AU Roulette Challenge 2024

What is AU Roulette? A casual fic-writing challenge encouraging authors to play around with different types of alternate universe stories, which will be randomly assigned to each participant regardless of the fandom they sign up with. The goal of the challenge is to encourage creativity and get authors to write fics with premises they might not otherwise have considered, with varying difficulty levels of participation for writers of all experience levels.

How does it work? Writers will be able to sign up from now through June with a fandom of their choice. At the start of July, each participant will be assigned three AUs from a masterlist using a random number generator. Each author will then have the choice of completing the challenge one, two, or all three of the AUs. Any fic exceeding a 500-word minimum will be considered a completion, so long as it employs the AU premise. The fic-writing period of the challenge will run for a month. Fics can be posted at any point during this time, and authors will have the option of having them added to an Ao3 collection for the challenge if they desire. They can also be posted to tumblr using the tag #AU Roulette 2024

What kind of AUs will be included in the challenge? The AU Roulette challenge will focus largely on popular, staple AU types with broad applicability to any fandom or relationship type. For example, a possible result might be something like a Time Travel AU (encompassing all the possible subsets, such as fix-it time travel, time loops, or other tropes under the same umbrella), but more restrictive AU types like a Soulmate AU that make assumptions about the author’s interpretation of character relationships in canon have been intentionally kept off the AU masterlist. The official list of AUs will be kept under wraps until assignments are given, but will have over 30 different prompts to ensure authors receive a good variety of options, and if you have suggestions or concerns about what AUs are being included, feel free to reach out.

What if I get an AU type that doesn’t work for the canon I chose? Limited re-rolls will be allowed on a case-by-case basis. You are also encouraged to be as creative as you want with your interpretation of your assigned AUs, which may help with making them fit. The goal of this challenge is to encourage weird, creative fanfic, not to have every author who rolls the same result write cookie-cutter versions of the same types of stories. If you were to get a Coffee Shop AU, for example, there is no requirement that the coffee shop in question be a real-world 21st-century Earth Starbucks. Can I participate if I am not a writer? AU Roulette is a fanfic writing challenge, so official sign-ups are for those interested in writing (regardless of skill level or experience writing AUs). However, if you are interested in the challenge but not in writing fic for it, consider having a look at the #AU Roulette 2024 tag or the official AU Roulette 2024 collection on Ao3 once authors have begun posting their stories. Hello! First, I wanted to say thank you for your post about updating software and such. I really appreciated your perspective as someone with ADHD. The way you described your experiences with software frustration was IDENTICAL to my experience, so your post made a lot of sense to me.

Second, (and I hope my question isn't bothering you lol) would you mind explaining why it's important to update/adopt the new software? Like, why isn't there an option that doesn't involve constantly adopting new things? I understand why they'd need to fix stuff like functional bugs/make it compatible with new tech, but is it really necessary to change the user side of things as well?

Sorry if those are stupid questions or they're A Lot for a tumblr rando to ask, I'd just really like to understand because I think it would make it easier to get myself to adopt new stuff if I understand why it's necessary, and the other folks I know that know about computers don't really seem to understand the experience.

A huge part of it is changing technologies and changing norms; I brought up Windows 8 in that other post and Win8 is a *great* example of user experience changing to match hardware, just in a situation that was an enormous mismatch with the market.

Win8's much-beloathed tiles came about because Microsoft seemed to be anticipating a massive pivot to tablet PCs in nearly all applications. The welcome screen was designed to be friendly to people who were using handheld touchscreens who could tap through various options, and it was meant to require more scrolling and less use of a keyboard.

But most people who the operating system went out to *didn't* have touchscreen tablets or laptops, they had a desktop computer with a mouse and a keyboard.

When that was released, it was Microsoft attempting to keep up with (or anticipate) market trends - they wanted something that was like "the iPad for Microsoft" so Windows 8 was meant to go with Microsoft Surface tablets.

We spent the first month of Win8's launch making it look like Windows 7 for our customers.

You can see the same thing with the centered taskbar on Windows 11; that's very clearly supposed to mimic the dock on apple computers (only you can't pin it anywhere but the bottom of the screen, which sucks).

Some of the visual changes are just trends and various companies trying to keep up with one another.

With software like Adobe I think it's probably based on customer data. The tool layout and the menu dropdowns are likely based on what people are actually looking for, and change based on what other tools people are using. That's likely true for most programs you use - the menu bar at the top of the screen in Word is populated with the options that people use the most; if a function you used to click on all the time is now buried, there's a possibility that people use it less these days for any number of reasons. (I'm currently being driven mildly insane by Teams moving the "attach file" button under a "more" menu instead of as an icon next to the "send message" button, and what this tells me is either that more users are putting emojis in their messages than attachments, or microsoft WANTS people to put more emojis than messages in their attachments).

