author’s note: happy valentine’s day! i wrote (and barely edited) this very quickly because i wanted to publish it while it was still valentine’s day in my timezone! enjoy!

Tears were still clouding your eyes as you sat at the bar. You’d driven here after walking in on your boyfriend with another woman—your two best friends had both betrayed you in the most gutwrenching way.

“Crappy Valentines?” the man a few seats down from you asked.

“Somethin’ like that,” you scoffed.

“Well–”

“Look no offense, but I’m really not in the mood to be hit on, okay? So kindly fuck off and let me drink in peace.”

He nodded curtly; “Ten-four.”

You finished the glass in front of you and gestured to the bartender for another. You downed that one quickly and again asked for another immediately after.

“Cheated on, huh?” the man from before asked and you finally turned to look at him. He had a small, sad smile on his plush, pink lips and his green eyes seemed to look at you with sympathy. 

“What makes you say that?” you asked.

“I, uh, I know the look,” he replied. “How about the next rounds are on me?” he offered, you smiled a little in thanks. “I’m Tom, by the way.” You told him your name, figuring it was the least you could do.

“So, Tom, I’m guessing your Valentine’s Day hasn’t been much better than mine?” you asked.

“What makes you say that?” he quoted you with a bit of a smirk.

“You’re drinking alone in a bar attached to a cheap-ass motel,” you retorted. 

“Touché,” he laughed. “So maybe my day’s been shitty too… or maybe I just came here to hit on the lonely hot chicks.”

You narrowed your gaze at him, stifling a laugh; “Maybe. But something tells me you came here for the booze and not the chicks.” His smile faded a little at that but he was quick to plaster it back onto his face. “So how about we drink together for a bit and when I’m buzzed enough we head over to the dance floor and act like our day hasn’t been hell?” you suggested. 

“Sounds like a plan, sweetheart.”

You both got to talking and eventually, you told him the whole story. He held back most of the comments he wanted to make; hope he drops fuckin’ dead, for example, or who in their right mind would do that to such a gorgeous fuckin’ woman!?

“Well, he sounds like a major dick,” he commented. 

You listened to his story too, though he clearly wasn’t being as open with you as you were with him. But, you couldn’t blame him. His issue seemed to be about trauma linked to the actual day and less about something that happened recently.

After nearly half an hour of talking, he took your hand and led you to the beat-down jukebox in the corner.

“Does this shitty thing even work?” you scoffed. 

“Let’s hope it does or this dancing thing is gonna be pretty awkward,” he joked. He managed to get a song playing. “May I have this dance?” He turned from the jukebox and looked at you, but quickly noticed the tears welling in your eyes. “Shit, you okay?”

You sighed with a nod; “This was kind of… our song,” you admitted.

“Of all the songs for me to pick,” he scoffed quietly, mentally kicking himself. “I… don’t know how to switch it.”

“That’s okay,” you said softly, a sad smile gracing your lips though the tears stayed in your eyes.

“How about we dance to it anyway?” he offered. “That way it’ll become our song and the next time you hear it you won’t think of that cheating bastard, you’ll think of the somewhat good-looking guy you met while drinking yourself half to death?” He smirked and wiggled his brows a bit, making you let out a laugh. 

“Somewhat good-looking, huh? Have you looked in any kinda mirror recently?”

He shrugged, still smirking; “Didn’t wanna seem too cocky; had to downplay my looks a little, gauge your reaction.” You let him put his hands on your hips as you both started swaying to the music.

“That so?” You put your hands on his shoulders before you trailed them to the back of his neck. “And what’d my reaction tell you, handsome?”

“That this song is now officially ours,” he replied. “And every time you hear it you’re gonna remember my handsome face instead of that ugly asshole’s.”

“Thanks for that, Tom.” You smiled up at him, continuing to let him guide your movements. “I’d much rather think of you.”

You rested your head on his shoulder and his grip on your waist changed to wrap around your torso. The song was slow so he didn’t feel the need to change anything about the way you two were dancing—he just held you and gently swayed back and forth with the rhythm.

When the song ended the next one that played was more up-beat and “danceable” so you pulled away a little.

“Oh my god, I love this song!” you exclaimed, beginning to dance a more energetically while you still kept your hands on him.

He chuckled at your reaction and began dancing more too. His hands went back to your waist and he twirled you around. With your back pressed against his chest he turned up the heat a little; trailing his hands forward and up your body slowly. You smiled widely, enjoying the feeling of his touch over the thin fabric of your long-sleeved crop top. He twirled you back around, your hands catching your weight on his chest.

He looked down into your eyes; “Just thought I should gauge your reaction again.”

“And what’s it saying this time?” You smiled up at him, keeping your hands on his chest.

“That it might be okay if I kiss you right now?” 

You nodded before he leaned down to place a kiss on your eager lips. Before he could, however, your phone rang and you pulled back to check it.

“Damn it,” you mumbled, seeing the name.

“It’s him, isn’t it?” Tom asked and you nodded. You were about to answer but he whipped the phone from your hands and hit decline. “Stop,” he said when you reached for the phone, “forget that guy! He clearly doesn’t know how to love a woman like you—someone so gorgeous, funny… talented dancer.” The last one made you laugh through the sting of fresh tears. “And I hope he drops fuckin’ dead! How about we just keep dancing so I don’t have to see those tears slip down your pretty face, huh?”

“Guess I’m all yours tonight,” you replied.

“That’s more like it!” He took you back into his arms before he kissed you.

You woke up the next morning to the sound of someone knocking on your apartment door. You sighed and grabbed your pepper spray before going to answer it. When you looked through the peephole, however, you smiled and placed the weapon down on the table by your front entrance.

“Hey Tom, what’re you doing here?” You smiled after you opened the door. He held out the bouquet of roses he had been hiding behind his back.

“Happy belated Valentine’s Day,” he said. “I hope I made it a little less shitty for you and that you won’t hate this holiday the way I do.”

“Thank you,” you replied as you took them from him. You stepped aside so he could walk in. “I’m gonna find a vase for these, why don’t you make yourself comfortable?”

He nodded and made his way to your couch. He knew the layout of your home and where you lived because he had driven you home last night (well, earlier that day, technically) and made sure you got inside safely. You had offered to let him spend the night but he had declined politely, saying that as much as he enjoyed your company he didn’t want the two of you to become a one-night-stand. “Besides,” he had said, “I’ve got something important I’ve gotta do.”

The idea that Tom’s ‘important thing’ may have been just getting you flowers made your heart swoon in a way that you’d never felt before.  

You hurried and put the flowers in a vase before you went over and sat next to Tom on the couch. He smiled at you before you turned on the TV.

“Wanna watch something?” you asked but your eyes widened when you looked at the screen; “Oh my god.”

“Two individuals brutally murdered last night…” the news reporter went on to say the names of your ex and his new girlfriend (your former best friend). “Officials say it was a robbery gone wrong, due to a missing engagement ring presumably still in the romantic, heart-shaped box it was purchased in barely two weeks ago from a local jeweler. No suspects are in custody—” 

Tom shut the TV off as tears began rolling down your cheeks.

“Th-They’re both dead…” you barely whispered. The thought of the two people you cared most about being killed for no fucking reason made a scream erupt from your throat. Tom pulled you into his chest and you sobbed, gripping his shirt with all your might.

“I-I’m so fucking sorry,” Tom whispered.

After a (very long) session of tears and Tom’s gentle shushing, Tom was making breakfast in your kitchen as you sat at the table. 

“It could’ve been me,” you said. “I-If he hadn’t cheated on me, if we hadn’t broken up, I would’ve been in her shoes. I’d be dead.”

“Thank god you aren’t,” Tom said. 

“Maybe if I had answered his call–”

“Don’t think like that,” he interrupted. “Just be grateful that you weren’t there and that you’re okay. This isn’t your fault at all in any fucking way, you understand me? It was just a robbery gone wrong and as tragic as that is, that isn’t on you.”

You smiled a little, though tears were still slipping down your cheeks. He had a point and even if he was technically still a stranger, he seemed to care about you. 

