virtual game memories
under the cut because it's a little long :)
when i was a kid my favorite virtual games were club penguin and fantage. club penguin was extremely popular after all! and fantage had an adorable art style and so many opportunities for roleplaying! (i used to lie to people and say i was recording a youtube video, but really i just wanted to roleplay high school with them lol)
i would constantly beg my parents to buy me premium membership on those games, but they always said no. they never budged on this, but at one point club penguin was selling real-life plushes of penguins with codes that you could redeem in-game for exclusive clothes. i convinced my mom to buy me this specific plush:
with the code i was able to get that hair and dress. these were basically the only premium clothes i had, so my two main roles in club penguin were either 1. pizza chef (because the chef hat and apron were free) or 2. a pookie (basically a baby penguin that sat in the pet shop and begged to be adopted).
as for fantage, it never sold any real-life toys or anything else like that... but i was able to convince an online friend to share her premium account with me. i remember the username was sonia1132, and if i look it up now i can actually see videos with that account on youtube! (none of those videos were actually of me, though.)
this account was shared between a lot of people, actually, so i would log in on some days to see the entire outfit and face of the avatar had been changed. sometimes i would be kicked out of the game because someone else logged on. it was annoying, but i got used to it, and it was worth it because my other account had basically nothing cool on it.
i had a lot of fun playing on this account! one day it got banned, though, because some clown decided to swear. saddest day of my life. i remember just staring at the screen with empty sadness. but i resigned myself to playing on my non-premium account. woe was me... :(
sometimes i wish fantage had lasted long enough for me to finally be able to make my own premium account, but in retrospect, maybe it's for the best that never came to me. i watched wars between the premiums and non-premiums. i learned humility, and how to appreciate what little i had. jk i'm still salty

Something I've been thinking a lot about lately is how everyone thought Egon had gone insane. What Happened that made them think that. They've fought a gigantic Stay Puft Marshmellow Man TWICE (counting the 2009 video game because iirc it's canon? Correct me if I'm wrong), fought an interdimensional god, fought a blood thirsty ruler that killed thousands and was hated by all that was trapped in a painting (and managed to get in to beat him by making THE STATUE OF LIBERTY start walking down the street with slime that reacted purely based on vibes), found an underground abandoned transit system full of the moodslime, had a bathtub try to eat Dana and her baby, fought a giant murderous black widow lady, fought the fisherman ghost who turned an entire hotel floor into the bottom of a ocean, and that's not even mentioning them getting trapped on an island that randomly raised up from underwater that had been abandoned for decades created by Ivor Shandor who worshipped Gozer. So what did he do or say that made everyone else think he'd gone insane?? All I can think is maybe he was acting strange / eratic before, but he's always been like that to some degree.
I don't know. It's something that I've been thinking about. The correct answer is 'it's not that deep and they needed a reason that the others weren't together anymore and weren't aware of Egons death or know what was going on,' but also. What Was He Saying that prompted everyone, including Ray, to think he lost his mind when he'd been right almost every time before that.
I'm genuinely so curious as to what he was up to before this. What was he doing. What insane idea was working on prior to this or was he even working on anything at all??
Also want to clarify this post isn't negative 😭 I really love the newer movies and their lore / the newer storyline / characters, I just like thinking about small stupid things like this. Gives me something to think about / speculate about / figure out an answer to.

"Gaze into the space between the pixels on the screen
There, you’ll see a place between the signal and the screams
Feel the oscillation of the crystal in your dreams
Just switch off your brain and let it sizzle in the beams"
-----
It took a matter of months to finish this drawing. (/j, it only took. 2 weeks? I think? maybe a little less, but that's an approximate)
It's been a while since I made a digital drawing. So far between April and now I have focused more on traditional drawings with digital coloring. These are (mostly) cool to do,but it's nice to go back to full digital every now and then.
This is one of the cases where the original idea and the final result don't differ that much from each other, but there was still a certain evolution from when I conceived the drawing and how I ended up doing it. The Main Thing of the original idea is still here,I just expanded it a little.
Also, the lyrics at the beginning are from "Tune Into The Madness" by The Stupendium and Dan Bull. Great song, and one that I was listening to a lot at the time I was reading the book (and much earlier too). Because, you know. Mix of horror and TV. It made sense. (And yes,I know this song is about a totally different game, and the TV context in both stories are very different (as far as I remember, it's been a while since I played LN2) but I thought the lyrics could match the drawing anyway + it's my chance to recommend peak, so yeah)
Listen to the song, it's very good! (The video do contains flashing images and lights tho,so viewer discretions is adviced)
Also, alt. versions without the text, because I thought that without the text it looks good too (+ you can now see Bendy's face)

