Hey remember that thing about halo characters and Love? Here's a look at Linda's chapter

There's a comfortableness in being in her team's orbit. The surety of something more than just back-up. The not-quite-family patch-worked together with scars and sutures. A state of being in perfect harmony with one another. Body and mind trained to be complimentary instruments in an orchestra. Breathe in, shot, breathe out. The familiar focus of overwatch and the pleased warmth of a job well done. Do your part well and everyone comes home.

Teams are well-maintained weapons. Weapons are all there are between you and annihilation. Tools to be used, to complete missions, to perform actions. There will be a box for her at the end of this game, if she makes it that long. Words made things complicated. but Linda knew her truth. They call her zen, but she is clearheaded and bright eyed. She knows her reality and with Nornfang she creates a reality where her team-family-siblings-numbers come home-back-to-base-beside her.

Words or actions, she knows which one she's relying on. Words are used to describe her, talk over her, try to make her fit into a box that chafes and smothers, but actions are her own. Actions are shots taken, signs given, and a bell rung for the last time.

To fall under her scope is to be loved, in some way. And then to be changed. Linda 058 is the lone wolf, the sniper without a spotter. She is a guardian angel and a whisper on the wind.

Words are promises and the universe doesn't always let you keep them. John tries so hard to keep them and he often succeeds, but Linda doesn't feel the warmth-affection-fear-pride-worry for him for that. She cares her brother and her team for many reasons, some complicated and some not at all. The words don't matter. Actions do. Her team matters because they're real and breathing and standing alongside her, they have her back and count on her to have theirs.

They're alive and real and not a fading memory of a burning Reach or a woman with red hair and her nose making promises the universe didn't allow.