But focusing on the operating system, since that's the big one:

The thing about OSs is that you interact with them so frequently that any little change seems massive and you get REALLY frustrated when you have to deal with that, but version-to-version most OSs don't change all that much visually and they also don't get released all that frequently. I've been working with windows machines for twelve years and in that time the only OSs that Microsoft has released were 8, 10, and 11. That's only about one OS every four years, which just is not that many. There was a big visual change in the interface between 7 and 8 (and 8 and 8.1, which is more of a 'panicked backing away' than a full release), but otherwise, realistically, Windows 11 still looks a lot like XP.

The second one is a screenshot of my actual computer. The only change I've made to the display is to pin the taskbar to the left side instead of keeping it centered and to fuck around a bit with the colors in the display customization. I haven't added any plugins or tools to get it to look different.

This is actually a pretty good demonstration of things changing based on user behavior too - XP didn't come with a search field in the task bar or the start menu, but later versions of Windows OSs did, because users had gotten used to searching things more in their phones and browsers, so then they learned to search things on their computers.

There are definitely nefarious reasons that software manufacturers change their interfaces. Microsoft has included ads in home versions of their OS and pushed searches through the Microsoft store since Windows 10, as one example. That's shitty and I think it's worthwhile to find the time to shut that down (and to kill various assistants and background tools and stop a lot of stuff that runs at startup).

But if you didn't have any changes, you wouldn't have any changes. I think it's handy to have a search field in the taskbar. I find "settings" (which is newer than control panel) easier to navigate than "control panel." Some of the stuff that got added over time is *good* from a user perspective - you can see that there's a little stopwatch pinned at the bottom of my screen; that's a tool I use daily that wasn't included in previous versions of the OS. I'm glad it got added, even if I'm kind of bummed that my Windows OS doesn't come with Spider Solitaire anymore.

One thing that's helpful to think about when considering software is that nobody *wants* to make clunky, unusable software. People want their software to run well, with few problems, and they want users to like it so that they don't call corporate and kick up a fuss.

When you see these kinds of changes to the user experience, it often reflects something that *you* may not want, but that is desirable to a *LOT* of other people. The primary example I can think of here is trackpad scrolling direction; at some point it became common for trackpads to scroll in the opposite direction that they used to; now the default direction is the one that feels wrong to me, because I grew up scrolling with a mouse, not a screen. People who grew up scrolling on a screen seem to feel that the new direction is a lot more intuitive, so it's the default. Thankfully, that's a setting that's easy to change, so it's a change that I make every time I come across it, but the change was made for a sensible reason, even if that reason was opaque to me at the time I stumbled across it and continues to irritate me to this day.

I don't know. I don't want to defend Windows all that much here because I fucking hate Microsoft and definitely prefer using Linux when I'm not at work or using programs that I don't have on Linux. But the thing is that you'll see changes with Linux releases as well.

I wouldn't mind finding a tool that made my desktop look 100% like Windows 95, that would be fun. But we'd probably all be really frustrated if there hadn't been any interface improvements changes since MS-DOS (and people have DEFINITELY been complaining about UX changes at least since then).

Like, I talk about this in terms of backward compatibility sometimes. A lot of people are frustrated that their old computers can't run new software well, and that new computers use so many resources. But the flipside of that is that pretty much nobody wants mobile internet to work the way that it did in 2004 or computers to act the way they did in 1984.

Like. People don't think about it much these days but the "windows" of the Windows Operating system represented a massive change to how people interacted with their computers that plenty of people hated and found unintuitive.

(also take some time to think about the little changes that have happened that you've appreciated or maybe didn't even notice. I used to hate the squiggly line under misspelled words but now I see the utility. Predictive text seems like new technology to me but it's really handy for a lot of people. Right clicking is a UX innovation. Sometimes you have to take the centered task bar in exchange for the built-in timer deck; sometimes you have to lose color-coded files in exchange for a right click.)

