The Arena

A Peaky Blinders x Hunger Games crossover

Tribute: Nina Ferrante • District: 9 • Age: 18 • Victor of the 71st edition of the Hunger Games

THE STRUCTURE

🔪 The Arena of the 71st edition of the Hunger Games is a rainforest. It has a waterfall and other sources of water, but not all of them are harmless: in some lakes/ponds/rivers the water has some sort of acid component that burns the tributes’s skin (or throat, if they drink it). There are both edible and venomous berries.

🔪 The arena is structured as a huge circle divided in four parts: in two of these parts there is an incessant rain, the other two are safe (with an alternate structure: safe-rain-safe-rain). However, this distinction is not clear, cause the rain is progressive at the border: at the start it’s really light, then the further the tributes move the more the rain increases. So it basically seems like it just starts raining at some point. But the rain is made of the same acid substance as the dangerous water sources, which makes it lethal. And of course, not knowing about the structure of the Arena, the tributes do not think about going back, but about running to seek shelter, which leads to them running further into the rain.

🔪 Also, the “safe” zones are not really safe: when the Gamemakers decide that the situation has become a bit too boring, they like to attack tributes with fireballs. This usually results in them escaping and: a) running into each other and starting to fight b) running into a mutt of some kind c) ending up in the Arena section with the acid rain.

THE MUTTS

🔪 Jaguar mutts: they look like regular black jaguars, from afar. Until you realise how massive they are. They have a mouth force of 10.000 psi, which makes them lethal. They’re mostly let out at night, because it’s way more difficult to see them in the dark due to their black fur. They have very long paws and they’re really fast, so outrunning them is not an option. They’re attracted by the smell of blood, so they’re more likely to go after someone who’s hurt. Their long paws make it so that so the center of gravity is too high, and this, along with their short “fingers” and way too long and straight claws, makes them unable to climb trees.

🔪 Snake mutts: similarly to the ones introduced in A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, they can’t see or hear, but they have a strong sense of smell. But instead of being colourful, they can change the colour of their skin to camouflage, making it really difficult to see them until it’s too late. They’re extremely venomous. They nestle really close to each other in hidden spaces, and they often attack in groups.

🔪 Mosquito mutts: their bite releases a substance that causes hallucinations and slows the tributes’ cognitive functions. Water can be used as an antidote.

Background

Kelsey has mentioned their caretaker, Titi, and alluded to the fact that it was Titi who taught them to wield time magic.

Kelsey insists that time is not a line or a stream, but a Design.

Whenever rabbits are mentioned, Kelsey behaves as if there is something dangerous about the creatures.

Lil K, the youngest, is friendly and outgoing though shy in large groups. She likes to color in crayon, although all of her drawings are incoherent scribbles.

Junior Kels is assertive, loud, and usually rude. Swears quite a bit. Mean to the people they like. And the people they don't like. And pretty much everyone.

Senior Kels is quiet, often passive -aggressive, and dislikes bullshit. When confronted with younger individuals, however, they can be gentle. They are especially cautious around those suffering from anxiety or panic attacks.

Silver Kelsey typically doesn't interact online except to share the Rules of Time. They're busy hunting Rabbits and looking for something.

Psi Kel is confident, and speaks vaguely when talking about future events that they seem to have some knowledge of. They main Boo in Mario Kart.

When two Kelseys meet, it has been stated that they have a rule that makes one of the Kelseys either leave or give up memory of the encounter. It is implied that the one who must leave or give their memory is the younger one. Junior does not like this rule.

The Kelseys are not fond of other time travelers, especially Darryl. Anyone who has messed with time is also an object of annoyance. Glenn is on thin ice, and Mr. Moustache / Scam Likely is also currently on the bad side of the Kelseys.

Dennis Anderson / Mark Likely ( @dilf-dennis ) has repeatedly mentioned that he and Kelsey are friends, but at any mention of it Psi is quick to deny friendship between them.

Kelsey keeps a notepad with them at all times.

Kelsey has always returned all of their books to the Library.

Originally green in battle, she has been guided enough to make use of her frame.

Sinalis quite enjoys any talk of engineering, though warships strike a fancier chord with her (the more ornate, the happier). She loathes blatant prejudice from any, especially the Khalai.

Integrated for the long-term, endured the abuse so graciously given unto her time of service. There came the rebellion: after doing all she could before being substituted as a shield, she ultimately managed to flee aboard a decrepit shuttle amidst the chaos. It was fired upon during the escape.

