Apple Pie

“Do you remember our first date?” She whispered softly, looking into the topaz eyes of her girlfriend. The blonde smiled and laced her long fingers through the other’s olive ones.

“Of course I do. We went to the orchard to pick apples.” She says fondly.

“And then I tried to climb to the top branch to impress you.” The brunette adds. The face of the shorter girl lights up.

“That’s right! We spent the night together in the hospital. I remember you kept shouting ‘Just watch, the best apples are always at the top’!” She says laughing. Her girlfriend squeezes her hand in response.

“And then when I got out of the hospital we went back to your house and you gave me an apple pie of all things.” The blonde girl giggles again.

“I thought it was appropriate.”

“I had just broken my arm getting you those apples!”

“You didn’t complain about my baking then.” She answers. The brunette’s eyes soften at her girlfriend’s response.

“Do you remember what I said that night when we fell asleep on your couch?” She asks, staring into the twinkling topaz gems fitted into her girlfriend’s eyes. She shakes her head.

“I fell asleep first, I don’t remember anything after we laid down.” The brunette takes the hand of the one girl she loves and raises it to her mouth, gently pressing a soft kiss onto the flesh just above her knuckles.

“I said that one day, under that same apple tree, I would ask you to marry me.” She says firmly. The blonde’s breath hitches at her girlfriend’s words. She feels a tear spring to her eye before she even sees her girlfriend slip a diamond ring onto her finger.

“What do you say? Marry-” She can’t even finish before she’s pulled into a furious kiss by the shorter woman. When they break apart, it’s as if they’re teenagers sharing their very first kiss once again.

“Is that a yes?” She asks, hands still firmly in the other’s blonde locks. She nods and pulls her fiance into another passionate kiss.

“It was always a yes. From the minute you first said hello to now and every moment in between. It’s always been you.” Her eyes soften at the kind words of the fair skinned girl.

“I love you.”

“I love you too.”