I miss the good old days when writing on tumblr was less of a hassle. You didn't need to follow the icon trends to be relevant and you could use gifs of any size on your posts and no one cared. Everything was just about writing and your editing skills didn't matter. And be ready to be accused of being racist, if you're writing a PoC, if you accidentally make a mistake while trying to brighten a picture that was in a dark room setting for an icon. The correct response to this would be to reach out to this person and try to give them some tips! Not to yell at them as a first response. I miss when the "trigger warnings" actually meant something and weren't used so lightly. Despite what you think kids may think, tw do not mean "this thing is something that I don't like", or "it makes me uncomfortable", or anything like that. It actually means something that can trigger you into having a panic or anxiety attack. I miss when anyone could write villains and no one batted an eye and no one attacked you for doing so. They seemed like any other character being written. But now fiction equals reality and if you don't put disclaimers all over your blog, you could get callouts and hate mail for writing them. And even when you do put disclaimers on your blog, you could still get the callouts and hatemail. I miss the days before pro-ship and anti-ship existed, especially since no one on this hellsite can tell you the actual definition of what those words even means. Because it seems most people use those words wrongly. I miss not having reblog karma, and before folks gets the pitchforks over this one. I understand why people feel the need for it, but I feel like some people have taken it too far. It went from "reblog from the source so it doesn't mess with my notes! I'm not a meme blog!" to "I know you're just reblogging it from the source so you don't have to send me anything!" Meaning you can't even reblog it from the source now, too. because apparently it's not really about, "messing up my notes!" I miss not having to fill out interest trackers. We used to just be able to talk and communicate with each other over what we want to write, and now it's like we have to fill out an application before we can write with each other, like it's some kind of job interview. I'd prefer just talking with my writing partners personally. I miss when people didn't complain about not getting memes, while also simultaneously complaining that people take on more than they can write. Which is it guys? Do you want us to send you memes or not? Will you complain, too, when I don't get your response out quickly enough because I took on another meme? I miss not constantly needing to worry about everyone's opinion on how we can all run our blogs. Everyone says, have fun, it's your blog! But is it really? You almost have to worry about it, at least to an extent, because you get unfollowed and blocked in the blink of an eye anymore. No communication. Just blocked. Leaving you with no clue as to what you did wrong or how you could fix it. The point? Tumblr has become a place where you have to jump through hoops just to write with each other these days. It's just a big hassle. Between all of the spoken and unspoken rules, the trends, and the people who are all addicted to outrage, ready to get a mob together for even the tiniest of offenses. It's no wonder people don't want to write on tumblr anymore. Everything we do seems to make people angry. It's like walking on broken glass. super tips with soup #1 - staying safe in the tumblr agere community!

Hi, everyone! Call me Soup! I'm an age regressor, but I've got a bit of that babysitter blood in me, so today, I'm gonna try to embrace the big bro spirit and give you guys all some good advice! So here are some pro tips with your buddy Soup on staying safe in the agere community!

CG Applications? No Way!

I know what you're thinking... "But Soup! If I don't put out an application, how will I find a CG?!" The truth of it is, even if some people have safely gotten CGs through them, and even if some people apply to them in good faith, they're just not safe! Plenty of people can lie to you through them or apply with the intent of taking advantage of you! Your best bet is to try and make friends instead without the intent of making them your CG immediately. It lets you get to know them as a person without them being your CG, and if you trust them, you can ask them to babysit you for a bit!

Don't Feed The Trolls!

What do I mean by that? When a harasser, gore-poster, or overall jerk swoops into the community, spamming people or messaging them to say rude or unwanted things, don't interact with 'em! That's what they want! They want to make you mad, or sad! Don't let 'em see you down! Block them and report them and then get outta there! Go do something that makes you happy or talk to someone you trust about how it made you feel.

If It Sucks, Hit The Bricks!

If someone's trying to interact with you in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable, or is trying to extort sexual content from you, leave! Just like trolls, they want you to give them what you want. But unlike trolls, their goals aren't to upset you, most of the time, They want what makes them happy even if it makes you uncomfortable. That's not good at all! When that happens, you have full permission to use SOUP'S SWEAR PASS, even if you're a regressor that doesn't like to swear, because sometimes, "grown-up" words like that make me feel more in-control of a situation because I'm showing people that I'm not just small. Tell 'em to #@$%& off! (And then block them, if you need to.)

Handling Unclear & Uncomfortable Situations!

Sometimes, it's hard to tell if someone's trying to make you uncomfortable or not. If you're not sure, first, state your boundaries, proud and loud and clear! "I do not like this, this makes me uncomfortable. I would like you to stop." Most reasonable people will back off at this point, and apologize. However, if they keep trying to make you do something that makes you uncomfortable, THAT'S when you are free to start being even more firm, and even a bit mean if you need to! It's okay and nobody will blame you for telling someone to not make uncomfortable advances toward you and the like.

(I will note, sometimes, discomfort is something you SHOULD feel. Not from people pressing you to do things that make you feel gross, but from things like questioning marginalization in the community. For example, if someone makes a post about racism in the community and it makes you uncomfortable, ask yourself why. Is it because you're a victim of the racism and you're scared for yourself? Or is it because you worry you might be perpetuating the racism in the community? It's okay and good to feel uncomfortable about participating in stuff like that, but a person addressing it isn't doing it to coax you into doing bad things. They're trying to bring awareness to issues in the community. Ask yourself what you can do better or if there's anything you need to do at all to help. Don't try and fix the whole community, because you're only one person, but you can do what one person can!)

