good friends
you and suna are just friends, and have been just friends. so why is he thinking about you non stop? it's like every time he turns the corner, he's looking for you. every time he grabs a coffee, he wonders what the chances are that you would randomly show up through the door. every moment he's thinking of excuses to talk to you. which is silly because you guys are friends so he can just text you whenever he wants to... right? warnings. angst-ish. (as per usual)
if impulses and urges were meant to be kept in check, then why have them at all? “should I text them?” the answer should always and automatically be no. but why? what if this time it’s different and the right thing to do is to in fact text them? ignoring the fact that every time you text each other it’s either when someone is drunk or one of you becomes freshly single, but those times were never for nefarious purposes. it’s because you guys are great… friends! yes. good friends, in fact. and good friends text each other to just catch up. it’s the normal thing to do. so thus being said, the question is again posed: should I text them? well, let’s take a another second to think about it more (because if we think about it more then it stops being an impulsive decision and it starts being a logical decision---obviously). what exactly will be going in said text? certainly not a drunken love confession or a nefarious booty call. certainly not. but perhaps a simple “hey” with a well placed emoji? hm.. too casual and too random. or maybe a more formal “how was your day?” no. too intimate. no, no, no. none of these will do. with no natural segue into a natural conversation, suna decides to do the next best thing. the only option now is to go out and get utterly wasted and “accidentally” call them up. yes that will have to do.
ah, the things we do just to text a friend. a good friend. —
an. this is straight from my heart. very much. right now. should I text him? no probably not.

confrontation
pt. 2 to Jealousy Jealousy [ childhood friend!kuroo x yn] confrontation, it sticks onto your heart, mind, and blood pressure like a terribly persistent parasite. there is no going back once it latches on.
warnings. angst
it's the question that's always lingering in the back of your mind.
Do you? Do you? Do you?
like an incessant drum that keeps pounding away, driving you crazy. when he shows up while you're studying and starts rambling about his day filled with unforgiving professors and nonsensical assignments that drum is beating. when his name comes up in a conversation with mutual friends it’s pounding. when you see a couple holding hands to bear against the harsh wind tunnels that barrel through your campus you hear it. when you're lying awake in bed as the sharp pangs of loneliness start to settle in for the night the question only screams louder: do you? do you? do you?
"how did you do on your exam?" he might ask, but all you hear is
do you still like me? begging to be asked.
"are you planning to go home over the break?"
do you still like me? at the tip of your tongue.
He brushes your sleeve, “I like your sweater today.”
do you still like me? a powder keg, ready to explode.
your heart was electric and you were so royally screwed. but you knew you could never ask the question. why would you risk your friendship over a question that you already knew the answer to? he got over you a while ago, which was made very clear every time he asked you for advice over whatever new girl he was crushing on. and you couldn't forget that you were the one who rejected him in the first place. yet, no matter how many times you went through this same mantra to yourself, the question still remained. in fact, the more you tried to erase it from your head the closer it got to bursting out of your mouth.
when the weather shifted from cool fall to brisk winter,
“Do you—” you caught yourself. What were you thinking? Risking your friendship over a question that you already know the answer to? “Ah—ahem. Sorry.” you fake a smile. “just a cough! allergies..”
when you sat in the passenger seat of his mom’s newly refurbished but forever beat up car as he drove you both home for the holidays,
“Do you—” you burst, accidentally interrupting his explanation of a new attack his volleyball team was trying out. he pauses his story to glance over at you. you blush. “ahem. do you want to turn the heat up a little? I’m a little cold..” you silently curse yourself at that close call.
because no matter how many times you go through the scenarios in your head, confrontation was never your strong suit. some things are better left unsaid. and maybe, no matter how much the regret eats you up inside, just maybe this was never meant to be.