Thus, she eventually scraped upon a planet with most of her systems in tact, aircraft far beyond repair. The engineer decided: she found a place to power down in and hide herself away for a time. Misfortune crossed her path; a Tal'darim discovered and demanded her loyalty. She considered her memories. And she gave it, a fickle one at that, and with underlying plans to leave her in due time.

She later was able to repair all but the damage marring her features to acknowledge what had been done. Further went on to adapt, train due to mere "whims" of her superior.

She resolved, instead, to outlive her.

The EMP disabling the Digivice is pretty hardcore since like, nothing could ever do anything to those things in Adventure... Like if a Digimon just looked funny at them the Digivice would light up to protect the kids

Newsies TDM AU

As far as I’ve seen this hasn’t been done yet so here goes.

Warning: this is gonna be long. Also the actual fic will probably show child abuse and blood but this only briefly mentions it.

For those of you that haven’t read it, in the Darkest Minds, most of the kids in the US die from a disease with no symptoms. But those that survive become Psi kids and develop abilities in color categories. Listed in order of how common they are, Greens have super intelligence and photographic memories, Blues have telekinesis, Yellows have electrokinesis, Reds have pyrokinesis, and Oranges have telepathy. The government basically locks them all up and severely abuses them, using White Noise which is painful sound frequencies that only Psi kids can hear, to control them.

Jack is 14 and a late bloomer. He loses his younger brother to IAAN but it turns out he’s one of the lucky ones. Nobody thinks to send him to a camp because nobody thinks he got powers.

In reality, Jack is about the hottest, most powerful Red in the country.

When his parents find out, they don’t send the PSFs after him, but they don’t want him either. They kick him out.

Jack doesn’t mean to get caught but he ends up in a camp that’s under construction. As far as he knows, he’s the only one there, being the only Red. He’s there for 6 months before his escape.

Snyder isn’t hard to evade with his powers and Jack’s pretty much home free when he hears screaming and as much as his instincts are telling him to runrunrun he can’t quite abandon whoever it is, so he turns back, nearly blowing his opportunity for escape.

He winds up with a 12-year-old boy with a bad leg who doesn’t talk much and seems to know more about Jack than he should.

Jack’s seen enough crazy things to not question this. He just gives the kid some space (except when he needs to do what Jack says or get caught again) and lets him talk on his own time.

The boy eventually says that his name is Charlie Morris, he’s been in that camp for a year and a half, he’s an Orange, and he’d been screaming because Snyder found out and was going to kill him.

Jack notices how Charlie kind of flinches whenever he hears his name, like he’s not used to it being said by a friend, so he starts calling him Crutchie, and Crutchie is fine with that so they get along great. They make a pretty good team, sensing a threat before it sees them and fighting if they can’t avoid it.

Eventually, Crutchie opens up to Jack about the camp, what it was like there and how he read Snyder’s mind that they were going to move all the other kids to a bigger one with better security.

Unfortunately, he tells Jack this the day before the move, so they don’t have a lot of time to plan a break out, but they manage and wind up with ~100 kids who have been there anywhere from as long as Crutchie to a shorter time than Jack, most of whom adopt the nickname thing once they find out about it cause no good memories come with their real ones.

Jack’s pretty excited to find his 13-year-old cousin, who now goes by Spot, who he thought he’d never see again after he got taken by the government. Spot is a Red, too, but was smart enough to pass as a Blue with the help of his friends.

But his parents gave him up and Jack looks a little too much like Spot’s dad so Spot takes his group of friends and moves not too far away to send for help, but far enough that they don’t see each other a lot.

A few other kids take small groups and spread out across the woods but a good portion of them stick with Jack or at least drift between the tribes, staying with whoever they feel like each night.

The tribes name themselves after neighborhoods in New York because they’re all city kids so why not?

Jack’s ‘Manhattan’ tribe ends up like this:

Yellows: Race (13), Sniper (9), Kid Blink (10), Finch (13), Jojo (13)

Blues: Albert (14), Romeo (13), Smalls (9), Elmer (12), Buttons (11), Mike (11), Ike (11)

Greens: Specs (14), Mush (10), Henry (12), Tommy Boy (12)

Basically for a couple years they’re surviving however they can but their dynamic is exactly the same as canon.

Jack, at the ripe old age of 16, has to give The Talk™️ to a bunch of 12-year-olds who are asking questions about the *cough* horny *cough* older boys’ jokes.

