9. worst part of canon

Everything to do with Cunoesse. Worst as in heartbreaking. That poor kid was written to get the shitty end of the stick no matter what. And then they just... do nothing with her. Cuno even begs to go with Harry and Jean because he's scared of her (that's how I read into it.)

10. worst part of fanon

To me? Making Kim some kind of badass when he was younger. The guy is a dork. He does crossword puzzles and was a stickler for the rules - even more so when he was younger apparently. Plus he was a proud moralist when he was young. Those types of people are always kinda party poopers. (Which Kim is apparently proud of his party pooping ways).

Gonna call myself out on this one. Cunoesse. My own blorbofication. The kid is messed up. She's scary. She gets manic when you can take a shot at her.

Conceptualization, Empathy?

Conceptualisation: what further exploration of the world or characters do you want to see most? (in an official or fan capacity)

THE PALE, DEFINITELY THE PALE. Apart from that, I don't think I want any continuation of anyone's story in an official way but I especially love fanfics that explore cuno's and cunoesse's life more and fanfics that dive more into kim's family and his complicated relationship to his heritage. And I also can't get enough of the absolute bonkers worldbuilding. A mountain that's almost 19 kilometers high?? A latitude with 25 hours in a day??? just give me more of that please.

Empathy: who is the character of all time? explain. Nooooo don't make me choose. There are so many good characters. HDB of course is in so many ways the most character of all time but I think I am going to go with the other boring answer and say Kim. But not the woobified version of him but the snarky sarcastic asshole cop. The man who appears to be the definition of composure himself but who is always just one second away from snapping. This man listens to speedfreaks fm while commiting 10 different traffic violations. He becomes a pinball master at 37 so they put him out of juvie. Truly, such a character. But the most important and interesting thing to me is his relationship to moralism and to his own heritage and I would loooooove to see more exploration of this.

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

I guess I'd have to say Love for a Face! I can't tell you how much I agonized over it and second guessed myself and asked for help from trusted beta readers and just, in general, hung A LOT of expectations on it that were, I think, mostly met!

5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?

Maybe The Sojourners' Responsibilities, in that it actually got a few comments from people outside my usual circles? Otherwise Love for a Face again.... amazing what writing for a big fandom can do....

6. Favorite title you used

If I don't use Love for a Face AGAIN (look, I just thought a lot of things worked about it!) then I think Holy Messengers of Justice or Something Like That qualifies. We've got Emma's Holy Night thing, we have the Justice Minister connection, we have Emma's darling angel tie-in.... lot of layered meaning in that title! Plus it's silly; always a plus.

18. The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?

Oh, undoubtedly Bailey and Bailey's friend from When in Doubt. Not only did I have to write flirty dialogue, I had to avoid using a name and avoid making it TOO abstract until the end. It was a fun one to write but I think I have new grey hairs after writing it!

His vision swam, his head spun, his breath staggered like it was trying to catch up to him. His heart, a herd of stampeding deer. Stars popping in his vision. Dazed.

Here's a recent line for the Sabin fanfic I've been working on:

Bracing himself for the attack, his eyes met hers and silently begged for a flicker of recognition or humanity.

Titillating! Who is attacking Sabin? Why don't they seem to recognize him? What happens if the attack lands? Will this line survive my next round of brutal edits? Are my edits actually brutal? Can one claim to use brutal edits if the story has ballooned into this many words and chapters?

Only by the grace of the Triad will we get answers!

I'm going to tag some people who have written FF6 fanfics that I really loved. This is more of a, Hey, you have no idea who I am but I loved that FF6 story you wrote and I have written (or will write) a post about the specific story and what I loved about it!, and less of a, Hey, I'm a total stranger who is roping you into something you may not want to participate in and if you don't block me I'll spam you constantly with things!

Also, in tracking down some of these Tumblr accounts, I'm pleased to see that literally everyone in this list seems to be genuinely awesome, FF6 fandom aside.