everything and everything
[ gojo x yn ] what was it like dating gojo satoru? it was everything.
warnings. angst, broken relationship
what was it like dating the most powerful sorcerer in the world?
you remember days of satoru coming home late at night. night after night. in the beginning, you would gladly stay up and wait for him to walk through the front door, so you could hold each and whisper sweet nothings to each other and slowly fall asleep. but eventually, you didn’t bother to leave the light on. and eventually, he didn’t bother to come home.
most days you were able to tell when satoru was stressed or overwhelmed with something from work. those days he would joke a little too much while tensing and pushing away your every touch. all you wanted to do was hug him. comfort him. to let him know that he was safe here with you. but all your words would dry up, and all you got was a door shut in your face.
you knew that his job, his role, in this world always left him used to being alone at the top. being the strongest. you knew that he lived losing everything and everyone he ever loved. you knew that from the beginning, some part of him would always keep you at a distance because he was afraid of losing you. you knew, but you couldn’t understand. you couldn’t understand that the distance he kept was something you could cross. that if you really tried, and really asked, you could have done it together. you didn’t know that when gojo loved, he loved with his whole being and with everything that he had. you didn’t know that all of that belonged to you.
but to be fair, it actually wasn’t so bad in the beginning. in fact, it was really really good.
there were days filled with quiet walks in the mornings and sweet, laughter-filled nights. days of chaste kisses and hand-holding behind the buildings—like you were high schoolers all over again. it may have seemed like a honeymoon stage of puppy love, but it wasn’t that at all. you had arguments too—terrible terrible arguments. you had nights where you cried all night. where one slept on the sofa and the other alone in the bedroom. and yet, through it all, someone always came back, and you would wake up next to each other. holding each other. you guys worked. when one was feeling their worst, the other was there to be their best.
you saw the worst in each other. but you also saw the absolute best in each other. it was, love.
so what was it like dating gojo satoru? it was joy, and comfort, and pure. but it was also sorrow, and pain, and loneliness. it was everything and everything. he could have done it forever: loving you and the everything that lay in-between. after all, he is the strongest.
But you weren’t. You were just, you.
and everything was just too much.

[10:15 pm]
game over. game over. game over.
Matsukawa Issei stares, dead eyed, at the screen in front of him as a deep and guttural wave of despair sinks into his gut.
"idiot!" issei winces and pulls his headphones slightly away from his head as makki's voice blares out at full volume. "we could have won that round if you just listened to me!"
issei leans back and crosses his arms over his face. "that loss was all you man. I was the one actually being good at the game."
"no way you're delusional like that..." Issei stretches with a yawn, tuning out makki's usual post-game rant, when a pair of arms slide over his shoulders and gently wraps around his neck. he looks up to meet your eyes that peek out from behind his obnoxiously pink gaming chair.
"hey," you say and lean forward to rest your chin on his shoulder. "lost the game?"
"yeeaah, but maybe if I get a kiss I'll win the next round?" smirking, issei reaches up to draw his fingers through your hair. he settles his hand down on the back of your neck, and you roll your eyes as he gently pulls you closer to him. your lips are mere centimeters apart, and a gleeful issei closes his eyes to get his well deserved incentive.
"issei, is that a girl?!!?"
issei jerks his hand in surprise and accidentally knocks your heads together. "ow." you mutter. your hand goes up to feel the now tender red spot growing in the center of your forehead. in a huff you untangle issei's hand from your hair before moving toward his bed where all your study books have been strewn about.
an indignant issei, also rubbing his head, pulls his headphones back on.
"yes, makki, that was a girl." he rolls his eyes.
"no way. Matsukawa Issei actually has a REAL girl in his room?" Makki laughs. "the boys are gonna go crazy."
issei rolles his eyes. again.
"so who is it?" issei could just imagine makki leaning forward in his chair, eagerly waiting for the chance to embarrass issei in their "seijoh boys" group chat. issei refuses give makki that satisfaction.
he grins. "your sister."
makki goes dead silent.
"hello? you there makki?"
through his headphones, issei hears makki breathing in and letting a steady breath out. "yeah right issei. be serious--who is it?"
"mm, i'm pretty serious about this." issei glances over toward where you are by his bed, putting your textbooks back into your backpack. he furrows his brows and frowns when you stand up to swing your backpack over your shoulder.
"just because you go to the same university as my baby sister does NOT give you the authority to be making jokes like this--"
"hold on man, I gotta deafen for a sec."
"wait what? come on, just give me some serious answe--."
issei clicks the deafen button on his chatting client, effectively shutting up his best friend, and swivels his chair around to fully face you.
