🦋😱Akuma Idea: Horror Themed Akuma😱🦋
Okay, here's another akumatized villain concept that I have been thinking over for a while. Now hear me out. I know that the Miraculous Ladybug franchise has already featured a few horror-themed akumatized villains......
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Or three? Huh....I thought there'd be more. Anyway, that's not important. For this akumatized villain, I thought that this villain would have powers, weapons, and design elements based on characters from horror movies.
For the character design, I was thinking that the villain would have pale skin and long black hair that gets in her face like the girl from "The Ring". They will also have stitches along the corners of their mouth and wear black mascara around their eyes.
Tumblr media
As for her outfit, she would wear a straight jacket, which I'm either thinking could have a mess of different dark colors on it or have scarlet blood splatters all over it. Or it could just be a plain yet worn-out straightjacket. Honestly, I had the villain "Terminal" from Batman Beyond in mind when I decided to give them a straight jacket as part of their costume. I am also planning on giving the black pants with holes in them and black combat boots as part of their design.
Tumblr media
As for the villain's eye color, I'm still deciding on whether I want to give them all red eyes or do multiple colors. I do plan on giving them three eyes, with the third eye being located on the base of their forehead. Kind of like Garnet or Hiei, but this third eye is more than just for show. It actually ties into one of her powers that I will get into more detail about later.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Powers:
So the thing about this villain, is that some of their powers are connected to certain horror artifacts and/or characters. Though not every power can be used at once and a few of the powers are activated when the villain is using specific items. For example:
Jason Hockey Mask:
This akuma will have something akin to Captain America's shield, except smaller and shaped like Jason's Hockey Mask. The shield/mask is indestructible and can repel and deflect the attacks from the Miraculous superheroes with ease. It also has an additional use for allowing the akuma to breathe underwater when they are wearing the mask on their face (ironic, huh?).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Freddy Kruger Gloves:
On their own, they are just ordinary leather gloves. However once this akuma puts the gloves on their hands, they can grow metal claws like Freddy Kruger that can also retract at will like Wolverine's metal claws.
Tumblr media
A Ring:
Okay, I know there wasn't a literal jewelry ring in the movie "The Ring", but I thought this would be a cool concept nonetheless. Basically, when the akuma is wearing this ring, they will able to possess and pass through any electronics that have a screen of their choosing (TVs, computers, iPads, phones, etc.).
Tumblr media
Wrist Corsage
Every rose has its thorns and this beautiful bracelet is no exception. Like Carrie from the movie of the same name, wearing this corsage gives the akuma the power of telekinesis, which allows them to move objects or people or set stuff on fire with their mind.
Tumblr media
Now for her final power (yes, I know I have already given her a lot. Shadow Moth was feeling very generous this time when he made this akuma. Like I said though, she can't use all of these powers at once, well except for this power.). This last power involves the akuma's eyes, especially the third eye. Her strongest and most horrifying power that this akuma possesses is the power to make anyone who looks into her eyes hallucinate their worst fears/nightmares, causing them both severe psychological and emotional trauma that incapacitate them by paralyzing them with fear, giving them panic attacks, or causing them to have a mental breakdown as their intense screams and feelings of terror fuel the akuma's power. The third eye acts as an amplifier for the fear-induced hallucinations, meaning that the more people that the akuma terrorizes, the stronger the hallucinations and the akuma become. Now I bet you can imagine all the different types of fear-induced hallucinations each one of the Miraculous heroes could face when fighting against this akumatized villain, who's civilian identity is none other than:
Noelle Odeja!
Tumblr media
The details regarding how she got akumatized are still in the works with the story, but let's just say that someone messed with the wrong girl! Time for her to show the world how much of a "horror freak" she truly is. I'm thinking about making the akumatized object her backpack or something, will also carry her power items in it when they are not in use (though that idea is subject to be scrapped if I think of any better ideas).
As far as the name of this akuma, I still haven't decided on one yet. I was thinking of something like "Frightmare", "Freak Show", or maybe even "Horror Show". IDK. I'm not that great with naming villains or heroes. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm open to them.
Anyway, let me know what y'all think about this akumatized villain. Feel free to voice your opinions, thoughts, theories, or any suggestions you might have on how this villain could be improved upon (I might have made her too OP. Let me know if I need to tone the powers down a bit).

Hakuoki Drama CD Hijikata Biyori Travel Edition Return to Kyoto "Falling Momiji Leaves"
Well, my eyes are better now... though I'm sorta thinking that whatever has been happening is some kind of chronic condition. In that case, there's not really a choice but to deal with the discomfort when it happens.
Also, I know this is a week late... but I got pretty busy once my eyes got better so I didn't exactly have time to translate last week because of family stuff (plus it didn't help that this felt long to work on). Still, I'll try and put something else out to make up for that... somehow?
Anyway, enjoy!
Hakuoki Radio Drama Hijikata Biyori Travel Edition Return to Kyoto "Falling Momiji Leaves"
Translation by KumoriYami
Toudou: Hijikata-san, Hajime-kun, you two are too slow!
Hijikta: Hey, Heisuke, don't be so excited. The momiji [Japanese red maple leaves] won't run away. ay. Speaking of which, why did we come to Yasaka Shrine to see the momiji? If you're going to talk about momiji, you should be going to places like Arashiyama and Mount Hiei.
Saito: Indeed. And although the sakura blossoms at the Yasaka Shrine are said to be gorgeous, there are no such perceptions of its momiji.
Toudou: Hijikta-san, Hajime-kun, this way, this way, it's great! Hurry up!
Hijikata: Ooh, this really is spectacular.
Saito: Hm... it appears those perceptions were wrong.
Toudou: Ah, it's amazing——to be able to see such beautiful momiji at night. Yasaka Shrine looks completely different. Hijikata: Ah, that's right. With so many lights hanging, it's almost as if the mountin forest is aflame/forest fire [???].
Saito: Yes. With so many lights lit and so many tourists, it wouldn't be surprising if a fire broke out.
Hijikata: It's not that. I wanted to say that the red leaves and the lights are as bright as a wildfire. Tsk, however, with so many lanterns, it's true that if there is a fire, the consequences will be disasterous.
Toudou: Wa-Wait, don't say such scary things. These opportunities to enjoy ourselves are hard to come by.
Hijikata: I'm satisfied with being able to see the momiji. Saito, Heisuke, you two can go to the shrine and pay your respects.
Saito: In that case, I'll stay here too.
Toudou: What the heck! Seriously, Hijikata-san and Hajime-kun are so heartless. How can you say that? After all, the three of us obviously came together, so it be dull if I went myself.
Hijikata: Oh, ha… that's true. Even though we've walked onto the Yasaka Shrine grounds, it'd be unreasonable for us to not pay our respects.
Saito: As you say.
Toudou: Okay!
Hijikata: Ah, sorry, give me a sec.
Toudou: Ah, sorry, sorry, it's fine.
Saito: Escuse me. Please let me pass.
Toudou: ah, ya... ah...
Hijikata: Hey, what's wrong, Heisuke?
Toudou: Ah… the strap broke. Eh wait, I'll fix it right away.
Hijikata: Ah… it's harder to get there than I anticipated.
Saito: This street can ordinarily be walked over in an instant, so it's probably becaue of ll these people.
Hijikata: How about Heisuke, you still going?
Toudou: I said that I'd be going――
Kazama: Hey――don't stop in a place like this. Get out the way, bumpkin.
Toudou: Huh?――
Hijikata: You guys/bastard, I was wondering who it was, and it turned out to be Kazama.
Kazama: So what if it is.
Toudou: Huh… you're unlucky to have in run into. That's it for the momiji viewing.
Kazama: Oh~ the Shinsengumi are useless, rude dogs wherever they go. This is a place to enjoy the momiji, not a place to draw swords.
Hijikta: Che, Damn it... Hey, Heisuke, if something happens in a place with this many people, it will be impossible to control the situation.
Toudou: Ah, yes, I know.
Hijikata: But you've got a lot of guts to be walking alone at night.
Toudou: The people we came with probably got separated by the crowds.
Kazama: Boring/How stupid. I simply came by myself, that's all.
Toudou: What a surprise, you're a unexpectedly lonely person.
Kazama: Lonely is it… what a good thing to say. It is not an exaggeration to say that it's tactic for powerless humans. You aren't even able to take a step forward without being in a group. The same word should be used to describe those around you.
Saito: It's time for our question.
Kazama: Question?
Saito: I don't believe that you'd speak to us for no reason.
Kazama: I said it at the start. You people were blocking my way forward.
Hijikata: Ah, so it was like that. That's really embarrassing. Let's go,
Saito, Heisuke.
Toudou: Huh?
Saito: Yes.
Hijikata: Kazama, you also come to the Yasaka Shrine to pay your respects. right? There are so many people, so just obediently follow us.
Toudou: Huh? ! What are you saying, Hijikata-san! Since this guy came by himself, just leave him alone.
Kazama: Why do I have to follow you people?
Hijikata: There's only one road to the shrine, so just obediently follow us.
---
Toudou: Wooh~ ah, we're finally out.
Saito: The crowd seems to have thinned out in this area.
Hijikata: Yeah, I guess the sunshine is not as bright in this area. Look, the leaves are already starting to wither.
Toudou: Before I realized it, it hda been getting hotter and hotter, and now leaves have started to fall. It looks like it's going to get cold soon.
Kazama: From now on, it will be just like winter, and you'll be ushered into a cold period.
Saito: The change isn't something that you decide.
Kazama: People who are unable to reality are worse thn animals.
Hijikata: It’s not that we ignore reality. It’s equally painful/bittersweet, we all know that a harsh winter is coming.
Toudou: But that isn't a big deal.
Kazama: Hm, it seems like you guys don’t understand anything. For those of you who only believe in and look to the Shogunate, it will truly be a harsh winter henceforth.
Saito: You are the one who doesn't understand. What we are saying is that the we're already aware [of the situtation | more literally this is "we've already been enlighted"].
Toudou: And we won’t do anything like spending the whole winter hiding in a warm bed. The harshness of winter has nothing to do with us.
Kazama: So much confidence. You are the examples of typical stupid humans who rely on baseless self-confidence without acknowledging their own weakness. However, that is consistent with your lines of thought. Since I am here, I'd like to ask, why are you, who re so powerless, not afraid of the harsh winter?
Hijikata: There's no such thing. Because when winter ends, the flowers will bloom.
Kazama: What.
Hijikata: You heard what I said. Aren't the sakura at the Yasaka Shrine dazzling in the spring? If it was spring, it will be as crowded as it is today, and everyone would be enjoying the flowers with smiles on their faces. Yet those beautiful flowers are inferior to the sakura. That's enough, isn't it? So, no matter how harsh or long the winter is, we will only move forward with the belief in the coming spring.
Kazama: Che, stop joking. It seems that it was wrong to communicate with you through any other method than the sword/blade.
Hijikata: Huh, really? I'm surprised that you're so eloquent. But that's where the mutual jokes end. The next time we meet, let's bring this to a close.
Kazama: The next time we meet, I'll have you all bowing/prostrating on the ground.
Hijikata: We really came across a strange guy. Let's change the mood, and continue enjoying the momiji! Heisuke, Saito, can you still walk?
Toudou: Of course!
Saito: It goes without saying.
HIjikata: Haha, yeah. Then let's go.
-----end-----