“We’ve got her now, Tom. She’s all ours.”

“What’d you say?” Tom looked at you over his shoulder.

“Nothing.” You smiled sadly at him. “Just…thanks.”

“Don’t mention it.”

Undertale is for Everyone

Happy Valentine's Day! Yesterday marked five years since the day I first started playing Undertale. It's led me to dwell on what exactly I would say the game has meant to me, with how loaded a question that is. There's so much I owe to Undertale, and the joy it's brought me is something everyone is as deserving to be a part of. Despite some recent fandom events, all members of the fandom need to know that the game celebrates and welcomes them with open arms, which I'll get to more in a bit.

I first played Undertale at a period in my life with a lot of unanswered questions, both for present me and future me. I'd managed to not give it a try in the first few years it was around, but after running into enough Deltarune fan content in the wild when it came out, I played Chapter 1 and loved every bit of the atmosphere and characters, and I wanted to play Undertale right after. After accidentally killing Toriel and starting over, I was immediately drawn into the story it told and the friendships I was making. My appreciation of Sans was there from the start, and here I am, many reader fics with him later, and the rest of the main gang felt like buds I'd been hoping to meet some day. Even the minor characters meant so much to the journey, and by the time it was done and I'd seen what Frisk/the player's kindness and want for peace can do, I was completely hooked and the game rented a free condo in my brain.

What I wasn't expecting was the other ways Undertale's touched my life. I'm trans, and before I'd played, it had only really been associated with discomfort and a wish for things to be better, without much of a light at the end of the tunnel to look at. Undertale's queer-friendly themes and the characters' insistence on being themselves opened me up to thinking about a future where my own kindness and, well, determination can lead me to being the true me. While my trans story was far from done, it helped me see the future as something I can smile about, rather than needing to be afraid. The fics that I've written about Undertale, and especially the bone-friend, since I played have also led me to meet the people I consider my closest friends, as well as being a gateway to other fandoms that have captured my interest. These connections I've made through the game are ones I'll carry with me for the rest of my life.

So, where am I going with all this? Undertale has invited me into a better path than the one I'd been taking, and that's an opportunity I'll forever be grateful for. Unfortunately, there are some in the fandom space who have shared hateful views about people simply for who they are, and everyone should know how far those views are from the truth. Undertale is a game about love and growth, and it is the responsibility of those who participate in its community to follow its footsteps and celebrate everyone for their traits; not just tolerate, but celebrate. For fellow trans people in particular, I've been thinking about this the most; you are real men, real women, and real non-binary identities, and all of those things are represented in Undertale itself. Celebrating trans lives isn't just the right thing to do, it's a part of this wonderful game we're all enjoying together.

Maybe this reaches just two people, or twenty, or more if I'm lucky, but whoever does read this far, thank you for taking the time to see how much Undertale has meant to me over these five years, and I hope you know how much you mean to the community. We're all making it a better place by being ourselves, and I hope the game keeps lifting people up for many years to come. Now, go read that new volume of the Undertale/Deltarune Newsletter!

Lesser-Known BNHA Character Details

A list of things from the light novels, spin-offs, and such that I think more people should know about because they’re fun •w•

For reference on my personal canon hierarchy, with the exception of spoofs (SMASH, I’m looking at you) I consider the main manga and anime the top, and accept everything else that doesn’t contradict the information provided there—for example, I’ll accept Tsuyu’s ghost encounter as canon, but I personally believe she was with a cousin at the time since we know she doesn’t have an older sister.

Yaomomo’s mother is a very sweet person who goes out of her way to make her daughter’s friends feel welcome, adores Jirou, and has been nicknamed Yaomama. She is also a terrible cook and has the critical thinking skills of a sea cucumber (source: light novels, specifically volumes 2 and 3)

There is a pro hero named Odd-Eye who basically embodies Middle Schooler Syndrome. His Quirk is forcing people to reveal their embarrassing secrets (source: Team Up Missions volume 2)

Izuku likes zombie movies, or at the very least has seen enough of them to know their common tropes (source: Training of the Dead OVA)

Aizawa became a teacher out of peer pressure, mostly from Midnight (source: Vigilantes)

Izuku becomes a “bloodthirsty quiz demon” during trivia games. Most people are terrified by this, but Eri thinks it’s cool (source: light novels volume 4)

The large scar on Izuku’s right arm is from Dabi, not Muscular. When the boys land in the clearing, Dabi’s fire is seen brushing his arm exactly where he later has the scar (source: main story, training camp arc)

You two only recently began to become friends. Valentine's Day was on February 14th. Today was that day. Jungwon was in a complete panic. How should he ask you out? Should he get you a gift? A card? He was unable to get any rest. Why are you the only person to make him feel this way?

Sure, he has a major crush on you, but you two are still in the "friends" stage. Though his friends tell him to ask you out, he's afraid of rejection. He isn't too skilled in these type of things. The thought of him being deeply in love grossed him out...in a good way? He had no idea; perhaps he should just quite having such negative thoughts.

With the whole Valentine's dance coming up, it was the perfect time to ask you out. He planned out this whole thing accurately—there's no way he would just let this go to waste. He just knew he will ask you out soon. And today was that lucky day.

Pink and white heart streamers were strung in front of the entryway as you and Hanni entered the building.

“Wow, they sure are celebrating Valentine's Day in style, huh?” You chuckled at her response while Hanni fixed her gaze on the ornaments hanging above her. “They sure are. I should go to the decorating event with the student council.” Both of you parted ways. "Hanni, see you later!" You briefly observed her waving good-bye.

You dashed over to the room where the members gathered to help (and totally not to see Jungwon). You quietly opened the door, revealing Jungwon and Sunghoon arguing over which pictures to hang, Karina and Yoon laughing in the corner, and Theo and Taehyun silently organizing the decorations. It was certainly chaotic.

Jungwon is the first to notice you, with a small smile and a wave. Sunghoon notices him and gently nudges him, only to receive a tsk from Jungwon. “Hey Y/N! Please take a seat!" Sunghoon motions to the empty seat next to Jungwon.

You nodded and sat next to him, pulling the chair closer. Various types of large sheets of paper were placed on the large, round table. "Oh, right—Y/N, which is better? Sunghoon just won't stop arguing about it with me." He asks you, hoping that you will finally end this 30-minute debate.

"Um... isn't the cupid one better?" Jungwon frowns as Sunghoon cheers. You noticed Jungwon's finger placed at this weird red heart paper cut out with sunglasses. You spoke up as you strangely stared at his choice. "But...! We could also hang the heart one. The more the merrier." You gave him a slight smile, causing him to flush.

"You only chose that one because Jungwon likes it" Sunghoon says, getting a nudge from Jungwon. "Soulmate things, I think." He walks away with the decorations, leaving you with Jungwon and your unmistakable pink face..

You're sure he noticed your expression, but he didn't say anything about it. "We should probably start decorating the main dance area right now." He stands up and scrapes two chairs across the floor. "All right, let's go!" He moves his arm forward, forcing you to follow him with the decorations.

It didn't take you two long to get there. The dance would be held in the gym, which was large enough to accommodate every Decelis student. He carefully places a chair near the wall, pointing to it. "Here." He softly says before placing the other chair right next to you.

Jungwon was watching you from the chair to make sure you didn't fall. Once he saw that you were okay, he got up himself. You weren't really exchanging words; you were just silently working together. Your teamwork is really something.

Jungwon was a nervous wreck as you calmly hung the decorations. He had a lot to tell you, but he didn't know when. "So, do you have anyone to take you to the Valentine's dance?" he clears his throat.

“Uh… no?” You took a brief break from taping up the banners. "No, if you're talking about a date. But maybe with friends."

Jungwon takes a deep breath and gathers all of his remaining courage. "Well, that could be changed."

Wait what? You immediately turned to face him, unsure if you had misheard. “Excuse me..?” You were unable to express yourself properly. "I could be your date." He avoids making eye contact with you while fiddling with his thumbs.

"I've liked you for a long time—fuck, I was even the person who love news was talking about. The person that had a crush on you? Yeah, that was me.” He quickly looks at you, trying to find any signs of rejection.