"what did makki say?" you ask. issei stands up and walks toward you.
"he didn't believe me when I told him his sister was here." he shrugs.
you hit him gently on his shoulder. "don't tease my brother like that. he was always more weakhearted between the two of us."
Issei spreads his hands out in front of him. "hey, I was only telling him the truth." you shake your head, laughing.
issei tilts his head to one side, then pulls you into his chest. "you leaving?"
you sigh and push your face closer into his shirt. "yeah I should head out before it gets even later. I have an early class tomorrow so..."
issei sighs, resting his chin on your head, when he suddenly pushes back and looks down at you--mischief twinkling in his eyes. He quickly slides his hands into yours, and pulls you back toward his desk. Issei sits down in his chair and nestles your legs in-between his own. due his sheer abundance of height, even sitting the two of you are still almost eye level. "how about this:"
you raise a brow.
"if I win this next game," he continues, "we have a sleepover."
you let out a full laugh this time. "oh man, you are funny huh?"
"hey," issei wines "I'm serious!"
you smile, and your eyes catch on a stray hair that rests against issei's forehead. you reach to brush it back, but issei grabs your hand before you can and intertwines his fingers with yours. "hm? whaddya say?"
you look at him. his eyes give the barest hints of "puppy dog" while still maintaining that cool "I don't care what you decide" smirk. but what melts your reserve is the slight tinge of pink that not-so-subtly creeps up his ears.
"fine," you give an exaggerated sigh, "i'll stay, but only if you win the next round."
issei grins and swivels around toward his setup. He un-deafens in the chatting client and pulls his headphones on again. "hey man you there? I'm back."
"Finally! where have you been?" makki exclaims in neglect. "I've been waiting for the past, like, 15 minutes now."
"sorry man, had to talk to my girl for a sec." issei quickly clicks around the screen to get his character ready, "down for one more round?"
"you know I am, but hold up for sec because 'your girl'?? c'mon man don't bs and just tell me who you have over. i am your best friend you can trust me!”
issei wordlessly turns his mic up to you in response, his eyes never leaving his screen. you lean forward closer to the mic. "issei wasn't lying," you say.
makki falls silent again.
"ready to start the game?" issei's mouse hovers over the Start Game button.
"_____???? WHAT. ARE. YOU. DOING?" Makki shouts. "I'M BOOKING A TICKET TO TOKYO RIGHT NOW AND YOU BETTER BE--"
"okaay, starting!" issei gleams as he once again effectively shuts up his best friend, or (also more accurately) shuts up your brother, and clicks Start Game.

jealousy jealousy
read pt. 2 here [ childhood friend!kuroo x yn] jealousy, the green fickle monster. creeping in the shadows, in the quiet lulls at loud parties, in your heart- all the places it shouldn't be.
warnings. angst-ish
you were the one who told him that you wanted to stay friends when he confessed to you that late summer night. you played if off as a joke, because to you that's what it was when it was dark and you couldn't see his face as you sat next to him in the passenger seat of his mom's beat up car. you knew that he was nervous about going off to college, being away from everything he knew. you knew that he was clinging on to you because you would be attending the same university for the next four years, and you would be the only familiar space in a scary new world. so that's why you told him with confidence that it would never happen, not even in a million years, and that you were best off staying platonic.
so why is it that when you see him flirting with people at parties or laughing with friends and making memories without you being part of them, so comfortable and happy, you feel sick to your stomach? why is it that when you're walking through campus and you see a head with that crazy rooster hair your heart skips a beat? and why is he always on your mind when you were the one laughing at the notion of being anything more than just friends?
as someone with little to no romantic experience, you chalk it up to the fact that it's probably because all your friends are falling in love as the summer breeze turns into a cool autumn. because you're starting to feel the loneliness sink in, and he's the only boy who's ever really given any real attention to you. now you realize that maybe you're the one clinging on to him for any sense of familiarity, because the academics and social scenes at college are a lot harder than you thought they would be, and you're a lot more introverted than you thought you were.
so you know he's just a friend and you know you're just lonely. but why do you keep wondering if he talks about you to his friends, or wonder if he would still take you back, even though you were never together in the first place?