Come Back Later!

If you're not sure what to make of a situation online, you can always come back later if/when you're feeling bigger, or ask someone you trust to help you make heads or tails of it. It also helps to take a little calm-down break and think things through. When you think you might respond a bit too fast or recklessly, take a deep breath, go take a break, do something else for a bit, then come back and see what you think now.

I was wondering if you had any recommendations for good png making apps/sites, the ones I find always decrease the images quality or give bad edges and I don’t really know how to fix that? 😰

I have a Samsung so I'm not sure if it is any different on Apple.

I used to use their bare bones background eraser

but like you mentioned I realized it would reduce the quality/size of the image where with the photolayers app it preserves it, sometimes I even have to go make the image a little smaller myself because it is too big for tumblr! (They white background it 😭) Plus the photolayers app does everything bg eraser does and more like it has image editing tools so you can sharpen/blur/edit the color etc. It's all pretty simple to use to. I had tried a lot of apps before after I got a new phone and lost the one built into my phone (which if you look in my oldest archives it actually stunk! So it was good I lost it lol!) but photolayers won and is the only one I use now. I feel like I may as well delete background eraser! This ask made me realize I still have both on my phone. Photolayers is fun for collages and editing and making memes too! I really love it and there are only ads when you go to save which you can always just close out of.

I made this pepe edit last night. 🤣 and it reminded me of the one I did using photolayers last pregnancy that I had to go find in my saves

The only thing I will say as a downside, but it's also a plus if you are doing a big image edit is if you edit a lot of layers it will autosave every edit in a "photolayers history" folder so they can stack up quick if youre doing a big edit like I did above, but its easy to just delete the folder if it's got too much in it! And I think maybe you can turn that feature off but I actually use it and don't mind deleting that folder once in a while. Happy editing! ദ്ദി(｡•̀ ,<)~✩‧₊

the implication about baizhu is that he's seeking immortality, right? yeah. i like to think that his sweet lil junior herbalist knows about that and does what little they can to help him—e.g., discreetly seeking information, whether that be through the suspiciously well-informed mr. zhongli or through foreign sources. their morals become somewhat skewed after working with baizhu for a while, but it doesn't really bother them. why would it? baizhu is soft and gentle and kind with them. they aren't afraid of him. they never will be. it's because of his attention and care that they can manage their life. this is how they're returning the favor.

changsheng and [name] ABSOLUTELY, 100% fight for his attention. they have a weird ass family dynamic going on with that snake LMAOO..... baizhu knows about this. he finds it funny.

qiqi and [name] like to wander liyue together. once they develop enough strength and endurance, they'll carry her on their hip and go wherever she directs them. sometimes, baizhu will trail after them (like a father!) and leave the pharmacy in gui's hands. bro is a single dad with two kids and all of liyue knows it.

"baizhu is a coward" not when someone threatens his kid! it's verbal assault ON SIGHT if someone does something to hurt [name]. he hasn't had any need to physically defend them yet thankfully, but he has definitely had a few choice words for certain impatient people.

sometimes baizhu lets them braid his hair after seeing them do it for qiqi a few times. it ends up becoming very normal for them to braid both his and qiqi's hair on slower days.

i hc that there's a room in the pharmacy with low sensory input (dim lighting, limited scents & sound, etc) in the case that anyone needs to rest for whatever reason; migraines, body aches, sensory overload... it's available for any reason at any time of the day. sometimes baizhu and [name] end up in there at the same time and just sit in the silence. it's a bonding ritual of sorts.

Fresh Start

Hi all! It's Mod Vera.

Due to loss of contact with all the past mods I decided to start the blog fresh.

"But Mod Veronika- why not just keep the old one?"

So unfortunately my reason for terminating the last one was that it wasn't a side blog but a main tumblr account. Because of this. IP addresses were being saved on the log in account section. This then became a security issue and was not discussed or warned about towards the other mods.

When I had found out this information, I attempted to contact Mod Whit. I then waited several months for a response but received none.

Being as I was the only remaining moderator for the blog. I decided to delete it so that the personal information that tumblr had saved could be terminated and the moderators could keep their privacy.

However, since I did not know the identity of the other mods. If you were assisting with the blog. Please send an ask off anon to request reinstatement.

As this is an adult blog. Only adults are permitted to run it as well.

I also extend the invitation to others who wish to participate as mod to assist with prompts and make original posts.

Chipspeech Twitter Archive Update

Hi I should have done this months ago.. I do not know when (or if) I am going to finish that website lmao. So I am just going to share my notes from Google Docs. Should be easier to read than the original posts and helpful as a starting point if anyone else decides to make a website :3

The documents are all on commenting mode so feel free to make comments to bookmark things for yourself or write your thoughts or whatever. Under the cut I have put some formatting notes.