Yu Yu Hakusho (Reviewing 25 years later)
This anime is like a forgotten gem. It doesn’t come to mind as #1 first but when mentioned everyone goes oh yea that was like one of the best anime’s of all time. I feel like most anime’s don’t have the same level of action, adventure, comedy, drama, and growth that this show offered. Whether you watch it as a kid for action & childish humor or as an adult for the deeper drama, life lessons and adult humor, it’s great across generations and across time whether you watched it as a kid in the 90s/00s or now in 2021.
Let me simplify it because there’s so much in-depth analysis I could go into.
Ratings per Arc/Saga:
Spirit Detective - 8/10
Dark Tournament - 10/10
Chapter Black - 8/10
Three Kings - 7/10
Deeper Analysis:
Spirit Detective - Honestly this arc had amazing parts to it, introducing the main characters, slowly improving enemies, and setting up for the Dark Tournament. I love the intro and how Yusuke has to undergo his ordeal showing his relationship with Kuwabara, Keiko, his mother, Boton, Koenma and everyone else around him. We’re introduced to a brat who doesn’t really belong but slowly finds his place and purpose starting here as Spirit Detective. I loved the deeper stories with introducing Hiei and Kurama. The introduction of Genkai was amazing, it showed there’s different aspects of growing and trying to master spirit energy. I only wish that section was a bit longer, maybe just 2-3 episodes of more unique competitors. The Spirit Beasts section is what made it a tad lackluster. This is their first real mission to spirit world and the abilities of the 4 spirit beasts just felt somewhat limited to me. Especially the fire-tiger beast, his tenacity just became annoying at some point. This is what dropped the Spirit Detective Saga to an 8 for me or else I would’ve made it a 9. The final part is amazing, it brings some backstory to Hiei by introducing her sister and most importantly the Toguro brothers leading to the Dark Tournament.
All together, it’s probably one of the best intro sagas to any anime I’ve seen at least. There’s simplicity but also complexity at the same time depending on how deep you look into it. They didn’t just half ass the action like many of my other favorite action-packed anime (DBZ, Fairy Tail). There’s a lot of mystery, dark moments, and strategy for a supposed kids cartoon for the haters out there.
Dark Tournament - This has to be the best saga in any ever because of the different strategies, emotions, growth, and somehow comedy still added in. I can’t help but re-watch this saga again and again every few years. We start with a mystery question: how much did the main characters grow in strength, abilities, and strategies? Now as a teen then now adult, the masked fighter is obviously Genkai because of the height, outfit and abilities, but as a kid, she was such a mystery for me haha. Anyways we go into the tournament and the committee seems hell bent on pitting everything against Yusuke & friends. I like that though Yusuke’s team comes out on top at the end of each fight, they do lose some individual matches for multiple different reasons. Instead of mindless matches purely on the fighting, we actually learn some backstory about many enemies and our main characters. It didn’t take long either; there wasn’t a ridiculous amount of episodes spent per backstory like Naruto or Fairy Tail. Genkai showed even more wisdom but also understanding of humanity as she knows her time is ending so she passes on her power abilities and most importantly wisdom to her favorite dim-wit. And throughout the story, we get to know more about Genkai and Toguro’s backstory and how power, morals and unfortunate events can change one’s future. The part that most people forget is the final episodes of the Dark Tournament: Toguro has been and wants to continue punishing himself. He actually does care for Genkai and Yusuke. He knows Yusuke has greater potential to grow into something great but needs proper and sometimes drastic measures and guidance to do so.
This saga had an amazing start, several related series of actions in the middle and a proper explanation at the end for many questions we had. On top of all that we’re left clues to the next arc, subtle clues you don’t realize until the next arc comes around. Episode 66, was shocking, Koenma actually granted Yusuke’s wish for his mentor and friend to be revived to live until the end of her life in peace as much as possible.
Chapter Black - This saga was great. You really don’t know what it is until it’s fully explained. We all know there were stronger demons deeper in spirit world. But something deeper darker is coming and it’s crazy because after 66 episodes we realized we never wondered about a previous Spirit Detective. What happened to that one? Now we get a trio of test spiritually aware humans just to test Yusuke & Kuwabara, but the really interesting part is when Sensui and his team is brought in. A few abilities were obvious but others were so mysterious with a constant ominous presence and heartbeat music looming over. What is each unique opponent’s abilities and what is Sensui’s background and end goal? His multiple personalities each containing yet even more unique abilities with his desire for an open tunnel into the depths of Spirit World for A/S class demons is insane. It seems impossible for Yusuke to win here even with Kuwabara’s sacrifice again. But wow what a reveal that he does have a secret demon king lineage in his blood. I both love and hate this at the same time. It feels like a cop-out but also explains everything at the same time. It’s like Super Saiyan in DBZ but different because at least here it took until the 3rd Saga and several arcs to reveal it. I guess in the overall scheme of things it’s like having Dragonball before Dragonball Z. Anyways the ending is amazing as we see them fight and find out just why Sensui wanted this all along as well as his gay partner’s obsession over him.
This was a great saga with a truly ominous back story and I love it. The only reason I keep it rated at 8/10 is unfortunately it happens right after the best saga ever in the Dark Tournament. At this point, power scaling and the use of demon king lineage in Yusuke just unfortunately puts the rating here. And we already know what the next saga is about for sure. There’s nothing left to really explore.
Three Kings - Here we go, the finale of Yu Yu Hakusho. We know Yusuke is of demon king lineage so of course he’s going to go train in Demon World. Hiei and Kurama obviously would follow along. Now with everything being obvious, why is it still interesting? Somehow the writers/producers of Yu Yu Hakusho find a way to bring even more back story in appropriate timing without it becoming filler. Learning about the deep ancient history of Raizen vs Yomi vs Mukuro shows how even as demons they have a human aspect: Raizen who ended up loving a human, Yomi who had a child and history with Kurama, and Mukuro with her tragic backstory that led to an odd relationship with Hiei. The ending is great with yet another tournament. As a kid, I wished they had a full tournament arc, but decades later I realized how much sense it makes that they didn’t show us the whole tournament, just key battles and how no one in our main crew won. Yusuke, Kurama and Hiei still has much to learn and grow. Yomi and Mukuro’s time has passed. A new brighter future awaits the demon world. Yusuke finally gets his happy ending with Keiko.
This final saga unfortunately because of its timing and closure gets a rating of 7/10. For an ending it’s great and I’m not sure how to improve it. That’s why I’m not a producer/writer haha. But it is definitely amazing and I appreciate it. Yusuke went from a kid/teen to a young adult. The story we came to know and love is over and he did NOT end up obsessed like Toguro. He didn’t choose the demon life. He also didn’t choose a psychic path like Genkai. He chose his own path with his friends in the human world continuing as spirit detective but living as close to a normal life as possible. I love this ending, The ending and whole narrative makes me give this show a 10/10. Yes I know they released 2 specials in 2018 but why not that’s a small treat for us fans. They can do specials maybe every decade or so. I don’t actually want them to do a new continued series like Dragonball Super. Let the original show be what it is and be remembered in history as one of the most unique shows with catchy theme songs. Also the Eng dub is actually good haha. Listen carefully for the adult humor hidden in the show if you’re re-watching it. You likely didn’t understand every NSFW joke as a kid. I know I didn’t haha.

Thotty Thursday: Part One
There ain’t no goddamn way I could start something like this and not come out swinging with the top dog. The heavy weight champ. My personal creme de la creme. The character who started it all and made me what I am today. That’s right, I blame all this thotty shit on this demon man right here.
Tumblr media
“Holy blast from the past, Batman!” You cry out in dismay. “What is this, some 80’s shit!?”
I’ll have you know Yu Yu Hakusho is all 90’s, baby. Just like me. 😤
So let me tell y’all a little bit about my number one husbando. He’s perfect, for starters. Like, I’d challenge you to name one thing Hiei ever did wrong, ever.
You know what, never mind. Let’s not get into that right now.
Okay, I admit my dude has a bit of a harried past and he’s not ever always the nicest but that gives him depth. Range. He CAN go deep and he WILL.
If you catch my drift 👀
So when this bite sized snack was first introduced in the narrative he was all bad. Like bad bad. At just a glance, there was nothing good or redeeming about him and it wasn’t until later that we find out he’s something of a sympathetic antihero.
His moral alliances didn’t matter to eleven year old me one bit tho, this shit had me straight up fantasizing about becoming a ruthless thief and running off to the demon world with the man who literally knocked me on my ass
And when I say literally I don’t mean figurative, haha ironic literally. I mean literally literally
PHEW please believe that I would betray all y’all for even a single night with Hiei, on god 😩
Did i mention he’s a demon yet?
Yeah, in addition to having the super amazing ability to control fire at will, he also has a very ... eye catching transformation. 👁👁
Tumblr media
Now, I’ve seen even some die hard fangirls reject this form but it really doesn’t bother me. I actually rather like that particular shade of green and I don’t think it detracts from his good looks - if anything it just adds another layer to the evil mysterious bad boy vibe he’s got going on.
You think I wouldn’t throw my pussy in a circle for him just because he’s covered in eyeballs??
Hah
Think again
However I will say having sex in this form would probably be an awkward affair all around. Not only because having that many eyes impassively staring me down might cause a serious case of stage fright, but also because ... those peepers on his chest bout to get poked out by my titties! 😳
I mean, if he’s into that I won’t put up much of a fight
But I personally can’t imagine having a nipple touch your cornea being a very pleasant experience
Anyway
Tumblr media
Can we talk about those gorgeous ruby red eyes on his perfect little face for one gotdamn second please???
I admit, I am weak for a man with red eyes and that’s 100% Hiei’s fault
The only ones that even come close to being as captivating and intense are Senkuu’s (Dr. Stone, for those of you not in the know) but even his don’t hit QUITE as hard as Hiei’s
Can you even begin to imagine how it would feel to have him staring you down in a completely casual setting let alone an intimate one?? 😳
Mark me down as scared AND horny
I especially like how one minute they’ll be sharp, pinpoint dots that just tell you in no uncertain terms he’s out for blood
Tumblr media
Which he usually is but that is neither here nor there
And then the next moment, his eyes are huge and taking up half his face
Tumblr media
It seems like his eyes are at their biggest and most vulnerable looking whenever his sister is involved (which, for the sake of spoilers on a 25+ year old series I will not go into too much) or when he’s particularly eager about something (usually fighting) OR when someone inexplicably manages to appeal to his emotions. And trust me when I say that is a lot easier said than done
Hiei is one of the toughest eggs to crack in my harem but I like the challenge 😤
He’s not all fire and brimstone (mostly but not entirely) and I know he can lay the pipe like a goddamn CHAMP
I know his dick big, I know it is
That’s why he’s so short. All of his nutritional intake went straight to his cock but I can tell just by looking that he’s slanging some grade A meat. Do not fight me on this. I will throw hands to defend his honor and that is not a joke
I’m a strong enough bitch to stand by him even when he’s getting roasted by the squad. I’ve done it before and I’ll do it again.
Ofc that’s not to say he’d just stand there and let them drag him, but the point here is that I’ve got his back and that’s what counts
“But he looks like Vegeta 2.0” you reasonably point out and to that I say “what about it?”
I mean. Can Vegeta do THIS?
Tumblr media
I’m just joking, I was a thirsty little slut over Vegeta too
Short king solidarity ✊😤
His height doesn’t even bother me fr fr tho because 1: I’m about 90% sure he’s still growing by demon standards and his sister is also quite short whereas their mother was a normal height 2: I’m also short so it’s not like I’d be towering over him anyway and 3: some men like taking a girl who’s bigger than them and bending her to their will
And when I say he’s an unchallenged top ... Lord have mercy 🥵
Every encounter with him in or out the bed would be a challenge. Every 👏 single 👏one 👏
But I believe that with enough patience it’s totally possible to chip away at his mile wide walls and I know for a fact he’d be a great (if not slightly yandereish) lover
Protective in a standoffish way, territorial, demanding, strong enough to carry you in one arm while he slashes demons in half with the other, intensely intimate, just the right amount of Demon Crazy to keep the relationship exciting 🤪
Note I said Demon Crazy and not regular ol’ crazy. There IS a difference
Just whatever you do, don’t let this big eyed baby face fool you
Tumblr media
Hiei is not the type to share his toys or let them question who’s in charge. He lacks social finesse in a general sense and his interpersonal skills are ... toeing the negative, to say the least
Plus he’s a demon so his idea of courtship is going to be drastically different from mine. If he decides he wants it then by god he’s gonna take it and I respect that
Tbh I’d anticipate some low key stalking from this dude - the kind that you don’t even notice until it’s much too late and I don’t mean he’d be lingering around every corner or conveniently there each time you turned around. No, that’s too basic for a man like this
Tbh you wouldn’t even know he was there unless he WANTED you to know
You see that third eye he’s sporting?
Tumblr media
It gives him telepathic abilities
That’s right. In addition to controlling fire and having a multi eyed form that should appeal to any self respecting monster fucker, he can ALSO read minds
Y’all
If this man had any idea what I was thinking about him ... 😰
He’d probably kill me for the insolence, let’s not lie
But this is MY romantic fantasy and I say fuck that
He’d be able to keep tabs on you at all hours of the day, any time, anywhere - you wouldn’t even be safe from his ever watchful eye(s) while sleeping and though it’s not an ability canon touched on I see absolutely no reason why he couldn’t telepathically slip into your dreams
A nighttime visit from Hiei? Preferably a horny one? 👀 sign me the fuck up
Tumblr media
Imagine peacefully sawing some logs and fucking around in dreamland when he suddenly appears before you acting like your very presence is a bother
Then why are you here?? I didn’t ask you to come into my dreams, thank you very much
He responds in kind and his pointed jabs just get you more and more riled up until he finally pounces
Absolutely demolishes the pussy
I’m talking put that kitty in the grave
Then when you wake up the first thing you notice is how slick you are between the thighs
“Must’ve been a crazy dream” you mutter like the dummy thicc bitch you are
But when you look down at your sore wrist, you can see faint, blooming splotches in the shape of fingertips and you realize it was all real
A demon fucked you in your sleep and you enjoyed the hell out of it
“I wonder if he accepts frequent flyer miles” 🤔
Tumblr media
How he finna grab the pussy
Like, hello??? Am I the only one thinking about this stuff??
Yes?
Okay then, damn. Guess I’ll just crawl back into my 90’s, smells like teen spirit cave
It’s quite comfy, actually, thanks in no small part to Hiei keeping it nice and toasty for me
The dick helps too