it feels like a lot of people look at him and go ‘teehee my fav who’s committed war crimes!! <3’ but. only want to appreciate him as the archetype of ‘vaguely problematic fav’ and not actually engage with the specific things he’s done. i woke up like 5 seconds ago so maybe that’s not worded perfectly but that’s the vibes i get if that makes sense
no dont worry i get what you mean, that is kind of the vibe. and to be fair i feel like the cast kind of ended up doing that later on too, like after that plot was done the reaction is Aw he's such a problematic little baby hotboi (typing that feels like when adults call a dog a doggo i hate to say it but it pains me) lets draw him as a chibi eating soup. like no he was able to get away with what he did (giving away the beacons, working With ikithon and ludinus and igniting a war that destroyed sm peoples lives), frame another innocent man for it who ended up tortured and given to the empire as a prisoner too, lied to all of tmn about it to their faces, putting them in danger by asking them to retrieve the beacons for him when he knew where they were and who had them. . he got away with this (in the plot, to the cast and fandom) because he's a young, attractive, extremely wealthy, privileged and politically powerful man. like ?

Post-canon Lemon [part II/?]
a continuation of this post
Dedicated to @books-are-my-life-stuff and inspired by your gifset!
After high school, Mash goes to patisserie school, Lemon goes to uni for a degree in care of magical creatures, Dot & Finn & Lance become divine visionary apprentices and are on the fast track to join the bureau of magic.
Lemon is admitted into a world-renowned university with top notch research, facilities and faculty.
To stay in touch, the gang tries to meet up weekly to do fun activities (aquarium, farmer's marker, game arcade etc), the way they did back at Easton Academy.
Lemon misses may of them because she's on overseas trips to study rare creatures. So the gang tries to tag along as often as they can <33
Lemon is still Mash's self-proclaimed wife but she has mellowed down a lot, no longer pouring all her energy and time into loving Mash, instead focusing more on herself and excelling at her studies.
Lemon knows she got this far thanks to the help and support of others: Headmaster Wahlberg, Easton teachers, her friends especially Mash. She never forget her roots and is always volunteering at Easton as a mentor and teaching assistant. She's super popular with students and even has a fanclub!
She's such a good teacher that in her final year of uni, Wahlberg offers her a teaching position at Easton. Lemon declines, wanting to gain experience on the field first and help difficult creatures.
Mash and Lemon develop and easy friendship. underneath all the crazy, she's a sweet thoughtful girl with high emotional intelligence, often the first to pick up when something's up.
Mash often tests out new recipes and designs with her and Lemon provides honest feedback on what works and what doesn't.
They often share comfortable silences, Lemon absorbed in her studies and sneaking glances at Mash baking. Mash catches himself looking back, flustering Lemon which makes her punch him.
Mash has never had an affinity with written exams (as seen in ep 24) but is better at prepping for them now yet Lemon sees how stressed he really was. Being a patissier has been his dream forever so the stakes are high.
Lemon takes him to see the animals at her university to relax, a bit like how students have play sessions with puppies. Except Mash sees some disturbing creatures but pretends to be fine.
Mash falls asleep mid-way through an explanation on owls' diet, resting his head on Lemon's shoulder. She quietly takes out her sketchbook to draw him. Lemon's a great artist and has drawn many Mash(es?) in high school, including the ones on Mash merchandise (that Mash and Finn found disturbing in the epilogue). But there were also drawings she hasn't shown anyone, that are soft and vulnerable, that show unbridled longing and love.
Lemon assumed Mash fell asleep because he was tired and bored but he actually found her voice soothing and comforting, like home. no one has had that effect on him.