Shutting his eyes, he continues on what he wants to say. “It's why I've been trying to talk to you a lot lately. And since we're both in the student council, I thought it would be a good opportunity to tell you about my feelings."

“Oh.”

Jungwon stutters after a brief silence in the room. "However, you don't have to accept it. If you prefer, we can remain friends."

"No, no, no, I accept. I'll be your date," you said, reaching for his hand. You smiled broadly, exposing your pink cheeks. He smiles back, giggling as you maintain eye contact. It went better than he had anticipated.

You both decided to take a short break. He says something to break the silence while you both are smiling about what happened earlier. “Hey, you didn’t react earlier when I said i was the person love news was talking about. Did you know?”

“Oh, I knew. Yunjin told me.”

“That snitch…” Jungwon mumbles under his breath, which makes you laugh. "It's all right—after all, we're both going to the dance as each other's date."

“You’re right.”

Continuing to giggle and hang up the decorations together, a choked cough could be heard outside the gym. Jisung was standing outside, overhearing your and Jungwon's conversation.

Ignoring his pain at seeing Jungwon beat him to it, he threw away the flowers he bought for you and the handwritten apology letter.

"I knew this was bound to happen." He says this while wiping a tear from his cheek. Walking away slowly, he started regretting everything he did. He wish he wasn’t so controlling back then, he wish he said sorry to you sooner. Maybe if he did, things would be different for him.

It was too late to turn back now. Whatever happened, happened. It’s just fate.

“I hope she doesn’t think the box of chocolates were from me.”

Jaune Arc. The most HORRENDOUS example of a FUCKING KNIGHT.

Trigger warning for this being a drunk as hell post because I decided to drink after a long day of Valentines BS and wanting to make thi post to make one teensy weensy Jaune Stan mad.

Oh yes Rooster Teeth and CRWBY I'm gonna fuckin' shit all over your useless-ass knight character. Why? Because I fuckin' can. So eat a whole ass fucking dick.

So you know Jaune Arc from RWBY right? Literally the "knight character" of the series right. WELL FUCKIN' WRONG. Cause this knight is the example of "I Wanna Be the Main Character" syndrome and literally betrays everything that a knight is meant to do.

So as we know Jaune is meant to be a reference or referred by his naming convention to the actual JOAN OF ARC

Joan of Arc who is well known as history's most bravest female knight of all time. Who had managed to push back many British soldiers all while she received a vision from God in order to continue her rage against the British invaders during the Hundred Years War. Now if we're talking about the Arthurian Legend then this talk would be hella different.

Now starting things off. What pisses me off the most is why wasnt Jaune a fucking woman to kick things off. Like one of the most influential knights in human history being reduced to a secondary wannabe "I wanna be the MC" head-ass boy. Like not gonna lie it would have been much better if he was one cause it would have made a lot more sense if their semblance was seeing events before they happened which woulda made more sense and would have fit Jaune's historical illusion.

But naw. Make his semblance the generic. "I Need Healing" head-ass.

now this would mean that he would be following the Code of Chivalry which this useless-ass knight has failed in so many levels. Take note that there are two Code's of Chivalry one from the Song of Roland and one from the Arthurian Legend of King Arthur. and the following two state.

Immediately right off the bat we know for certain that Jaune does not respect the honor of women especially in Vol 9 where Ruby has a whole ass mental break down but Jaune says "Oooh I M THE MAIN CHARACTER! YOUR JUST A FUCKIN' BITCH AND YOU NEED TO LET ME HAVE THE SPOTLIGHT" like tell me that is immediately a massive fail especially when Jaune had respected Pyrrha so much so to the point where this man had multiple different arcs over the course of what. six fucking seasons and still has not gotten over her death. Now yes he did follow through with Penny's Idea.... which was a horrendous idea not gonna lie....

Dude shes fuckin' dead. MOVE ON WITH THE LESSONS SHE HAS TAUGHT YOU. YA FUCKIN' REDDIT MOD LOOKING HEAD-ASS!!!!

Next would have to be Honesty has he literally cheated to get in. Now I count this as a half fail. cause he did prove to have potential in the earlier seasons of RWBY but at the same time. He lied to get into Beacon Academy. which only made me think.... what did Monty cook up for him before Rooster Teeth and CRWBY fucked everything . Another would have to be Loyalty which is a hardcore fail. As he assisted RWBY (aka the four terrorists) into literally destroying an ENTIRE FUCKIING KINGDOM. Actually TWO if you're counting Mantle. Which is just fucking stupid cause this man would warn people and then suddenly everything has to focus around him like once again "Main Character Syndrome." instead of Ruby Rose who IS SUFFERING IN VOLUME NINE!!! Oh Oh Oh. but wait theres more.

but then when Ruby does the Unalive congo and everyone is shocked.. guess what everyone has to hug Jaune cause he is going through shit. When Ruby had it worse!!!

Aka The Four Dumb Fucks who wont realize their Leader just unalived themselves and they just hug the "Main Character Syndrome: Jaune who is going through it instead of mourning Ruby.

What is there in Honor for a man who barely can honor a friends death no less in the "possible afterlife"

Frank Frankly's Character Analysis !TW! Metal Health, M4ss4cr3, death

Eddie got his analysis so of course his husband would have one! (Fun Fact! despite Wally being the main character, Frank shows up in 18 outta 53 images!) fun facts outta the way, HERE WE GOOOO!!!

He likes Honesty and Truth - quote from his bio "He enjoys being frank, even if it means being Frank" i love this quote on his bio and this is the main reason they're my kin.

2. Frank is an Asperger? - Although he is confirmed to be autistic by @partycoffin , his personality makes him an Asperger (My tito has Aspergers so i know the gist of it). His official Bio points out his Bookworm Tendency, and his Grumpy attitude and that points it to Asperger Syndrome. So here's the traits

Resistance to or Obliviousness of Social Niceties, Blunt Honesty ("Frankness")

Non-Instinctual Facial Expression (his neutral face is a frown and not a smile like the others)

Comprehensive Academic Knowledge, with unique Specialist Subjects (Bookworm who loves Butterflies)

Periodic Emotional Volatility, "Meltdowns" (His Head Physically Spins when angry, to the point he is exhausted and dizzy; he also flaps his arms when excited)

Adherence to Formal/Traditional Decorum to navigate social situations (he has a few costume changes of his own, talk about that later)

Sensory Sensitivity and rigid dietary habits (Frank is shown making Green Gelatin Salad on two separate occasions, I'm guessing he likes the Color and Softness)

Anxious in otherwise Moderate Stress events (he was freakin out when carpooling with Wally)

Friends in different age groups (Poppy and Julie are confirmed as autistic so poppy might be older and julie maybe younger. i have friends a grade below me)

3. Entomologist job from a university??? - Y'all prolly already know this, Frank's love of butterflies isn't just a hobby non non, he is infact an entomologist, we can confirm this with the spinning head GIF, there's mounted butterfly specimens on his wall. Alright alright, Bug Collecting won't buy you a can of beans and traumatizing Howdy from the Bodega, UNLESS your an employee from a University to research the nearby Insect Wildlife. (It's not rlly mentioned in The Show but most of them have some sorta job) I think thats how Eddie reunited with Frank bcuz the university might be working in the military program Eddie enlisted in back in 1953. What is obvious is that This University MUST exist or frank and eddie wouldn't reunite.

4. Ethnicity Analysis Time!!!!! - Frank showed his ethnicity through his Valentines Card (thx frank!). Frank is wearing an Old-Time Safari Costume when catching Butterflies, but it's not just a stereotypical costume non non, the design is inspired by a VERY specific Uniform. he's wearing is a British Expedition Bush Jacket, topped with a matching Safari Pith Helmet, Light Tan Fabric of the Indian Variety. Although the card is in a pinkish hue, I can tell that the uniform is a tad bit lighter so its a Light Muslin Fabric. Yeah Sure, the British Invasion of the 60s revived the Shacket look for Women's Fashion, but Frank's pragmatic personality made it clear that he was issued that Expedition Uniform with Function planned in it. In addition with his Grey skin, Black hair and his iconic Unibrow, He is designed to look like The Stereotypical Depiction of a Gentleman Scientist of Hindoo Colonial Heritage or to simplified it, he came from Hindu / Indian origins.