part thirty-seven to this
Eikichi is not a fan of sleeping on the floor, and she’s even less fond of Mr. Stuffingsworth. The teddy bear is at imminent peril of being shoved off Kuwabara’s pillow: that’s her territory.
“No need to be like that,” he says. “I love you both equally.”
Eikichi places a single paw against Mr. Stuffingsworth’s face in silent threat.
“Okay, okay! You’ve forced my hand.” Kuwabara sets Mr. Stuffingsworth on top of his book shelf, safely out of his cat’s jealous reach. “I love you slightly more,” he promises Eikichi.
She knows that, obviously. It’s Kuwabara who needs the reminder.
He pets her head in penance. “What are you going to do if I bring somebody home, huh? You gonna try to scare them off, too?”
She yawns--or maybe she’s showing off her teeth. Either way, the answer is yes, because Kuwabara is hers, first and foremost. Other interested parties wanting to lay a claim must be thoroughly vetted.
“‘Cause there might be someone,” he confesses. “So, I hope you go easy on him, alright?”
She’ll think about it.
Shizuru knocks twice before poking her head in. “I have cookies.” She sweeps into the room with a tray and plops down beside him. His new mattress and bed frame won’t arrive for another two weeks.
“Thanks.” Kuwabara picks up a cookie: chocolate chip and oatmeal, an old favorite. Shizuru’s got a handful of recipes mastered that she can whip up with her eyes closed. His sister’s cooking is comfortable and familiar. Kuwabara’s the one that usually has his nose in a cookbook or plastered to his phone in the kitchen, trying something new.
“Mr. Stuffingsworth, huh? I thought you lost him in third grade.”
“Me, too.“ Turns out he had been misplaced in an alternate dimension.
Eikichi rolls on her back in between them. She deserves a belly pat every time they mention the teddy bear.
Shizuru takes the hint. They eat their cookies for a few minutes when she says, “I have a sixth sense dedicated entirely to knowing if you’re alive or not, Kazuma, and for three days it picked up nothing.”
Kuwabara winces. His powers have never been on Shizuru’s level. They do what they want, regardless of his approval. “I’m sorry.” He’s been saying that a lot.
“I had to hope you were okay, when I’ve always just known. I’m not used to that, and I don’t want to be.” She wraps her elbow around his neck and pulls him close until their temples rest side by side. “So don’t do that again. Don’t go getting trapped in caves with goddesses and fire demons you find sexy without telling someone first.”
“Sis--”
“What? You think I didn’t know about your crush? What kind of psychic do you take me for?”
A nosy as fuck psychic, apparently. Kuwabara puts down his cookie, distracting Eikichi with wiggling fingers so she won’t attack it. He’s definitely eating it later. “I had a vision that we get married and have a kid.”
He doesn’t surprise Shizuru often. “Huh.”
“Yeah.” He’s happy to think of his daughter, but now he’s struggling with the moral dilemma knowing the future always presents. “I don’t know if I should tell him or not. I mean, we’re not even dating.”
“How likely does it feel like it’s going to happen? You used to have visions of marrying Yukina, and you never told her.”
“How did you--right, fine! You’re psychic. I know that.” Kuwabara pinches the bridge of his nose. What’s it like having a family of people that can’t read your thoughts? He’d really like to know. “The stuff with Yukina was...kinda vague? I never could pick out concrete details.” Those visions had been delicate, so soft around the edges he hadn’t been in danger of confusing them for reality. “Hiei, though--” He shrugs helplessly. He could draw their apartment from memory, even though he’s fucking terrible at drawing. His daughter doesn’t get her artistry from him.
Shizuru strokes his hair. “You can’t rely on premonitions, kid. Hiei doesn’t seem like the type to let a vision define his future for him.”
Kuwabara agrees. “He shouldn’t!” The future doesn’t deal in guarantees. “I just...if I keep it from him, and he finds out, it'll seem like I tricked him. And if I do tell him, then it might make him feel...obligated.”
“For the kid?”
He nods. “Or maybe he’ll run away.”
“He’s not the most emotionally mature person,” Shizuru says levelly.
Eikichi meows. She’s putting two and two together.
“Or...maybe he’s fine with dating, but he’s not okay with the kid.” The vermilion glass is a tender weight against his chest. He already loves her.
“You seem really attached to her.” Shizuru hugs him tighter. “Kazuma, she might never be born.”
He knows, he knows. “I sorta wish I didn’t know about her. Even if things with Hiei don’t go anywhere, I think I’ll always be looking for her, you know? I’ll always want to be her dad.”
Shizuru hands him a cookie. “It’s all a moot point if you don’t tell him how you feel.”
“And there’s that, yeah.” He takes a bite. “I thought he really hated me, but when we were in the cave...actually, before that--”
Stop leaving me.
“Tell him,” Shizuru says. “You think he’s really the type of person to abandon you because you say you love him to his face?”
No. Hiei’s too loyal for that. They’ve always understood each other on that point. Kuwabara’s afraid of...laughter. A snide comment. Anything that makes him wish he’d succeeded in cutting these feelings out at the root and bled the wound until it was flushed clean.
“School’s going to start soon,” he says instead.
“You’re going back to Makai tomorrow?”
Hatori and Mukuro have almost decided what to do with B’valan. “Got some loose ends to wrap up.”
“Do you think you’ll get enough sleep on the floor? There’s still the couch.” She smirks. “Or do you want to try and squeeze into my bed like you did when you had nightmares?”
Is she purposefully trying to bring up every embarrassing thing he has ever done in his life? “I was nine years old! I saw ghosts.”
“I see ghosts, too, and I never ruined your sleep over it. And by the way, fourteen is not nine.”
In his defense, fourteen was way more traumatic than it had any right to be. “The floor will be fine, thanks. Right, Eikichi?”
She’s already walking to Shizuru’s room.
Kuwabara looks at Mr. Stuffingsworth. “I lied,” he tells the bear. “I love you slightly more.”

Writer’s Review Tag
The ever so delightful @muse-of-nightmares tagged me!
Rules: Post two snippets of your writing. The first should be one of the oldest examples of your work that you can find (the older the better!), and the other has to be an excerpt from something more recent. Compare the two side by side to see the difference between what your writing looks like now and how it did then.
The point of this tag is not to cringe but to see how much your writing has grown (and improved) over time!
Tagging: @sad-sweet-cowboah @shootybangbang @yeet-or-be-hawed @fangirl-ramblings @littlestarofthewest @clareguilty
I’m so excited to share this with y’all. Here we go!
Circa 1999, 15 years old:
Genkai was out training Yusuke in some more fighting techniques, so Yukina was alone. Hiei walked up to her. She looks so innocent, thought Hiei as he walked up to her. I can't tell her, and he started to walk away when he met the gaze of two dark eyes. "Go. I'm telling you now. If you don't tell her, you'll regret it. You'll cause her more pain by not telling her who her brother is than by telling her the truth." Hiei knew this was the truth, and yet he still didn't want to tell Yukina that he was her brother. He turned to walk back to her, but she was right in front of him when he turned around. "Hiei? Who is your new friend?"
"Uhh... Yukina?"
"Yes?"
"There's something I need to tell you..."
"What is it? Have you found my brother?"
*Gulp*
Hina tapped Hiei on the shoulder. "Tell her!" Hiei suddenly found courage in his mother's eyes. "Yukina, I am your brother. I was just too damn scared to tell you because I was afraid you would reject me..."
Yukina broke into tears of joy. "Oh Hiei! I always knew, somewhere in my heart, I knew that you were my brother. I could feel it. I'm so glad you told me!" "So you're not going to reject me?" "No! Of course not! Hiei, I love you!" They embraced in a brother-sister kind of way. Hina started to cry. "My kids," she whispered. Yukina then turned to Hina. "Hiei, you still haven't told me who your friend is."
Hina dried her eyes and looked at her. "Yukina, honey, I'm... your mother..." Yukina froze with shock. Hiei put an arm around her shoulders. "It's okay," he said. "She is our mother, reborn as a human." Then Hina and Hiei explained to Yukina about what had happened in the past. Yukina knew the truth now, and she was never happier in her life than she was in this moment...

2020, 36 years old (snippet from my latest fanfic Heart of Starlight):
He came back as twilight spread across the sky, a rabbit slung over his shoulder. Humming happily, he entered the clearing and made his way to his little makeshift camp, holding out his lantern. He’d have to start his campfire and-
He spotted movement on his bedroll. Holding out his lantern, he stared at the figure for a few moments. Then he dropped his rabbit in shock as soon as he recognized what lay there.
Or rather, who.
The woman of his dreams.
Naked.
“I don’t believe it…” he mumbled.
She turned to him then and blinked slowly like a cat. “Hello,” she said, her voice like silk sheets to his ears. “I heard you call for me.”
Arthur slowly picked up his rabbit, his eyes never leaving hers, until he got closer. After a few tense moments, he looked away. She watched him as he placed the rabbit next to the remnants of his campfire, watched him throw a couple extra pieces of firewood onto the small pit and strike some flint to start the fire.

I feel like I've gotten better on the grammar side of things, but my ideas don’t seem much better... and I still use ellipses liberally, dammit.
Anyway, thanks for reading this far!

