Is it just us, or are other people seeing this kind of thing...?
Tumblr media
[SFX: DRAMATIC STING—DUM DUM DUMMMMMMM!]
Is this a local phenomenon, or are other people's weather outlets framing their weather headlines in increasingly clickbait-y style meant to raise the general anxiety level?
Here's the rest of the newspaper-generated copy associated with the current weather report. (I'm not linking to it: they can get their clicks somewhere else.)
Met Eireann has issued a five-day heat alert for Ireland, warning of rising temperatures as the country finally enjoys a period of dry and settled weather. Thermometers could read 22C in parts today and are set to rise "by the day" peaking at nearly 25C by Monday. The weekend's forecast also promises to be mostly dry, with just a few patches of light rain or drizzle. But don't get too comfortable - as the national forecaster has flagged a possible ominous twist in what could follow the warm spell. While long-range forecasts are notoriously subject to change, at this stage, the meteorological agency says there's a chance the weather will take a terrible turn.
...You ready for it? Brace yourselves—
It said: "Some uncertainty and possibly unsettled beyond Monday".
...FFS. [Insert OLDER WOMAN SHAKING FIST AT CLOUD.]
(laughter) Seriously. For the edification of the readership, I append here the rest of the OMG OMINOUS 111!!11 forecast... so you can see what, for some poor overworked headline writer at the Mirror, is being made to pass for high drama around here. Warning: beware of overloaded verbs.
In the meantime, Met Eireann has alerted (!!!) that Ireland will enjoy at least five days of mild weather as warm air engulfs (!!!!) the country. At present, Sunday looks to be the best day, as compared to other days, it offers the best combination of warm temperatures and sunny spells.
Oh wow, blessed relief from the overwhelming tension. I'm skipping the Thursday and Friday predictions.
Giving day-by-day breakdown of what to expect over the coming days, Met Eireann said: "...Sunny spells at first Saturday along with a few light showers before turning cloudier through the morning with some patchy light rain or drizzle developing, mainly for Atlantic counties. Highest temperatures of 16C to 21C , coolest for Atlantic coastal areas, in light to moderate southwesterly winds, fresher for a time in the west and northwest. Cloudy and humid Saturday night with just a few spots of light rain or drizzle. Temperatures not falling below 11C to 15C in light westerly or variable breezes. "Rather cloudy to begin Sunday with a few spots of light rain or drizzle. Sunny spells will gradually develop along with some scattered. Highest temperatures of 18C to 23C in a mostly light southwesterly breeze. "A warm day Monday with a mix of cloud and sunny spells, especially in the south and east. A few showers will likely develop. Highest temperatures of 20C to 24C generally in light breezes. "Some uncertainty and possibly unsettled weather in the further outlook."
(eyeroll) I was going to read the weather forecast anyway, you know? They didn't need to scare me into it.
Though what's probably actually terrifying them is the possibility that I might just go to the Met Eireann website and read the forecast for free. Without the ads and the dramatic language. Especially without the ads. :)
ETA: Oh wait, I forgot to post this one. Check this out.

It's supposed to reach 70F / 21C today.
It's raining.
The temperature is supposed to drop to 20F/-6C tonight, creating icy conditions.
Then it's supposed to dump 10 inches of snow, with 50 to 60 mph winds.
Then the next day it's supposed to be 70F/21C again. Warm and sunny.
I can't take it.
🙃