5. Frank's Story - Frank Franklin was born in 1942 and was born Half Indian from his mother, He was fascinated with bugs and specifically Butterflies as they represent change and rebirth. He was teasedfor having his name as his last name (Have u guys even heard of Tweek Tweak?) even with his blunt honesty he made friends and even became childhood sweethearts with eddie. One day in Senior High, Eddie said that he was gonna enlist and may return 2 years later, Frank was worried as to add salt to the wound his soon to be Ex sunny became toxic and mean-spirited so ofc they broke up. 2 years later he was working as an Entomologist at St. Marioneta University (I made that up) and then he ran into Eddie, they were happy to see each other still okay so on an unknown date in 1969 they married in secret (THANKS ALOT TIME PERIOD D:<). months later in October 11 1969 a man named Ronald Dorelaine Isekai'd Frank, Eddie and some friends you know to the World of Welcome Home, but tragedy struck 4 years later, An event known as The Playfellow M4ss4cr3 killed the crew and the stars of the show but Dorelaine's body was not found and was reported MISSING and presumed dead, This marks the 50th year they were stuck in the void, Are they longing for Freedom or The Sweet release of DEATH?

Wanna hear a wholesome fun fact? In Hinduism, Butterflies are symbolic of birth, ancestry, marriage, deceased soul, death and divinity. No wonder why frank is so attached to Butterflies.

This week in Komi Can't Communicate:

Tomohito Oda beats a dead horse...

...and the girls gamble.

As a Valentines Day gift, Oda has given me a headache.

I'll split this report into two parts

The Rumikai stuff

The Girl Talk Meeting

So skip to the second half if you're sick of reading my opinions on Rumikai. You won't hurt my feelings, because I understand alksdnlaknsdlak

So, after last weeks train-wreck I made two attempts at interpreting what was going on between Rumiko and Wakai; my first in the main Komi Report, and my second in an additional post that I made after I'd had time to reflect on the chapter and hear other people's thoughts. For brevity I'll assume you've read those.

Turns out I was sort of half right the first time, and half right the second. Rumiko was planning to turn him down...

...but was waiting until after the big soccer game. Then, when Wakai made his declaration, she said "uh-huh" because she was happy about it, and apparently couldn't resist.

What an absolute stinker.

Wakai's declaration was a poor thing to do for the following reasons:

It put immense pressure on Rumiko, who had explicitly told Wakai that she was feeling conflicted and needed time and space to think so she could give him a clear answer when she was ready

Wakai's choice of words was far too intense. "I play for you now" and "be mine forever" are insane things to say to a girl you barely know and with whom you aren't involved romantically

(A brief aside; mind that it's perfectly fine for characters in stories to do bad things and make bad choices. I lay out Wakais sins not to criticize him as a person, but to criticize the narrative choices Oda made in constructing and representing these events.)

However, as I initially thought, Oda does want the audience to view the declaration as straightforwardly romantic. Does he think this is what girls want?

Big declarations like this are common in romantic media - speeding to the airport to catch them before they board the plane, crashing through the window to stop the wedding, etc - and it can be very romantic, but only when the narrative is constructed properly. The characters involved need to actually like.... be in love. As well, there need to be outside factors that are preventing them from being together. That way, the declaration of love comes across as "we're in love and I won't let anything take you away from me" rather than what we have here, which is "I'm attempting to force you into a relationship by overwhelming you suddenly".

This plot-line is so severely undeveloped and mismanaged that Wakai just comes across as creepy and uncomfortably intense. Which could have been interesting if that had been the intention, but obviously it isn't. The fact that Rumiko is written to have enjoyed it and still might like Wakai makes me so frustrated I'll need to lie down after this. Oda also wrote the other girls to be all for it...

Sasaki and Kato would never endorse this.

I won't mince words; this whole thing reeks of misogyny. Reeks of it. I'm not joking nor am I being hyperbolic. There is the distinct odor of misogyny through this whole thing. Oda has a confusing track record when it comes to writing women; sometimes he's remarkable, other times he's about average for a shōnen mangaka (which is to say; bad). This is the worst he's ever done, in my opinion.

Not only that, but this apparently isn't even the climax of this story. Oda is still dragging his feet on the will-they-won't-they question. Rumiko is still conflicted. Pardon my language, but for fucks sake. Please let this end.......

If I had to guess, I'd say this dead horse will likely be beaten all the way to the end of the series. The love triangle spanned their entire second year (which was great because the love triangle ruled). To me, this plot appears to be the third year equivalent and will follow the same structure. Fucking huzzah.

Honestly, with any future Rumikai chapters I may just skip them. it depends on whether anything worth talking about happens, but I predict that any further developments will just be the same old thing. I'm thoroughly tired of them and I don't expect I'll have anything else to add. But we'll burn that bridge when we get to it.

I've been really looking forward to the Girl Talk meeting about the TadaKomi kiss ever since that happened. It's unfortunate that a certain wet blanket was thrown over the whole thing, but I'm still determined to enjoy the fun bits of these chapters. So without further ado, let's let our hair down and have some fun:

I would have bet my gummies on mint; if someone is anticipating their first kiss, it's likely they'll have a mint beforehand so their breath doesn't smell. My first kiss tasted like fried chicken and orange fanta, because that's what she and I had been eating beforehand.

alsdnlajsdnklajsdnajsdajkd wait a minute... when did Ase have her first kiss? That's new information!!!! How exciting!!!!

Girl I want to know the end of that sentence.

It says "the end" there, which is confusing. But it also says this is only the beginning of the investigation, so hopefully next week will continue it. We need to hear the story of Ase and Naruses first kiss. I like those two, so I'm keen for that.

Parting thoughts; there were bits to enjoy in these chapters, but they lie in the shadow of something truly dreadful. Hopefully we'll get more of the Girl Talk meeting next week, but there's also sure to be a chapter about Wakai's perspective on the soccer game event sooner or later. I'm feeling drained.....

when you dislike the MC of a good series AKA Who Will Die in The Wicked Powers

damn, being petty enough to flip off the MC x canon ship in my (favorite) fandom is really kicking me in the ass--

yeah, basically I can't touch half the TSC stuff on Tumblr bc I'm so anti-Clace...(meanwhile I love literally every other character that's been in every Shadowhunter series)...& they're probably gonna have a wedding + kids in the next books (assuming Jace isn't killed)...

The Wicked Powers is most definitely gonna have the Princes of Hell as the main villains. I feel like Luke, Gwyn, or Izzy will die, since the younger Shadowhunters are supposed to be central & well...look at the couples who will be alive/extant by TWP:

Jace already died once. Clary had dreams about dying, but those were shown to be visions of Thule. Based on canon events, I think they're Clare's favorite ship. SAFE.

Magnus almost gave himself to Asmodeus in CoHF. Alec almost-ish died saving Magnus in The Eldest Curses. Also, Alec almost died thanks to that poison demon in TMI (the one Magnus saved him from). Malec might end up forced to rule some region of Hell (reason unknown but I think it'll have to do with them beating/destroying Asmodeus). I feel like past events foreshadow Magnus dealing with the unfortunate sides of being a warlock. But he won't die--the "killing your gays" trope might actually save he & Alec.

Simon nearly died when the vampires attacked him (when he was a mundane), then when Valentine bled him pre-Daylighter (then Jace's blood saved him). He "sacrificed" himself to Asmodeus CoHF, in the form of his vampire immortality + memories (which he basically got back later on). Izzy...she's been through a lot psychologically & about as much as I think most Shadowhunters would physically. She lost Max & her dad. But she's a badass (I'm not faulting her for it, either). So I don't think she's safe.

Julian & Emma both lost their parents in horrible ways. Their whole series was about the parabatai curse (which, to me, was conveniently not mentioned in chronologically earlier series...probably because it wasn't invented til TDA was written, lol). They're kinda written to be the leaders of Livvy's Watch. SAFE.