Melt the Ice
Summary: (hieikuwabara week submission, 2100+ words) More than ice needs to melt, but if the ice was melted and Hiei could just find Kuwabara before he dies, that would be great.
***
Hiei is running along the ice, swearing.
Everything is blue and white all around him, and it is frigid cold as the blizzard howls around him, not that he can feel it. It’s in his DNA to be unbothered by the storm, unlike some human he knows.
Some human is beneath the ice, who he is desperately looking for, trying to ignore the silence and closing in darkness.
He is cursing Koenma, Yusuke, and Kurama-everyone involved in this terrible mission where they had been forced to split up into teams. He swipes a foot over some snow staring at the ice beneath him, seeing no traces of what he is looking for.
He sees something yards away to his left.
Hiei skids across the ice, there was a fash of gold, no orange just there, just a moment ago!
He runs for it dragging his feet over the snow on the top layer of ice looking for the flash of color again.
Kuwabara should have been paired with someone else.
He would have been safer with Kurama.
Would have gotten along better with Yusuke.
Kuwabara shouldn’t have been with him, Hiei, who was too impatient. Hiei, who didn’t need talking to fill the silence. Hiei, who for some ungodly reason had been casting long stares at Kuwabara, desiring something he had never wanted from anybody before-why hadn’t he been paying better attention to the enemy?!
Hiei stopped hard when he found Kuwabara’s face pressed to the ice, trapped beneath it.
He was white, his hair a dull rust beneath the ice, and admit dark freezing water. His lips were pressed to a crack against the ice, and he was… yes, he was taking in a breath. Thank God Kuwabara was not as stupid as Hiei liked to claim.
Hiei burned his hands through the ice melting the chunks away and his hands fell into the water. Even to him, it was like needles. Kuwabara had been down there minutes. How must he be feeling?
Hiei’s arms sunk into the water and he wrapped his arms around Kuwabara’s frigid body pulling him out with one tug. Kuwabara was practically dead weight in his grasp, his head lolling to the side as he wretched.
Kuwabara continued to choke weakly, and Hiei embraced him fully, clinging to the large man who was too weak to cling back. Hiei forced Kuwabara’s heavy arms around his shoulders, manipulating Kuwabara like a heavy over-sized sack of potatoes. He pulled Kuwabara away from the ice, and when he was sure they were on land, manipulated his aura to raise the heat in the air so high, the swirling snow could not touch them.
The snow melted beneath his feet, and Hiei lowered Kuwabara into the wet grass keeping his arms around him, even as Kuwabara remained unresponsive.
“Come on... come on!” Hiei growled, howling louder than the biting wound.
Kuwabara, at last, started to shiver, a sign his body was trying to keep him alive.
Thank God, Hiei had been paired with Kuwabara.
_________
Hiei wasted no time and took Kuwabara back to their cave, a cave that they had been living and hiding in while they spied on their enemies. As he placed Kuwabara on the mossy floor, he feels a sliver of frustration at the thought, that they will have to leave it now. The enemy knows they are in the area, it will no longer be safe to stay.
At least one of their enemies is down. They did that much. Kuwabara did that much, and was sent into the freezing ice water that might be his doom as a reward. What a pleasant thank you for saving mankind.
Hiei kicked apart a log, splintering it, and catching it on fire with a swat of his hand. Roughly, he added more kindling to the flames, while throwing the furs Hiei had slept on, to the pile Kuwabara had laid upon now. He was quiet, and he shuddered as the furs brushed his skin, shivering as he tipped his face towards the soft warmth.
Hiei paused in what he was doing, and hastily stripped Kuwabara of the clothes that were still slightly damp, tearing them in places, but not caring. They'd worry about that later. When Kuwabara is nude, Hiei only takes a moment to slake his eyes over Kuwabara’s body. His white skin and toned body is doing things to Hiei that shouldn’t be happening right this second, not when Kuwabara’s life is still in danger.
Hiei rolls Kuwabara into the furs, and when he is satisfied Kuwabara is buried beneath them sufficiently enough, he goes back to work on stoking the fire into a furious roar.
When that is done, after several tense silent minutes he turns to look at Kuwabara. How can a man so large look so small, buried beneath all that fur?
Hiei strips himself down and flares his energy up, practically standing in the fire to get his skin burning hot, and then joins Kuwabara in the furs. For once, Hiei wishes he was taller and thicker. That there was more of him to wrap around Kuwabara. At least he’s a demon, and part fire demon at that.
Kuwabara is so cold he’s not even shaking. He should be shaking. The tremors would be proof of Kuwabara’s body responding to try and keep itself alive. He’d been shuddering earlier and now just stopped. As if the cold was winning.
The cold would not win.
Hiei rubs his hands up and down Kuwabara’s arms, manipulating the heat in the room, drying and warming Kuwabara aggressively.
Too aggressively.
Kuwabara stats coughing and shaking and wheezing, and Hiei has to pull back so he doesn't hurt Kuwabara. Hiei growls at his blunder, and lowers the heat to a more tolerable heat, but it’s still sweltering.
Finally, Kuwabara shivers, and even cracks open an eye and looks at Hiei. It doesn’t seem like Kuwabara actually sees Hiei, but he burrowing closer regardless, one heavy limb flopping on Hiei’s side. Hiei tucks the arm around him, and presses Kuwabara’s face into his neck and chest, and Kuwabara sighs content.
Hiei can breathe a little easier.
These past three months have been unexpected.
They are trying to stop a cult from ending the world, and the cult wisely split up to different parts of the world when they were found out. Kurama and Yusuke went to one end of the earth, somewhere in Brazil, and Kuwabara and Hiei went to Nepal.
The two members, two leaders of the cult,  Hiei and Kuwabara had followed, were trying to present themselves as Gods to people who lived in Nepal. They went as far as performing “miracles,” to impress them and gain trust and support. It didn’t seem to matter that they were getting media attention, the two Cult members relished in the attention, feeling safer as more eyes landed upon them.
When people joined their cult, they implanted a demonic seed that took over their minds, turning the cult members into willing chew toys for demons who liked to eat human life force straight from their source. While the mission had been hard, with a lot of spying and stopping plans, Kuwabara and Hiei had also been getting closer.
Hiei had been... looking at Kuwabar for a while, but never expected Kuwabara to look back.
He is surprised one day when he realizes,Kuwabara is flirting with him, and has been since they started this mission.
Hiei called him on it, and Kuwabara had blushed as he admitted, “Yeah… I’m flirting with you.”
“Why? I’m terrible! To you specifically!” Hiei snaps. Hiei had panicked a little. He’d been very careful to make sure no one knew of his interests. He hadn’t wanted it to be known to anyone, least of all the subject of Hiei’s roaming eye.
Kuwabara had been embarrassed, maybe even a little overwhelmed, but tried to explain himself, “You say some shit… so do I… but your actions... They say something else… don’t they?” Kuwabara had a look of a man wondering if he had guessed something wrong.
“You thought I liked you,” Hiei realized; says it aloud rather thank keeping it to himself. How had Kuwabara picked up on it?
Kuwabara blushed, but his eyes are flooded with sadness, “I did…I thought you...”
He says nothing else, and Hiei lets Kuwabara turn away from him, a defeated hunch to his shoulders.
It’s been two days since then, and perhaps it was this conversation that caused Hiei to falter against their enemy, put himself in danger he didn’t need to be in. Caused Kuwabara to throw himself at the attacker, and sever the man’s heads from his shoulders. Kuwabara had looked surprised-stricken. He had never killed someone with intention before-not successfully at least.
So Hiei had broken Kuwabara’s heart, and had made him a murder as well.
Wonderful, Hiei was fucking, wonderful.
The second cult leader, howling with fury, then chunked Kuwabara into the iced-over water, and Hiei had to make a choice as their enemy turned to flee.
There was no choice, the only option Hiei had was to rescue Kuwabara.
Hiei wraps his arms around Kuwabara harder, pushing the past few days aside for now. He needs to be here now, to continue to make sure the human doesn’t... how cold does a human need to be to die? What is the exact temperature?
Pressing Kuwabara into his warmth, willing Kuwabara to open his eyes right now, Hiei apologizes, “I’m sorry. I’m sorry… I was a coward. I lied. I want you. I want you… don’t die. Kuwabara, don't you fucking die!”
It’s a weak pathetic plea, but Hiei is pleading anyway, curling Kuwabara against him wishing for Kuwabara to do something other than be a shivering mass of dead weight.
It’s perhaps an hour into Hiei’s silent pleading, before Kuwabara’s violent shudders die down to a softer tremor, and he wheezes a little as he seems to stir awake. Hiei strokes warm hands down Kuwabara’s cheeks, his neck, his shoulders... He touches Kuwabara gently, coaxing him back to the waking world with him.
“H-Hiei,” Kuwabara whispers, his eyes not even open, “You’re o-okay!” A dopey smile slides across his face, he shivers and mumbles, “Good. Good.”
“You fucking idiot,” Hiei grates into Kuwabara’s face and kissed Kuwabara, lips sliding against Kuwabara’s mouth desperately. Kuwabara gasps weakly into it and tips his head away.
It feels like rejection.
“Wh-waht are you doing?”
“I do like you. I do. I’m terrible to you, why do you like me?” Hiei says desperately, his nerves frayed as he keeps kissing against Kuwabara’s jaw, challenging him to reject him again. Kuwabara doesn’t lean away again, but he’s not really responding either.
“Are you a fool? You should pick up on the danger signs I’m flashing, you shouldn’t want to come near me!” Hiei hisses, voice cracked and rough.
Kuwabara, eyes still closed, leans clumsily towards Hiei and kisses Hiei’s nose. Kuwabara grunts, annoyed, adjusts his angle and kisses Hiei’s mouth. It’s cold, and not pleasant at all, but it quiets a little storm inside of Hiei’s chest.
“I do… but I do,” Kuwabara mumbles,  weakly reaching for Hiei; blindly. Hiei catches Kuwabara’s hands and kisses the palms.
Bitterly he says, “You’re a fool. I’ll burn you.”
Hiei feels a little manic. He is not someone who is allowed to have something soft as love. He feels like it’ll shatter in his greedy fist.
“I’ll learn from it,” Kuwabara mutters, “It’s not like you’re trying to hurt me. You’re trying to be better. You've been trying since the first time we met,”
“How do you know?” Hiei has stopped trying to press himself into Kuwabara, stopped trying to merge their bodies together as one.
“Because I've seen you. Your actions…they’re louder than the words you say. Softer too.” Kuwabara shudders again, shivering against Hiei, who double checks and makes sure the furs are tucked all around Kuwabara.
“I understand you better now... had to after all these years,” Kuwabara whispers, his arm tugging Hiei to him, weak but eager to hold the shorter demon.
“I will hurt you if we start, if this continues,” Hiei warns, knowing he can’t turn away now. Knowing he won’t let Kuwabara go now.
“You’ll make it up to me by trying to do better,” Kuwabara whispers.
At last he opens his eyes, looking at Hiei. Kuwabara has grown into the most beautiful thing Hiei has ever seen, and Kuwabara’s eyes are all that Hiei wants on him.
“I’ll…” Hiei wants to say, “fail” wants to warn Kuwabara to look elsewhere. To turn back before he hurts him because that's all he knows how to do. Kuwabara’s lips are still blue from the cold. Hiei leans in and sucks on them until they are red and flushed.
“I’ll try,” he promises instead.
Kuwabara laughs, breathless, shivering, and falling asleep. Quietly he mumbles, “I love you. I want you.” And then passes out.
Hiei lies awake the rest of the night, Kuwabara heavy, but light in his arms.
The blizzard rages on outside.

Summary: 5+1; 5 lives Kuwabara lived and 1 time he isn’t alive yet. A reincarnation fic.
I.
He’s trying to keep his breathing under control. If he doesn’t, he’ll bleed out. Then he won’t be any good to anybody. Especially not these poor kids, these kids who have lost their mother and father to these fucking demons.
In his chest, his heart aches for them, for everyone who had to suffer in this life.
It aches for the older sister that never was given the chance to marry, have children, and grow old.
All because of one man’s god complex.
Inhale, exhale. Concentrate. Find the blood vessels. Stop the bleeding. Can’t die yet. Not until these kids are safe.
Gripping his katana tighter, he locks eyes with his enemy.
A man mustn't run from a battle.
Racing forward, with a blade colored gold, he goes to sever the demon’s neck.
He hopes, in a future life, for the power to cut through anything.
II.
Kurama blinks as he stares down at the manga that depicts four characters ready for battle on the cover page.
If he were anybody else, he wouldn’t have thought much of it. Even Yusuke or Hiei would have probably never spared it a second glance. Honestly, for a second, he even thought it was a stretch to think that it could be the four of them together. Maybe he’s getting sentimental after all these years, wishing for the four of them to reunite and take on the evils of the world like the good days.
But no, the nine-tailed fox character with squinting eyes and a sultry smile resonates with him.
So he picks a copy up and takes it with him to Yusuke’s ramen restaurant.
By the time he’s finished reading it, he’s sure of it.
This is their story.
Of course, it’s a stitched-together tale. The works of editors and other influences are clear. Obviously, there are embellishments. It’s a telephone version of their tale.
But it’s their tale nonetheless.
With trembling hands, Kurama takes a closer look at the authors and can’t help but let out a wet laugh.
Yusuke pops his head out of the kitchen and looks at him curiously. “What’chu laughing about over there Kurama?”
Kurama lifts up the manga and points right at the names of the authors with a bright smile.
Written by Kawahara Kazuko and Kai Yumi. Drawn by Kawahara Kazuko.
III.
Yusuke is bored as hell.
To be fair, that’s how he feels most of the time nowadays.
Fuck demon lifespans.
That’s how he ends up wandering around town aimlessly, trying not to think about how the lack of a need to care about time feels more like a noose than the freedom it’s supposed to be.
He’s passing by the edge of a new park when he hears a vibrant sound from a violin.
Then there’s the strike of the keys on a piano.
A duet.
Yusuke could care less about music, especially classical shit (that was definitely more up Kurama’s alley and back in the day, especially during a study session).
But something is pulling him forward.
He sees them in a little stadium at the center of the park and every fiber of his being knows these two auras.
Her hair is black this time, but her eyes are a warm brown like the first time he met her. The violin is nestled under her chin and her fingers dance over the strings, her body swaying with the song. She might be taller than him this go around.
His hair is blonde (and though Yusuke misses that vibrant orange, he’s still glad to see his friend’s hair still sticks out like a sore thumb). Unfortunately, it’s not coiffed, but cleanly cut. His jaw is softer but his cheekbones are as sharp as ever. His frame is still as huge as ever, and his long fingers show mastery over the piano keys.
He knows jack shit about music, but even he can tell they’re no amateurs. The crowd that’s settled around the little stage tells him as much.
He feels his mouth go dry and his throat threatens to close up.
Yusuke’s never been so glad to have been bored.
IV.
Hiei’s been trailing him for a couple of days now.
Honestly, he’s disappointed. Back in the day, at his best, Kuwabara would call him out for being a stalker in a matter of minutes, even when he suppressed his energy. It had become a bit of a game, not that Hiei would ever admit that. Obviously, this reincarnation would require a significant amount of training before he could be half the man he used to be. Hiei is both annoyed by the idea and anticipating it.
So far, all Hiei can conclude about this Kuwabara’s life is that it is quite bland.
The boy goes to school, hangs around with his adolescent friends playing catch or going to the arcade, then goes home to diligently study before going to bed.
He lingers in the shadows as another day goes by. Orange and pink bleeds into blue as the sun starts to set in the distance.
In a minute, Kuwabara will make a sharp right and keep... that’s not a right.
Hiei leaps off his branch to follow.
When he sees the teen’s destination, the fire demon can’t help but think that really, he shouldn’t have expected anything.
The human opens the door to a pastry shop, and a bell jingles to welcome his presence. From the large window, Hiei observes as the reincarnation moves behind the counter and puts on an apron before disappearing into the back of the store.
Assuming that it would be a while before this Kuwabara came back from his apparent job, Hiei chooses to take a nap.
It’s about three hours later that the high school student leaves the pastry shop, waving goodbye to the owners. A bag, no doubt full of extra sweets, hangs off his arm. Stuffing his hands in his pockets, he whistles as he heads toward what Hiei knows is his home.
Right before he crosses the threshold, Kuwabara turns, digging into the pastry bag, pulling out a delicately made cupcake. He bends to place it on the ground before straightening up and looking directly at where Hiei is hidden in the brush of the trees. There’s a smug look coupled with a wide grin and if there was any doubt in his mind before about this being Kuwabara, it’s gone, replaced by the feeling of wanting to murder the buffoon.
As if feeling his malicious intentions, Kuwabara cackles.
“You’re not as good as ya’ think, ya’ stalker. I’m a nice guy though. So I’ll let ya’ have this as a consolation gift. It’s handmade by yours truly. See ya’ round.”
With a final smirk and a two-finger salute, the cheeky fucker is gone.
The cupcake is terrible, he tries to tell himself.
V.
He’s fucking eleven.
Yusuke, for one heartbreaking moment, wishes he didn’t find him this time around. There are no locks of hair for Kuwabara to even attempt to coif. He’s the smallest he’s ever been in all his lives. His parents have to wheel him around.
When he tells Kurama and Hiei about it, they go seek him out on their own terms.
Hiei comes back looking shaken and absolutely furious. The fire demon is ready to rip open the heavens to tear Koenma a new one.
Honestly, Yusuke would be right behind him the moment he tried.
“He reeks of death,” Hiei mutters.
Kurama goes and comes back with pained eyes. He’s clenching his fists so hard they’re trembling.
“I visited him while he slept. He… he’s so frail. He only has a couple of months left.”
Yusuke wants to punch something. But how the fuck do you punch cancer?
So Yusuke settles for just… loitering around the hospital. He smokes outside the door and gets yelled at by the nurses.
Kurama keeps visiting while Kuwabara’s sleeping. He leaves flowers.
The stubborn bastard doesn’t admit it, but Yusuke knows Hiei’s taken up residence at one of the hospital’s tallest trees.
It’s only three months before his aura flickers away like a candle blown out. It feels like a stab in the gut in a way the other times Kuwabara left them doesn’t.
It’s not even a couple of hours after that, that a cat is nudging Yusuke’s leg, a letter tied to its collar.
Thanks for keeping me company. I missed you guys. See you next time.
+1
“You ass, took you long enough.”
“Shut up Urameshi. You know how many times I’ve had to go through this shit? You can deal with waiting a couple of years.”
“You look well Hiei.”
Yusuke’s arms are crossed, and he’s tapping his toes against the ground. Kurama’s leaning against a tree, fiddling with a rose petal. Kuwabara is sprawled out on the floor, gazing up at the clouds in the sky.
“Hmph, I suppose you expect me to apologize for not perishing earlier?”
“Urameshi’s just pissed that he died earlier than you.”
“What was that you piece of shit -”
“It’s comforting to know that even after all these years, you two still get along like peas in a pod.”
“Enough of this prattle. Isn’t there somewhere we have to be?”
“Oh my god, yes, finally. Let’s go.”
Kuwabara lurches himself up into a sitting position. “You just got here! Don’t you wanna, I dunno, look around or whatever?”
“Smell the roses?” Kurama remarks cheerfully, choosing to ignore the exasperated looks on his teammate’s faces. But then he turns more pensive, before stumbling upon an epiphany of sorts. A self-satisfied, knowing smirk is directed towards the shortest member of the group, causing Hiei to bristle.
“Ah well, there’s always next time,” Kurama lends a hand to Kuwabara, pulling him up. They start walking together towards the end of this realm. It’s not long before they stand together in front of a blinding light. “Really Hiei, after all these years, you could stand to be more honest with us.”
“Shut it fox, I will cut you.”
“Huh?” Yusuke and Kuwabara both look at Kurama curiously.
Kurama’s face is damn smug at this point. He cups his hand over his mouth to mock whisper to the two former delinquents. “He’s just eager for all of us to be reborn at the same time. He missed us.”
“You’re an absolute fool if you think that’s the case. If I’m eager to do anything then it’s to get away from the lot of you as fast as possible!”
They’re laughing and wrapping themselves around Hiei as they walk into the light.

