ice cream before dinner by cloudydaisies is a pitch perfect Eddie POV fic as he babysits Mara and Jee-Yun following 7x10, winning them over with icecream tuesdays, love and support. I saw so many people loving on this and then caught my eye even more with some gorgeous cover art by @walkingonawire and yes, everyone was right, it absolutely melted my heart. Just a beat for beat joy of a fic, Eddie's internal journey and the sweet bond of trust and love built between the trio, as he awaits Chris' return, and allows himself to open his heart up to Buck along the way. Beautifully written and delightful!

all you're giving me is friction by @henswilsons ahhhh such a wonderful 5+1 buddie fic in which Eddie joins the 118 and Hen is a little worried that Buck's flirting with him will cross a line...seeing as he's wearing a wedding ring. This is such a fun fic with the elephant in the room...because you know what she doesn't know you know, right? And waiting for the reveal and watching it dawn on them is so brilliantly funny in execution.

wherever you roam (you'll always want me) by @buddieism canon divergent following 7x05 in which Eddie would rather 'go to his grave repressed and miserable than ever take away from Buck’s happiness.' But in unpacking what would make Eddie himself happy, he comes to realise with some help and a look at what brought him to this point in his life that that might not be up to him. Aching and painfully cathartic and ultimately full of hope.

When Eddie finds a box of abandoned kittens at the side of the road, he takes them to the shelter...but falls ass over teakettle for little calico Pinto (like the beans). Reluctant to let on to the existence of his new furry little friend, he keeps her close to his chest. When Buck finds out, he's unable to resist falling under the spell of her charms...or her owners. Sweet, romantic fluff...with such great character voice....and whiskers!! So freakin' cute.

But all these years later, he's not sure he's so readily okay with having to say goodbye for real, even in the line of duty. Some lyrically written introspection and growth from Buck here in the way he understands and embraces life vs death situations.

Hot Ghost Problems by @ebjameston in which Eddie is a natural born witch in a world where magic isn't a secret though he keeps it close to his chest. But on joining the 118 he meets Buck...only Evan Buckley is the firefighter who died that Eddie was here to replace. Tethered together by magic, Buck refuses to move on, and in staying around he saves Eddie along the way. With some excellent Diaz sister cameos, a brilliantly intriguing mystery, and a whole heap of magic, they race against time to save the day and might just get to keep their happily ever after. I had such a great time reading this one from 2023!

the tortured poets department by @colonoscopys more magic! 'The first time Buck touched him, Eddie blew an ambulance up.' Magic sparks under his skin, and falling in love with Buck feels a lot like when it overwhelms him with feeling. Eddie thinks he's doing a good job keeping it secret, but somethings are obvious to those who know what signs to look out for. This one felt like a little bit of magic shared, sweet, sexy and full of all sorts of sparks!

Okay let's leave it there for this week. Next week we'll have a new episode to play with! Can you believe it? I'll be on a little work trip and then a vacation so looking forward to joining you all in the sandbox soon. So excited to be back with the firefam again.

bucktommy headcanons for sleepover saturday!

Ahhhh, yay! Thank you for asking this, I have so many just stewing in here 🧠

Margaret loves Tommy (because she calls Buck Evan and Evan likes it. Thanks to @some-little-infamy for this one.) Buck isn't sure how he feels about it, but it feels like healing, just a little bit.

Tommy's legal name is just Tommy. Not Thomas. Though, he doesn't divulge this fact to Buck until they meet his parents and Buck says how happy he is to have Thomas in his life. They are very confused.

Tommy is terrified of flying if he's not the pilot. He doesn't actually give people lessons so when Buck takes him up on them, he's a ball of nerves.

Buck pretends that he doesn't like when Tommy calls him "Kid" but it's probably the best thing he's ever been called by a partner.

Tommy loves shitty reality TV and is super jealous that the 118 got to go to the Bachelor Mansion. (Though, he's excited to know who the next Bachelor is before the season airs.) He also ropes Buck into weekly Bachelor watches at Madney's house.

Contrary to popular belief and general build, Buck is stronger than Tommy. They figure this out through arm wrestles, bench press competitions, and... other stuff. 😏

I would kill for just a throwback scene of the old 118 working on a call. Sal kind of taking charge but still relying on his teams input. Hen taking care of patients and Chimney right at her side. Tommy being the muscle but also the guy that will go and shoot a few hoops with the neighborhood kids watching. And no maybe they didnt always have lunch and dinner together but when they did eat together laughter and smiles weren’t uncommon. I also wanna see some antics. Maybe they get this one old captain 6 feet from his deathbed so they all make up a game of who can scare him the most to see how close they can get him to a heart attack (he leaves after 2 weeks at his doctor discretion) i want to see one captain think hes large and in charge but be slightly wary of sal and tommy because how can 2 big motherfuckers like that slink around like a pair of cats. I want one captain to think he knows more than hen and hen put that idiot in his place with the 3 of them standing right at her back cause no one messes with hen. I want a captain that makes bad calls and Chimney to call him out on his bullshit and drags his ass to the higher ups because we save people here not leave them to die. I just want to see all of them be close and have each other’s backs. Hell i would kill for a “you would make a damn good captain one day” “you too” scene between hen and sal because when Hen calls the shots best believe Sal is going to listen. I want to see bad calls happen and everyone lean on each other especially Tommy i want to see him at first refuse to reach out but instead they reach for him. ahhhh there is so much we could do with themmmm.

Calliope: Recollection

(a poorly drawn mini-comic inspired by a recent convo between yours truly and @ahhhh-118, enjoy!)

Translation:

Cairns family homestead, 1917...

Adeline: Calliope?... Where are you going with that shovel?

Calliope: just gonna go withdraw some money, mum.

Calliope (in mind): just a little money...

A few years earlier...

Robert: Oi, Calli! Where yah goin'?

Calliope: Goin' down to feed the sheep, why?

Callum: *narrows eyes in suspicion*

Robert: You've only got a few more bucks in your allowance, so.yah betta make it count.

Calliope: Yessir!

Calliope (in present mind): *sigh*

Calliope (still in present mind): It's just to keep us fed... I promise I'll pay you back... Someday

For context, this follows an eighteen year old Calliope (aka, when she still had long hair) whose mother approaches her about where she's going. Calliope responds that she's going to withdraw money, but doesn't tell her that she's withdrawing money from the secret stash of money Calli and her brothers had stolen from banks and buried out on their families property (they come from a family of cattle farmers). Calli reminisces to herself about only taking a little, before we're thrown back to a fifteen year old Calli with her two older brothers Robert and Callum. Robert asks Calli where she's going and she responds with lie, of which her brothers catch onto. Robert replying with what he knows she's actually going to do, and says to use the rest of what she has in her 'allowance' wisely. As to make it even they had divided up their loot. Calli salutes him with her shovel before we cut to eighteen year old Calli thinking to herself, this time about how she would pay back her brothers the money she took from them to be able to feed her and her mother while they were away fighting in the great war. If they ever did come home, that is...

Talking about neurodivergent reader, how about a reader that goes mute and just kinda sits on the floor when they’re overwhelmed/having a meltdown. I have autism and I do this a lot.

Alternatively maybe a reader that uses buck to stim. Tracing his tattoos, finger tapping on his skin, using bucks hand as a stopper between reader and the wall when they’re bashing their head on the wall. (Idk if thats common but I do that).

Either that or maybe reader ends up in some sort of mass accident, they’re not overly injured but the sirens and people screaming sends them into a meltdown before the 118 arrive.

I have a lot of ideas and that you for reading my pure word vomit, I apologise if this makes no sense.