Kit has his whole faerie power reveal shit to explore & he + Ty are some of the major characters in TWP. I'm pretty sure they'll spend the series healing their relationship. SAFE.

Kieran/Cristina/Mark will survive because 1) Kieran as the Unseelie King is an important Shadowhunter ally, 2) they're poly rep in YA, which is rare, and 3) killing one of them off would leave the others to mourn in such a weird way. SAFE.

I love Dru Blackthorn. She's one of the main of TWP, so I think she'll survive, plus tbh I don't think any more Blackthorns will be killed. Ash will probably end up as the Seelie King or as Clace's adopted son, to "redeem" Sebastian in a narrative sense. Jaime's sort of a main for TWP as one of Dru's love interests. SAFE.

Diana & Gwyn aren't main characters (though I like their romance). Diana also is the ONLY transgender person in all the books (unless I missed something). I don't think she'll be killed off. Gwyn might be just because I see the Wild Hunt as an important group in TWP & he might die protecting Diana (narratively, this shows strengthened faerie-Shadowhunter relations, despite the Wild Hunt being unaffiliated with either Court).

Luke & Jocelyn deserve to be endgame, but I could see Luke being killed off as one of those "MC's loved one is killed so the MC goes & avenges them" type of things. I love Luke & Jocelyn as characters, though.

Tessa & Jem deserve to be endgame, arguably, more than any couple. They were the mains in their series, then Jem survived but was sort-of-"lost" when he became a Silent Brother. Then he miraculously became a (mortal) Shadowhunter again when he was burned by heavenly fire, he just left the Clave behind to hang with Tessa (good choice!). Tessa has a baby & she's gonna suffer enough when she outlives Jem. SAFE?

Zen giggled, circling Victoria as they walked the halls of Night Raven. “Whoever this secret admirer is, Tori, they sure seem to admire you!”

Victoria sighed, a soft smile on her lips. “Now, let's not make any assumptions, Zen,” she dismissed, bringing another piece of chocolate into her mouth. “Although I will say their taste in chocolate is impeccable.”

Zen could only snicker, endeared by his best friend's fondness for sweets.

“Well, whoever they are, they're definitely treating you right!”

“Perhaps, so.”

“Don't you ever wish you could meet them eventually?...”

Victoria thought about that possibility for a quick moment, sitting down against the tree in the main courtyard.

“I haven't thought much of it, really. However, if I do somehow meet them-”

Anything else Victoria was going to say after that had to be cut short, as a familiar face came their way.

Melanie Charmant was a perplexing topic of conversation — at least, in the eyes of Victoria Shard. Zen didn't think much of Melanie, not much to be said, simply saying she was ‘nice’.

“Zen!” Melanie sighed with relief, panting so heavily she looked like she had run a marathon. “Thank God I found you…”

“Aww, did little Miss Charmant miss me?” Zen chuckled, standing up from beside Victoria to stand beside Melanie, using his magic to give Melanie a bit of a ‘cooldown’.

“You look rather parched,” Victoria pointed out once she finished chewing on her chocolate. “Are you alright?”

Melanie felt her face heat up, taking a step back and almost stumbling.

It was obvious to everyone — perhaps even to Victoria — that Melanie may or may not fancy the ice queen of Pomefiore.

That, at least, made Zen pity her. Poor girl was so obvious she almost fell to the ground at the realization Victoria was there the entire time.

“S-Sorry, Victoria! I… I didn't notice you were there,” Melanie laughed awkwardly, scratching the back of her neck with an equally awkward smile.

Victoria hummed, rather puzzled by Melanie's behavior. “It's fine.”

“Ahahaha- Anyways! Mel,” Zen turned to Melanie with an enthusiastic grin. Perhaps a bit too enthusiastic.

“Do you need anything?”

“Uh- Well…” Melanie's stiff little smile remained, feeling quite discomforted by the fact Victoria was listening.

For obvious reasons, it was clear that Zen understood her stiffness. Victoria seemed to take her nervousness as a memo to give her and Zen their privacy, and promptly stood up.

“I'll leave you two to your own devices.”

Zen pouted. “Aw man, really?”

“I have a lot on my schedule today, Zen.”

“Can't you stay a couple more minutes longer?”

“As much as I'd love to, I have a busy work schedule, Zen.”

Zen chortled. “Does that work schedule consist of you trying to outdo a certain housewarden?”

Victoria's eyes narrowed, and she only gave Zen's forehead a brief poke. “Not the point.”

He chuckled. “Fine,” he embraced her. Melanie noted that Zen was akin to a koala with the way he clung to Victoria.

Amused beyond belief, Victoria gently gave him a pat on the head, returning his embrace with a soft smile.

Melanie found herself getting even more flustered when her gaze flickered to Victoria's smile. She always looks so pretty when she smiles…

Victoria bid Melanie and Zen farewell before walking away with a black box of chocolate in tow.

Melanie drew out a breath, eyes softening further as her crush walked away without another word.

Her attention soon shifted back to Zen when the latter clapped his hands to grab her attention. Well, at the very least, he was successful.

“So! Mel,” he placed his hands on his hips with an encouraging smile, “what can I do for you?”

“Huh-? O-Oh, right!” Melanie composed herself, clearing her throat and putting her hands behind her back. “I've been.. Wanting to ask you something about Victoria?”

Zen's eyebrows shot up. “Tori?” He cocked his head to the side. “Well, I mean I could, but she was just here earlier, why didn't you ask her then?”

Melanie frowned, looking down. She knew that Zen knew why, that he was just trying to be nice by pretending not to know the most obvious crush in Night Raven College.

Hesitating for a moment, Melanie fiddled with her hands behind her back, trying to find the right words to use.

“I was thinking… Does Victoria like sweets?”

Zen laughed. “Of course! Y'know, a lot of people don't know this, but her sweet tooth is actually insane,” he wrapped an arm around Melanie. “She has a whole pantry in her room, it's wild.”

“Huh,” Melanie was pleasantly surprised by this new piece of information. “Does she like chocolate in general, or…?”

“All kinds,” Zen answered swiftly. “However, if you ask me, she's the most fond of milk chocolate. Especially milk chocolate chip cookies.”

“That's…”

“Unexpected? Sure, but Tori's always had a soft spot for sweets!”

So she likes chocolate….

Based on the look in her eyes, Melanie Charmant was on a mission to brighten her crush's day and she'd be damned if she were unsuccessful.

It was a meticulous piece of work, honestly.

Yuuta judged her a bit for it, but Melanie was determined to make the perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe to impress Victoria.

She didn't know the woman all that much, and in all honesty, she barely understood why she had a crush on her, to begin with.

But Melanie just felt this undying spark every time she and Victoria happened to look into each other's eyes, and her heart seemingly bursts then and there!

“Geez, Mel, you're gonna keep making this perfect?” Yuuta walked into the kitchen being an almost complete mess, and he scrunched his nose. Especially when he looked at Melanie.

In her cute ruffled apron, Melanie was decked head to toe in flour and was emitting the smell of melted chocolate all over her body.

“Oh-! Hi Yuuta!” Melanie greeted, giving her roommate a quick wave before shaping the cookies with her cookie cutters.

Yuuta rolled his eyes, walking to the pantry. “You sure you don't need any help there, Missy?”

“I'm fine,” Melanie insisted. Although Yuuta could see the slight anxiety as she prepped the cookies to bake in the oven.

He frowned, holding the poor girl by her chin and wiping away some flour off her face.

“You need to stop stressing out,” Yuuta told her, sighing to himself in disapproval. “I'm sure Shard's gonna like the cookies.”

“But I need them to be perfect, Yuuta,” Melanie remained persistent in her little ‘quest’.

“Missy,” Yuuta flicked her forehead, his frown deepening on his face.

“It's gonna be fine. Stop freaking out about it.”

“But-”

“Look, I get that you have a crush on her or something, but it's gonna work out.”

For a moment, Melanie just stood there, letting Yuuta's words simmer in her mind.