Can’t Afford Love
Approximately five years ago, Kurama expected to be in the realm of his birth — surrounded by demons and spirits, the supernatural to which was only fiction in the realm of humans — but fate had other plans and he reaped what he sowed for his sentimentality. It wasn’t all bad though. Blessed with a group of friends that were akin to family, a mother who loved him with all that she had, and a partner though prickly in nature was a steady pillar of support in his darkest hour — he could have been in worst situations. Alas, not all things were golden and he was forced to admit that despite his acceptance of his human captivity, there were things that were unavoidable.
One of his friends catching feelings for him wasn’t something that he wanted to endure. The idea of rejecting them, of breaking this peace that he had, it was worrying. But he hardly believed that something would occur that would tear them away from him. Maya’s involvement with Yatsude put it into perspective that no matter how “human” Kurama might have been, there were some things that were simply unavoidable. He hadn’t expected her family to move away after it all happened or the void that would be left.
His worries lingering as he looked to Kuwabara, Keiko and Yusuke. His eyes lingering on Yusuke the longest, the picture of his smile seared into Kurama’s mind and his heart ached as he thought of what it would mean.
Without being asked, Hiei kept an eye on his friends to reassure him that they weren’t in danger by any others trying to challenge the pair for their territory. And on one such day, while Kurama worked on his homework at his desk and Hiei was perched on the windowsill, he said the words that Kurama dreaded most.
“You’re aware that he has feelings for you, aren’t you?”
Kurama swallowed thickly. Hiei had already told him that Kuwabara went home and met with his sister halfway, Keiko was walked home by Yusuke and the pair exchanged a few words with their usual bickering before parting ways. So the only one he could be talking about was — Yusuke. Kurama narrowed his eyes at his notebook, his eraser tapping lightly against the printed ink, though his mind was far removed from the problems before him to face the one at hand.
Even though Yusuke tried to hide it, he wasn’t the most subtle of people. The faint blush that dusted his cheeks when Kurama smiled at him, walking closer to him when they were heading home together, his hand brushing against Kurama’s own with their fingers close enough to lace together but missing at the last second. Whether he or Yusuke pulled away, Kurama isn’t sure but neither of them speak on it. Nights he spends over at the Minamino’s, either falling asleep on the couch or the floor, yet somehow ending up next to Kurama in his bed.
Then it’s the way that he looks at him. With that lopsided smile that he normally gives Keiko, a conspiratorial grin when they’re seconds away from pulling off one of his schemes. Or the soft smiles when they lay side by side and Kurama pretends to be asleep, just to see him like that for a bit longer with a halo of dark hair fanned out across the pillow they share.
Letting his pencil fall with a clatter, he tucked his mouth against his hand and narrowed his eyes at the wall. Perhaps it wasn’t Yusuke who was falling but Kurama righted himself before he could descend any further. Entertaining ideas of being with him would only lead them both down a path of no return and he didn’t want to hurt Yusuke. But the world he belonged to was one that he couldn’t bring him along.
“…I am.” Kurama finally said, letting his gaze drift to Hiei’s waiting form. The fire demon’s eyes glowing bright crimson in the low light filtered through the curtains that he’s pushed aside to make room for him on the window sill.
He studies him quietly and says nothing. Likely letting the answer seep into the atmosphere between them but Kurama knows the stage is set and this is a conversation they are going to have. No matter how uncomfortable he feels it is.
“And you’re not going to erase his memory?” HIei asked evenly, as if he were requesting Kurama to perform a party trick.
Kurama shook his head and turned his head away. The idea of seeing Yusuke regard him with such confusion as Maya did was disheartening. And he wasn’t sure if he could fool the three of them into believing that there was no connection between them. Not when they were this interlaced in one another’s lives.
“Yusuke is not aware of all that I am,” Kurama explains, picking up his pencil and scratching the kanji of Yusuke’s name in the upper left corner of his paper. He’s helped heal Yusuke’s injuries, from fights or other incidents, with his energy but he never fully explained. As children, Yusuke believed with wide-eyed enthusiasm that he possessed magic and that trust was something he didn’t want to tarnish by revealing the truth. “There’s no need to erase his memories.”
“And if he knows? Would you erase his memory then?”
Kurama pressed his lips together to keep from stating something that he didn’t want to. From telling Hiei to just drop it. The question is a sound one. Yusuke knowing is a threat to the balance that they’ve set and would put him in the line of danger at that. But could he erase himself from Yusuke’s memories if he found out the truth? Could he alter not only his memories but that of others, make it seem as if they were never truly friends or simply fell out of a friendship with each other?
“He won’t know.”
Hiei’s footsteps are soundless but his presence is loud. He brushes past the back of Kurama’s chair, close enough that he can feel the hairs on the back of his neck stand on in. “You plan for possibilities, don’t you?” Hiei asked, though it was more of a statement than a question, a derisive tone that pricked at Kurama’s nerves laced in to his cold veneer. “So in the chance that he does know, what will you do?”
Kurama turned slightly in his chair and though he didn’t have an answer, that in itself spoke volumes. His hand settled on the page and covered Yusuke’s name from view as if it were a treasure to be kept. And in his heart, he was. “I will deal with the situation should the need arise,” he muttered tensely, keeping Hiei’s gaze.
A moment of silence passed between them and the air was charged with something that Kurama couldn’t put to name. Then with a soft huff, Hiei averted his gaze and looked ahead of him.
“… Does he really hold that much value to you?”
Something in Kurama trembled. Irritation at being found out, confusion at how deep the feeling went, and derision because of course not — but also yes. Yusuke had been his friend since his human vessel was a child, they bonded and he was happy to be at his side. At their side.
“He has been a friend for a very long time.”
“Mm…” Hiei regarded him from the corner of his eye and the fire demon’s focus, while admirable, crept along Kurama’s skin as if he were being picked apart piece by piece. “So, if someone were to kill him..”
Kurama felt the spike in his energy but quickly quelled it, clenching his fist around the back of the chair. “They wouldn’t live long enough,” he promises, unwilling to think of Yusuke’s vacant eyes or what manner of foolish creature would try to take someone that held meaning to Youko Kurama.
He swallowed thickly and Hiei arched a brow before closing his eyes.
“You have feelings for him.”
Kurama tensed up slightly and his grip on the back of the chair tightened, the plastic creaking beneath his hold. “It doesn’t matter,” he reasons. Being with Yusuke was impossible considering that he was a human. He had no idea what Kurama trey was, and his feelings for Keiko ran deep. It was better that he focused on her, that he lived out his life as he was meant to.
Even if that put distance between them and he wasn’t able to hold onto his hand — Yusuke would be happy and alive. Lost in his thoughts, Kurama didn’t notice Hiei moved until the paper that his hand had been covering was slipped from beneath his grasp and turned face down. Staring down at it blankly, he tipped his head back to look into Hiei’s eyes.
“You were thinking something unnecessary again,” Hiei said with an arched brow, studying Kurama quietly. “If his feelings are that bothersome, I’ll change them.”
“Touch him and it will be the last thing you do,” Kurama said abruptly, his voice low and the threat was laced into the coldness of his tone. His plants, hidden among the furniture in his room, were primed and ready to confront a threat. Though he could sense their confusion. Hiei had been a fixture in his life for some time now and the idea of harming him wasn’t a fond one but Kurama wouldn’t abide by what he was offering. “I value our partnership, Hiei. Do not jeopardize it.”
Hiei’s gaze swept over him a few times before he huffed a laugh, climbing off Kurama’s desk and making his way to the window. The curtains were pushed aside, allowing the afternoon sun rays to flood through, haloing him in reds and oranges.
“He’s coming here,” Hiei said, undoing the window’s latch and pushing it open. Despite the threat that Kurama posed to him, he didn’t regard him with anger. Simply climbed onto the window sill and stared out at the city line with his back to him. “Apparently, he wanted to bring you…”
It wasn’t like Hiei to hesitate but when he did, Kurama’s heart hammered in his chest. Yusuke was coming here? And he was bringing something?
“Well, you’ll see…”
Before Kurama could say anything edge-wise, Hiei disappeared into the setting sun and left him with nothing but the soft breeze blowing at his curtains and a mind racing. Kurama sighed and sagged in his chair. He wasn’t sure what came over him to go so far as to threaten Hiei.
The last time such a thing occurred, the fire demon alluded to Shiori coming to harm. And that was another extreme that he took his time to work up to. Running his fingers through his hair a few times, he pushed away from his desk then headed downstairs, deciding to wait on Yusuke to make his appearance.
Sitting downstairs, Kurama turned on the television and curled up on one end of the couch allowing his mind to wander. The glass sliding door allowed him a view into the backyard and he could see the flower beds where he’d been tending to the arsenal he’d need for his triumphant return to the Makai. The same place where he came face to face with a barefoot boy, dirtied from the head down, with a smile that could light the sun. He found him annoying, wanting him to leave quickly, and gave him a flower at his behest. To his surprise, that same child with his sunny grin, returned to him with dim eyes and quivering hands to return the flower.
He learned later that whoever Yusuke tried to give the flower to denied it. And when he broke it, the grief he felt was secondhand — he was apologizing for something that he couldn’t control. Protecting him from the forces at work which turned him from a sweet laughing child to one who shouldered his pain and anger and answered with his fists was impossible. But he did his best to protect the heart inside of him, Kuwabara, Keiko, Maya and so many others trying to reach out to him. And the Yusuke that they loved had changed but at the core he was the same.
The same child who grasped his hand tightly and looked in awe at the difference between their lives. The one who told him that he was lucky to have Shiori and cried when he was shown kindness. Kurama’s nails cinched the skin of his palm and he held his hand close to his chest, diverting his attention to the screen blankly. He couldn’t let harm come to Yusuke. Not from him. The Makai and the Far Shore weren’t places that were meant for him. He was vibrant, burning brighter than the sun, and belonged to the world of the living.
If Kurama had it his way, he would be there for him and serve as his protector. The one who defended him from the darkness that’d undoubtedly try to swallow his light.
A soft click brought his attention back to reality and the backdoor sliding open. Yusuke smiled at him widely, his hair messy, uniform undone with his undershirt showing and his pants a bit lower than they were supposed to be. It was charming on him at the very least and from the state of his knuckles, he must have gotten into a fight before he came or on the way. He pulled off his shoes and set them aside, stepping in with careful steps.
Kurama pretended not to see him until he crept behind the couch and reached for his shoulder.
“Hello Yusuke.”
From the corner of his eye, he could see the fingers still and tremble before dropping limply to the back of the couch. “So much for a surprise,” Yusuke grumbled, leaning against the back of the couch instead, tipping forward to where Kurama could make out his face and his lopsided smile. Brown eyes flecked with hazel crinkled at the corners with obvious affection. “C’mon, aren’t you happy to see me?”
Kurama couldn’t help but return that smile. Yusuke’s always seemed to put him at ease. And despite the unrest he felt, he was warmed by the sight of it. “I am always happy to see you.”
A soft noise came from Yusuke, one of surprise and the pink dusting his cheek was adorable. His lips quirked into a sheepish smile, his chin tucking, a familiar gesture when he was young. Shyness that he kept aside and Kurama buried his mouth against his palm, trying not to smile.
“Well.. I’m here,” Yusuke muttered, climbing over the back of thee couch to drop beside him. As he sank into the cushions, he hesitated and tensed up, casting a look over his shoulder then up at Kurama. “Your mom’s not here, right?”
“She’s at work,” Kurama insisted, somewhat curious to what it was that he wanted for that to be important.
“That’s good…” Yusuke sighed, sagging against the cushions, his head tipped to one side, dark hair falling into his eyes.“She’d be on my ass for climbing on her couch like that.”
Kurama chuckled, reaching over to brush Yusuke’s hair from his eyes. “She worries about you.”
His eyes were wide and he regarded Kurama with such wonder that it was hard to look away. Slowly, he pushed himself upright, brushing his hand aside as he crossed his arms behind his head and leant back against the couch. “Yeah, yeah, I know… that’s what makes it weird.”
Kurama thought to ask about that. Why wasn’t he home? Where was his mother? The taboo topic of his father drifting across his tongue bitterly but none of the words are forth.
“Oh yeah, I almost forgot..” Yusuke flashed him a smile temporarily stealing his breath away. “I proposed to Keiko again today.”
Remembering Hiei’s report about Yusuke walking Keiko home, Kurama felt his heart clench. The proposals weren’t something new. He’d seen Yusuke propose to Keiko three times in one day, sometimes to catch her off guard and others because he seemed genuinely serious. But the two of them were young and it wouldn’t happen although Keiko flat out rejected him, she’d smile with every one as Kuwabara teased Yusuke and Yusuke insisted on getting in a fight with him.
Now that they were older, his proposals weren’t as often but when they did come, he did look charming. His smile soft as he regarded her and Keiko’s refusals came after a brief hesitation. Usually sensible reactions but always with a smile as Yusuke backed off. It was a heartwarming sight to see. Young love at its finest, but it also tugged at his heart. He wasn’t jealous of Keiko by any stretch of the imagination but that sort of happiness, those carefree moments, it wasn’t something that he could have with Yusuke in good conscience.
And it felt wrong to be a part of them.
“What did she say this time?” Kurama asked when he realized that Yusuke was waiting for him to say something.
Yusuke’s smile faltered and he dropped his head, grumbling. “We’re still too young..” He lowered his arms, resting them on his knees as he leant forward. “But it wasn’t a no like when we were kids so that has to count for something.” Lifting his head, he smiled at Kurama and the colors from the television cast shadows over his face that made his eyes seem brighter. “Right?”
That smile only made the aching in Kurama’s chest worse but he slowly bobbed his head. “Right,” he muttered, looking away to settle his gaze on the TV. He wasn’t interested in the show itself but it did give him something to focus on.
Minutes passed and he could feel the weight of Yusuke’s gaze on him and the shift in the air. Anticipation pricked at his skin and his energy shifted restlessly as he waited for the other shoe to drop. And without disappointing, Yusuke took a deep breath then averted his gaze, giving Kurama a measure of leeway with his expression.
“… There was one other thing that she said too..”
“What was it?” Kurama asked, somehow managing to keep his voice neutral despite how he felt. He glimpsed Yusuke in his peripheral gazing at the television and the pink dusting his cheeks darkened to red at the tips of his ears. He turned his head away slightly and Kurama’s eyes softened.
“She’s not… the only person I like.”
Kurama swallowed thickly and he prayed to whichever deity would listen that this wouldn’t happen. Not Yusuke.
“No?”
“No…” Yusuke glanced at him quickly, but it was the look in his eye that sealed Kurama’s fate. His gaze drifted to the table in front of them before focusing on him again. “…I like you.”
While he hadn’t expected him to admit it so easily, the warmth building in his chest was even more surprising. A soft fluttering at the look Yusuke gave him, adoring and kind, a far cry from the scathing glares that his teachers received or some of the other delinquents in the city. He was handing something soft and fragile to Kurama and he loathed that it was being offered to him. A kind beating heart, colored in gold, a rare treasure that even someone as jaded as Youko Kurama could see was one of a kind.
He wanted to pull him closer. Tell him that he liked him as well. That his smile lit up his day. That his laughter was beautiful to his ears. That he was loved. That he was wanted. The ache worsened and despite the small distance between them, it felt as if a chasm had risen and separated them on opposite sides of a wide ravine. And he wouldn’t dare pull Yusuke to his side.
“…I’m sorry, Yusuke.”
The transition might have been quick to some but for him it was painfully slow. He’d shattered many hearts before and watched them fall to pieces without a second thought but this one, he would remember. Yusuke’s eyes didn’t darken but his eyelashes fluttered, his eyes widening and then narrowing as the words sank in. He pressed his lips together, as if he were trying not to say something, a show of thoughtfulness that others thought he didn’t possess. But Kurama knew. He knew that Yusuke had it in him. And he hated drawing it out of him like this.
His brows furrowed and his eyes shuttered, shutting for a second as he turned his head away. His arms resting on his legs, head lowered, dark hair falling and casting shadows amidst the light flickering from the television and Kurama wanted to touch him but he saw the faint tremble in his shoulders. Yusuke was fragile right now and if he touched him, he might shatter like glass.
After a minute passed, Yusuke lifted his head and opened his eyes, staring at the television screen.
“It’s alright,” he said, his tone fairly upbeat although there was something missing. His eyes were what gave him away, the light reflecting the sheen of unshed tears as he watched the program without a sideways glance. “This is the new one, right? I think I missed it last time.”
It wasn’t alright, Kurama wanted to say. He didn’t want to deny him, he wanted to explain. And the ache in his chest pulsed pain throughout his body as he watched Yusuke try to keep himself together. He could have told him that he didn’t miss this one. That they watched it together the last time he was over, the night that he fell asleep tucked close to Kurama’s side and the youko lost interest in the program, happy to watch over him until the smile that he wore slipped from his face.
But he didn’t. He looked ahead of him and closed his eyes, handing back the heart that was offered to him and hoping that the boy it belonged to wouldn’t vanish from his sight. “I think so,” he said, though he was hardly paying attention.
He tried to convince himself that this was right for Yusuke. He deserved to be with another human, to live happily — without fear — not with a demon that would bring him nothing but pain and death.
“Cool..” Yusuke murmured, his voice trailing off.
They sat in silence for who knew how long. A somberness lingering in the air that even the choreographed laughter of the actors on the screen couldn’t break. As the sun fell over the horizon and night came, Yusuke tipped his head back and looked in Kurama’s direction though he knew that he was staring past him rather than at him. The show came to an end and the credits ran while Yusuke stood up and stared to stretch, groaning with a satisfied sigh.
“Alright, I should get going. It’s getting late.”
Kurama watched him quietly. He wanted to stop him from going, tell him that he could stay. Normally he would stay but this wasn’t the time to point it out. Rooted to the spot, he watched Yusuke as he walked around the back of the couch without a backward glance and went to toe on his shoes.
“I’ll see you later, Yusuke,” he said as the backdoor slid open.
“Yup,” Yusuke said with a slight wave over his shoulder, pausing in the doorway. Kurama wasn’t sure what he would say but he had a multitude of things that he could think of. “Y’know, it really is okay.”
What?
Yusuke looked at him from over his shoulder and gave him a smile. “No hard feelings, alright?” With another small wave, he closed the door behind him and walked off with his hands in his pockets, disappearing from Kurama’s sight but the image of his smile was burned in his thoughts.
It wasn’t alright.
How could Yusuke say that it was alright?
The traitorous voice the back of his mind told him that it was just his kindness. It was simply how Yusuke was and he both loved it and hated it. Pulling his knee to his chest, Kurama rested his head against it and squeezed his eyes shut. He tried to tell himself that this was the best for Yusuke in the long run but he couldn’t even convince himself with the pain he felt.
He wasn’t sure how long passed but a shadow blocked the light from the television. The screen going blank after a soft click of a button and Kurama finally lifted his head, staring up at Hiei in the dim light filtering through the sliding glass door. For a moment, the fire demon said nothing and Kurama wondered what went through his mind. Did he think him weak for feeling this much for a human? Was he thinking of ways to gloat or laugh at him for attempting?
“If I told you,” Hiei began, his voice soft but loud in the stillness of the sitting room. “You wouldn’t have been able to greet him normally.”
Kurama’s eyes widened. Hiei knew. Of course he knew, he thought bitterly. But if he would have told Kurama beforehand, he would’ve prepared every eventuality. Anything that would have kept Yusuke from confessing to him and having his heart broken. But it would only prolong it and delay the inevitable. Anger threatening to bubble up quickly dispersed. Hiei wasn’t the one at fault and taking his rage out on him wouldn’t heal the rift between him and Yusuke.
“I know,” Kurama muttered, his voice hoarse and cracking. He hated how vulnerable he sounded. He hated the ache in his chest, the pain in his heart, the longing for Yusuke’s smile. Or how quiet and understanding Hiei was attempting to be. His youki wrapping around him in a caress, warm and present, from his side of the ravine that he made between him and Yusuke.
Hiei knew what he was. Who he was, and it had grown easier to love him. He didn’t balk or obsess over the fact that Kurama had feelings for Yusuke. He tried to help. And now…
Now, he needed him.
Hiei stepped closer to him, Kurama’s foot brushing against his thigh as he closed the distance between them. “Your mother will be gone for a few hours,” he said, an obvious fact that was leading to something. His arm opened and Kurama saw the opening when it was silently given. “It’s alright.”
Kurama lowered his foot and Hiei stood between his legs, allowing Kurama to wrap his arms around his middle and tuck his face against his stomach with a soft noise. He buried his face there, trying to let the darkness swallow him and the warmth cradle him. Hiei’s hand resting at the back of his head and pressing, the other at his back, a hug if he was so bold to declare it so.
Kurama knew that this was necessary. That Yusuke as human and it made it impossible to give his affections without lying to him but he hadn’t expected it to hurt to deny him. Or the longing to give in knowing that he couldn’t.