It's a folder, each year of Twitter posts is its own document (I tried to compile them into one but it lagged too much). There is also a document with all of the original Tumblr posts (from the accounts I could find, no tags yet but I will go back and get them eventually, also no dates but they're all from 2015), and one with the bios from the official website for ease of access.

The formatting is a little (a lot) weird and there are probably pictures that need resizing/transcription but I figured it's better to give people access now. The text is small (to keep the page count as low as possible) so you will have to zoom in.

It goes by day, organized with a bulleted list. The top level bullets are each character that tweeted that day. The second level bullets are original tweets/retweets by that character. The third+ level bullets are comment threads under that tweet, the organization here is inconsistent but imo still readable (if you think something needs an edit for clarity let me know and I'll fix it).

For each character's section of the list, normal text is that character's tweets/comments. Italicized text is anyone who is not that character. If it is labeled with unitalicized text, it is that character/important account (e.g. the official Chipspeech account), otherwise it is a fan. I also included some labels and/or clarifying comments for Vocaloid producers I like, they're not central to the story though

I got rid of the line breaks within the tweets when copying them down because it was easier to format. Sorry about that. Idk how to fix it other than going through everything again but it doesn't take away from the story so I'm leaving it for now.

If something came from a website other than Twitter, I tried to provide the link (unless its content was deleted). I did my best to transcribe the Clyp posts that were not deleted.

If something is a text-only retweet, it is marked with [retweet]. If it includes an image, it's probably a screenshot of the whole thing. I only included retweets that felt story-relevant (so no miscellaneous cat pictures, Apple-related aesthetic images, etc.), but if people really want it I can go back and add the rest.

Deleted tweets are noted with [deleted tweet], with the characters they came from if applicable. Idk how Twitter works but it the person in the thread is replying to the username of a certain character, I assumed it was that character's tweet that had been deleted. If something says [deleted Dandy thread], assume there is a deleted Dandy tweet in between each of the listed tweets (or another character, but it's usually Dandy). That was meant to be a temporary time-saver and I've gone back and fixed the ones I've found, but there's probably more I accidentally skipped.

Anything not in English is translated in a comment. Except the X-Sampa (I will fix that sometime but there's not much of it). Also it was done with the built-in Google Translate feature so it may be a little incorrect. Unclear pictures and whatnot also have clarifying comments. I can add more clarifying comments (or image IDs) if anyone needs them.

I tried not to include any unattributed fanart but there are some that I forgot to copy the handle for (I am also fixing these when I find them).

As for any future updates to this folder as a whole, I kind of want to go back through each account's liked tweets to see if there's anything funny in there but idk when that will be. That would probably be its own document.

Honestly I should have given everyone access back in June.. oops. If you have any questions you can put them in a comment on this post (or reach out to me another way, idk). As I mentioned before, feel free to use all of this as a starting point if you're making your own website.

I'll pin this post so it's findable in the future. Also sorry for disappearing for several months (it will happen again).

THOUGHTS WHILE WATCHING GILMORE GIRLS: APPLICATION ANXIETY (SEASON 3, EPISODE 3, PART 4)

I didn't think I'd be going into four chapters+ for this filler/completely lacking in boy drama episode, but here we are.

Shady Taylor Business as per uzh. He’s committed so many white collar crimes that he’s in over his head trying to keep track of them all. Does ayone else just think of Taylor as the Mayor? He’s technically “town selectman", which is a real thing, and after many years I've finally looked up what a selectman does. I won't bore you with the details, but somehow Taylor got put into a position of authority that involves a heavy responsibility for other people's money. I know we have seen the actual mayor of The Hollow before, but only twice so far, I think. Taylor is treading into the shark infested waters of airing private grievances with Luke Danes publicly, again. Has Taylor learned nothing from the last time he tried this stunt at the emergency meeting he called about Jess and his sidewalk drawing? He really loves poking that hornet's nest. It's not going to be pretty.

Miss Patty waving at Rory and Lorelai. She is such a treasure. A horny, horny treasure. She must be protected at all costs.

Taylor calls his malt shop a "necessary service", which immediately calls me back to our comedian friend who predicted Taylor would classify his malt shop as a "necessary service" in order to stay open during the pandemic. How was that guy so spot on about everything?

That's real slimy, Taylor. Taylor Doose is slime. And not the fun kind of slime, either. According to Slimy Doose, If a 3/4ths majority of the town decide Taylor should have that building then he gets that building. It's just that simple! Check the towns bylaws! Which were probably written by Taylor! Why does Taylor want to run Luke out of town so badly? His diner is literally the only attraction in town that keeps the town economy churning (well, not Rory and Lorelai's money, but everyone else's). Taylor spends 7 years trying to find the money to fix a small wooden bridge. Like Tumblr, behind the scenes, The Hollow is being held together with paperclips and fairy dust. If tourists ever find out that Luke's special coffee is nothing more than ordinary Folgers, it's all over.