Would it work out? Sure, Melanie knew she had feelings for Victoria. That she fancied her and her gorgeous hair, her cat-like eyes, her… Everything.

But she had no way of knowing Victoria felt the same way.

And it hurt her to know of that fact.

But maybe Yuuta had a point.

Maybe, just maybe, she didn't need to worry so much. That Victoria will actually like her gift and that all her anxieties were for nothing.

“... Okay.”

Now, as much as Melanie wanted to take Yuuta's half-assed advice to heart, she really didn't wanna risk facing rejection from Victoria from giving her the cookies.

So, the young Queen of Genovia devised a plan: A little before Victoria went to her first period, Melanie would head to her classroom and place her box of cookies on Victoria's desk.

She giggled a bit, feeling rather giddy. I hope she likes it..

Melanie left the classroom and felt enough within herself to watch Victoria from a distance and see her reaction.

In full truth, Victoria did love the gift in the end.

But what Melanie didn't come to notice earlier was the small bouquet of roses and a note from an anonymous admirer that happened to be beneath the desk.

An admirer that wasn't her.

I did not wake up to rio's route announced. I am gonna make onw last pre route rant so buckle up

[Know what? Fuck it I'm summoning the Rio haters I need someone else's input on this cuz i am like. Obviously biased and wearing rose coloured glasses @vivifucksthevillian @violettduchess ]

Cuz something occurred to me

The Fundamental...underlying dynamic of Rio and Emma's relationship changes depending on if you're in his route or not.

Like I've been mad about the lack of rio before but now I've realised some of it is because of that fundamental aspect.

All the way back when i first opened the app and read the prologue, Emma says "I've accepted that true love is something I'll never have for myself" (or smt like that) and the very next thing I see is Rio. And He brought me food he made and is offering to watch the store so I can go look at stuff around the town and if you're me you think "???? BITCH THE FUCK YOU WAITING FOR??? HE'S RIGHT THERE! HOW'S HE NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU!?" and then i learn about the amnesia and I'm like "oh.red flag. Understandable."

Now. The way that that line's meaning specifically changes in Hindsight depending on if you're in Rio's route or not is that in Rio's route, It's a mutual crush with both of them holding back. (They literally give each other special made chocolate on Valentine's day but no they are not dating or anything) in other routes, it's Rio having a one sided crush.

I only remember reading one translation of one early scene in Rio's route that also makes clear this distinction and makes it clear that Emma also has intrusive crush thoughts about Rio.

I'm talking about that time they were drinking tea and catching each other staring and Emma thinking to herself that Rio's pretty and then catching herself like "but I'm NOT falling in love or anything"

I cannot recall any of this nuance in someone else route event or main. But the again there aren't... A lot of other characters I would rush to play the event route of.

I feel like this does a bit of a disservice to Rio's character because it's ONE thing when it's him having an required crush and Emma's like "i just like him as a friend" and ANOTHER when she's like "i might have a little crush but I. Literally don't know anything about where he's from and it's been 3 years and nothing's happened, he's always looking after me but he doesn't really open up to me and I don't wanna possibly ruin our friendship so should I jist get over it?"

And idk. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ᵐᵃʸᵇᵉ she felt like that at some point in other timelines but got over it by the point where the story starts but she doesn't in rio's cuz it's ♥*♡∞:｡.｡t r u e l o v e ｡.｡:∞♡*♥

But we never get an indication EITHER way. Like like they hanged out together on valentines and christmas for 3 years I do not remember them mentioning in other events if that still HAS happened or not. (Someone please comfirm or deny this) Their interactions are mostly kept on surface level except for a look Rio gives here and there and Emma's like "i have literally never seen that look on your face before what the fuck does that mean" which I guess... Makes sense... The prologue has to be a neutral zone, and her character changes slightly depending on who's route you're in cuz cybird has learned to think about what kinda woman the suitor would fall for AND what kinda woman would fall for each suitor (gestures to the literally masterpiece that is Clavis' route) and also there's info they keep close to the chest and save it for the route. If they added more hints like that they'd run the risk of making MC unreletable cuz.... *chuckles* instead of having me go "where's rio?" "IT'S NOT EVEN HIS ROUTE" you'd have others go "Here's Rio" "IT'S NOT EVEN HIS ROUTE" (as if Chev's route doesn't have moments that is literally like "Here's Clavis" "IT'S NOT EVEN HIS ROUTE") and " yeah no that wouldn't be me. I wouldn't have a crush on Rio cuz I hate him/i only see him as a friend.

BUT I STILL FEEL LIKE IT HURTS RIO'S IMAGE AND IT PISSES ME OFF SORRY IF YOU DON'T LIKE HIM BUT-

*slaps table* It makes him come off as more pushy than he actually is. Like yeah he's a simp and a deredere bUT-

in Rio's Christmas event, which is in his POV, Nokto literally points out how despite how obviously whipped he is for Emma and how he says he loves her all the time he hasn't REALLY made a proper move on her. He hasn't tried his luck. He had Emma almost all to himself for 3 YEARS AND DID NOTHING (mood tho). Rio contemplates to himself how he cannot remember anything from before met Emma but he gets this very bad feeling that if he ever gets his memory back he will ne torn away from her and. It would be unfair to her.

These occasions, that are supposed to be for lovers, are also when he thinks about how one day Emma will have a lover and she will spending this time with him and he will lose her. Like. That's just. An inevitability to him. (Abandonment issues is a bitch)

RIO NEVER SHOOTS HIS SHOT. NOT REALLY. *blantantly ignores silvio's route cuz idk wtf went down there* He always eventually backs down and lets her be with whoever Emma choses! He's more okay with some of the suitors than others ( "i cannot be mad at Prince Yves, he's a nice guy" vs *strained angry smile* "You're telling me King Chevalier has not contacted you for a whole week since you've been to see him and confess your undying love-" *he gives his blessing after Chev does his grand gesture*)

HE FEELS GUILT OVER THE SLIGHTEST COURTING GESTURE HE DOES LIKE "i have no right to push my feelings onto her like that"

And here's the real kicker, EMMA INVITED HIM TO SPEND CHRISTMAS WITH HIM. These, and others, are things that Emma has done to befriend him and make him feel welcomed in a foreign land, where he had no family or memories. That's all after she literally saved his life despite being a complete stranger. No wonder he's whipped.

BUT HE NEVER SHOOTS HIS SHOT cuz he's afraid of losing even the friendship he already has. He doesn't go "here are my feelings. You are my whole world and I love" CUZ HE THINKS THOSE WOULD BE A BURDEN

and I have to sit here like. Who hurt you? I want names. He's literally like a puppy who got abandomed in the street and now he has abandomed issues. It extends to how he only wants her to see his good side too as if being anything other than happy go lucky and helpful is a crime

AND IDK GUYS IF I LIKE. HAD A BEST FRIEND THAT I HANGED OUT WITH ON CHRISTMAS AND SUCH I FEEL LIKE I WOULD. NOT JUST FORGET ABOUT THEM ONCE I HAVE A BF. I KNOW EMMA CAN GET TUNNER VISION BUT I ALSO FEEL LIKE I'M NOT ASKING FOR TOO MUCH HERE. WE DON'T EVEN GET A "I'm finally spending christmas/valentines with someone other than Rio"

I can only hope that it can occur to Rio to take a "well. She would have fallen for me if it was meant to be" view but idk man... I feel like crying for him...

Oh and Rio's route is literally the only one where i don't get to complain "but it's kinda unrealistic. I definitely would never fall in love with someone in one month" cuz actually. Taking 3 years to get a crush on someone sounds painfully realistic to me.....

Valentine's Day was right around the corner and Hawkins - which usually had some unexplained, event happening that seemed strange to the residents who were in the dark about the monsters that once wreaked havoc, didn't have to worry about eerie occurrences happening anymore.

In fact, Hawkins had returned to a normal, boring town since the Upside Down was finally closed for good.

So this Valentine's was a little special, epically for those who fought to make Hawkins safe again and prevented the monsters from taking over.