badlywrittenfics pt. 6 [like the dead.]
warnings. just the msby four + yn being silly with each other
"dearly beloved, we are gathered here today-"
"atsumu, you idiot they only say 'dearly beloved' at weddings" you whisper yell.
"wait what? really? then what am I supposed to say at a funeral?"
"I don't know but hurry up and figure it out. or else you're fired."
"guys stop making so much noise you're going to wake him up!" bokuto says, waving his hands wildly in a gesture to the man in front of you.
for it is none other than Sakusa Kiyoomi, lying asleep, flat on his back with his arms crossed. You all had received quite the fright to walk into the MSBY dorm earlier, making quite the ruckus mind you, only to find a sleeping Sakusa on the sofa. The man was completely laid down flat, sans pillow like a psychopath, and so closely resembled something of a haughty cadaver. This scene instantly shut up the rowdy group, as each one of you had at least once been on the receiving end of a vicious Sakusa who's nap had been interrupted. There was an unspoken agreement for the four of you to quietly retrace your steps back out of the dorm to find some other place to play and lounge, when
"I still find it so weird how Sakusa sleeps like a dead person." Hinata shuddered, as he reached to close the door behind you all.
Bokuto stopped dead in his tracks, a slight crease starting to form between his eyebrows. "Wait a minute- that is so true! I never realized that until now..."
and the next thing you know, four innocent curious beings had scurried back into the dorm, circling around a certain dead sleeping man to get a better look like a pack of vultures. At this point, an unnamed piss haired fellow had brought up the fact that despite being deep into a REM cycle, their dear omi-omi still managed to look so stressed. "I hope that in his next life or the afterlife he will be able to find true peace in his heart."
"wow atsumu, you sound like you're giving a eulogy." you snorted.
it was at that comment that an idea was sparked. And, as one thing always leads to another...
“Okay whatever guys just shut up and let me continue,” Atsumu yell-whispered, “dearly beloved we are gathered here today to celebrate— I mean mourn the loss of our precious Omi-Omi. Let us have a moment of silence.”
You all solemnly bowed your heads, only to freeze in shock as a pair of dark, dead eyes made slow eye contact with each one of you.
“What is going on here?”

badlywrittenfics pt. 5 [procrastination]
[.roommate!osamu x reader]
warnings. long-ish? bad grammar
you didn't mean to. you meant to finish your work, eat a proper dinner, and go to bed in a timely manner. that's what you meant to do. what you didn't mean to do was to fall asleep in the middle of your room while trying to finish the essay you had procrastinated all day.
It all started as you sat down at your desk with a plate of snacks to fuel your essay-writing. The day had been so long already with back-to-back classes, and you were physically exhausted from standing for an 8-hour shift at your part-time job. So it made sense that you accidentally opened YouTube instead of your essay document. Just one video, you told yourself, just to destress and relax before getting into my school work. But of course, one video turned into another which turned into binging a new tv show and a movie. This was not good. Heaving a sigh, you shook your head and mentally prepared yourself as you finally pulled up your essay. But alas, sleep started to overtake you and your eyes were drooping so much that the words in front of you looked like a pile of mush.
You knew that if you lay down for a quick nap, you wouldn't wake up until the next morning. But, you were just so tired. Then you had an epiphany. You had just recently bought a new rug, and it was turning out to be one of the best decisions of your life. If you couldn't sleep on your bed, then the rug would be the next best thing! Thinking about it logically, taking a nap on the floor would be perfect because it would be comfortable enough to have a good sleep, but uncomfortable enough that you wouldn't sleep for too long. Right?
-----
It is no surprise to Miya Osamu to come back home and find his roommate fast asleep on the rug at 2am. He would always find you napping in random places around your shared apartment, but the floor was a first. He had originally come into your room to see if you wanted a snack and ended up finding you curled up on your rug with your laptop quietly humming.
"yn?" he said as he gently started to shake you awake, "yn? do you want to move to your bed?"
"hmggh... essayyy..." you responded
he chuckled and shook his head, before pulling you into his arms. Osamu scooped you up, strode over to your bed, and gently placed you on your covers. He then shut the lights off in your room before heading back over to pull your blanket over you.