Every appearance of the red-haired menace that is early Laurence forces me to sit here and stew upon how I will fix his introduction in the rewrite. As a coping mechanism. Unfortunately since I can't remember the parts where his character isn't just harassment so I can't cook with the themes the way I'd like to. Like the way he calls Aph "my love" after she very explicitly in the text of the game tells him not to do that... bad vibes. I think I could rock with his character if he'd done the same sort of approach in hitting on Aphmau as heavily, but the moment she lays down an actual boundary, he backs way the hell off. I could even fuck with her trying to be subtle about the boundary and him not getting it and continuing to make her uncomfortable before she snaps at him and he apologizes, saying that he truly didn't mean anything by it, and he respects the boundary she lays like his life depends on it from then on out. It would create some immediate complexity in his need for explicit communication, and backs up the sort of deeper character hinting they seem to try to do when he's talking about Castor and Cadenza, this idea that he deeply cares, if being a bit pushy on accident. It would also make a good detail fueling the conflicts later on with the love triangle that can sort of prevent Laurence from looking like TOO much of a dickhead (him being unaware or misinterpreting situations, and the delicate nature of it making him uncomfortable asking questions, is a compelling reason to see somebody hurting his friends' feelings, and makes him significantly more sympathetic, opening him up for feelings of remorse and guilt).

So I was just watching someone run through PLA and I noticed something. Laventon says the village has only been around 2 years. In OOP, ingos been there literally twice the amount of time as these guys!!!! The “outsiders” hypocrisy has it’s more obvious points but like come on kamado and Beni wtf. You’re not old enough to even be trying to run a HOA on hisui, telling the clans their oversized bidoof aren’t on the approved list of decorations.
LMFAO the phrasing on this is killing me
yeah the age of jubilife is one of those things that i feel like i have to retcon to some degree, bc the idea that a structure like galaxy hall went up two years after the first group landed is. ridiculous. i mean even more ridiculous than the existence of galaxy hall to start with. REGARDLESS THOUGH i do think ingo still predates them by a fairly decent length of time which, YEAH, they really do not have any leg to stand on complaining about outsiders or trying to decide how to do things whkwjhwjk. not that that's stopping them!!

when jane's powers return in season four (and because they were regained by her confronting and accepting her past, rather than being retraumatised with it!) they're stronger than they ever were. when she starts getting a handle back on them, she very quickly comes to realise not only have they affected her, but her mother, too. one of the biggest losses that came about with her losing them was the fact that she could no longer visit terry in the void; while there was no real communication there, it did allow jane to sit with her, and gain a little more connection than she could in the real world. when she first visits the void after their return, it takes her three hours to find terry, something that is both unexpected and incredibly worrying. but when she does, it's something of a miracle. jane's increased strength and control over the void actually wakes terry up from her catatonic state, but only in the void. there's no way to help her mother physically, but she does do so (unbeknownst to her) mentally. terry is reborn in jane's newfound control over the vale of shadows; she becomes the woman she once was, and while her body remains frozen in a "good dream", her mind connected to jane's own allows her some freedom. jane is able to speak to her mother in the void, is able to be held by her, and while it's still unfair and jane cannot stay in there forever, it's something. this only lasts for about eight months, as each visit slowly begins deteriorating terry's physical and mental state, and jane's health begins declining after spending hours upon hours in the void each and every day.
when jane finds out these visits are actually killing her mother on the outside, she deems to stop, but terry expresses the importance of them being able to speak, that she'd prefer to die on the outside, if it meant she could have just a few months with her daughter like this. terry and jane's connection was always so strong, which ultimately led to terry "waking up" in the void, but even jane's newfound strength cannot save her from the harsh realities. each visit nearing the end of those eight months, terry fades more and more, becomes weaker in the void, and her real body eventually gives up. jane's in the void when her mother eventually passes on, and physically feels their connection weaken, like some part of her suddenly becomes lost in the shadows, a part she'll never find again. jane falls into a depressive state for weeks after her mother's death, given she's technically lost her a second time, but soon comes to realise she was lucky to have even shared those eight months together. it was better than nothing at all. there is a proper burial and funeral, (and when jane dies, she's buried next to her mother) which allows jane some sense of closure. she never fully recovers from losing terry, nor from the fact that she never had a proper relationship with her, but she does eventually find some peace with it all.