Eddie Munson who had survived an attack by demobats and other creatures from The Upside Down had only one thing on his mind.

He had fallen in love for the first time and he was planning on how to tell the woman he had fallen for.

Her name was yn and back in High Schook they were at opposite ends of the social ladder but she seemed to never partake in the way her friends would react when he was near.

Never did she think him playing D&D was freaky or weird, no. She was sweet and kind and had pretty eyes... Shit!

Now he was getting off track.

He had been poring over making a Valentine's Day card for her and wanted to make something special.

Many outlines and practice drawings lay crumpled on the floor and he was growing frustrated.

Taking a breath he imagined what she would like the most, something romantic but not too cheesy. Jesus H Christ, why was confessing how he felt so hard?

Maybe he could ask Steve for some advice. For a second he entertains the idea but then dismisses it, no the idea had to come from him.

It's finally around midnight when he has the idea to draw her as a badass princess facing down an evil dragon, she had expressed interest in D&D a few times and so he made the drawing as a character based on her.

Smiling he signs the inside.

She didn't expect anything for Valentine's Day, sure she may have been secretly hoping Eddie sent her something but she wasn't even sure if he liked her like she liked him.

He was flirty with her, yes but he never seemed to realize when she was flirting with him.

So when there was a rapt knock on her door and she opened it to find a card, a bunch of wildflowers and a red rose she was stunned.

No one was around and she didn't hear the telltale sign of Eddie's van driving away so it wasn't him. The thought makes her sad but someone had taken the time to do this and it was sweet of them.

There's a note pinned to the card on the flowers, it reads. Meet me at Lovers Lake at Seven.

Excitement builds inside her and she is curious to see who it is. A tiny part of her still hopes it could be Eddie.

Tonight she will find out for sure.

Candles are lit, Eddie has picked more wildflowers for yn but he's nervous as he waits for her to arrive.

What if she doesn't like him back? That's his main worry. He's shit scared that she doesn't feel the way he does for her.

They are friends, yeah but it doesn't stop him being nervous.

When she does arrive and her eyes widen at all the flowers he approaches her and shyly hands out the bunch he's hand-picked for her.

"Surprise, Happy Valentines Princess" she beams and takes the flowers from him, her happiness gives him hope.

"Eddie, this is so sweet of you, all of this. The flowers, the card. I loved the card"

He relaxes, it feels like a weights has been lifted off him.

"So Princess. Will you be my Valentine?" she giggles and kisses him, he's stunned for a second then kisses her back.

The kiss is everything he's ever dreamed of and he tightens his hold on her then when she pulls away he gestures to the blanket on the ground.

"Thought we could star gaze, be romantic you know?" she nods and intertwines her fingers with hers.

"Yes, I'd love that Eddie and yes I'll be your Valentine" 🌹

Residency, Year Two:

Charley was logged onto the computer at the nurses’ station nearest the diagnostics office. She was entering notes for her cases, while alternately looking down the hall. She was surprised when the lights were turned off and Ethan stepped out into the hall, pulling the door shut behind him. He had his briefcase in one hand, and was holding his phone to his ear with the other.

As he got closer, she overheard the very end of his conversation right before he hung up. “I know I said I’d go, but I didn’t realize it was Valentine’s day when I agreed to go out with her!” He dropped his phone in his pocket and froze as he saw Charley. She quickly averted her eyes from him and back to the computer.

“Dr. Valentine, did you get the test results back on Mr. Barnett?”

She nodded. “I took care of it. Baz was right, so he’s taking care of him right now.”

Ethan nodded, and shoved his hand through his hair. “So I don’t need to stay? I’m happy to cancel my plans.”

Charley shook her head. “Baz and June have it under control. I’ll be leaving myself soon.”

“Do you have plans?” Ethan asked, not sure whether he was hoping she would or wouldn’t. He knew wanting her to not have plans was unfair as he insisted on a reset.

“Yes, I do.” She logged off the computer and gave him a tight smile. “I need to run. See you tomorrow, Dr. Ramsey.”

After turning away from Ethan, Charley hurried to the stairs, bypassing the elevator. She hurried down to the staff locker room to shower and change. Soon she met Aurora and Sienna in the atrium. Jackie was notably missing. “I hope I’m not too late.”

Aurora smiled and shook her head. “Right on time. We have plenty of time for our reservations.” She held up her car keys. “Let’s go!”

The host greeted them when they arrived and soon they were seated near the terrace. Sienna laughed. “I figured since we were a group of three on Valentine’s day, we’d be shoved into a corner!”

Aurora grinned. “It helps since I’ve known the owner and chef since first grade.”

A smiling waiter appeared, with three glasses of water. “Good evening, ladies. Do you have any questions about the menu?”

Aurora shook her head. “I think we’re ready for the started. Madeline recommended a seafood tower and sauvignon blanc to start. Is that okay?”

Charley and Sienna looked at each other and nodded. “If the chef is recommending it, I’ll try it.”

The ladies had finished their starter and ordered their main courses, salmon for Charley, Chilean sea bass for Aurora, and roasted lamb for Sienna. They had laughed, reminiscing about prior Valentine’s days. Aurora took a sip of her wine. “Oh, I don’t think someone is having a good date tonight.” She gestured toward a table by the fireplace. “I think that’s a friend of Aunt Harper’s. Tina something? Tina Richards.”

Sienna and Charley looked over. Tina was frowning at her date. Sienna agreed. “She doesn’t look happy.”

Aurora frowned, trying to remember. “Harper said she just moved to Boston. She’s looking for a fresh start after a divorce. Harper has been setting her up on blind dates.”

Charley gave a cursory glance at the table and then focused on the man. She would recognize the jaw anywhere. “Ethan.” She didn’t even realize she’d spoken aloud.

“It is!” Aurora said.

Sienna looked at Charley. “Are you okay?” she mouthed to Charley, who nodded.

This next morning Ethan was surprised when he got to the diagnostic office. Charley was already there with a cup of coffee form Derry’s. “Good morning, Dr. Valentine.”

She looked up from the latest issue of the NEMJ. “Hello, Ethan.” She nodded to a second Derry cup on his desk. “I brought you coffee.”

He picked up the cup and took a drink. “How was your… how was your… evening last night?”

Charley stared at the words in the magazine. “It was a lot of fun.” She turned to look at him. “How about you?”

Ethan opened his laptop and turned to face it. “Mine was not what I was expecting.”

Charley turned back to her magazine and Ethan pulled up a file on his computer, both thinking about how their evening could have gone better if they were with different people.

anyway taking a break from other aus because i've been thinking about my fallout au a lot lately! i'm currently building Eventer in fallout 4 to get pic refs but that'll take me quite some time. for now, an updated version of the au framework!

i wrote this: "since we have joe, bk, and ky now i have to add them! i think bk and ky were traveling together for awhile, both of them being from a recently opened vault. joe i think is someone from a different settlement that takes a shine to michael and follows him to Eventer." in a different post but i already want to change that so *scribbles over it* REDO god this au has so many retcons already

gavin is not a vault dweller, he is a mr. handy who was put into a synth body (like curie) this explains his british accent and also i think it just fits. i have a wip of a fanfic of them doing the procedure to transfer him into the synth body that maybe one day i'll finish and post here, who knows.