"s-samu.." you garbled
"hm?"
"hakckjeoj" you sighed, still very much half-asleep
"that means nothing to me, yn."
seemingly giving up on speaking, you lazily waved your arm in his general direction and tried to grab at his arm. "cmere please."
Osamu raised an eyebrow, suppressing a smile at your ridiculous movements. He crouched down to your level to wrap his hand around your waving wrist, then slid his fingers up until they were laced between yours. "is this what you wanted?"
this time you sighed in contentment, the warmth of his hand comforting you and lulling you into a soft sleep.
-----
groggily, you slowly opened your eyes as the sun streamed through your curtains. you were wrapped up completely in your blankets, which did not make sense for many reasons.
you were supposed to be taking a quick nap so how is the sun out
you were supposed to be on your floor so why were you in your be-
oh.
You sat up to see Osamu sitting on your floor, his right arm carefully tucked under his head. His Onigiri Miya uniform shirt was completely ruffled up, and his hair stuck up in multiple directions. What caught your attention, however, was his left arm that was reached out towards you. still intertwined with your hand.

[ 2:30 am ]
atsumu wakes up with a start. he sits up, bleary eyed, blinking in confusion at the clock that reads 2:30... 2:31 am. still weighed down by sleep, atsumu thinks nothing more of it and lies back down. that's when he hears a faint sniffling coming from just outside the slightly ajar bedroom door. with only the soft moonlight filtering in through the curtains to guide him, atsumu pulls himself off the bed and pads over to peek outside the door. in the midst of the complete darkness of the hallway, he makes out your figure curled up with your knees pulled to your chest and slightly shaking.
"yn? are you okay?"
"hm?" your head lifts up. "oh yeah no I-I'm *hic* okay. y-y-you can go back to sleep." you sniffle.
"are you sure? because you're not really looking okay." he walks over and slides down, decidedly sitting next to you. "and as the best roommate ever I'm here for you."
you start to cry even harder at that.
"whoa yn! I'm sorry did I say something wrong?" atsumu panics, not sure whether or not giving you a pat on the back would make things better or worse.
"I-I'm so s-s-sorry" you bawl, "I don't know why I'm like this it's s-s-so stupid!"
"hey! no don't say that you're going to be okay." he decides that maybe a hug would be a better choice than a pat on the back, and starts to pull you into his chest. he tucks your face into his shirt, and rests his chin over your head. "i am here, so don't worry and just cry. it's.. it's okay."
you close your eyes and let yourself fall loose into atsumu's embrace. the darkness of his warmth envelops you in a sudden tranquility, and all your loud thoughts starting to calm down.
"atsumu?"
"yeah?"
"can you hold me a little tighter? yknow, put a little more pressure on me?"
"huh? I mean yea of course." he readjusts himself to be more in front of you, and pulls you into his embrace even tighter.
you press your face into his shirt, still trying to steady your breathing. "I read somewhere that this pressure helps to calm people because it activates something in your nervous system that lowers your heart rate or something like that."
atsumu gives a small chuckle. "and is it working?"
a small and muffled voice you sigh. "I think so.. I don't know. They say they do this for cows."
this makes atsumu break into a soft smile, and he presses a light kiss into your head. he pulls you in a little tighter, just for good measure, and closes his eyes as he rests his cheek on top of your head.
you’re going to be okay

[ 11:45 pm ]
Bokuto Kotaro always seemed to have a reason to end up falling asleep in the bed of his extremely handsome roommate.
One day it was “Akaashi! There’s a bug in my room so I MUST sleep in yours tonight.”
Another time it was that the neighbors were just too loud from his room.
One night Bokuto even complained that “I have a big tournament coming up and I can’t risk any back pains from my uncomfortable bed. I have no choice but to simply just sleep next to you in your much more comfortable bed.”
And every night Akaashi answered with a simple “okay”, before opening his bedroom door wide to let Bokuto in. No matter how strange his reasons got, Akaashi always let Bokuto in. Even that one time when Bokuto sadly noted that his heater wasn’t working (in the middle of summer), and that he just had to sleep in Akaashi’s room, he was welcomed in with open arms.
knock knock knock
This night was different. Akaashi didn’t know why or how, but something just seemed off about Bokuto tonight. So when he opened his door to reveal a droopy Bokuto standing before him, Akaashi was not surprised.