No, Salty is NOT going to research the nitty gritty details of eminent domain for you to determine if Luke is correct. You're on your own, people. I'm here to make the masturbation jokes.

Now things are real getting real loopy doopy as Taylor stands his ground that his proposed soda shop is even more necessary than a hospital. DId someone vote this guy in? According to Google, yes. A town selectman is an elected position. The people who voted for Taylor may even be voting in larger elections, which is a scary thought. Ya'll voted for this putz, you live with him.

KICK HIS ASS!

RORY YOU ARE NOT HELPING. Sit down! Oh, you already are. Well, keep sitting. And stop talking. The town decides they love their beloved coffee proprietor Luke so much that they refuse to side with him and don't give a flying cupcake if he gets screwed into next week. If this were my unrated Gilmore Girls spinoff, The Hollow, which explores the gritty realism of small tourist town life, the Malt shop goes under in a few years because the economies of these towns are very shaky. Someone is going to turn around and Eminent Domain Taylor's ass and bulldoze his businesses to build luxury townhomes.

If looks could kill, man. Someone PLEASE edit a cartoon bloody axe or hatchet into this screen shot for me. I'm going to use this face on the promo posters for my horror movie series, "Blood In The Hollow." Luke's Revenge.

Rory saying "Ice cream soda, yum" and a couple of elderly people nodding is enough to count as a majority vote. I know they worship Rory in the Hollow for some reason but how does she have that much power? Can't we get some kind of auditor in here to examine the electoral process in The Hollow? Then an accountant to audit Taylor's financial books.

Even after what she just did, you know she’s going to shamelessly march right over to the diner where she won’t pay him for her food and coffee. I saw Lane unaccompained at the meeting, and started thinking since Mrs Kim apparently lets Lane go to town meetings unsupervised, they're a perfect opportunity for her to get out from the watchful eye of her mother and get up to some teenage rebellion/shenanigans. I still say she should have hooked up with Jess to give her mother a coronary.

Welcome, Shenanigans. We get an introductory story about Rygalski's musical interests, which Lane finds rather keen. Keen is like my new favorite word. It's old fashioned sounding so it just works with these old fashioned teenagers.

Don't tell me Lorelai doesn't looks jealous watching Rory kiss Dean. Dean actually listens patiently while Rory updates him about her life, and this behavior continues to feel highly suspicious. Is it because he was at home jerking off while everyone else was at the meeting and now he's not so cranky?

Don't worry Deano, you won't be lonely. There are other fish in the Hollow. Maybe you'll even manage to trap some poor innocent teenage girl and brainwash her into marrying you. I'm still not sure how he pulled that off.

I saw these oven mitts on Amazon yesterday and thought of Lindsey Lister. Whenever she's cooking one of Dean's meatloaves, she's quietly side eyeing the box of rat poison under the sink. Rory is mildly irritated because his question is "blunt and out of nowhere." and a discussion About Our Future is underway.

I'm going to keep a scoring system for this discussion: +1 point to Rory because Dean's question was really "out of nowhere" and dropped on suddenly her late at night. +1 point to Dean because his question wasn't totally unreasonable. Minus 1 point for Dean because Rory hasn't even been accepted to Harvard, no less any college, yet. + half point for Dean doing the bare minimum and believing in the idea that Rory will get into Harvard later. Minus 1 point for Dean because even if she did get into college she isn't going to start for another year, so he could have waited like, at least another 6 months before it would matter. Minus 1 point for Dean because there's no guarantee they will even be together a year from now (and they won't be).

Minus 1 point for Rory even entertaining the silly notion that she could have a "Weekends only" relationship with Dean when he is a controlling maniac who tracks her schedule and gets angry if she does not spend every minute of her free time with him. MInus 1 point for Rory engaging in more "I promise I will spend every spare minute of every day that I'm not studying with you" and "we can talk on the phone constantly during the week" negotiations. Enough with the negotiations!! Minus a kajillion points for Dean just because he's rotten hamburger meat. What is he going to do Monday-Friday after he graduates hgh school, without Rory to kick around like his personal hacky sack? Reversing the roles for fun: Dean: What are you going to do when I leave for college? Rory:

"Christianne Amanpour spends of a third of her life in foxholes in third world countries! She was on C-Span last week getting an award! And she has a family!" Girl?! Rory Gilmore is comparing her life to that of an award winning, world renowned field journalist, someone who travels the world and risks her life on a regular basis, to her life as a boring high school student dating another boring high school student, some illiterate 17 year old softball playing clown from Stars Hollow Connecticut whose own mother is still trying to abandon him at a gas station, hoping that a pack of wild dogs will find and adopt him as one of their own instead. If Christianne Amanpour can survive being blown up in a war torn country and go home to her husband and family at the end of the day, then surely Dean Forrester and Rory Gilmore can make it work. Rory, pleaase. Settle down. Minus -2 points for that sheer ridiculousness. I'm not sure Dean even knows who Christianne Amanpour is, anyway. This goes on WAY too long so I will summarize so I can get on with my life and finally finish out this episode. I'm going to tell everyone I know that Rory is definitely for sure going to Harvard there has never been a more Harvardy student that has ever ever Harvarded before. The end. Could you do a chapter where Gregory is held by knife point by Vanny, Vanessa’s sister, and it’s up to Freddy, the animatronics, and Vanessa to save him, and the reason Vanny kidnapped him was that she was the heir to be the CEO of Fazbear Entertainment?

Here we have tumblr generated prompt number 26! This one comes from Damien M on ao3. I will admit, I took some hefty creative liberties with this one because I wasn’t really sure what Vanny threatening Gregory has to do with her being the CEO’s heir. I also went with my go-to name for Vanny-as-Vanessa’s-sister instead. 

Evil Twin 

Vanessa hastily raised her hands and backed up. “Okay, okay, see? Look, I’m not coming any closer.” 

“None of us are,” Freddy said, solemn and tense, and Vanessa felt awful for him. This couldn’t be an easy thing for Freddy to witness. 

Or herself, to be honest. It was jarring to see your identical twin sister hold a knife to a teenager’s neck. To Gregory’s neck. That was how Vanessa would look if she ever… 

“What do you want, Vanity?” she asked as gently as she could. Her sister had always had a worse temper; they couldn’t afford to set her off. 

Vanity, who was looking concerningly twitchy, sneered at her. “What do you think I want, Ness? I want my birthright that you stole. I’m the older twin, so I should be Uncle Tristen’s heir.” 

This again, Vanessa groaned internally. It’d been a sore point for years, had halfway torn their family apart. “I didn’t steal it,” she said automatically, the argument familiar. “We’re not even the eldest of Uncle Tristen’s nieces and nephews. It wasn’t about being the oldest.” 

“That doesn’t matter!” Vanity shrieked. The knife jerked, scratching across Gregory’s neck, but he didn’t make a sound. His eyes were still hazy from the hit to his head, visibly wandering over the ceiling. He looked just barely able to stay on his feet. “It still should’ve been mine!” 

Guilt weighed heavily on her. Gregory wouldn’t be in danger if it hadn’t been for her. She was a volunteer at the library, part of a mentorship program. It looked good on college applications and it pleased the FE board to see she was involved in the community. She’d been Gregory’s mentor for two years now, since they were eighteen and eleven respectively. Now she was a year away from starting to intern under her uncle, and this late night trip to the pizzaplex was a weekly thing for her and Gregory. She’d promised his parents months ago that it was safe.

She hadn’t expected her grudge-holding sister to show up, and certainly not with a knife. 

They all waited in tense silence for Vanity to calm down a little. She blew out a breath, then turned a too-wide smile at Vanessa. “It should’ve been mine,” she repeated. “So I’m here to fix Uncle Tristen’s oversight.” 

Trembling, Vanessa shook her head. “Vanity… it’s not my choice. I can’t give it to you—”

Vanity’s crazed laughter cut her off. “Don’t be silly, stupid. I’m not here to make an exchange with you. I’m here to make sure Uncle Tristen can’t choose you.” 

Freddy shifted unhappily, just a little behind Vanessa. Foreboding rose up in her. “What do—”

“No one would be willing to trust FE to a child murderer.” Vanity giggled, and that was when Vanessa realized her twin was dressed in Vanessa’s clothing. She was wearing her hair like Vanessa did. Her jewelry, her shoes—it was all Vanessa’s. It really was like looking in a mirror because Vanity had done everything she could to make it look like it was Vanessa holding that knife. 

“How tragic that Vanessa sliced the throat of her own little pet project,” Vanity simpered. “She knew exactly how to bug out the animatronics and shut off the cameras—but she wasn’t careful enough. It’ll only take a few ‘candid’ pictures to convince everyone.” 

Freddy’s jaw creaked ominously, clenched in an effort to remain silent and not make the situation worse. 

“No,” Vanessa whispered. “No, no, there’s—we can, we can talk to Uncle Tristen. We’ll ask him—”

“It’s not enough to just be the heir,” Vanity said. “I want to watch you lose everything.” 

Reeling and terrified and disbelieving, Vanessa shook her head. How had she not known the true depths of resentment her twin had for her? 