And he’s also So Stressed because at first he was worried about boys and girls of around the same age living together with no adult supervision but now he has to tell Race to stop sneaking out to Brooklyn and Blink we’ve got other seats besides Mush’s lap and nO Sniper you and Smalls can’t date you’re 11.

It’s not that he doesn’t support them but if anybody breaks up that could create drama that he doesn’t want to deal with.

But fast forward another year and they’re doing fine. They run hits on small camps to free new kids whenever they can and take in whoever comes their way. (Enter oc Newsies.)

All the tribes stay in contact and know each other are safe pretty much all the time and they’re strong alone but on the rare occasion all the tribes unite, they’re so strong with so many boys (and a few girls) that the government knows they’re there and at this point can’t do anything about them.

*record scratch, freeze frame* Enter the Jacobs siblings.

Davey (16) is an Orange, Sarah (16) is a Blue, and Les (10) is a Yellow. Their parents managed to keep them safely hidden until Davey got spotted.

So they had to run, and it isn’t too long before they bump into the Psi Tribes of New York, the Manhattan tribe.

At first, both Davey and Sarah want nothing to do with it, but Les points out that they might be safer with them because government knows about the tribes and hasn’t killed them yet.

Davey is extremely uncomfortable trying to read anyone, but he does when Sarah asks him too, just enough to feel that Jack is genuine in wanting to help them.

The Jacobs siblings are amazed to see this fairly large community of Psi kids living together, practicing their abilities openly and experimenting, testing the limits of what they can and can’t do. Les and Sarah love it. Davey is less certain.

Davey thinks that his abilities make him dangerous. He’s afraid that based on stories of others like him, he might go dark and hurt someone. It doesn’t help that it’s technically his fault they had to go on the run.

Jack helps him see that his powers are a part of him, darkness and all, and helps him get more confident in himself—“Hey, I got an Orange who’s practically my brother and he ain’t so bad.”

Davey won’t admit it but he likes it there. He likes it with Jack even if he thinks he his siblings will move on eventually.

They manage to stay there in relative safety for about a week before disaster finds them.

Disaster being Katherine, an 18-year-old late bloomer Green running from the government, who seem to want her more than any other Psi for some reason.

She’s with her friends Bill and Darcy, both her age and also Greens but the government doesn’t want them as much.

Jack isn’t going to turn them away just because of danger so he takes them in, but the government basically fences off the forest borders they can’t patrol and traps the tribes inside and the tribes Do Not like that very much.

But the soldiers are too scared to go in and really deal with them and yes they’ve got White Noise machines but there’s just so many kids of varying colors in there many of whom have been dealing with it for years so it wouldn’t really be effective.

So the soldiers just keep the perimeter up and hope if they wait long enough they can smoke them out.

That... does not work. The tribes know how to hunt and survive on whatever’s growing around in the woods already and they may have a smaller territory now but they make do. They may not like being trapped but they can deal with that, too.

So after a while the soldiers get impatient and send a message.

Surrender Katherine by sundown tomorrow or we come in and take her.

As concerned as they are for their own survival, none of the tribes are just going to hand Kath over. However being threatened like that makes them think of their own experiences in camps and they start getting angry.

Katherine has never been in a camp but she tells Jack that she saw the schematics for the biggest one in New York and there’s serious weakness there. As in, they could storm it with even their group of only a bit over a hundred kids.

Davey doesn’t think it’s a good idea but once he sees that Jack is doing it with or without him of course he agrees.

The entire Manhattan Tribe wants to try.

But other tribes, including Brooklyn, aren’t sure they want to make the first move. They know war is inevitable, but don’t know if they want start it.

The Blues dig tunnels out of the forest so they can get out and head for the camp.

Unfortunately the guy who runs the camp, Pullitzer, is expecting them since he knows Katherine saw the schematics.

Basically they go in and get beaten. Crutchie may be one of the most powerful but he doesn’t make it back.

Back in the forest, Jack blames himself.

As much as he likes Katherine, he starts thinking about handing her over to save the rest of his tribe.

Davey convinces Jack not to give her up and figures that since they already got their asses kicked the last thing Pullitzer is going to expect is them attacking the camp again.

Only this time Spot and the other tribes are willing to come with.

Jack still isn’t convinced and they have a conversation that goes something like:

“I can’t put the others in danger like that.”

“They’re in danger just by having their abilities. Look, I know you’re scared but—“

“You don’t know what it feels like! You’ve been here what—two weeks?”

