#inktober Day One: Poisonous. A Grung hunter stalks the jungles of Chult, their skin toxicity a lethal deterrent to predator and prey alike. I'll be trying to complete the @jakeparker #inktober2018 list this year (swipe for the list); I looked at some other lists and just like how open this one is, though I will be trying to theme the art after Dungeons & Dragons. After a few years of getting halfway through and running out of steam, and reading some tweets from other artists, I'm going to try and keep it low pressure. I have a day job, I have commissions to complete and non-art commitments to maintain.. if I fall behind, I fall behind, and I may even try combining more than one list prompt into the same sketch. Gone as far as I care to with the hellhound. The Dr. Ph. Martin's white covered my ink mistakes on the elevated paw well enough, but did not react well to water color. I suspect it might do better with a thicker, less wet medium but as it stands I covered it with a joke. Can't sleep. Drew a beholder while watching #criticalrole on YouTube (listened to the episode C2E23 today at work). Last day of May and I manage to finish a #mermay bit. Art has been few and far between; the day job Consumes All Energy. Wanted to do a humpback/mammalian mermaid... It's supposed to be a benevolent encounter with the diver but it's hard to make baleen look friendly. This is a smaller version (9x6) of a larger version (11x14) I started on toned paper. Drove through Molalla today for work and witnessed a front-yard confederate flag on a pole, and no fewer than five “OreGUNian” monster truck stickers, so today I felt a bit inspired to finish this piece. Started not long after the Parkland shooting, in response to (and in support of) the student protests against the NRA. My halfling rogue, Rusty Ruskettle, just made 6th level and I really enjoy the voice and character. I've an eighth level tiefling druid, Grendel, that I kiss the hell out of... But I can't stop obsessing over the idea of a dragonborn monk, Nameless. Finally sketched him out based on a miniature I put together on @heroforgeminis and decided against the usual dragonborn head-frills. I was thinking of the kensai subclass, with focus on the quarterstaff. He is linguistically mute, and communicates via limited ASL combined with growls and whistles kind of like Dragonbait from Forgotten Realms. I was too late to the protests, but walking through downtown I was pleased to see so many people with signs voicing the need for reasonable change in gun law. Conversely, it's hilarious to me how much of a fit gun-fetishists are throwing; I suppose if my entire identity were wrapped up in owning a machine gun and that was the most interesting thing about me I'd be mad too, but as it is I'm hoping we can see some positive change so schools can go back to just having fire drills and not active shooter drills. #art #comics #illustration #marchforourlives #fuckthenra (at Portland, Oregon)