“What’s the reason tonight Bokuto?” Akaashi asked, “another bug in your room? are you uncomfortable again in the bed that you bought? Is it somehow miraculously thundering only in your bedroom?”
Bokuto then suddenly pulled Akaashi into his chest, wrapping him in a tight hug.
“Tonight I feel lonely without you and I need you to hold me as we fall asleep.”
oh
Akaashi inhaled sharply in surprise. He was not expecting that. But slowly he began to relax, feeling the warmth of the man before him, and leaned closer into Bokuto’s arms.
“okay.”

[ 1:23 pm, MSBY Practice ]
Miya Atsumu was off his game today, and everyone could tell. His sets were off, his receiving was off, and his serves were just sloppy. Overall he looked okay, but it was just that he seemed…
“Distracted!” Bokuto exclaimed, “why is he so distracted today?”
“Dunno.. maybe he’s not feeling well?” Hinata shrugged “but it doesn’t seem like he has a fever or any weird illnesses going on.”
Bokuto perked up, “Ooh! Maybe he’s crushing someone!”
Usually Sakusa Kiyoomi couldn’t care less, but this caught his attention. Maybe it had to do with the fact that Miya’s distracted performance negatively affected his own precious practice time today. Or maybe it had to do with the fact that not too long ago (literally last night) Sakusa Kiyoomi was wallowing over the sudden discovery of his crush on the very person in question. But Sakusa was above things like silly little crushes. In fact, he began to think that perhaps he didn’t have a crush on Miya Atsumu, and was simply just impressed with the setter’s volleyball skills.
However, this situation occurring during practice started to bring back to his mind some intrusive thoughts he had been trying so hard to push away. Thoughts like how pretty Miya looked today, or how nicely his abs had shone with sweat after their intensive warm ups earlier in the morning.
“Let’s go ask him!” Hinata giddily bounded towards the setter, Bokuto not too far behind him, who sat on a bench across the gym, looking deep in thought. Sakusa followed behind, subtly.
“Oi Tsumu!” Hinata plopped down on the bench right next to the blonde, leaning in close “what’s wrong with you today?”
Atsumu looked up in surprise at the sudden crowd around him. “Oh what? Whaddya mean?”
“Dude, your sets and serves have been all over the place today!” Bokuto frowned “you’re totally buggin.”
Atsumu sighed. “Fine, something is up. But you guys have to PROMISE not to say anything.”
The trio around him nodded, murmuring in agreement
Pursing his lips, Atsumu leaned forward. “Okay. Hypothetically, let’s say someone has a crush on someone they’re not supposed to.”
Sakusa scooted a little closer now, because technically teammates weren’t really supposed to date each other. What were the odds that Atsumu was talking about him?
“and the other person might also like them back, but they’re not 100% sure”
Sakusa was finding it hard to breathe now, a slight blush creeping up his neck. Could Atsumu like him back?
“Should the person confess to the other person, even if there’s a chance it could ruin their situation and their already established friendship?”
Bokuto sighed. “Maaaaaan that’s a tough one.”
“I would confess!” Hinata grinned “it’s better to let the other person know rather than to let these feelings just sit there festering. I’d go crazy.”
“Right?!” Atsumu bursting up straight in his seat. “That’s what I’ve been telling Samu to do this whole time!”
wait what
“Wait, what?!” Sakusa couldn’t help but yelp out.
“Yeah,” Atsumu shook his head grimly. “My stupid brother fell in love with his roommate. Sooo typical.”
Sakusa felt like his world was falling apart. His face grew hotter, the blush on his neck growing stronger-
“Omi why do you look so red”
Sakusa glared at the owl-head harder than he’d ever glared at anyone in his whole life. He then spun on his heel and stalked back towards the court before anyone could question him even further.
[ later after practice ]
Omi sighed, leaning against the cool lockers. Another day, another practice with unrequited feelings toward my setter.
Or so he thought.