Kiss Mary kill . Hiei, Botan, Keiko
Why are you doing this to me? You know how much I love them! All of them! Also, I would totally marry all of them. Can I skip the other two options and create an OT4? 💛 I'll give a real answer. Since you always answer my asks with such awesomeness, I'll add in little scenes for you!
Kill - Botan???
I am older than I am now in a time before I was born, and I am driving one of the first generations of automobiles. The new contraption is frustrating and takes too much focus, and I never see the young woman that steps out in front of the wide automobile. In my panic, I crash. In another life, I meet a bubbly blue haired woman who seems familiar and instantly like her. As if something is bonding us...or just because I like her laugh and the way she hits people with a baseball bat.
Kiss - Hiei!
There isn't going to be any subtle flirting or convoluted plans to get a kiss from the equally adorable and ornery fire demon. I wait until no one is around and go right up to him, show no fear, and challenge him to a fight. When he agrees, I will punch him in the mouth. With my mouth. Softly. Because I like him. Hopefully he will decide not to kill me so that I can live long enough to get a happily ever after. Speaking of...
Marry - KEIKO ALL THE WAY!
Even after being married for years, I still can't believe my luck. I know that Keiko can do better, but for some reason she loves me and I can't imagine loving anyone the way I love her. She's unfailingly good but doesn't put up with anyone's shit. She is my greatest supporter and makes me want to be a better person. My heart even still races whenever she grabs my hand, and I will gladly spend the rest of my life worshiping my beautiful wife.
BONUS
"I don't get it," Kuwabara states and looks around the temple. I follow his line of sight and grin as eyes meet mine. "Are you dating Hiei, Botan, or Keiko?"
"Yes," I answer. Yusuke immediately starts laughing at Kuwabara's shocked face, but Yukina takes pity on her boyfriend and explains what I won't because I'm too busy laughing with Yusuke.
"They are all together as equals. Their love is for everyone. I think it's rather sweet," Yukina says and smiles. Kuwabara is smiling widely now, because he is always supportive of love. Yusuke, however, is no longer laughing.
"Wait. Hiei has three girlfriends? My ex-girlfriend has two girlfriends and a boyfriend?" Yusuke asks while counting on his fingers. Keiko and Botan pop up on either side of me, arms wrap around my waist and shoulders, and I can see Hiei smirking as Yusuke keeps trying to do the math. Yes, all is right in the world.
Thank you so much for the ask! I had way too much fun with it and got a little carried away, so I hope you like it! 😘