Been struggling to get my footing with exercise and nutrition since Costa Rica. It's been over a month now but I still just feel kind of deflated and the self-discipline isn't strong enough yet to take over for the lack of motivation. I didn't continue my weed break when we got back like I had intended (I'm at least happy I succeeded in my Costa Rica goal, but yeah), so I don't think that's helping either lol. But I'm always at least trying to not be hard on myself or feel guilty, as my therapist has trained me; it's a completely internal thing and it literally always applies, so I can always give myself grace when I can't do anything else. Also trying to remember that I was on antibiotics for 3 weeks too, another reason for grace. But after a month, I'm wanting to get back into things before progress starts getting lost!
Trying to think of how I can pivot a little (or a lot) in what I'm doing - at the very least I need to switch up the exercises I do when lifting. But also I want to try out some different stuff like gym classes for cardio or get back into hiking or start focusing more on just steps or ride my bike more.... Lots of options. 🤔 But switching things up and letting myself follow my heart on what I feel like doing will help me find the motivation elsewhere rather than trying to force it for the same thing.
It's sunny and 70F/21C today and I am absolutely living for it. 😩🙌🏼 Clouds/rain come back starting tomorrow for a bit, but the end of next week/next weekend is still looking amazing (mid-70s!!). IT'S HAPPENING PEOPLE. SPRING IS COMING. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. 🌱🌷☀️ Plus sunset will be after 7pm in a couple days! 🥲😍
Btw the concert last night was the first one we've had since November!! That's so long for us lol. It was good to get back to, besides the fact that I maybe perhaps kinda accidentally got way too drunk... 🫠 Not cute lol. Should've eaten more. And skipped the last double. 🙃 But my bf and bff took care of me at least and I don't feel too bad today at all luckily. And before things went downhill, it was a great time and fun to hang out with my bff who I don't necessarily see super often.

How is climate and temperature in Pridaxus?
This varies by country to country but this is about the gist
Ignore that there is no science to it pretend like there is (closer to the center and more north tends to be warmer than the south and further from the center)
Glimmerier
Your typical 4 seasons, very hot summers and winters where its cold enough to snow. During Spring and fall its like 70F/21C.
Elvenwick
There is no really summer or spring or winter, it can snow @ any point if the year, plants dont really like bloom or anything. The months when its supposed to be summer dont exceed 50F/10C, winters can be as cold as -40F/-40C. The sun doesn’t shine there often, mostly rain or snow
Amphinis
There really isnt a winter or spring, its vert hot all year round (some of the eastern islands can have a little snow). Typically in the eastern islands the temperatures do not drop below 70F/21C. Some places it rains but is usually very sunny and dry
Idealps
There isnt really a summer or spring, especially for those on the mountains. Typically the temperature goes between 0F/-17C and 70F/21C. Some places are in near constant snow some in constant rain, most places shift between

Have you ever broken someone's heart: I have unfortunately and while it wasn't intentional I definitely could've handled the situation better. But also in hindsight it was a bad relationship so I don't feel too bad about it ope
Do you believe everything happens for a reason: mmm I'm gunna go with no? I think it's comforting to believe in a greater power or fate or whatever that dictates the world and each of us in it but honestly I think the universe doesn't care enough so we're all on our own. But what that DOES mean is infinite posibilites to create the world we want on either a macro or micro scale. I like the idea of free will too much to be comfortable with any variant of predestination/predetermination.
Is cheating ever ok: oof so if we're being EXTREMELY black and white I'm gunna come down on the side of NO - JUST TALK TO YOUR PARTNER. But the wiggle room is that if it's like, in cases of abusive relationships or situations with very little agency I'm gunna say yes but those feel like outliers to this question so I'm gunna come down again on the "no".
Favorite weather: Sunny! With like 70F/21C ish weather and very little humidity. Perfect outdoor weather imo. Warm enough to go without sleeves but cold enough not to die when you're sweating up a storm