YOU KNOW I GOTTA ADD THE NEWBIES <33 it will be very hard for me to not make joe "guy who gets inexplicably attached to michael and follows him everywhere" in every single au i make but for this i think joe might be a vault dweller (for reference, jeremy and previously gavin before i retconned him were the only vault dwellers) i just think being a vault dweller can give you that kind of new baby but quickly learning the ropes feel that joe has for me still

bk is definitely a shop owner or caravaner that eventually just moved in because she made so many friends. she has such a big and friendly personality i really see her making a lot of social connections and being on good terms with most people who caravan or have stores. i think in eventer she runs a weapons store!

ky i can see as almost like, the unofficial mayor of eventer. she brings everyone together and makes the community closer! she's great at organizing events (heh) remembering important things about what the community needs or wants, ect. she isnt "in charge" as no one really has all the power, but i think her jack and trevor are the ones most respected and who people go to when they need a town wide decision made.

speaking of, i decided i wanted to have trevor and alfredo sort be what valentine is and make them detectives! i want to incorporate more red web vibes in my aus and fallout is a perfect place for that as there are canonically aliens and cryptids in the fallout universe, as well as. you know. murder and such.

as far as who lives together and their roles in the community the updated version would be:

michael and lindsay live together and run a general goods store and as such are involved in trade with other towns and farms nearby. lindsay is a ghoul in this au btw. because i couldn't not make someone a ghoul and i think ghouls are fucking badass so its them, as the most badass person in ah.

gavin lives alone but has several cats. he is the doctor and runs a small clinic out of his home.

jack lives alone and is the radio dj! mostly playing music but also settlement wide announcements when necessary and covering the news ect, like most fallout radio djs do.

trevor and alfredo live together and run a detective agency. when they don't have any cases, trevor builds stuff to help the community and alfredo picks up guard duty rounds as he is one of their most competent with a gun.

matt and jeremy live together! matt works with their livestock (which is just a handful of brahmin and also a radstaag they cant get to leave) while jeremy is more of the "main character" since i made this au because of him, so he goes off an adventures the most. of course he comes back at least every 2 days because of his cats! who if you'll remember, are an eye bot (zipper), a tiny securiton (booker), and 3 real cats.

bk and ky live together - bk runs a weapons story which i am electing right now to call Friendly Fire because thats their team name but also it FITS SO WELL OMG - anyway ky helps with this sometimes when she's not busy planning a cookout, or helping matt set up something for the animals, or giving jack news updates to talk about ect.

EDIT I FORGOT TO ADD JOE: joe lives alone and i think is the head guard like he patrols and keeps the town safe bc its very open. he also delegates patrolling schedules ect. cannot stress enough how he is not a cop tho. he is guarding the town from mole rats and raiders not arresting ppl for crimes.

Did you enjoy the Valentines episode of The Rookie yesterday? Did you like the chenford content we got?

Popular question! I have thoughts.

Generally speaking, I liked the episode. I thought the story lines were great, I loved the "found family" vibe, I am very interested in Celina's murdered sister story, I laughed at all the couples having fights on Valentines Day, and I loved the Chenford content we got.

My big complaints/issues. I'll address these first and then move onto what I loved.

one - I want more smooches between Tim and Lucy. Even a quick kiss here or there would be great. I don't need tons of sex scenes - there are a couple of fan fic writers who have that shit locked down. I can get any variety of smut on AO3.

two - while the main action stories were good and interesting, they weren't great. There was a lack of urgency and excitement (a/k/a "oomph") in both the Ebola and the sarin gas story lines. The episode could have been better in that regard. I felt like these stories were "scratching the surface" of the topics.

three - as usual they were cramming 4+ stories into a single episode instead of focusing on just 2-3. Trying to include everything left a lot of unanswered questions and dangling storylines. Whether or not they are addressed in future episodes remains to be seen, but we don't have that many episodes left this season.

Now for what I really enjoyed about the episode.

+ I totally get why Bailey was mad at John. Him swooping in to save the day was annoying. That said, I want to hire him for the next time I have to call my mail-order-prescription delivery service. 9 times out of 10 I end up yelling at the imbecile who is not taking notes during our conversation and not expediting the order. I would love for him to just handle that for me.

+ I loved the Chenford content we got. I've basically wiped out all of my expectations for these two fictional characters, so I am always grateful and surprised at what new tidbits we get in an episode. We now know that Tim sometimes sleeps in a shirt - why god why! - and that he defers to let Lucy sleep on HIS side of the bed. Tim's a romantic that somehow found time between his new demanding job and Lucy to go jewelry shopping!!! He's a bigtime softie - especially for Lucy. He basically let her off the hook for keeping him in the dark by accepting her non-apology. they have an active, active sex life requiring fuel for extended sessions, they go out to eat as much as they eat in, Tim notices her outfits. Tin got them a reservation out on the busiest restaurant day of the year. Lucy flirted with other men at UC School. Lucy was first in her class at UC School. I'd bet $$ that Noah hit on Lucy and she turned him down - not because of Chris, but because of Tim. Lucy openly touches Tim now. And many more juicy tidbits.

+ I liked that all the couples were fighting. I personally am not a Valentine's Day fan. I think it's a stupid event to generate sales for multiple industries. but whatever. One of the writers is an Alias fan with the Charlie Bristow character. Another secret sister to Sidney. Hello! + I am very interested to see where things go with Celina's sister's murder. I thought it was a little pompous of Nolan to pre-screen the file for her. But as she is his trainee, I guess it makes some kind of sense.

I loved the found family random conversation generator event on open mic.

I loved that grumpy Tim, and slightly jealous confused Tim was back.

I am glad they found a way for Tim to ride with Lucy - they have such a great rapport.

But there are some issues lurking in the darkness and which likely will pop up again before the end of the season:

Tim stressing about not being able to handle multiple calls. How does he manage that? Metro still has the potential as a stressor on this relationship. We need more information about what Tim heard and what people are saying about Lucy's maneuvers.

If Lucy was #1 in her UC Academy Class - you can bet she was recruited as an UC officer right out of the gate. Why didn't she go that way, why did she go back to patrol? She and Chris were still together at that point.

The whole UC career thing will be a stressor - what happens when Lucy is offered or asked to go on a long term assignment. We know Dm/Jake comes back. Will Juicy? Will she have to stay under for longer time without him? What will that do to their relationship? Won't be as hard now as later when kids are involved but could cause some stress for Tim.

Chris Sanford comes back next episode - I'm guessing because he's the only DA left who can prosecute Elijah. I'm also guessing there won't be any Chenford angst there. too much action other places to focus on that.

But generally speaking, I'm happy. and if I wasn't? I'd either rewatch one of the earlier episodes, or read through the 2500+ fan fic stories on AO3. Plenty of stories abound to make me happy, not all of them visual, on tv, or on Tuesday nights.

bruh a real one step forward five million steps back moment fr. we had samurai remnant (fun and enjoyable crossover event. only downside is only now i find out robot mozart and yui have the same voice actor and i aquiesced to not rolling her bc she wouldnt come home and now i am full of regret. tho to be fair robot mozart happened long after the event lol), valentines (awesome new servant! andromeda is cute and i feel completely neutral but not negative on the take on her character! charon was cool too), and white day (usually i am so irritated at the cut ins but charly is so good natured and honest i cant be mad at him. he just feels like the good energetic boy coming in to check on you every morning. and cyrano is just so peak -pacha meme- the rest of the cast was wonderful too). but then. oh then. you had to just fucking do main story stuff. like yea sure some cringily fanservice power level edge thing with d antes and j alter is inevitable and whatever. but bring sal into it??????? only to not give him fucking anything????? and then permanently delete him, lobo, and any other half tolerable avenger (angra ig. or kuroe?) bc the edgey op fanservice characters need their wangst. ugh. the plot isnt even out but i imagine its something like- sal is typecast into himself and hates every second of it, moz bullies him bc its moz and the feeling is mutual, but evil marie takes advantage of it and him and the fandom reads it as cute. same w d antes or j alter and him. im so done w their reaction to the trio it makes me just disgusted. if the two of them treated him better id be more on board but they dont. just bc sal believes theyre on the same wavelength doesnt mean its some cute fluffy nonsense you can just slice of life. i think it cuts personal bc ive believed to be on the same wavelength of others and thats why im so fucked up today is bc of what happened there. and above all i dont want sal to have to go through that sort of suffering, esp on top of all his other suffering.

also if i had a nickel for every time a fictional somewhat m arie a ntoinette has ruined the life of my favorite dead composer character i would have two nickles which is weird that it happened twice.

ricky seems to not be dead. i am so hoping hes secretly a ghost. like imagine if hes in the like reconstructed research vessel and then at the end is like "lol im not exactly alive lol" like that poke mon episode. i would lose it. tho if hes like cursed or something it makes me think of that kingdom hearts scene which i also find really funny.