Prompt 1: Mistletoe is sex pollen for demons
You thought a Christmas party would be nice. A good way to spend Christmas Eve so you didn't have to be alone. Genkai even lent you use of the temple for the evening, promising to make herself scarce as she didn't want to deal with drunken idiots.
You look around the space you just finished decorating and feel like proud. You did this without any help and your guests would be arriving soon. You wanted a homey feeling, and did your best to blend your western traditions with their eastern ones.
Buffet tables were set up with food you had slaved over and extra space for what would be brought. A fire crackled in the hearth. The tree was ridiculously tall, decked out in white lights and red bulbs. There were even presents under it, one for each guest. The pillars were wound with natural garland. You stretched red and green streamers between the columns so you could hang snowflake patterned paper lanterns. A kotatsu was set up off to one side near a variety of board games and card games. Soft Christmas music plays in the background. Poinsettias were placed around the space and you even managed to hang some mistletoe.
You check your phone and find a couple of texts letting you know who's going to be late and asking if you need anything. After responding accordingly, you prepare for your guests to arrive.
The first group is fairly on time. Yusuke brings beer, Keiko a casserole, Shizuru a variety of alcohol, Botan a dessert, all of which you direct to the buffet table. Kuwabara has presents for everyone, and you instruct him to put them under the tree. Kurama graciously offers a bottle of wine as it is impolite to show up empty handed. Hiei, on the other hand, feels that you should just be happy that he came at all. Yukina apologizes for not bringing anything, but she wasn't sure what was appropriate for the holiday. You assure her that it's fine and she wasn't expected to bring anything.
As they make themselves comfortable and begin filling plates, it's not long before the other group arrives.
Fashionably late, Jin comes in with arms full of gifts, followed by Chu who predictably has hardcore demon alcohol that you're not sure is fit for consumption. Shishi begrudgingly joins the party and you wonder how much convincing Sazuka had to do. Lastly, Touya comes in with a demon you don't recognize, holding a dessert tray while the other demon has gifts.
"I hope it's ok I brought a plus one," Touya says. "This is Koanen. He's a western demon."
Koanen smiles warmly. "A pleasure to meet you."
"The more the merrier," you say, noticing that Touya looks happier than you've ever seen him.
The party gets into full swing and eventually Kuwabara comes to you. "Is there any more of that crab dip? It seems to have disappeared."
You have some in the kitchen and you go to retrieve it. Hiei is hiding out in the kitchen when you get there, looking agitated.
"Is everything alright?" You ask.
"Yes," he nearly snaps. "You know I don't like crowds."
You do know that, but there isn't that many people here and there's plenty of space. Still, you leave him be to pick at his food. Retrieving the crab dip, you return to the party.
Kuwabara thanks you and mentions that he's going to try to get Yukina under the mistletoe later.
You and Botan wish him luck. As he's walking away, Keiko joins you two.
"I wish Yusuke wouldn't drink so much. He keeps groping me." She lets out a frustrated sigh.
You and Botan sympathize, knowing how Yusuke can be. A little later, you notice Kuwabara and Yukina heading for the mistletoe. Expecting a cute moment, you pull up your phone camera. Instead, you're surprised to see Yukina passionately kissing an equally surprised Kuwabara. You quickly become embarrassed by the display and direct your attention elsewhere. It's then that you realize you haven't seen Touya and Koanen in awhile. After asking around, you find that they've disappeared for some merriment of their own.
The remaining demons seem to be in an increasing state of discomfort. You're about to ask why when Shizuru appears next to you. "What is with these guys? You could cut the sexual tension in here with a butter knife." Now that she mentions it, you notice how handsy the demons are being. Even Kurama seems distracted. You're beginning to think someone spiked the punch.
You go to the punch bowl to find out. Kurama approaches you. "Ah, may I have a moment?" He pulls you aside and speaks quietly. "Did you happen to place mistletoe in here?"
You figured that he would have seen it by now, but you confirm it's presence.
He lets out a deep breath. "I would kindly ask that you remove it. It's making the assembled demons rather uncomfortable."
You look at him questioningly.
"Mistletoe has aphrodisiac properties."
Much later you would look back on this night as an almost disaster. Your friends would refer to it as the Christmas Eve Near Orgy. But presently? You were simply glad that Kurama helped you save Christmas.
(I decided to try something different. I don't know how it turned out, but hopefully you like it after my prolonged absence!)

DEATH BATTLE Review: Danny Phantom vs. Jake Long
The 2000s go at it. Now all that’s left is for a certain fire tyrant to fight a certain sky tyrant, and the circle will be complete.
I have no idea why people thought that Dante Basco would voice Jake in the episode. He’s legally not allowed to. For some reason, people think that DEATH BATTLE is some big-shot production, when they’re clearly not.
Also, Butch Hartman endorsed this fight. So… that’s a thing.
Danny Phantom′s Preview.
So, we open up on Boomstick rapping the Danny Phantom theme song, which sets the tone for the rest of the episode. Going over Danny’s typical teenager depicted in the early 2000s life… And his parents’ weird occupation.
Tumblr media
Before Boomstick stops rapping Danny’s theme song, he does go over how Danny got his powers, and became a superhero.
Tumblr media
And we get an early Wiz and Boomstick segment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s a bit of a pause as Boomstick refuses to laugh at Wiz’s joke.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This goes on for a bit, because they go over how strong the Ghostly Wail is.
But then they go over how powerful Danny’s ecto beams are, and how they are comparable to actual lasers as they do all the typical laser stuff like bouncing off reflective surfaces, straight line movement, burn, and magnification. So Danny’s attacks are light speed, and he’s dodging them too.
And we even get a calc for how strong it is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So Danny’s attack comes out to over 550 Tons of TNT.
The hosts go over his feats,
Tumblr media
like how much he’s fought over his career.
Like this Dragon Girl Dorothea.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Who has an attack output 7.5 Kilotons of TNT from dispersing clouds.
And he’s even beaten his alternate evil future self… Dan Phantom… Yeah, Boomstick points out how ridiculous it is too.
Tumblr media
And right before Danny’s end quote… Even Wiz gets in on rapping Danny’s theme song.
Tumblr media
Jake Long′s Preview.
a
Jake’s preview, similar to Danny’s, opens with a brief history of how Jake got his powers, and a brief moment of him singing the Jake Long theme song.
Tumblr media
And fairly early on, we get another animated segment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This goes on for a bit where we get a gag of Boomstick claiming to have what amounts to ninja insurance.
Regardless, the hosts then go on to Jake’s powers, as they go over the fact that they are magic in nature.
Tumblr media
This goes on for a bit as Jake has been noted to have been able to strike many different opponents that ordinary people would have trouble fighting against if they could at all.
Tumblr media
Like, ghosts, for example.
And we also go over just how powerful Jake’s fire breath is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah… minor complaint is that there’s not a whole lot to go off of in terms of Jake’s stats. They mainly focus on his story and how he struggled with his life as both a magical protector and as a teenager.
Tumblr media
But still, we get a similar thing from Sam Jack vs. Afro Sam in regards to Jake’s end line.
Tumblr media
(Why does Jake get to have his catchphrase as his end quote but Danny doesn’t?)
The Battle Itself.
Luis and Zack are mainly on animation, Danny will be voiced by Nicholas Andrew Louie and Jake will be voiced by Dom Dinh. American Phantom by Brandon Yates. And audio led by Chris Kokkinos.
So, we open up on a museum at night, where Danny is putting something back, and Jake accuses him of stealing something “else” and instigates the fight.
Tumblr media
So, Danny responds in kind.
Tumblr media
Regardless of how this fight started, it had to have “Dragon Up!” and “Goin’ Ghost!” in it. So, I really appreciate that.
Anyways, we get some minor back and forth, with Danny being able to dodge Jake’s fire with ease, and Jake not really being able to handle Danny’s flight speed that well early on.
Tumblr media
In fact, it takes a while for Jake to land a hit, so Danny goes intangible to avoid more blows.
Tumblr media
This obviously doesn’t work, and Jake gets to do his combo.
Tumblr media
This goes on for a while until the fight gets taken outside.
Tumblr media
Opposing element beam struggle?- Oh YES!
Now, this goes on for a bit until Danny’s wins out, and crashes Jake into a Red vs. Blue promotional billboard.
The two do battle with their respective cloning techniques, as we get into an area where, well…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finishing blow in
5…

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For those of you wondering, Danny possessed Jake, slammed him into some buildings, then vaporized him.
Verdict + Explanation.
So, right off the bat, Jake was definitely in the advantage with training, and they both have comparable reaction speeds, but Danny had the advantage everywhere else.
Tumblr media
For starters, while Jake’s wide array of powers gave him some edges, Danny had counters for everything. Cloning was a moot point, and his power level was well above that of the ghosts that Jake fought.
Tumblr media
In addition, Jake’s fire blast wasn’t anywhere close to the level of power to the power of Dorothea’s fire breath, which Danny took head-on. So Jake didn’t have any real strength to get past Danny’s defenses.
Tumblr media
Danny was basically Hiei in this fight. He had plenty of counters to whatever Jake could throw at him. Fire breath?- Ecto Blasts can match it and then some. Flight?- Danny’s faster. Heightened senses?- Doesn’t do much against invisibility.
And Jake had no real counter to Danny’s possession. So Danny could pretty much just force Jake to take himself out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall impression.
Tad disappointed that this wasn’t hand-drawn. I was really looking forward to a hand-drawn fight between these two, since it’s their most well-known medium. Also, there wasn’t a whole lot of references to either characters’ series withing the fight. Though, to be honest, I wouldn’t have minded a cameo by Dante Basco in the form of a security guard wondering what was going on… I think it would have been funny.
(Seriously though, Dante is legally not allowed to voice Danny in non-official material. I saw comments wondering about that, and like… come on guys. It’s not that hard to figure out).
Overall, the fight felt pretty well-paced, the music is awesome, and the result is well-explained.
Could’ve used some more quips though…
8.7/10
Next time…
Oh yay. Now if only one of these combatants had a super toxic fanbase, I would totally go in and make fun of them in my story if I weren’t taking a break from that.
Tumblr media
And also: Cue comments claiming that She-Ra is gonna win because of the recent finale of her Netflix series. Because toxicity is totally how you earn respect for your character. Right Batcult?- You definitely earned respect for your guy by claiming that Panther only won because of Black History Month all those years back, huh?
Is there a fight that you want me to review? - Send an ask/request, and I’ll look into it!
Do you want to read my fanfic based around DEATH BATTLE itself? click here!
Thank you for reading, and I hope to see you next time for…