Bonjour et bienvenue. It’s another sunny Sunday here in Bar-sur-Aube, 19c expecting 21c so perfect for whatever I plan to do today.
Friday evening I was in town to see the Halloween Parade. I spotted people I knew, my physiotherapist, some of my refugee ladies, my old mechanic, his wife and daughter plus the staff from the Maison Pour Tous. I called into the little supermarket in town and they had a basket of sweets ready to distribute to the children. It really is lovely to see.
What a day yesterday!! I went into town bright and early to buy my fruit, vegetables and newspaper, my head was feeling even woozier than it has been for the last couple of weeks, so I just returned home instead of calling for a coffee. I got home and was baking, macaroon topped mincemeat tarts ready for Xmas, a mushroom tart, which I was going to have for my lunch, I was preparing cake topped stewed rhubarb and planned on making a lemon drizzle cake. Anyway, ate some mushroom tart, was on the phone, when suddenly the pain and pressure in my ear forced me to touch my face and 😳 it was swollen, huge behind my ear and the pain was going up the side of my face. I came off the phone and was in a complete tizzy, thinking all kinds of terrible things. I saw my neighbour was at home so went there to ask what I should do! By this time my head was pounding, I felt I couldn’t see properly and when they suggested going as an emergency to the hospital I asked if someone would take me (couldn’t trust myself to drive). Anyway long story short…. we had to ring 15 (Urgence) I gave my surname and the man at the other end said my first name (do they pick that up from the phone number?) after finding out the problem he put me through to the on-call doctor. Fortunately, I know her and was able to speak in English. We were told to go the the surgery and she would see me. I quickly packed a bag (well better to be prepared). Blood pressure and temperature were ok and she concluded that it could be a blocked salivary gland. Anyway, I am going for blood tests (yes again) on Monday (hopefully), just to check it is nothing else. My neighbour brought me home, called early evening to see that I was OK and then this morning his wife came round to check I had had a good night and was feeling ok. How very kind 😁.
One of my refugee ladies delivered her baby on Monday 17th, she has called him Martin. I messaged to see if she was ok and was surprised that he had arrived, as hospital had said she was due in November. She said he has had the hat and bootees on, I really must finish stitching up another hat for the lady who was expecting a girl. I imagine she has had her by now too.
Pauline messaged and gave me the name of the roofer who replaced her grandmother’s roof. I rang and left a message, then I sent a message. He rang me the following day and said he would call to have a look on Friday, guess what he did too! I asked if it was a big job and one guy (spoke some English) said it wasn’t. Hopefully the price is right and it will solve this problem once and for all!
Didn’t get my cake made last Sunday and mid afternoon Anie rang to say she had a pumpkin for me and would call round. I quickly took cheese scones and coffee cake out of the freezer and they were all defrosted by the time she arrived.
Called at the Social Security office (again) to check to see what to do with the “bon de transport” for my trip to Nancy. Until my Carte Vitale is re-opened I cannot book a taxi….. I need to stay calm and just hope that all is resolved by the first Thursday in November (otherwise I may just have a meltdown!)
This coming week, the lady who is going to clean my home, will be arriving for the first time. She is coming at 9am so I had better set a few alarms so that I am up and ready for her. It’s just to help me out and knowing me I will probably do half if the work before she comes, but it will just make things easier and will mean I can get outside more 😉
So when you are in such a tizzy it is nice to be able to wander around the garden checking out all the beautiful plants still flowering. I have (fingers crossed) taken some cuttings of œillets and coleus. I cut the grass, I love it when it is just done. I checked on the peonies in the pots, although there is not much to show at the moment there are some shoots just under the compost so I am hoping for grand things from them next year. I ❤️ my garden……
My granddaughter went to her first football match yesterday, Scarborough v Spennymoor. Unfortunately, “The Daddy”and her had to leave at half time as it was too noisy for her. I am sure she will go to another match at some point, it was nice that “The Daddy” took her.
Wow, things are stepping up for “The Paralegal” now too, he is about to embark on the next phase of his life, he is excited (he is not the only one) although it’s a big leap into the unknown. Well we all have to make a leap at sometime, which is something I have tried to instil into my children. We all love the comfort of “familiar” but it’s great to start to write a whole new page.
So this week I have chosen a poem which is described as, to be recited to relieve stress/anxiety.
An excerpt from Up-Hill by Christina Rossetti
“Does the road wind up-hill all the way?
Yes, to the very end.
Will the day’s journey take the whole long day?
From morn to night, my friend.”

Bon dimanche!