“Any last words, brat?” Vanity asked, jostling Gregory roughly. 

“Vanessa really gives you tunnel vision, huh?” he mused. 

“Wha—”

Vanity was understandably cut off when the full weight of Moon dropped from the ceiling and crashed into her. It happened so quickly that she was probably knocked out before she even realized what was happening, completely eliminating the chance of her using the knife. Gregory had tilted sideways with pretty perfect timing, ending up on the floor but otherwise seemingly unharmed. 

Cackling as he raised up into a crouch over Vanity, Moon rasped, “Nighty night.” 

It was all over in less than ten seconds, but it took longer for reality to catch up to Vanessa’s panic-numbed mind. She halfway collapsed right there on the floor, her knees weak with relief. She wasn’t too embarrassed by her reaction, since Freddy’s head literally sparked before he careened unsteadily forward. 

“You have excellent timing,” he said to Moon, his voice only shorting out a little. 

“Yeah, like, the best,” concussed Gregory agreed. “Thanks for the save. I wasn’t sure if I was imagining you up there or not.” 

Moon helped him stand, and Freddy immediately took over, searching for injuries. 

Trying not to choke on relief, Vanessa said, “Freddy—and you too, Moon, depending on how long you were lurking—please, please tell me you have footage of her admitting her plan like that.” 

“I am saving it for the third time to a backup server as we speak, Vanessa,” Freddy said, examining Gregory’s head with a critical eye. 

Gregory caught her looking and sent her a thumbs up. She gave him a thumbs down, making him laugh.. 

“I heard enough,” Moon said. His gravely voice usually freaked Vanessa out a little, but as of sixty seconds ago, he was her favorite animatronic. “I will send along the footage and,” he snickered, “the damage report.” He nudged Vanity with his slippered foot. 

“Get concussed, creep,” Gregory said, flipping off Vanity’s unconscious body. 

Vanessa choked out some hysterical laughter, and she figured he deserved that one. She shakily got to her feet and made her way over to the others. Gregory didn’t even fake groan when she hugged him tightly. 

“Get concussed,” she agreed. “And the upcoming sequel: get arrested.”

My Favourite Gnome Extensions

Over the past few years I've found myself settling into gnome and I would like to introduce y'all to some of my favourite extensions.

1 - Gtile

Gtile is easily a must add to any Linux install with gnome, a highly customise-able shortcut to tile your windows onto a grid size of your choosing. An absolute must have for people with large/multiple monitors and a perfect extension for the power user in you. 2 - Just Perfection

Just perfection is the tool for getting those slight tweaks you didn't know you needed out of gnome, from hiding parts of the system UI to simple behaviour changes its got at least one feature for you. I personally use the workspace wraparound while disabling the visibility of the activities button and workspace popup for a cleaner UX. Gather our people and spread the good word

Draft a constitution

Plan and execute a meeting to democratically decide on policies left open by the constitution

This council is founded by councilfrog @thefaestolemyname (Who is newish to Tumblr and needs all the help they can get) on the idea set forth by @bogglethebogwizard.

It is not strictly necessary to be a frog/frog-related or bog/bog-related wizard to be a member.

a Final Fantasy VII: Compilation Roleplay Community Hub We here at the Midgar Avalanche community  don't have quite the same lofty and er, illegal goals (though we wholeheartedly support the downfall of capitalism and fixing global warming!) At Midgar Avalanche, we simply strive to put on immersive events ranging from extravagant galas and balls for even the poorest character to experience magic for one night - to roleplay events where characters can shoot the shit at the 7th Heaven and meet new characters and hopefully create new connections in the roleplay community - bringing us all closer together and to create a roleplay community that thrives creatively and harmoniously.  We aim to provide a positive experience for both newcomers to the roleplay scene and the old standbys. We may make mistakes just like Barret's crew (though thankfully we've yet to blow anything up) but our goal will always remain the same: to help people remember how fun and joyful roleplaying with others can be, and that the best roleplay comes from meeting new people and creating new stories with them. In the future, we hope to perhaps create long term, lasting storylines that affect the entire roleplay community and that have a lasting impact on characters via the events we run, whether it be a mission from AVALANCHE, a covert mission run by Shinra, or who knows! The possibilities are endless - and best of all - we always are open and willing to hear from YOU the community about what events and storylines you'd like to see!  To note: we are not a typical SL/Roleplay "group". We do not have 'mains' or otherwise have it so once a muse is picked, they cannot be roleplayed. Our goal is to simply present opportunities for the community to utilize as a way to break the ice with other writers and (hopefully) find new people to write and create with! There's no application to join any of our events, we wholeheartedly welcome doubles - all we ask is common sense, decency, and an open mind to other writers.