“Actually, I do know what it feels like. You keep forgetting I feel everything you do.”

Jack eventually agrees right as Katherine comes to them with another confession.

She’s Pullitzer’s daughter. That’s the real reason he wants her caught so bad.

They use it to their advantage, having Bill and Darcy march her up to the soldiers only to go psych! Spot and Brooklyn tribe are waiting with an ambush to keep them busy while Jack takes Manhattan and everybody else to take down the camp.

They eventually succeed, getting Crutchie back in the process and saving enough Psi kids that they can definitely hold what’s left of the camp, the woods, and the surrounding areas by themselves.

So they just stick in that area living in their new large territory and the government can’t do much about them.

It will be another 3 years before all that stuff with Ruby and her friends happens.

But basically the Newsies have powers and are fine and also javey, newsbians, sprace, blush, and smallsper happen at some point in there.

I’m gonna write an actual AU about this but I thought I’d give y’all an idea of what to expect and I honestly don’t give a damn if nobody reads it.

Edit: if anyone has a Newsies oc they would be okay with me inserting please send me their name/backstory/personality cause I will make sure to at least mention as many as I can.

2018 Mid Year Fraternity Rankings

You really didn’t think we would make you wait an entire year for an update did you?

#1 - Sigma Chi

Everyone’s favorite OC boys are back on top. A lot of credit goes to TKE for fumbling their position away, but these guys really had a great semester. Mayhem was huge and they showed us why Sigma Chi will always be top tier.

#2 - Tau Kappa Epsilon

Started off the semester strong with a good PC but found themselves on interim social suspension. Only dropped one spot for the half year rankings. Expect TKE hungry for #1 if they are allowed to party in the fall.

#3 - Lambda Chi Alpha

Lambda drops down one spot to sit comfortably at number 3. We have always talked about the lack of brotherhood and low involvement in this house, and it has finally started to have tangible consequences as they didn’t have any parties this entire semester; even though they are not in trouble with the university. They had the best pledge class on the row by some distance but that was the highlight of their semester. If they can’t get their act together quickly, they will continue falling.

#4 - Alpha Epsilon Pi

AEPi moves to the top of the upper tier for the mid-year rankings. Their pledge class was better than their last two but still needs some serious improvement. Lil Dicky helped secure a spot in the top 5 registers and getting theta for homecoming will really help their popularity. They are currently the closest to being top, especially with every top house having issues next semester, but anything can happen.

#5 - Sigma Nu

Sig Nu moves up to #5 with some credit to ZBT for also fumbling their position away. Started off the semester very strongly with a really good PC and some banging parties. They have really improved their sorority relations and are becoming more and more popular on the row.

#6 - Zeta Beta Tau

ZBT comes in at #6 after having a really weak semester. Started off badly with yet another very large PC filled with too many questionable guys and then found themselves in some kind of trouble and unable to throw their register. Another semester like this and ZBT may not be able to recover for a long time.

#7 - Sigma Alpha Mu

Sammy holds steady at #7 after a really solid semester. They started off with a surprisingly good PC and with TKE and lambda not having parties frequently, they had the biggest parties on the row. With all the top houses in trouble and ZBT slipping fast, these guys could really make a name for themselves.

#8 - Phi Delta theta

Phidelt holds onto their #8 spot. These guys put in a lot of work to improve their social this semester. They started out with a solid PC and really tried to improve their mixers and other events but still struggle with parties and registers. With Pike hungry to climb, these guys need to figure something out very fast.

#9 - Pi Kappa Alpha

Another semester of Pike making some big moves. Pike paradise was weak once again, but some of their regular parties were huge. Now that they are taking over Phi Psi’s house they could really start to compete. Getting tridelt for homecoming will help their popularity and put a lot of pressure on phidelt.

#10 - Pi Kappa Phi

PiKapp swaps spots with Pike after another bad semester. These guys had a very small and unimpressive pledge class and threw very average parties and register. They are still pretty far ahead of the unranked houses, but Beta is coming off probation in the fall and will be hungry to move up.

4: How do you get into your OC’s mindset to write for them? How do you find the muse for them?