Must-See Digital Nomad Hotspots in North America
Tumblr media
Playa Del Carmen, Mexico
This bustling resort town is located on the Yucatan Peninsula and attracts tourists because of its white sand beaches and clear blue waters.
The temperature is pleasant year-round, with the mercury going as high as 28C in December and a lower end of 21C.
If you are intent on escaping the winter, this is a fantastic destination with beach-worthy weather.
There is a good co-working and cafe scene in Playa, and digital nomads are catered to quite heavily, with gluten-free food being common and high-quality coffees readily available.
It isn’t high on the list for providing an authentic experience of Mexico. However, if you are looking for somewhere with fast and reliable Wi-Fi, friendly people, good facilities to work from, and excellent beach and surf possibilities, you have come to the right place.
The nightlife is also notable, with several excellent clubs located on the busy tourist strip on Quinta Avenida.
It is known for being a party town, so it may not be perfect for those looking for a quieter, more sedate lifestyle.
In terms of coworking, there are some excellent options, including Nest, which is fairly centrally located, and Work Zone Coworking, for those who require a quieter space to work.
Tumblr media
San Francisco, USA
An iconic destination in its own right, San Francisco is one not to be missed, particularly by the LGBTQ+ community.
Everyone has seen the classic films with car chases on the steeply banked streets leading down to the harbour, and they are truly worth seeing in person.
The whole vibe of San Francisco is fabulous; there is a real buzz in the air, and there is so much to do and see.
The Golden Gate Bridge is a particular landmark, and any visitors should definitely try out the street trolleys that still trundle up and down its steep streets.
Known for being a technology hub, you are likely to meet many people who work for some of the big internet companies, such as Apple and Google.
San Francisco offers all the amenities provided by a big city. These include extremely fast internet speeds, high-quality cafes to work from and food choices in abundance.
San Francisco caters well for people who are into healthy living and wellness, with a plethora of gluten-free options available and options for even the most restrictive diets.
The only real downside is the cost compared to many other places, particularly those in Mexico. San Francisco is a premium destination in the USA, and this is definitely reflected in the cost of rentals.
Tumblr media
Vancouver, Canada
Our only Canadian entry on the list, Vancouver consistently leads charts for quality of life and for liveability, and it is easy to see why.
Boasting extensive parks within the city, Vancouver is very green and an excellent space for those who enjoy walking in the shade of the trees on a sunny day.
Vancouver is known for being very culturally open and welcoming to newcomers, with friendly locals and diversity in both food and the arts.
Vancouver is the classic mix of beaches, mountains, parkland, and downtown corporate office spaces.
There is something for everyone, all of the time. If you have always wanted to go to a nudist beach, you can do so easily here.
If you would prefer to mountain bike or surf, you can do that too. z
The activities change with the seasons, so those more inclined to winter sports can schedule their stay accordingly and take advantage of the snowboarding and skiing opportunities nearby.
There is a range of different accommodation options and some of the best are the coliving spaces, as these can minimise the cost in what would otherwise be quite an expensive city.
Tumblr media
Austin, Texas, USA
Despite being the Capital of one of the most Conservative states in the USA, Austin leans very heavily Liberal and is safe and welcoming for LGBTQ+ people who might be thinking of visiting. It is also considered to be very female-friendly and racially tolerant.
The live music capital of the USA, Austin has always something going on, and it has a really great vibe that many people seem to enjoy.
The internet is fast and stable here, and Austin is considered a bit of a tech hub. Because of this, there are a large number of places to work from.
Epoch and Industrious Austin are two of the best coworking places. Each has its pros and cons, so it depends on what you are looking for in your workspace.
Austin is one of the more expensive places on the list to spend some time because it is located in the USA. However, the cultural richness of the experience and the natural beauty of the surroundings make it worthwhile.
It may be best to avoid the summers when the temperature reaches an unbearable 38C, but other times of the year are more temperate.
Tumblr media
Tulum, Mexico
The second on the list in Mexico, Tulum has a radically different vibe from Playa del Carmen, one that is more attuned to spirituality and wellness rather than partying hard.
It’s a lot quieter and more suitable for those seeking a chilled, laid-back vibe. Tulum is situated on the Caribbean coast and has gorgeous white sands.
It was built upon the ruins of an ancient Mayan settlement, which can still be seen today.
Tulum is particularly well-served by coworking spaces, some of the best of which are Coworking Tulum, which provides access to over 20 locations throughout the town, and Los Amigos Cowork.
When it comes to coliving, there is also an excellent range of options from independents like Ko’Muna Tulum.
This company bills itself as “Community Living in Paradise” and is situated right between the beach and the jungle in gorgeous, well-kept accommodation.
Other players in the coliving space include the larger chains like Selina and Outsite.
There is a wide range of accommodation options for those who would rather not stay at a coliving, everything from entire apartments to bunk beds in hostels.
It is possible to find somewhere to stay for a few hundred dollars per month, making Tulum a very attractive option, even for those on a tight budget.
