Alfred Burke creeps around uncredited, as mysterious chauffeur Heinrich, in 1963 thriller The Man Who Finally Died
#fave spotting#alfred burke#the man who finally died#public eye#frank marker#@thisbluespirit#(i know you like to see his face)#alas he has no closeups#and as mentioned isn't even credited‚ tho his character is called Heinrich in dialogue#actually quite a lot of the cast go uncredited in this‚ even those (like alfie) who have more than one scene and get actual dialogue#just the key players are named in the opening titles#like quite a few other british films of this era this was based on a short tv serial‚ also written by the films writer Lewis Greifer and#produced by ATV in 1959; of that series the only returning cast member was Nigel Green‚ who'd actually played the role Alfie#does here on tv‚ but was promoted to a slightly larger supporting part for the film. according to wiki (ikr‚ but why would they lie..) the#series actually exists in the archives in its entirety! alas.. we'll probably never get to see it‚ particularly now network have gone#speaking of‚ i had actually seen this before some years ago but when the news came thru about network this was one of the things i decided#to try and pick up before the stock is all gone; i was tempted to the blu ray release both for the chance to see Alfie in hd (albeit#briefly) and bc one of the extra features is a fascinating sounding episode of Drama 64 starring Stanley Baker#more on that i suspect when i get round to watching it

What does your nickname mean?
I used to be called "lost_spook" in fannish spaces online, but (being a Brit) only found out much much later that 'spook' can be a slur in some places, so then I needed to change it. And thisbluespirit is just a play on that name, plus my favourite colour.
The original name was in reference to Ruth Evershed from Spooks | MI-5, as I made it up when she wasn't in the series, and was a lost 'spook' (spy). (It was for a forum, and all the obvious Ruth related pseuds were taken.)

Send me a fandom and I will tell you meme (if not too late) - SotT (or the Tudors, or both + 5
Shadow of the Tower
5. the scene from it that lives in my head rent free.
All of the hand holding scenes (thanks in no small part to you giffing them). But particularly Elizabeth and Henry comforting each other after Arthur’s death, because it’s historically true, and we get to see a spark in Elizabeth.

This blue gown, designed by Margaret Furse was first worn by Siân Phillips as Gwendolen in the 1964 film Becket. It was used again in the Doctor Who serial The Crusade in the episodes The Knights of Jaffa and The Wheel of Fortune, where it was worn by Jean Marsh as Joanna.

BBC Comedy confirms there will be one more Ghosts Christmas special
There'll be one more visit to Button House in 2023

Having confirmed earlier this year that the much-loved comedy Ghosts would be coming to an end after the upcoming fifth and final series, the team behind the show have today announced that there will in fact be a Christmas special.
The Ghosts team posted on social media: “The final series of Ghosts starts on Friday... but there might be one last present under the Christmas tree this year #BBCGhosts”
Ghosts has become a television highlight of the Christmas period with 2022’s special securing 5.9 million viewers, making it the biggest comedy of the year.
Last year’s Christmas special was warmly received:
Steve Bennett, Chortle – “This adorable comedy has quickly become a Christmas staple.”
Carol Midgley, The Times – “That the former Horrible Histories team continues to make something genuinely funny that appeals equally to adults and children in this era signifies a truly rare skill.”
Rebecca Nicholson, The Guardian – “We’re all better off with this joyful sitcom in our lives.”
David Craig, Radio Times – “Ghosts is still among the most purely fun shows on British television, but this year's festive episode packs a heavy punch by acknowledging the utter tragedy in its premise.”
The fifth and final series of Ghosts starts Friday 6 October at 8.30pm on BBC One and will be available as a boxset on BBC iPlayer.

Day 8 of 12 Days of Fandom

For day 8 of 2024 fandom highlights, I'm switching things up with a sweet -- literally -- Doctor Who fic recommendation. Sweet Danger is a short and sweet story about ominous cupcakes. It's by @thisbluespirit
Just try to read it without craving cupcakes. Maybe have some kind of pastry nearby to tide you over if you have a sweet tooth!

Ten First Lines Game
Rules: Share the first lines of ten of your most recent fanfics and then tag ten people. Don't have ten? Not to worry, just share what you have.
No Strings on Me (Blake's 7) When I entered the cell he was lying in bed, staring at the ceiling. Deliberately ignoring me, deliberately insolent. Well, it was quite congruent with what we knew about his psychological profile.
One Reliable Flaw (Blake's 7) At first, it appeared that Cally had made a quick recovery after her ordeal on Centero. It was as though the memories of Travis and his interrogators hadn't troubled her at all, as though she had easily left it all behind and moved on.
A Triptych in Blue (Blake's 7) We teleported to a lush green valley, where the representatives of the local communities were waiting for us. A huge marble slab dominated the landscape, commemorating the names of the resistance fighters who had died a year earlier in the war for independence.
The Use of Memory (Blake's 7) "Zen," Blake asked. "Is there any further data on the mutated strain of Delta 706 pathogen?" "Negative information."
Circle 9 (Blake's 7) When it finally started, it seemed like nothing out of the ordinary; just one of our usual exchanges. I pressed the com link and counted the seconds until I heard a drowsy voice answering, "Blake".
Wintering (Blake's 7) "Mind your step now," Michal said. "These stones are slippery. The snow's still melting on this side of the mountain."
Evidence (Blake's 7) Ushton opened the door of his apartment to see his nephew standing in the hall. "Roj? What are you doing here?"
Of Butterflies (Blake's 7) For a moment everything is quiet, and I drop on one of the empty beds, face down, clutching the tattered sheets with a shudder of complete exhaustion. I'm not trying to fall asleep; I know it would be too risky.
A Dream Deferred (Blake's 7) Straining his eyes, looking through the bars down the dark corridor, Gan watched Blake leave noiselessly. He still couldn't believe that he had just seen him here, in the temple on Cygnus Alpha.
That I Live (Blake's 7) The shooting is now over, but my nerves are still on edge, and the dead silence which has replaced the noise of gunshots doesn't bring any relief.

Me, watching Glorious 39 (after a decade of being all "Well that looks like a cast of everyone i like in one place"):
a) lol, even so that is a ridiculous dinner party to just assemble in a tent - oh, let's just have Bill Nighy, Romola Garai, David Tennant, Jenny Agutter, Eddie Redmayne & Jeremy Northam why not.
and
b) David Tennant you are so going to be murdered before this film goes any further, aren't you? That's why I hadn't even noticed you were in it.