I Wish I Was the Moon Part IX
As always, tagging the wonderful @louveau and @you-mass-effect-my-dragon-age <3 extra tag for @otomediary who has been so patient <3
Part I//Part II//Part III/Part IV//Part V//Part VI//Part VII//Part VIII
Warnings: Angst, otherwise sfw
***
He had left her regretfully, slipping away in the dead stillness of the winter night, the cold stealing her warmth from him and leaving nothing but a dull tired ache behind. He wished that he could taste her, could know her scent, could burn it into his memory the way that the texture of her skin and the feeling of her hair slipping through his fingers stayed with him, and would for far longer than he wanted to admit to himself.
Changing back into his usual clothing in the icy light of dawn made their time together feel even more like a fading dream, already receding into an unfathomable distance. There were moments, few, but vivid, that divided his life cleanly into what had been before, and what came after. He could feel the demarcation like a prison door slamming closed. He had only himself to blame for making it a ragged tear and not a clean cut.
He found Kyubei waiting for him as agreed, and greeted him with a nod.
“As you predicted, my lord, the former nun is one of Kennyo’s, but she was paid by someone else.” He said as they rode astride.
“Those monks have just as much reason to hate me as Nobunaga, but I don’t see him having the patience for fighting by eliminating the Oda vassals one by one.” Mitsuhide answered, too tired to be indirect.
It had been unlikely that the attempt on Nobunaga’s life had come from peasants plotting a rebellion but part of him had hoped that there was an outside chance that he could clean up the mess without blowing the embers of war into a conflagration. There were simple, straightforward reasons for a peasant rebellion-- concessions could be made, needs could be met.
But the tangled warp and weft of personal pride, loyalty, spite, ambition and vengefulness that drove those higher in the hierarchy was impossible to satisfy by its very nature. The ghosts of Mt. Hiei and Tanba castle wouldn’t be laid to rest so easily.
The day was still and gloomy, the town barely stirring as he rode toward the castle to make his official return. A crust had frozen over the snow that creaked under the hooves of his horse, and made every pace sound more reluctant than the last. He caught a glimpse of someone in green beside the castle wall, before they vanished with a speed and skill that marked them as a spy.
Guards greeted him ceremoniously, as did his retainers, lined up as neatly as archers on the battlefield, and like archers, it was impossible to tell just which one had an arrow nocked for him.
He arranged for a council to be called by mid-day, and spent the rest of the morning examining intercepted correspondence and interrogating them in the guise of casual conversations. He relied on instinct as much as experience to keep from overplaying his hand, to keep his true loyalties a question that became a trap. The field narrowed itself as the day dragged on and he began to assemble the various bits of information into a cohate pattern.
Staff filed in and out to answer the same handful of questions during the council-- questions whose answers were less relevant than the reaction they elicited from from those being asked and those watching.
She finally filed in dutifully behind the other seamstresses, attempting with moderate success to stem her habit or boldly studying people. She was an object of curiosity in her own right by now, drawing gazes that ranged from lecherous to calculating as she approached the dais.
“Since you’ve only recently joined us, I have no questions for you.” He said, feigning as much disinterest as was possible.
She kept her face down, but he caught the most fleeting glimpse of amusement in her expression before she composed herself, bowing lower than she ever normally would’ve and addressing him with more formality than she had used since the night they had met. “Yes, my lord. Thank you, my lord.”
Perfectly polite to everyone watching them and outrageously mocking just for him. He kept his usual smile fixed on his face, but he was fighting laughter. It was hard to believe that she was the same wide-eyed, terrified woman that had emerged from the fire acting as if she had only just fallen to earth that same night. Whatever her unfamiliarity with the mores and customs of the upper class, only a fool would deny that she had more than enough grit to make up for it.
By the time he made his way to her in the night he had a reasonable outline of the conspiracy and its participants, and had formulated a loose plan. She was asleep, and he sat down beside her, her face illuminated in a circle of winter moonlight, as soft and cold as the hand he laid upon her head. She stirred and blinked sleepily at him before she sat up with a yawn.
“I had given up on seeing you tonight,” she said, her voice thick with sleep, yawning again and adding “my lord,” sardonically.
“My but you’ve grown bold. Wherever has the little mouse who was afraid to look me in the eye gone?” He answered, as he felt along the floor for the hiding place he knew was there.
“I wasn’t afraid of you, as much as I was afraid of your mind-reading abilities.” She said offhandedly, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.
He loosened the floorboard and left the letter detailing the names of the conspirators in the hole below.
“Now I wonder why you’d be afraid of me reading your mind?” He asked, returning to sit next to her and smooth out her bedhead.
“Not everyone wants their barely restrained lust to be an open book a few days into meeting someone, naturally.” She answered, leaning against his shoulder comfortably as he draped an arm over her.
“Oh is that all? You did a wretched job of hiding it.” He replied, pulling her closer.
“I have no regrets.” She said with a soft laugh. “Did you know that you always, always smell like gunpowder?” She asked as she leaned into his chest.
“I suppose I do.” He answered, flatly. “You’re taking too many pages from my book, my dear. A normal person would’ve asked me what I just hid away.”
“I’ve never once claimed to be normal. But I do have enough pattern recognition to realize that you’ll tell me what you want, when you want, if you want. I’m not here to change you.” She answered, looking out the small window into the clear frozen sky.
“How fortunate for us both, since I lack both the capacity and desire.”
He looked down at her face, and tried to pick out the shadows there from the night. “If something should happen to me, find Kyubei and tell him that I left a letter for the Oda forces there. He’ll get you back to Azuchi.”
“I guess we’re both a little unusual tonight. You’re being very direct.”
“I’m just telling you what I want to, little mouse.”
“I’m guessing that means that you’ve got an idea of who sent the haori?”
“Your commitment to not asking questions faded fast.” He answered, looking into her searching eyes.
“Curiosity killed the cat,” she said, quirking a brow up at him, and adding “but satisfaction brought it back to life.”
He stretched languidly and slid down into the warmth of her bedding, head on her lap as if it belonged there. There was no calculation in her expression, only honest concern. “I have a good idea. Although I think I saw an Uesugi spy rather far from home this morning, so the ravens may truly be circling.” He said, as she ran her fingers rhythmically through his hair.
“I had the impression that Kenshin Uesugi was too direct for an assassination attempt from sitting in on war councils.” She said, tracing the line of his jaw with a feather light touch, as if memorizing his face.
“He keeps rather shifty company, I’m afraid.” He said, and reached up to fold her hand in his.
“I don’t expect any details, Mitsuhide. But I hope that you aren’t planning anything reckless.” She said, concern on her face and in her tone.
“Have you confused me with Masamune?” He asked with a low laugh at her expense, a cheap cover for the way his heart lurched at the care on her face. Unearned, undeserved.
“You’re too good at being yourself for me to confuse you with anyone else. But for all your planning, you don’t seem to care much about yourself. You don’t eat, you don’t sleep. That’s a kind of recklessness too.”
“And here I thought you weren’t trying to change me.” He said, reaching up to twine a strand of her hair around his finger idly.
“I’m not. Just making an observation. Even your plans can fail, good as they might be, and it frightens me to think that you come in last in all that calculation.”
He dropped his hand and sighed. “What was it you said? Something to the effect that one person’s life can’t outweigh a hundred or a thousand others.”
“I said it and I believe it, but you can’t live by that idea alone. It’s not always clear what the greater good is. Thinking that any one person can decide that on their own is what leads to massacres.”
He froze in place for a moment, stiffening under her hands, mind flooded with memories of smoke and gunfire and blood in the air. She was too far under his skin. Too close to the unforgivable truth.
“No retort? Did you fall asleep in the middle of a conversation with me?” She asked, softly, nearly to herself.
“Your childish philosophy is far too amusing to put me to sleep, little mouse.  What if I said that I had a massacre on my head? Would I not be serving the greater good to die for that?” He asked, fighting to keep his voice level.
“Alright, I’ll play along.” She said, and brushed his hair out of his face. “I think I can safely presume that you had a plan that didn’t involve killing innocents.”
“I’m not sure why the presumption matters-- what someone intends is far less important than the outcome they create.” He countered, bitterly.
“Even if that’s true, it doesn’t follow that your death is a good outcome.”
“Why it almost sounds as if you, earnest lover of peace and freedom, don’t believe in justice.”
She looked down at him with sadness in her eyes that drove the knife he’d put between his own ribs deeper.
“Of course I believe in justice. I just think...” she paused thoughtfully, and continued, “no matter what you’ve done, the only way to atone for it is to live and try to save as many people as you can. All of us will die some time, so why not live while you can and try to do what good you can?”
“And if my idea of good just results in more bloodshed?”
She cupped his cheek gently and laid her other hand over his heart, and he hoped she couldn’t feel it pitching in protest at the sensation of being wounded by her kindness.
“You have an uncanny mind, Mitsuhide, but you’re not a god. Your best is good enough.”
The moonlight was moving away from the window, leaving them in deeper darkness and a heavy silence that hung between them like a chasm.
“We’re never going to agree, little seamstress.” He said, at last.
“Even so--” she began, with a sigh, cut off as he sat up to kiss her tenderly. He pulled her into his lap, arms wrapped around her, his cheek pressed against her hair.
“It will be over soon enough.” He murmured, and felt her shudder, reached up to feel the heat of a tear as it ran down her face.
Her voice was raw and low as she recited-
“Winter has frozen its double-edged breath   and blows it down from the icy heavens,   like a dry fire coming apart in threads,   like a huge ruin that topples on soldiers.   Snow where horses have left their hoof-marks   is a solitude of grief that gallops on.   Snow like split fingernails, or claws badly worn,   like a malice out of heaven or a final contempt...   This violence that splits off from the core of winter,   raw hunger tired of being hungry and cold,   hangs over the naked with an eternal grudge   that is white, speechless, dark, starving, and fatal...    Soldiers are so much like rock crystals   that only fire, only flame shapes them,   and they fight with icy cheekbones, with their mouths,   and turn whatever they attack into memories of ash.”
He felt the sting of every word as if she had slapped him. Felt her grieving for the things she wanted from him that he did not have.
“You were bound to hate me.” He whispered at last.
“That’s the hell of it, Mitsuhide,” she answered, voice hoarse and heavy, “I don’t hate you. I never could. I love you so much it hurts. I know that it’s one sided, I know that I’m nothing but an amusement to you, and I don’t care about that.”
He closed his eyes against the razor edge of her words and felt her draw a ragged breath.
“You treat yourself with such cold indifference. As if it doesn’t matter whether you live or die, whether you’re in pain, whether you’re lonely or sad. But until the day we part, and even after that, for the rest of my life-- I won’t think of you like that.”
Her tears fell on to his sleeve and it would’ve been so much less painful if she were weeping for herself, if she didn’t see him through such clear bright eyes.

Hey, real talk for a moment though, I know Mukuro is not as bad a character as some Kurama x Hiei shippers make her out to be so no hate on her. Hiei and Mukuro’s relationship may be a bit twisted, but keep in mind that they’re demons. They have a different dynamic and that’s okay. I think Togashi-sensei’s main reason of putting them together is for them to heal together and well that’s valid too.
BUT!
The difference in how Hiei’s relationship with Mukuro and Kurama developed is what really draws a lot of shippers to the Kurama x Hiei ship I mean...
Who has known Hiei the longest, like really know him, who took the time to KNOW HIM personality and all at their own pace? Kurama.
Who does Hiei trust the most? Kurama.
Who does Hiei have perfect battle synchronization with? Kurama.
Who’s closest enough to Hiei to see through his facade? Kurama.
Who’s always a 100% supportive of Hiei? Kurama.
Who encourages Hiei to take it easy from time to time and go out and make friends? Kurama.
Who keeps the door open for Hiei so he can still have that chance to be with his sister? Kurama.
Who literally keeps his windows at home and AT WORK open just in case a fire demon drops by and needs help with anything? Kurama.
And yeah I know that these things do not have to have romantic implications, that it can be just a friendship. However, that does not change how wholesome it is. How healthy it is.
Kurama and Hiei’s relationship, their friendship, did not happen overnight or by one measly battle with one another (Yes, I don’t believe they were instant friends after the Two Shots ova, but I believe they did gain respect for one another then). And perhaps it was unintended for them to have become as close as they have in the manga/show, but hey the best relationships are those that you do not plan for. It’s those that grew naturally that shows how great two characters can get along.
BUT THE POINT IS IT GREW GRADUALLY LIKE REAL HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS OF ANY KIND DO. IT’S REALISTIC IN THE SENSE THAT IT WAS NOT RUSHED INTO A COUPLE OF EPISODES.
And you know what? Hey that’s a great kind of love too.

part six to this nsfw
Keiko’s lemon cake is light and tart. Between the seven of them, there isn’t a chance of leftovers tonight.
Kuwabara gives up the pretense of romance and just dumps the entire wedge of cake into Hiei’s mouth. “Do you like it?”
Yes. Refreshing. Can he have more?
Love requires the occasional sacrifice, he supposes. Kuwabara forgoes a slice for himself and feeds it to Hiei. “I’ll get the recipe from Keiko.”
Yusuke pulls him aside while they’re washing dishes. “So, how are things with your dragon boyfriend?”
“Good.” He and Hiei are on solid footing. Dragon or not, he’s the person Kuwabara has chosen, will always choose, if Hiei lets him. So far, he has.
“I meant like--” Yusuke waggles his eyebrows. “How are things?”
Kuwabara does not dare turn around and look at the living room full of demons with super hearing. “You’re real nosy, Urameshi.”
His friends stay and talk for hours after dinner, like they always do.
It’s still the workweek for Kuwabara; he has school tomorrow. He good-naturedly kicks his friends out at midnight on the dot.
Yukina kisses him on the cheek as she heads out the door. “Dinner was wonderful, Kazuma! Be sure to come see me at the park soon. We’ll have a picnic. My brother can hide in the trees like he usually does.” To Hiei, she says, “Don’t cause too much trouble.” There seems to be more to that conversation than what’s being said aloud, but Kuwabara knows when to mind his own business.
Keiko kisses his other cheek. “You shouldn’t be embarrassed.”
“About what?” He knows what.
“If Yusuke suddenly became a dragon--” coincidentally, he’s irritating Hiei with his best impression of setting a village on fire, “--I wouldn’t complain, either.”
It’s a shame Yusuke misses the sultry glance his wife gives him. He might have put it to good use when they got home.
He gives Kuwabara a wet smack right on top of where Keiko kissed him. “I love you, Kuwabara,” he says. “I’ll be sure to avenge you if Hiei gets a little peckish.”
Hiei shoves Yusuke out of the apartment. Keiko admires his scales one last time before grabbing her purse and her husband.
Shit. Looks like Yusuke’s getting lucky anyway.
Mukuro, being just a hair shorter than Kuwabara, kisses the tip of his nose. “Dragons are symbols of great fortune. Hiei’s safe here--as long as he isn’t noticed by the wrong people.”
The wrong people would have to get through Kuwabara first. “I’ll protect him,” he promises. “Always.”
“I know you will,” she says. “Also, I finished the crossword for the Informer in less than an hour. Be sure to mock him in my stead when he fails to beat my time.” She shrugs on her leather jacket and walks away without acknowledging Hiei’s indignant huff.
Kurama is the only one that doesn’t kiss him. “Tempting, believe me.”
Kuwabara can’t let him go without a hug, at least. “Good luck with your presentation this weekend. Get home safely.”
The gold in Kurama’s eyes is surely amusement. “Good night, Kuwabara.” He rests a hand on Hiei’s back. They consider each other for a long moment until Kurama smiles. “Good night, Hiei.”
It’s hard for a house filled with dragon to feel empty, but watching his friends leave is bittersweet every time.
“We’re really lucky, aren’t we?” he murmurs. They found a family to love and be loved by.
Hiei rests his forehead against Kuwabara’s back.
Yes, yes.
***
The boxers are loose around his hips, even with the elastic band.
Kuwabara towels off his wet hair and pretends not to notice the way Hiei keeps encouraging his boxers to come off by brushing his body against Kuwabara’s ass.
“Come on, I’m only gonna get six hours of sleep as it is.”
There’s a time when Hiei wouldn’t have particularly cared, because he could make Kuwabara come in minutes if he wanted, but he seems to have developed a bit of respect for Kuwabara’s sleep schedule. Maybe hanging out with Setsuna and Masashi has given his boyfriend a taste of what Kuwabara deals with all day. A good night’s rest is essential for dealing with eighth graders.
Besides, Eikichi is so cute curled up on the pillow. Kuwabara would hate to interrupt her sleep just to exile her to the bathroom while he and Hiei try to fool around.
Which. “You don’t think I’m a fucking weirdo for how much I want to have sex with you, do you? While you’re like this?”
The placid look again.
He’s asking because he needs to know. “But what about when you turn back? Will you feel the same then?”
Hiei gently pushes Kuwabara on to his back. His boyfriend likes him this way. One of Hiei’s favorite ways to fuck is to finger himself open and then slide onto Kuwabara’s cock and ride him for as long he wants, which is as long as Kuwabara can take.
How would that work now?
Hiei directs his attention to a memory, years old but still hot enough to make Kuwabara’s balls go tight: Hiei stretched out on his cock, bouncing on his knees while Kuwabara looks at him adoringly.
Kuwabara moans in between his own senseless begging, “Can I take your headband off?” They’ve only had sex a hand full of times at this point, but Hiei wears it every time.
The request surprises Hiei, but Kuwabara didn’t know it then. Hiei nods, and with trembling hands, Kuwabara unveils the jagan, bright and inhuman and oh god he’s going to come, please don’t hide any part of yourself from me, I love you so much--
You’ve always reveled in this, Hiei says without words in Kuwabara’s heart. You love that I’m stronger, that I have two sets of lungs, that I can stick my hands in fire and not get burned. You love that I can fuck you for hours--what human could please you after me?--that my teeth are sharp enough to bleed you dry, though I’d never, never--
Hiei offers himself for Kuwabara to grind against, so his dick can get some friction. He winds his legs around Hiei and sobs, “I know, I know.”
You’re so full of want. I can taste that about you, how eager you are for me. You’ve never shied away from the truth: I was a monster long before this transformation, and I will be one after.
Kuwabara screams.
Eikichi judges them both harshly from the corner of the room. Kuwabara covers his face with his hands. “How can I--? For you?”
Later. Sleep.
Kuwabara clings to Hiei. “I love you.”
I love you.
