on 57th St. was nothing short of a delight.
All of the employees were personable and delightful. We were able to go explore each floor with ease, which was categorized by men’s/women’s wear, and then accessories. There were also feature collaborations in the form of speedy bags on each floor, such as Supreme, Stephen Sprouse (shown above), and Yayoi Kusama. Each floor told a different story, whether it be an installation, a fun piece such as a dog house (shown above), or a rack of fabulous coats. Thank you to Louis Vuitton and staff for an incredible and exciting experience!

This week, we got the chance to visit Create a Marker, one of the few garment manufacturers left in the district. Everything is sourced and made here. They work with just about any brand you could think of, primarily focusing on ready to wear. They also encourage up and coming designers to work with them to get a head start on their brand which I think is very inspiring. A key takeaway that I learned from this visit was hearing about the different types of measurements and margins that they have to use when manufacturing garments for a brand. Thank you Create a Marker for your time and amazing experience!

Elegance meets luxury here at Fifth Avenue Woman.
Sophia, a now experienced jeweler of all price points didn’t always have the desire to go down this path. She had gone to school to study computer science, but she knew in her heart that jewelry was her true passion. She was able to show the different kinds of finishes, stones used (if any), and other processes to create her jewelry. She works with anyone from small businesses to high end designers and department stores such as Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman. She was incredibly inspiring, noting that the jewelry you wear is who you are as a person and it must be personal to who you are.
We were able to shop afterwards, and I got a beautiful sterling silver bracelet for an absolute steal. Thank you Sophia and 5th Ave Woman, looking forward to working with you in the future!

What a time we all had at the Dover St. Market! Getting to see one of a kind pieces from well known designers spread out through 8 fabulously merchandised floors was truly a sight to see. We were also able to chat with a few store employees as to how they differentiate each floor, whether it be price point, men’s/womenswear, etc. My favorite part of this tour was the new Valentino exhibit (shown above) by Alessandro Michele. People from all over the world come here for inspiration, whether it be for another company or a label of their own, and I can now completely understand as to why they do. Thank you to Dover St. Market and staff for this amazing experience!

My childhood dreams have officially been fulfilled: getting to see a physical Harry Potter store in New York City.
With excellent commentary and tour guides, we were able to learn about every corner of the store, in addition to seeing live props used to throughout the filming of the entire series. While this was more of a ‘fun’ trip, there was a merchandising aspect that we could be able to look into if need be which I thought was really interesting. I definitely will be making at least one more pit stop here before I leave in December! Thank you for a magical experience, Harry Potter store staff.

Last week, we got the chance to visit the Cotton Inc. NYC Corporate office and chat with Aubrey Howard, a current trend forecaster whose been with the company for the past seven years. Aubrey went into great detail about her role within the company, how she travels all over the world to work with clients and shows what the company as a whole can offer to them. We got to see firsthand samples of textiles and garments that they help produce and feel them first hand as well as see a sample of yearly forecasting presentations. I didn’t realize how complex the company was, but I was both intrigued and amazed! Thank you Aubrey and Cotton Inc. for your time.

Visiting the New York Embroidery Studio was a delightful experience that intertwined both artistry and craftsmanship. Each corner of the studio showcased the intricate work of talented artisans, using old, restored machinery that has been in use with the company for decades, because they know that is what works best. They are slowly but surely getting into new technology, including but not limited to 3D printing designs, and a self serving patch making machine. They work with many famous designers, but also encourage young lesser known ones to work with them to get their lines a head start. If I ever get the chance to work with them for a project again, I would be absolutely thrilled.

This week, we headed to the one and only Museum of Broadway. Located on W 45th, this is definitely one you can’t miss.
Showcasing the entirety of its history, I was adorned by the costumes and beauty that have made the shows we all know and love as iconic as they still stand today. With fantastic tour guides, I was informed of just about anything Broadway related you could think of, both the good and the bad. Not only did I learn a lot of history about Broadway after coming here, but I am now more eager than ever to find tickets to an upcoming show!

Jamie at Nordstrom Rack
This past week, we had the privilege to listen and chat with Jamie Seiden, the marketing project manager at Nordstrom Rack. Her job is completely remote, so she is able to work from anywhere. If need be, there are corporate office locations in the city so she is easily able to access those if need be. I really enjoyed her being able to express how she can use her creative outlooks and previous learned skills on the job and everything that goes into it.

This week, our class had the honor to visit M & S Schmalberg Custom Fabric Flower Manufacturers. They are the only physical store manufacturer left in New York City. Working with clientele worldwide, they are definitely a force to be reckoned with.
Not only did we get to hear about the company, we got to go behind the scenes to see how the flowers are produced, which surprisingly hasn’t changed much over the past century, still using heavy metal molds from generations ago. I found it fascinating as to how they can use most materials to create their flowers, as well as repurposing fabrics from old garments to create new ones. If I have the chance before I leave, I’m definitely making a lot stop back here!

After exploring my neighborhood, I realized there was much more to it than I thought. Being right in the middle of all different types of suppliers and individuals of all different backgrounds was very interesting to see in person.
My favorite stops, classically included the infamous New York Public Library due to its vast appearance and being able to see the classic lion statues placed throughout the exterior of the building. Another store that I learned about was Muji, an affordable art supplies and clothing store that I will definitely be going back to. Mood was a neat stop to see as they have had the largest selection of the finest fabrics one can access.

Last week, I had the honor and privilege to visit the Met Exhibit, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion. If I had the chance to spend all day there and read everything, I absolutely would. A very well done exhibit and curation of pieces. I’m so glad I was able to see the exhibit before it closed down the following Saturday.
Learning not only about new designers but the inspirations behind the ones I admire and am inspired by including Maison Margiela, Alexander McQueen, and Schiaparelli I found both intriguing and fascinating. Seeing how each room within the exhibit flowed into one another made me feel a sense of ease and peace while learning new things. I thought that it was really interesting how they included smell and touch features throughout to give a wider sense of what the whole exhibit was all about.