Taz is really direct and blunt, and my usual writing style is quite flowery, so getting her to sound right is a little tricky! I usually try to read something with a similar style before writing for her: the Imperial Radch series by Ann Leckie works best, Hemingway will do in a pinch, and the ‘this works okay’ majority is whatever sci-fi or detective fiction I can pilfer off my dad’s and brother’s bookshelves on a given day (the detective fiction is doubly useful because Taz’s public persona has the same uber-cool, casual-danger-dialogue vibe that a lot of fictional detectives give off, with a certain self-conscious hahaha please believe this obvious act undercurrent). Then I write the thing, getting rid of as many adverbs, adjectives, metaphors and similes as I can without sacrificing the clarity of the text and chopping up the sentences into fragments and bland statements of fact. This doesn’t always work so well, since I love me some figurative language – and sometimes it works TOO well and the reply comes out as a piece of stiff and ugly writing. On the bright side, this means I can usually write Taz even when I’m too tired for Vide’s idiom-heavy text or Weeds’s melodramatics, because she is tired and hiding her anxiety behind a monotone and hey! I’m also tired and anxious and monotone! (I also use more dashes in both Taz’s speech and internal monologue, but it’s hard to tell because I use lots of dashes just in general :P)

9: What is your OC like when at work? Are they diligent? Slacker? Do they get along with their co-workers?

Taz considers herself the One Sane Troll in the Brewed Awakening operation, because her coworkers are:

a mafioso wannabe

a gaggle of squirrelly teenagers

a pirate wannabe

an antisocial layabout who’s only prevented from frequent murder by said pirate wannabe

people who willingly crew for #s 3 and 4

other forms of hooliganry

They’re all actually very good at what they do! But no one can deny that they’re… high-key everything. Taz is comparatively much more sensible and professional, but she’s also something of a control freak – so she breaks up a lot of drama, confiscates a lot of cigarettes/other drugs, sprays Lysol on Interns that are canoodling when they should be working, prevents the occasional Yacspo/Ydeeah relationship tiff that would otherwise end in someone getting fed to Manfred, makes sure Ydeeah’s taking her psi dampeners and Umetto’s taking his blood dye, sees to ornery customers and inter-boat feuds, argues with Umetto about budgets and profit margins and permits and gang disputes, and generally keeps the gang together. All this is on top of her actual, official job, which requires a lot of organizational work: reading through reports and keeping track of their contents, liaising with clients, planning meeting points, taking on sensitive missions herself, managing the records for both the shop and the smuggling ring, supervising the Interns in a professional as well as personal sense, makes sure all vessels are seaworthy and all cargo is received, etc. Taz is pretty overworked! There’s a reason she treasures her nights off so desperately. She does get along pretty well with her coworkers, though, because even Umetto and Ydeeah know, beneath all their teasing, that’s she’s something of a linchpin for the whole operation. Thank god for workaholics, thinks nearly everyone on the staff, as they look at the huge stacks of paperwork on Taz’s desk and shudder.

10: How do they deal with strangers?

Strangers actually make Taz pretty nervous, so she puts on the aforementioned casual-danger-dialogue persona! She’s a Business Lady, she is suave and relaxed and does this every night, deal with it. This is definitely something she’s trying to do with Bassil (when Ydeeah’s not tripping her up) and Izzy, and to a lesser extent with Sielan – if you project the image that you’ve got everything under control and are impossibly cooler and Better At This than the person you’re talking to, they tend to take you seriously, avoid questioning you, and, if you’re lucky, be awed enough to keep their distance. She’ll even maintain the persona with coffeehive customers and people who she doesn’t know well/wants to impress (e.g. Warron), because she thinks it’s universally effective. And it is, if your main goal is keeping everyone at arm’s length.

VIM学习笔记网页开发-输入字符实体(Input Character Entity)

字符实体（Character Entity），也称为转义字符串（Escape Sequence），主要用于在HTML代码中，输入如“<”和“>”等标签关键字，以及如“©”等在ASCII字符集中没有定义的需要转义的特殊符号。当解释程序遇到此类字符串时，将会解释并在网页中显示为真实的字符。

对于同一个字符实体，可以使用名称和数字两种引用方式。

名称引用方式为&name;，并且严格区分大小写。比如α代表小写希腊字母“α”；而Α则代表大写希腊字母“Α”。

HTML-Editor插件

我在Christian J Robinson开发的HTML插件的基础之上，制作了HTML-Editor插件，通过快捷键和菜单项来提高编写HTML代码的效率，并提供代码模板、色彩选择和网页预览等功能。

在插入模式下，使用以&开头的快捷键，可以自动输入相对应的字符实体。例如点击&&快捷键，将自动扩展为“&”：
